Our expectations : a casual dining- in bbq lunch with friends, bonus unlocked : a fun cocktail menu and ice cold beer on tap. Side note: I'm still looking for my go-to bbq joint in town, but I think this ranks a little higher for me compared to Black Hog and Mission. Both are good with the meat... but I'm a sides girl. No sides have wowed me yet, but PIGS probably has the better of the three. *The ever controversial mac and cheese (especially at a BBQ joint) is...different and unlike any I have had before. It's good: creamy rich cheddar without all the baked on extra cheese- it's strangely light like a buttered noodle. Classics like the and potato salad were underwhelming in flavor. Appetizers: Wings - fried and sauced, fried green tomatoes, house made pickles, and fresh chips with their rub seasoning (the chips were my favorite!) - all solid starters. The wings were huge! Lunch: I ordered the 2 meat and 2 sides bbq platter- jalapeño cheddar sausage (with that nice snap), smoked chicken, coleslaw and mac and cheese. It came with their jalapeño cornbread (it didn't have a ton of flavor). I'm a sucker for cornbread usually. Listen- that bar was on point, service and ambience was excellent- and they were slammed today - down a chef- and they put out some great food. Take those sides to the next level and this place is a 5.

Our favorite thing here was the honey bourbon ribs from the appetizer menu. I wish they did half or full racks of them! The empanadas and macaroni and cheese were really good, but I wasn't a fan of their fried green tomatoes. We both enjoyed the various sauces and would come back!

I was thankful they were open until 9 on Tuesday night. Not busy. I had a pulled pork plate with pit beans and Mac and cheese, with an IPA. The BBQ sauces were good with the pork. Decent selection of beers. The server was friendly and helpful. Comfortable atmosphere, with some music and TV's for sports games. There was no wifi offered - I had limited reception and that would have helped me. Hopefully I'll be back as I pass through the area again. As the server described each sauce, he lifted each one up by the spout with his bare fingers - I suggested that wasn't sanitary, so please point to tell about them. He seemed to accept the suggestion.

We visited Pigs on a stormy Saturday around midday and the place was about half full. The server was sweet. The food was good. The vibe was low key and nothing spectacular. Then again, who is expecting glamour at a bbq joint?!? Not me. The decor was cute and the place was very clean. I enjoyed the jalapeño sausage most as it had a crispy crunch skin on the outside, but juicy inside. Pigs is located a little outta the way, but worth it to go off the beaten path to get there. This my be a typical route for some, but I've never been back in this area. It's quiet and a nice drive. I would return.

I was looking to try something new yet simple and thought bbq on a Sunday evening would be perfect. This rustic yet modern restaurant offers take out, indoor and outdoor seating with a warm hospitable ambiance. I sat at the bar and was greeted by multiple employees giving me recommendations on food and drink options. I ordered the brisket tacos with a side of greens. I'm not sure the inspiration of the bbq but it TASTED Carolina influenced because it was vinegar based. The brisket tacos were flavor packed and perfectly portioned. The green were good however probably not cooked with meat being vegan friendly. Now the housemade sauces were great! They had a mustard, two bbq, a hot sauce, a honey and one more that I would definitely purchase My server, Danny had been with the company for years and had seen it grow from catering only to brick and mortar. He was extremely attentive and made great conversation throughout my meal I would recommend trying this spot for a lighter bbq fix

From the parking lot to the inside, we never smelled any BBQ. In saying that, it was a very clean and modern country decor kinda place. The staff was welcoming and friendly. Was informed that the sweet tea was not made in house, so cokes and water to drink. Ordered the two meat (brisket & pork shoulder) plate with collard greens and macaroni and cheese. Very beautiful presentation. The meat was ok. Not a heavy smoke flavor to it. I'm not saying it wasn't smoked, just saying the meat didn't have that hours on a smoker taste that we associate with good BBQ. The greens were great and well seasoned. We found the macaroni and cheese bit bland. I think they were going for a jalapeño and cheddar cheese cornbread kinda deal. I would see a sparse of little green and orange specks in it. But never would taste it though. Maybe it was an off day when we stopped by. But you might like it.

Fine dining BBQ, we'll almost. Good food, the BBQ is more of a Carolina style smoke. Beans and Mac&cheese were excellent! Definitely worth the stop.

Holy shit, my fellow bbq lovers, you guys have to try this place. We moved up to MD from the Carolinas and just accepted that maybe the bbq just isn't as good up here. PIGS blew us away. From the meats, to the sides, cornbread, cocktails, and even the pickles - we are impressed with the level of thought and flavor. We started with the crab deviled eggs and then tried the potato salad, Mac and cheese, collards, ribs, pulled pork, and sausage - can't say a single bad thing about any it. Jalapeño and mustard sauces were our favorites. Loved the honey bourbon lemonade and it's creative garnish. Craft beer list looked promising with some refreshing local selections. I'm glad we ventured out of downtown to check out this spot. A hidden Frederick gem for sure.

These are the biggest crabs I've seen anywhere at a price this reasonable. That's the whole equation right there. Which brings me to the drive. I know it sounds backwards to head inland for crabs, and yes, when you've got friends visiting and you point the car away from the water, it takes some explaining. But compare it to a place like Bethesda Crab House, where you're paying for the real estate as much as the crabs. I would rather drive forty five minutes into the country and eat better crabs for less. Those of us in 20854 make this trip constantly, and this place gets talked about in country club circles all the time for exactly that reason: outstanding crabs, unbeatable deal. It's in the same category of open secret as the lobster specials at H Mart at $12.99 a pound, sometimes down to $9.99. Everybody in the know knows. The snow crab is the other reason. It picks clean, juicy, and not too salty. It comes apart fast. No wrangling with rubbery, bendy legs. And you can get it in the all you can eat too. The place feels like a biker bar. Nothing fancy about it, but that's exactly the room you want to be in when you're eating crabs and drinking beer. It also beats Mays, the other spot people mention around there. I've eaten at both. Mays has tiny little crabs. Avery's has some big ones. Not close. And if you're bringing people who don't do seafood, the rest of the menu holds up. The ribs and everything alongside them are outstanding. I've come here with folks who were just along for the ride and watched them go to town. I tried it myself and it was legitimately that good. Last thing: Wednesdays, the all you can eat blue crabs go on sale. Plan around it if you're price conscious.

Alas, this could be a 4 star -- except they would need to increase the quality of several dishes…read more As a 3star seafood place close to town -- it is a bit pricey but not expensive, just average quality, loud, and so-so service. Not great, not terrible -- average. For me, sitting at the bar is better than at a table: better service and conversation with others. Same food, average seafood with typical sides. If the food was a notch better: I'd come more than once a year. I find Mays, Liberty Seafood and Avery's roughly the same, with Mays having the edge over the others (quieter too). For just crabs: order takeaway from Westpointe. For bulking up on food: Avery's. I actually enjoy eating at Avery's -- but it could be so much better if they improved the sides and service. Still, I do come once a year -- contrasted to: I visit several other restaurants at least twice a month ...and get better quality seafood dishes (at a marginally higher price). Just saying...
