Pike's Place Chowder is some of the best chowder I've ever had. I have been to the Pike's Place market location multiple times, but decided to give this location a try to avoid the crowds. The Pacific Place mall that this is located in is extremely empty and you have to go up the top floor for restaurants, which currently there are only 3 of. Pike's is located next to Din Tai Fung which is extremely popular and unfortunately it fights the crowds waiting for a table there. Service was prompt and friendly, but they didn't offer all of the same chowders that the market location does. I will say, this location does have a number of other seafood options outside of the chowders, though we didn't try any. We got a sampler for $22 which allowed us to try the 4 chowders they did offer: New England clam, seafood bisque, Manhatten style, and maket chowder. All were very good, the seafood bisque was our favorite. Overall, love their chowders and this is a good choice if you want to beat the crowds at Pike's Place, as long as you don't have your heart set on a market specific chowder. read more

I didn't get the hype about this place. A lot of marketing surrounding the fact that they were voted "most popular dish in all of America". Get outta here. I ordered the New England clam chowder, and will be reviewing this based on my experience as a Yankee. First of all, good chowder uses salted pork, or pork fat, but never bacon. While most people believe bacon is a good substitute, its smoky flavor can overpower the flavor of the delicate flavor of the clams. Not sure if butchers outside of New England have salt pork, but it is a must if you're going to say you're the best. Secondly, the chowder has obviously been thickened by some sort of flour or cornstarch. That is not the proper way to make chowder. Real chowder is fairly thin, and only thickened by the starch from potatoes and oyster crackers added on top. I'm almost dumbfounded by the 4-5 star reviews. Did we have the same chowder? Do NOT get the lobster roll. But let's review the chowder first. Ok first of all, the chowder is pretty good albeit a little overpriced. For a very small cup it's about $10. There are a lot of stuff in the chowder and most of them are not just potatoes so it's good chowder. Because of the rich cream flavor it's hard to say whether it's better than other chowder places but it's decent. However do not get the lobster roll. It's extremely expensive at about $35 for 1/4lb and $60 for 1/2lb but they only gives you claw meat. I mean it's literally ALL small lobster claw meat so it's way way way overpriced because the best part of the lobster is the tail meat. It's cheating to say you are selling lobster roll when all you give is lobster claw meat. Also the claws are tiny so they are from sub-1lb lobsters which are extremely cheap. For them to charge $36-$50 for the rolls is just ridiculous. Also the Connecticut lobster roll is kinda sour and really not delicious. The line can be long and the interior place is really small. Outside area is also tiny so I don't recommend any large party to come here. You line up and pay at the counter and then almost immediately you get your food so it's fairly efficient. I do not like the they do the same kiosk trip of asking you for 18%, 20%, 25% tips by default for a basically togo place with basically no additional service. Overall it's a tourist trap and if you have to go just order the chowder and get your actual meal somewhere else. read more

If a chowder place is named after the most iconic place in Seattle, you know you just have to see what the hype is all about. ...and I'll say, this chowder here is very good!! Though I wouldn't say it was the very best I've ever had, I still give it a pretty solid rating. The chowders here are hearty and tasty, and comforting as a bowl of soup should be. I tried the sampler so I was able to try four different chowders- the New England, Seafood bisque, Manhattan style, and Market choice. I'm so glad the sampler gave me the option to try different chowders because I realized I liked the Manhattan style chowder the best, which probably wouldn't be my first choice if I had to choose only 1 or 2 chowders to try. So if you can, I highly recommend the sampler so you get to try the different varieties. I promise they all are pretty good- in fact, I found out the chowder here is award winning so if you don't believe me, here's your proof of how good this place is. 6 years ago I visited to Seattle and wanted to try out Pike Place Chowder in Pike Place but our timing was off and the place was closing for the day. And while my plans in Seattle mostly revolve around me eating at Pike Place Market, I decided to skip even trying to wait in line for Pike Place Chowder over there (due to the impatient kiddos) and instead headed to their Pacific Mall location. It did not disappoint! The kids ordered Chicken strips n' chips and clam strips and loved them. My daughter also wanted to order chowder fries, which seemed to be pouring chowder over fries. We vetoed that request (not sure that she'd really like it) in lieu of me telling her that she was welcome to dip her fries into my sampler chowder. She did and proved us wrong by her total love of our version of chowder fries. My husband didn't order anything at first and said he wanted to try out the sampler first (geesh my sampler certainly became a free for all for everyone!). After sampling the original New England clam chowder, manhattan clam chowder, market chowder, and seafood bisque he landed on getting himself a huge bowl New England clam chowder - which since there wasn't a line when we were there... took him no time at all to obtain. As for me, I loved having the sample since I didn't know what to get. I love that they offer several different kind of chowders and I've tried most of them, all of them are all delicious and amazing in their own flavor/taste.
