Was in the neighborhood and was looking for a quick slice of za with my picky NY mother and needed to find a solid option that she wouldn't complain about lol so used my Yelp super powers to find Pie Life Pizza. It is as no frills as you can get, literally a hole in the wall, a window on the upper level in a car park next to a coffee spot. But the pizza speaks volumes. Tasty, crispy crust, sauce was delicious and the right amount of sauciness as was the cheese. Oooh, so this is what pizza heaven is made of? Lots and lots of pie life! Yes, the hype is real. Yes, this may be the best pizza I've ever had. Yes, it's more pricey than the average Joe's pizza, but it is worth it! It's a pick up and go kind of joint, with no indoor seating and some limited outdoor seating but pizza is better when you eat it at home with a movie anyway! I'm very confused by the great reviews. I love the concept of NY slices and was very excited to try this place. It's also literally a hole in the wall, but I think that adds to the cool factor and the outside seating is nice. Unfortunately, the pizza just falls well short. The slices were a little crispy and not quite foldable like a standard NY slice, but the crust was good. The sauce and cheese however were not good and was like eating very bad reheated pizza. The margarita was not traditional margarita, but that's ok. The meaty slice ha some tasty sausage on it, but only had 2 pepperonis. Our family is big on pizza, so we're always on the lookout for quality pie. This place looked pretty good to us, so we called and put in our order. I loved that this place does half and half with no problem. We wanted to try more than their pepperoni, so we did half pepperoni half bbq chicken. So glad we did too! NY folks take note: avoid. I don't understand all the positive reviews. I definitely don't agree with them. Bready with negligible flavor in the sauce and garbage cheese. This is in school lunch territory. I'm offended I was referred here and resentful I ate here, though I threw half away. 1 Sicilian cheese that was dense and flavorless (despite heavy greasiness) and 1 Grandma that was much the same. A few little chunklets of pressed garlic in one bite was the hightlight, which had everything to do with my love of garlic and nothing to do with this pizza. Amazing is all I can say! These slices remind me of the wonderful thin pizza I ate in the south of Italy near my family home. The only exception is they weren't served by barefoot children of the owner who worked away happily sending out the freshest food to his busy trattoria. -I had been hearing great things about this place and decided I needed to give it a try and compare it to Tony's Pizza in San Marino. I ordered two cheese slices and a Warehouse slice for a different taste. If you like your thin Cheese slices with a nice crunch on the bottom and melty cheese on top, then you'll love Pie Life! Now for the Tony's comparison: Pie Life is a little more expensive and their slices are smaller than Tony's but the sauce and cheese ratio on the slices were evenly spread throughout. This is a omething you don't always find on a Tony's slice. Don't waste your money on delivery, soggy in the middle. I have ordered this pizza about 10 times. Its good. It's usually soggy in the center though and I have to cook it longer in the oven. This time I asked for well done and paid extra for a rush delivery. This was the worst one yet. 50 something bucks for soggy nasty pizza. At least at Domino's its hot and not soggy. read more

When I find a great pizza place that would survive in NY and better than the tourist trap Rays Original I have to rate. The Sicilian pie was amazing. Perfect crust, tasty and right portions. It's striking and baffling to read other reviews for this place. The pizza is bland, with scabby cheese, and crust that could be repurposed as your middle school child's science project posterboard. I tried more than 5 different styles and they were all the same. Cheap ingredients, bland and stiff dough, and cold. We ate the pizza as soon as we took delivery and it could have easily been room temperature. I have had the pizza no fewer than 5 times (it's catered to events on my campus) and it is nothing if not consistent. The fact that some would compare it to a NY style is both an insult to the state of NY and the countless NY cooks and chefs investing time and money in their craft. read more

