Finally got to try the ICONIC Pike Place Chowder! We visited their location in Pacific Place to skip the crowds over at Pike Place Market, which was a good decision as it wasn't busy at all. We tried their Chowder Sampler, which includes four 5-ounce servings of their award-winning chowders. We tried the classic New England, seafood bisque, and market chowder (skipped out on the manhattan style since it didn't sound like something we'd enjoy!) The New England Clam Chowder was as good as they say!! There's a reason it's the "most popular dish in America." It was generously filled with clams and bacon, and all of the herbs and spices in it were incredibly flavorful too. Ask for extra oyster crackers to add some more texture! The Seafood Bisque is a tomato-based chowder, and includes Pacific Cod, Northwest Salmon, Oregon Bay Shrimp, and basil. We found that the sourdough bread they give tasted best with this soup. I'd give it a 4/5! The Market Chowder tasted similar to the New England, except with more seafood items. I didn't find it as flavorful as the the New England, but I did enjoy it more than the Seafood Bisque. Check in on Yelp to get an extra $1 off your Chowder Sampler! read more

Surprisingly the wait wasn't too bad today. Service was quick and friendly. Seared Scallop Chowder 5/5 - rich and creamy.. Just not chowder should be New England Clam Chowder 5/5 - can't go wrong with traditional clam chowder Manhattan Chowder 4/5 - more of a tomato soup to me, but still enjoyable Was so hungry, forgot to take pre meal pic. Pretty good chowder. We tried the small New England and Manhattan styles. They had plenty of clams and fresh ingredients. It's good quality and pretty tasty but way overpriced. It's good for tourists and people who don't have good chowder regularly. I recommend going to this location rather than the one at like place that had over 20 people in line. It's good for a tourist or quick meal but I personally wouldn't go back. If I had to wait in that long line, it would have been disappointing. read more

On Jan. 1 was visiting Seattle and was excited to enjoy some chowder and fish. Noticed their shop outside the movie theater. Frankly it was so, so. Was more like just fast food not much more. I'm sure it was very good at one time. The cod was more breadcrumbs and hot oil, with minimal cod; frankly inedible. Chowder was OK. I thought it would be great and I wish I went somewhere else and ate a salad. read more

Great clam chowder, and fast service! If you're looking for yummy clam chowder that's full of clams and other great ingredients, make sure you check out Pike Place Chowder! I had the New English Clam Chowder, and I was really happy with how much stuff is in it, it feels like a very hearty dish. They also have different kinds of chowders to choose from as well, so I'd really like to try the others the next time around. I also got the salmon fish and chips. Those were also good. The tartar sauce is good and the fish was freshly made and very tasty! I highly recommend going to the mall location rather than the Pike Place Market location. There are little to no lines here and the service is fast. It's indoors and there's a decent amount of seating in the area. I had gone to the Pike Place location the day prior and the line was possibly over an hour long just to place your order. read more

This place has been on my list since arriving to Seattle and I finally tried it before I move there is always a line but today the line was short so decided to try it! This is a clean small location located on the fourth floor of the Pacific place mall by the Movie theaters. First stop in Seattle (beyond seeing my friend who got me into Yelping) was to stop by Pike Place chowder. However, this location here was a bit different than the OG spot down the street at the Pike Place market. I believe that has a bit more of the original ambiance and everything, but if you're nearby I would say this place is just as good just because you don't have to deal with the crowd. Unless, you're sort of into that. I ordered a NE clam chowder, something that this place is known for and is famous as well. I thought it was pretty great. Was it better than something from NE? I don't think so, but I think this place is very good considering its location. If you want a good bowl of hearty clam chowder, Pike Place should definitely be on your list to try out if you're in town. This location is located on the top floor of the mall, but there was plenty of seating and I would say it's more directed at serving workplaces during lunch hour rush and also probably tourists that want to skip the crowd. read more

