It is hard to find something more comforting than a warm homemade biscuit the size of your fist stuffed with fried chicken, bacon, cheese, and drowned in gravy. We tried The Reggie with Sausage Gravy and Hot Buttered Rum Pop Tart, both were tasty. The prices are a bit steep, but considering that the biscuits are made in house (you can watch the biscuits being made from the pick-up window) and the ingredients are locally sourced, I think the cost is justified. When I eat here again, I would get the Reggie Deluxe (comes with an egg) and extra gravy because the gravy is that good. I don't think I would get the hot buttered rum pop tart again because it wasn't anything special. I will comment that it wasn't too sweet, which I appreciated. They have an outdoor patio with a few tables and side walk seating. On a Saturday morning around 8 am it was first come, first serve seating. We were able to sit down right away. Each table has a unique QR code where you place your order, then the server brings you your food and drink. Please bus your own table! You will have to get your own utensils. They are inside. They also have water and cups inside. I can always rely on Pine State to hit the spot every time. I've been here countless of times but my go-to order is definitely The Reggie Deluxe with mushroom gravy. It's packed with so much flavor and just so hearty and filling. It has honestly never done me wrong. Some other menu items worth trying are their hash ups, blueberry cornmeal pancakes, biscuit beignets, and their seasonal pop tarts. The biscuit beignets are truly heaven sent and if I can remember correctly, they come with this dipping sauce that is insanely delicious. Just recently, I had their seasonal strawberry almond pop tart and that is definitely my favorite by far of the few that I've tried. I also ventured and tried the McIsley sandwich this time around but gotta say, The Reggie Deluxe is still the best way to go! I love coming to this Alberta location even pre-COVID because of how spacious it is and because of the outdoor back patio seating area. My boyfriend and I recently came here this past weekend (8/30/2020) for one of our first dine in experiences since SIP and the staff are following all safety protocols. They have a QR code that you scan so that you can access the menu via your phone. There are markings on the ground to ensure everyone is spaced 6 ft apart while waiting to place your order. This place is known for their biscuits in all combos. As a vegan, I enjoyed their vegan mushroom gravy. They did have a veg option I think for the biscuit. But thats about it. My group also tried their homemade pop tart, fried chicken biscuit and the waffle. It's super packed and the wait is long. My group even came back for a second time before leaving Portland! Definitely a fan favorite for non vegans. From a vegan perspective, I've definitely tried my fair share of both vegan and mom vegan comfort food and definitely have had winning vegan fried chicken biscuits with sauces and dishes that throw everything out of the park. So as a vegan, I probably wouldn't really mark this as a go-to with all the other great options in Portland. This was our second amazing meal of our recent Portland trip and we are so excited to come back in a couple months to try them again! Dropping in the line was out the door, however PSB had some very comfortable heaters outdoors which made the short wait not as bad as expected. I ordered the The McIsley and a plain biscuit with sausage and apple butter. The apple butter and McIsley were amazing. The McIsley was put together perfectly and all the wonderful flavors complimented each other. The sausage patty tasted not fresh, and overcooked. I ended up taking one bite and tossing it. The service was helpful and friendly, and seating on the patio was comfortable and warm. I even adored their on point 50's/60's music selection! VEGAN REVIEW: sadly, very disappointing. We visited Pine State Biscuits after passing by many times and reading all of the great Yelp reviews. Both the menu and the reviews mention various vegan options, but unfortunately THERE ARE NO VEGAN OPTIONS HERE. The vegetarian biscuit is listed as having vegan sausage, but do not let this fool you. I asked if it could be made vegan by leaving off the cheese and the person taking our order quickly barked "we don't have anything vegan". He then changed his statement and said "well, I guess the hash browns and collard greens are vegan". At the same time, another employee overheard our conversation and jumped in to say even though the hash browns were listed as being vegan, they were only made vegan by special request. As someone who is vegan with food intolerances, this type of misinformation is extremely disappointing. While I don't expect every restaurant to have vegan options, I trust that items listed as vegan are truly so. I will say that non-vegans in my group thoroughly enjoyed their food, but if you are vegan, find yourself another option. read more

We knew we were expecting a long wait but I didn't really understand why there was one. We came on a Friday morning and only had about 8 people in front of us (about 4 parties). It took 45 minutes to even get to the front to order and still waited some time to get our food and eat. At first, I thought we were waiting to be seated or waiting for the restaurant to be lower than their maximum capacity but you seat yourself and was quite empty inside. You order at the front so I was confused on why the line took so long to just order. I understand if a restaurant is short-staffed but that did not seem to be the case. The staff didn't have the greatest customer service. One employee was actually quite rude and questioned why I was sitting at the "larger" table. Understandable considering it was just me at first but she told me to move and didn't ask me if I was with a party. I was with a party of 6 and the rest of them were ordering right after me. I kindly informed her that my party was ordering and that I ordered for dining in and she just turned away. I'm usually really nice to employees so was surprised about the service. For the food, it was average for the most part. The price isn't too bad (I'm coming from California) but maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. I was looking at getting the Reggie Deluxe or the Chatfield but the staff recommended getting the BBQ Biscuit. I wish the BBQ sauce was more potent as you can barely taste it and the house slaw didn't provide much flavor. It was very average. I definitely should have gone with my gut with the Reggie Deluxe or the Chatfield. My friends' food were quite tasty for the most part. The hashbrowns were oddly sweet and wondered if they cooked it with syrup but was nice and crispy. Their homemade jam is quite nice as well. My friend had ordered a hot chocalate but it was mainly milk with a splash of chocolate. The 3 stars were mainly for the wait and the service. Loved the layout and eating area in terms of offering a chill group friendly environment on the patio it felt very cozy and social. Oh my... Delicious. That is all I can think to say. Pine State is one of those places everyone insists you try. I've found that when places are so built up, they can often be disappointing. That was sure not the case here. We ordered a ton of food. A bourbon caramel cinnamon roll, apple pop tart, and hashups. I got the Reggie Delux (forgot to take a picture), and my sister went with the Regina. It was WAY more food than we needed, but it was so delicious we ate every last bite. The cinnamon roll and pop tart were excellent - the pastries were well cooked and bursting with flavor. Personally, I preferred the roll, but you can't go wrong. The hashups are a simple dish - hashbrowns with onions, mushrooms, and cheese on top. While simple, the taters are crispy and the seasoning is perfect. The biscuit was more of the same. The chicken is tender and flavorful, biscuit is great, and the toppings are too. If you are looking for a heavy, heart stopping dish, you won't be dissapointed! I don't mind noise and people close by, but you may, my husband is more of an introvert and noted he was glad we got fed quick. We ordered a bunch of dishes--the Reggie, the Reggie Deluxe, Pancakes and Biscuits and Gravy--to name a few and everyone was happy with their dishes. I personally have ordered the Reggie Deluxe a few times (at this location and their SE Division location). It's so good! Their pies are great too. I've tried both their Pecan Pie and Chess Pie and both are delightful. Not too sweet and love the flaky crust.