Slices are $5 but you get a pretty decent sized slice ...you know the kind where you fold the pizza in half in order to fit it into your mouth kinda slice. Only con is parking in the lot is non-existent, pretty much everyone there seems to be for the coffee shop next door. I parked a block over in the burger king lot and walked over. Shocked this place gets 5 star rave reviews. The pizza is really not good. Photos look much better than the taste. The crust has zero flavor, toppings slide off of the crust, toppings have no flavor. This quick little pizza spot deserves a quick little review. I have about 20 min before having to pick up my son at school nearby. I'd seen this place when visiting Jones' next door but I've never caught it open so today was the day. Picked pep and tomato basil slices. Thin crispy fresh dough is not my favorite but this place did it well so I'm game. Friendly and super fast service. I chose my slices, got a drink and sat down. Not so fast, it was time to pick the order up at the window. Seating is outdoors on outfacing benches. The pizza is mad decent and I'm on my way- not too full, and in time to get the kids from school. The pepperoni was a far superior slice. The fresh pep is spicy and kinda crunchy on the edges, plenty of sauce and cheese. The tomato basil was a little dry a little lightly cheesed and kinda just ok. I lived in NYC/Jersey for several years so moving to California, I had fears I would not get quality pizza. I've found it to be mostly true although recently LA has seen some newcomers that I think have risen to the challenge. Enter Pie Life Pizza. 4.5 stars on yelp means it's either legit NYC style pizza or there are multiple fake accounts overinflating the score. There's several pizza options out in Pasadena I had to choose from so I decided to check it out. You have to pay attention to your google maps because you can easily miss it. It's in a small lot and shares a 2 story building with a coffee shop. They have parking lot, about 10 or 12 spots. This is not a sit down restaurant. You walk up to a booth where someone takes your order. There is a menu. They sell slices and whole pies. Very friendly folks working there. When it's ready, you either take your pizza home or you can sit at one of the several tables or stools outside. I got the 2 pizza/1 drink special that was about $10. I got the standard by which all pizzas have to be judged which was the cheese slice. The verdict? Not good. The crust in my opinion makes or breaks the pizza. The undercarriage is sturdy and foldable. But the crust is a big letdown. You should get a combination of crunch/crispiness and a snap balanced with a light chew and airiness. This was all hard tough crunch. The ratio of cheese to sauce was off for me. It could use a little more sauce and less cheese. The sauce was bland and not very herbacious. I like a zestiness to the sauce and it didn't have it. The cheese was greasy and did not taste the freshest. Nice people work there but I don't see myself going back. read more

Friend's scouting for part 3 of his best pizza in LA. Came by on a Sunday morning just about as the place was going to open. The location is tiny and to me seems like an old freight loading dock. High up above ground, small plank from the pizza place to the other establishments that share the property, Pie Life Pizza has its charm. I see as this pizza place to be a quick grab and go rather than a sit down as there are no inside seating. All tables are located on the plank which is each of the establishment's front property. We ordered the loaded pizza which had the works! Pepperoni, mushrooms, red onions, green peppers, black olive, italian sausage, and garlic. Their pizzas come in a 18" with a set price for two toppings (additional charge for added topping) or their pre-configured pizzas. I enjoyed this place for all of its reasons. Location was interesting, pizza came out nice and hot, fresh ingredients. PARKING: small lot that holds about 20 cars. Plenty of street parking available. VERDICT: One and done read more

We were able to find a spot for the four of us but only by luck fairly late on a Sunday afternoon. I got the Margherita and the Warehouse (pepperoni and sausage with mushrooms and olives). I ordered a 18' classic cheese pizza and the Pepperoni Burrata pizza. Both were really good. The chunks of burrata were a burst of goodness in my mouth. While I haven't tried all their pies, I had the Meaty Pie and the White Pie. Crust: Taste was bland, with the most dominant flavor being flour. Overall it was dry and baked to a cracker consistency. Not very enjoyable. Sauce (Meaty Pie): Bland and thin. A heartier tomato sauce could have helped cut down the salt bomber the toppings... Toppings: Meaty Pie looked like it had high quality ingredients, but the only flavor from any of the meats was straight up salt. Just a complete salt bomb. If the sausage, meat balls, or pepperoni had spices or herbs, I couldn't taste them. White Pie was decent, but could have used a little more garlic and parmesan. Service: Good, friendly, quick. No complaints. Location: In a small complex next to Jones Coffee. Has a small parking lot, which makes it easy to pick up. There are a few picnic tables outside the pick up window to eat at, but nothing fancy. Overall: It's passable pizza, but nothing I would go out of my way for. Wow! Love the pizza here! As all ex New Yorkers, I too am guilty of considering myself an authority on what is good pizza, and this pizza is very good. Very good, in the thin crust NY way. These pies have what I would call, by California standards, an Exceptionally thin crust. Which we New Yorkers like. Pie Life's crusts deliver a great balance of crispness to chewiness. Strong enough to support any topping, yet soft enough to give a very satisfying chew. In addition to selling whole pies, Pie Life also sells pizza by the slice, featuring a differently topped slice of the day, each day. The day I was there the "PBJ" was featured that's Pepperoni, Bacon and Jalapeño. An excellent combination perfectly executed. I will be definitely be coming back for more. Note There is a small parking lot, which is nice. Also: there is very limited space for dining, just a few small tables that line the side of a narrow balcony. OK for one or two people who are just grabbing a slice.