Yummy! There was a line wrapped around the alley which gives you a hint of how good it was. I'm sad that we weren't able to sit and eat there because there isn't enough tables/seating. We weren't too hungry so, we got the Connecticut-Style Lobster Roll 1/4 lb and the daily market chowder (Lobster/Crab Chowder. Note- it was $45 for both of these items. Both really yummy. I recommend this place if you are going to visit pikes market. I ordered the new england clam chowder and this is so tasty and creamy( 5 ). The only thing I dont like is the dining space ( 2 ). It's so tiny and its hard to enjoy my food because I'm kinda rushing to finish my soup so other customers can seat and eat. Oh well tiny space indeed in seattle pikes market. Don't get the hype. Maybe people have never had quality chowder from the north east? I'm from an area where chowder flights, and seasonal chowder based on what was caught the morning off to be the chowder of the day. The price of $34 for a tiny 6-8oz for 3 is outrageous. And I pay $22 for 16oz for blue ribbon lobster bisque where I'm from because it's ribbon worthy. The seafood chowder, clam chowder and salmon chowder we got was sorely disappointing considering what I've grown up eating. I'm glad we got chowder here and didn't wait in-line in the sun and heat at Pike Place locations. Clam chowder lacked the sweet clam flavor. Salmon chowder was sweet in a unpleasant way and the seafood chowder was forgettable. Come to New England, we will show you what a amazing chowder is supposed to be. And we won't charge you $34 for 18oz of soup. read more

Of course when in Seattle, we had to stop by pike place. When at pike place, of course we had to get pike place chowder! This branch of pike place chowder is actually located on the top floor of a pretty quiet mall, so there was no wait and plenty of seats. We got the Manhattan chowder and New England chowder. From the first spoonful, I could see why their New England chowder was an award-winner. The flavors were so balanced, and no one herb dominated. It was thick and smooth and not too salty. Incredible! Unfortunately the Manhattan chowder fell short of my expectations. It was saltier than the ocean the seafood came from. It honestly tasted like grocery market soup. Also I wish the sourdough was toasted instead of served lukewarm in a bag. We also got the fish and chips with cod. It was freshly fried and served with an excellent tartar sauce that was light but flavorful, and cut through the greasy fried taste nicely. I was really impressed by how tender the cod was, since it's easy to overcook and become tough. The chips too were fried and spiced to perfection. Mealy, steaming hot insides and a crisp exterior. The Manhattan chowder was three stars but the New England chowder and fish and chips were five, so I ended up giving it a four. If you come here, do yourself a favor and avoid the Manhattan chowder! I'd love to come back and try the seafood bisque. read more

located on the 4th floor of a very quiet indoor mall, this location is open until 8pm and is a blessing because the one in post-alley always has a line out the door + into the street stealing the words right out of another review of mine (for beecher's if you're counting), in a city full of expensive and downright overpriced food options, pike place chowder shines bright as a delicious, affordable and hearty option right in the tourist center i love both their new england as well as their seafood bisque, but if you can only have one, the clam chowder is the one to get, and you'd be foolish not to have it at least once per tourist-trip just as good if not better than any we had during our most recent trip to boston; thank you for all the wonderful chowder through the years! read more

We went on a Saturday afternoon. It is VERY busy in the whole area. Parking was expensive and not easy to get. The market area is mobbed with people. You actually have to leave the market and cross the street to go down an alley where Pike Place Chowder is located. We put Google maps on walking directions and found it easily that way, but I don't know if I would have figured it out otherwise. There was a line down the alleyway to order, but the line moved pretty quickly. There are very few tables available and not a lot of options to sit nearby, but we were fortunate to be there just as a table of people was leaving. The ordering was fast and friendly and they serve you immediately. 5/5 - Scallop Chowder: My first time having a scallop chowder and it was delicious! 5/5 - Clam Chowder: We assumed that this would be the same chowder as the scallop one but with clams instead. Wrong! The bacon flavor really comes out and makes this distinctive. Amazing. 3/5 - Lobster Roll: Pretty good, but definitely not worth $36 1/5 - Seafood Bisque: Not a fan. read more

