The pizza is very difficult to beat in this area. We'd have it all the time if we lived closer. The one thing I've found overwhelming here is the unreal prevalence of kids. It is more welcoming to children that adults, despite a grown up decor. Anticipating it would be pretty packed with kids we ordered take out. When I arrived the place was a sea of children. It looked like a birthday party at McDonald's. Children easily outnumbered adults 2-3 to 1. I love children and this place is a kiddie paradise. read more

Had the sausage, onion and peppers pizza and it was everything i was hoping for. The crust was cooked perfectly. Thin and crispy yet soft and full of flavor once crunched into. The peppers and onions were fresh and nicely sauteed. The sausage was the KING of this pizza however. Perfect blend of spices and flavors truly made the whole pizza come together. This place serves decent, square flat bred pizza. It was recommended to me by a friend who lives nearby for whom I was house sitting. The fried-stuffed olives appetizer was also nice and made for a filling dinner with enough for lunch leftovers. read more

Pizza is an especially subjective choice, because DVM is filled with transplants who are certain the pizza they ate years ago someplace else was exceptional. As I hurtle toward old age, I've come to appreciate that pizzas are like snowflakes, albeit much higher in calories and harder to catch on the tongue. But you really ought to try one here, the oven makes a great difference. And if you like, you can stand near the counter and watch them make it. After many visits over the years, we have come to enjoy lunch at PieTanza. It's less hectic and quieter than dinnertime. We've enjoyed the sandwiches here and especially the salads. The salads are huge, so we often just split one and add an order of the flatbread, which is simply a pizza crust dusted with spices and sliced into strips and served with delicious marinara on the side. Service is always friendly and efficient, and we're never disappointed. The owners obviously take great pride in their establishment and it shows in the little details. read more

Definitely one of the best pizzas, flavorwise, in the area. It would be 5 stars except that it doesn't travel well. 10 minutes door to door and the pizza was cooler than room temperature when the box was opened. The sauce is very good. I tend to prefer a smooth all the way through sauce. This sauce mostly is, but for those who also enjoy smooth, every slice does have 1 to 5 tomato chunks. Not a deal breaker, just a personal taste. This place looks good and inviting from the outside but looks are deceiving. Iv'e given pie-tanza three chances and it has struck out every time. First off, you don't get a whole lot of pizza for your money, and you will pay alot of money when you eat here. The food tasted like something I would buy at the supermarket and prepare myself. Solid Italian and legit Napoli pizza at a fair price. Margherita pizza has lots of fresh basil which is a win! I've been to Italy many times, and this is good pizza. Crust is on point, not a soggy mess like another pizza place nearby.. Carry out service is very good (and very busy). Haven't dined in but the place seems really crowded in a small space on weekends. PieTanza serves good quality pizza in a convenient location- a strip of stores that includes Harris Teeter and Starbucks. Like others have said, the patrons tend to be families so don't go expecting quiet or calm. tables are almost on top of each other. The caesar salad is good, and service is quick. With Elevation burger opening up 2 doors down, I do wonder if they will see a drop in business. Next door to Pietanza is taqueria poblano, which is NEVER busy, probably because their food is mediocre at best. There, you just got 2 reviews in one. read more

Went here for the first time Sat afternoon. Hadn't heard of this place until I had a restuarant.com gift certificate and searched on their site for participating restaurants. Waitress was super nice and packed our desserts to go when we told her we had a movie to catch. I recommend their pizza but skip the bruschetta and save your money for the mini canolis. Not bad for a lunch special! I got the antipasto pizza and it was crispy and fairly well prepared. The crust was about right and the tomato sauce was good albeit mild. They say the Pesonal Pizza is 10", well it is looking like around 12" compared to an 8 1/2 x 11" peace of paper. Nice value. A lot of people get fired up about this place, but I can't quite seem to join the crowd. I find it good, but not all that. The best things I've found on the menu are the sweet tomato cream pasta and spaghetti bolognese. The pizza is thin crust, and I often find the crust to be somewhere between dried out and burnt. This place gets extremely crowded at times, especially on a Friday or Saturday night. Line is out the door, but not worth it to me. We usually do take-out. read more

For the type of restaurant this is - a neighborhood pizza/Italian joint - I can't imagine anything surpassing it. This is not gourmet Italian food that will set the world on fire. However, they have very, very good salads, pizza and even some delicious pasta dishes (the sweet tomato cream penne is particularly delicious and probably the sleeper pick on the menu). Considering the consistent quality of the food, how reasonable the prices are, and how friendly and attentive the service is, the 5-star rating is a no-brainer (and I don't give them out too often). Some reviewers have complained about the number of kids running around. They're not wrong - if you go at certain times, there will be hordes of children. But go a little later on a weeknight, or for a late lunch on the weekend, and you'll avoid most of the madness. Since this is mainly a pizza place, a few quick closing comments about the pizza. It's a very thin, crispy crust and more of what I call "gourmet" pizza than a New York-style pizza. At most places of this type, I consider that a bad thing, but Pie-tanza doesn't let it get too out of hand like other gourmet pizza shops. They don't skimp on cheese or toppings, but they also don't get too out of control with all sorts of crazy ingredients, although there are certainly lots of unusual choices if you want to customize your own pie. read more

my kids BEG to go to pie tanza. and this is one restaurant to which this mom really doesn't mind taking the whole family. let me preface this by saying that this is what i call "foodie" pizza, not real pizza like i get back in the NY/NJ metropolitan area. that being said -- the pizza is fresh and tastes great. i love their tomato sauce, which is the basis for a lot of dishes here. the kids love watching the people creating the pizzas and then firing them up in the wood stove; the people are often kind enough to give the kids a little ball of dough, which the kids proceed to play with throughout dinner. friday/saturday nights get a little crazy, and the line often ends up out the door. couple that with the fact that somehow, the entire lee-harrison shopping center woke up about two years ago, so parking can be a little challenging at times. come at lunchtime, when the lunch special buys you a personal pizza with toppings and a drink for under $10. read more

Wood- fired pizza was really yummy. I had a coupon that I had to use, so i ordered a bunch of pizza and the white pizza with fontina was the best. Appetizers wise if you like olives then you would try the fried stuffed olives. The warm rustic garlic bread and the calamari fritti are good also. I would not recommend getting rosemary flatbread, its nothing special about it. The Twice baked lasagna was over cooked to the point the bottom was burnt. The manager was nice about it and let us replace with another item. The server was not there when we needed him, and it seemed like he was ignoring us. Overall I do enjoyed the food. read more

The goat cheese salad was o.k. but not great. It didn't include enough goat cheese and had too many grapes for an overly sweet taste.
