My husband picked this place when we were out and about in the area. It seems well known among his friends: they could all identify it from a photo of the pizza alone! My best friend is from Connecticut so he's talked a lot about New Haven style pizza throughout the years, but I never got to try it until now. The place is bustling on a Friday night, with a solid half hour wait for a table. While waiting, I got an apple cider spritz which was fruity and refreshing. For food, my friends and I shared two medium-sized pizzas, which is more than enough for a party of 3. The first is the Honey Butter Fried Chicken Pizza with no bleu cheese, and the second one we customized with red sauce, italian sausage, and mushrooms. I felt that the fried chicken pizza was kind of on the dry side, with very little sauce to speak of. The fried chicken on it was also overcooked and dry. Not my favorite. I really did enjoy the red sauce pizza with sausage and mushrooms though! The crust is thin and crisp, a much-needed respite from the deep dish all over Chicago. I did feel like I had to chew the crust a lot, and my jaw eventually got tired after like 4 slices. While the pizza wasn't particularly mindblowing, I did enjoy my experience and would probably come back to hang out with friends who wanna try New Haven style. Very fun experience! If going on a weekend with a large group, would recommend making reservations. We had a large group and were able to try multiple pizzas. I rarely eat pizza since I'm on a "lower" carb diet and So Cal doesn't have pizza that has me craving for. This pizzeria serves up New Haven Style Pizza which I've never had but have seen on various Youtube vids. The waitress recommended Hot Doug's Atomic Sausage Pizza.. Pizza came out straight out of the pizza oven. The thin crust was pliable and the bottom of the pizza had a nice char flavor. This pizza was topped with pepper jack cheese, caramelized onions and house made sausage. The marriage of these flavors is a perfect match for may tummy(s). I was thinking I was going to only eat half of this pizza and take the rest on the plane which likely wouldn't be good after a few hours. I even offered the family next to me the other half which they declined. So, like a true Yelper, I just ate the whole thing. In Chicago, there are no shortage of places where you can get quality pizza. If you ask for a recommendation, you're probably directed to a deep dish or tavern style pizzeria. That being said, Piece has been one of favorites for some time. Their New Haven pie is the perfect combination of crispy, light, and strong enough to hold the toppings. We ordered the Heirloom Tomato pie for carry out. After a quick broiling to restore the integrity of the crust, we thoroughly enjoyed the pizza. First time trying New Haven-style pizza! Honestly, I think this might be my favorite way to eat pizza. It was thin and crunchy like New York-style pizza but had a nice chew to it as well. They improved the crust!! Piece was already on my top list for pizza and beers. My only criticism from before was the pizza was pretty floppy in the center. However they seem to have improved the recipe, as the crust has more structural integrity and holds the toppings much better! I still like to use a knife to prop the slice up though. The medium Hot Doug's atomic sausage with mushrooms and peppers (green or roasted red) is the go-to order for me and my partner. We always have about half the pizza leftover afterwards and it's so delicious. You can feel the heat from the sausage but it's not super hot I always love getting the Top Heavy hefeweizen, it comes in a special 22oz glass and is consistently refreshing. The service is quick and friendly, I really appreciate that they box up the pizza leftovers for us. They are also prompt to take the order and circle back for additional drink orders. The dining area has a beautiful sunroof that lets in ambient light. There are tables and booth seating. The music is hardly noticeable, mainly you'll hear the chatter of the other patrons. Was in town with another artist and decided to go and experience the great vibes I'd heard about this wonderful place . Cute little spot. Per their signage, they have won multiple awards for their beer. I tried their APA, and it was pretty good. Their pizza menu is huge! There are lots of topping choices. For gluten-free needs, only one of their size pizzas came in gluten-free. I opted for the Buffalo chicken sandwich and just didn't eat the bun. It was very flavorful. Came with chips.