So I had no idea there were 2 locations and this one is NOT inside Pike's. Anyhow, I ordered online and didn't realize so I had to have my husband drop me off while I ran into this mall to get my order. The chowder was good we ordered the seafood chowder and the clam chowder and the clam was definitely the stand out. Now is this the best chowder I've ever had? Being that I'm a native San Franciscan I'd have to say no because I've had many a chowders in SF and in the Monterey area. However of all the chowders I've ever had this does rate rather high like maybe within the top 3 or so. It's very rich and flavorful which I loved. Also the lady helping me with my order pick up was nice and friendly. Over all, I'd go here if I were in the area but likely I'd go to the Pike location as this was a little out of the way. read more

In the alley ways of Pike Place, this small restaurant has very limited seating so it's best to plan on takeout. The restaurant has takeout down to a science so the line moved swiftly. I ordered the Connecticut Style Crab Roll but have some reservations. While outside the bread had some crunch to it the inside of the roll was not toasted, the butter was all on one half of the sandwich. I may have been more forgiving but the sandwich cost me $35 - was not worth it. What I did taste and loved were their classic clam chowder and their oyster/crab chowder. Was very tasty but light on the oysters and crab. We couldn't find parking so highly recommend walking our driver drop off. read more

The reason why I gave this place a super high score is that, it is only a few min away from Pike's Market and you can actually get a seat and avoid all the tourist & enjoy the food. Maybe as a Canadian, we have traditional poutine, hence I've ordered the chowder fries for a twist. Not bad not bad. A regular bowl of soup is $9, chowder fries is only an extra dollar. Why not?? The New England clam chowder is the best! I liked how creamy the soup was and it had a lot of toppings in it. I thought the sour dough bread it came with tasted okay, but the soup is the star of the meal. I also really like their fries. The first time I had Pike Place Chowder was at Pikes market many years ago and since then they have expanded to the downtown mall area in Seattle. The same 5 star best clam chowder I've ever had, in my opinion, is at a mall without the long wait at Pikes market. On this trip I ordered the fried prawns with a small cup of chowder. You know how I feel about the chowder, well the prawns are up there with the chowder! They were cooked to perfection! The mall itself is about 75% empty. There isn't anything there worth shopping for but thankfully the Pikes Chowder is still going strong. If you're craving the chowder and don't want to wait in the long lines at the Market this is the place to go, just don't forget to try the prawns, they're that good! read more

Yes, the Pike Place Market location is a great tourist destination and also great if you're already there, but this location is very nice to get away from the crowds while still getting the same quality of Chowder. - PARKING - Pretty sure there's a mall parking garage, but our hotel was just a few blocks away so we walked here! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - It's located in a mall, a few floors up. There's a handful of tables and seats, and definitely more spacious compared to the Pike Place Market location. Service wasn't exactly friendly, but they get the food out to you quickly. - FOOD - New England Chowder: The classic, tried and true Chowder. Really great flavor, glad they serve some Sourdough Bread on the side. Ask for the crackers/oyster crackers! Seafood Bisque: This was my personal favorite from the first time I came to Seattle, and stays my favorite now. I do remember when we got the Chowder Sampler, these two Chowders were definitely my favorite. - OVERALL - If you don't mind walking a few blocks away from Pike Place Market and would prefer a less crowded area, definitely check this location out. Just as good! Seafood Bisque is my favorite, but you definitely need to try the original as a baseline. read more

A good place to come for chowder or seafood chowder. I love New England clam chowder and this time I had the seafood chowder. Good but not as good as the clam chowder in my option. Also had the two piece cod and chips and was very fluffy batter and not too greasy and tarted sauce was good. The lobster rolls are really good just a bit small for the price. read more

We left pikes market area to try this one because we were told it's was more of a sit down establishment. Was a little disappointed when we got there to see it was in a mall which we had to lap around over and over again to the 4th floor because every other escalator was broken. Tip: take the elevator. However the food was worth the hike! My mouth is watering now thinking about it. I got the 2 piece cod with the claim chowder. The soup was tasty with fresh ingredients. The fish was perfectly fried with nice flaky white pieces of cod. The fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned to my liking as well! 10/10 and I'd come again!! read more

Been meaning to come try their chowder, finally got the chance and timing right as they have a Great happy hour deal from 4-6pm! They are located on the 4th level next to Din Tai Fung! Got the seafood chowder, not sure if it's suppose to be this salty but it was extremely salty to the point I was bloated all day! Also got the one piece cod fish and chips! If you're looking for some chowder, this place won't disappoint! I got the 4-cup sampler and it came with 2 pieces of sourdough bread. They all had a unique taste that made each chowder different. I'm not sure if they switch out the chowders as I'm not a local. The ambiance felt like a small take out diner. It's an order and seat yourself place in the mall. This location is on the fourth floor of the Pacific Place shopping center. I have been to this location many times, and it is definitely less crowded than their Post Alley location. Seating is limited, but I have never had an issue finding a table. We ordered the New England Clam Chowder and Pacific Cod Fish N Chips. The chowder was excellent as usual. Arguably the only place I wanted to try when I came to Seattle was Pike Place chowder. Upon arrival on a Monday morning, this place was packed! The line was roughly 40 minutes long. I waited in line and got an order of the original clam chowder as well as a lobster roll. Overall, the clam chowder was good but the entire mark up of price is just a little too ridiculous for me. They charge you $30 for half of a lobster roll that's the size of a White Castle burger. Don't get me wrong, the roll is good but it wasn't $30 good. For me, the price of a food item is a variable that reflects the overall review. I feel as if this company has let their long lines get to their heads and have definitely overpriced all of their menu items. Not to mention, Clam Chowder bowls are $20 bucks. read more

Pike Place Chowder was founded in 2003 on a deep love for the Pacific Northwest and a mission to craft the best chowders using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. What began as a cozy spot in Seattle’s iconic Pike Place Market quickly grew into a local favorite, leading to a second location at Pacific Place in 2007. Family-owned and operated, we proudly serve 100% Certified Sustainable seafood backed by leading conservation organizations. In 2024, the Hillyer family (proud Seattle Natives) took ownership, allowing founder Larry Mellum to retire and focus on his charity work to save Orca whales. Pike Place Chowder was a decent experience, i would say. I thought the chowder was pretty good; it's not necessarily spectacular or "to die for," but definitely better than average. If you're already in the area and craving some chowder, I think it's worth trying, but I personally wouldn't make a special trip just for it. I also tried the fish and chips and enjoyed those as well. They were satisfying and tasted good, but similar to the chowder, nothing that completely blew me away. Everything was enjoyable without necessarily being memorable enough that I'd be rushing back. My biggest hesitation would probably be the prices. They felt a little steep for what you're getting, which may be part of why I walked away thinking, "That was good!" rather than "I NEED to have that again." Buuut, the Pacific Place Mall location is convenient, and when the mall isn't busy, it's actually a nice spot to sit down and enjoy some chowder without dealing with the craziness of Pike Place Market. Good food, convenient location, and in general, a pleasant experience. I'd consider eating here again if I ever visit the area in the future. read more

Decided to go here after getting ripped off at Honest Biscuits down the road (more like Dishonest Biscuits). First off the line was around the corner for this place, but we noticed the ChowNow order ahead would only take about 10 minutes...why prioritize online orders over paying customers who are physically there probably waiting 45 minutes just to order? Anyways I digress...we placed the online order and got some chowder and a couple lobster/crab rolls. The clam chowder and scallop chowder was awesome and felt like you got what you paid for. The rolls on the other hand...holy shit Seattle but what is up with your portions on seafood?? The rolls were *outrageously* expensive for the size of the "roll". In my home state of Maryland this would've been a crime. Also funny to note that the crab roll was actually MORE expensive than the lobster roll even though the crabs are local compared to the lobster. My takeaway from visiting here is that Pike Place is just a money grab for tourists who have no other choice. If you're there, probably should play it safe and get Beecher's and call it a day. read more

"The WORST restaurant experience.I have never experienced such an attitude from a restaurant service ever.... As we walked up a homeless looking woman who claimed to be a employee named Ellen "welcomed" us with a sick joke which was not in a good taste. This coming from a employee with such sick manners would not be kept by reasonable owners. As we approached the counter a second woman showed her displeasure at the fact that my friend read the menu. When we started to order and I let her know that I have a allergy, which normally is not a problem even in very casual restaurants, it looked like it was a major issue for her. We did not continue the experience and went to spend our money elsewhere. No wonder that there were only about 2 people in the restaurant. I was lost on the way here, you have to go down one of those really weird alley ways to get here but it seems like everyone else has got the message because the line was pretty long, about a 20 minute wait from getting in line and ordering. I got confused of the direction of the line and ended up cutting at the very front, thankfully the person reminded me nicely. We got the chowder soup and lobster roll for a total of $55. The soup was creamy and it really warmed me up on that cold day. The lobster was fresh, got the slightest hint of lemon but it was enough to bring out a richer taste. Service is fast, the food is basically already prepped and kept warm. One thing though, is that you really have to wait for your seating. They make it so that you can only sit after ordering food, saving it for their customers only. read more

I have to totally agree with Martine re. her review below of Pike Place Chowder in Pacific Place / Downtown. I love both locations: great quality chowder for a very reasonable price! The best chowder in Seattle bar none! Their seafood bisque chowder is some of the best food,let alone chowder I've had ever. It won all sorts of national awards (I think Rhode Island's National Chowder Competition winner a few years in a row - and that's saying something for a submission from Seattle). It has more of a sanitized feeling than their Pike Place Chowder location in the Pike Place Market, but the food is just as good. I recently visited Pike Place Chowder and was appalled by how poorly they treat their customers. It seems the hype and long queues have gone to their heads. The staff acted as if they were doing us a favor by serving us, with a dismissive and rushed attitude. When I tried to address a concern, the manager was rude and unhelpful, making it clear they couldn't care less about customer satisfaction. No question, the best clam chowder in town!!! I wanted to give five stars but there was one trouble that I got. I was with my friends in line for 20-30 minutes. While we were waiting, I saw some customers coming after us occupied few tables, and they were keeping the seats for their group. Come on! Didn't they see all other people were in the waiting line?? My fiance and I stopped by Pike Place Chowder this past Sat and we are glad we did! We received excellent service from Dae. He was friendly and helpful. He gave us awesome recommendations. The salmon fish and chips and Scallop Chowder were delicious. My fiance doesn't even like scallops, but he enjoyed the chowder! Food here was absolutely amazing. I came to visit Seattle from out of town and heard great things about this restaurant from my friends. This spot was on everyone's favorite restaurant list and I understand why. The lobster roll tasted so fresh and the bread was perfectly soft and crispy. We had the chowder sampler, all of which were very tasty. We also split a cod and chips, which was also quite good. The atmosphere is non-existent. Chowder is over expensive for the small quantity they serve. I came from San Francisco and had chowder 100s of times. This chowder is definitely over hyped and does not taste that great. I had the fish and chips, which are three pieces of Alaskan cod - coming with fries, tartar sauce, and ketchup. These were seriously awesome. I have to first talk about the beer batter on the outside, which has a phenomenal crunch. It's craggly and crunchy in the best of ways - with a consistent crispiness across the entire fish for every piece. I don't think I've ever had a crunch this good on fish and chips. The oil is clearly fresh, and it's served with basically no delay from the frying. I also loved the cod inside. It's super moist and flaky. Obviously, the fish doesn't have a lot of fat, but it makes up for it with a disappearing texture where you barely even need to bite through. They've clearly gotten the formula right on the fish. If that wasn't enough, the fries were easily the best I've ever had with fish and chips. They were hot, thick, and fluffy - a perfect combination that led to delicious results. The portion on these was great as well. If I had one complaint, the tartar sauce wasn't very good. It felt like it was missing both fat and acid, and tasted closer to ranch than what I was expecting a tartar sauce to be. I just didn't end up using it for the fish. Yes, this is pricey. The 3-piece order cost me $26 before tax/tip. That's quite expensive - despite a solid portion size. Is this the best fish and chips in the city? To me it's between this and Pacific Inn Pub. They have a much better tartar sauce and serve a larger portion at a third less of the price, but I think the actual fish and the fries here are better. I would say it's a toss-up - you can't go wrong with either one. Overall, a fantastic new opening that I would love to bring people to. 9/10
