We showed up well after noon, so getting in wasn't hard. I can see how it might get tough at times though. I had the Reuben and it was textbook. My daughter got the chicken salad sandwich on the fluffiest white break you've seen. We both chose the side salad, which was a delightful mix of greens with sprouts. I had to finish off the meal with a vanilla malt. It was not clear to me if they made the ice cream, but they were generous with the malt. Best malt I've had in years. When you come in you'll see simple black tables and chairs, with the walls decorated in traditional fashion, typical of Mexico. Photos of famous Mexican figures line the east wall while the register area has figurines and little statues of Aztec style animals painted in almost a Huichol style. Reminiscent of Artesanias you would buy in country when on a cruise. There are some indoor plants and a menu that fits everything front and back on 1 page. The food options are reasonably priced and for the first time since being in Wichita did I see a restaurant finally offer students a 10% discount. A young man works the counter and an older couple works the kitchen. He was very respectful and with a smile answered all questions and was honest with helping decide an option between multiple choices I inquired about. Tried the guacamole, the chimichanga, and the taco trio. I will break these down individually. Guacamole was typical of what you'd expect but it is clear that the ingredients are fresh and it's home made the effort in plating was well appreciated. The chimichanga is by far the best in Wichita bar none. I was pleasantly surprised by the plating presentation of it. How it is prepared is different than what you would get at MOST authentic Mexican restaurants in the city. If you are one that sticks to what you're comfortable with when outing for Mexican I'd say this is an easy go to. What I enjoyed about the taco trio is that the server said that I could have 3 tacos all in different meats, so I obliged. He then asked if I would like salsa in ramekins on the side and I asked if he recommended. With a smile he nodded yes and so off he went. The food to order time was approximately 15 minutes, and when the plates got to the table you could tell the food is made with love. Kudos to whoever is back there cooking the delicious food. I did not know they served home made tortillas until I saw it on the menu. Both the green and red salsa for the tacos are excellent, and I recommend anyone who goes to ask for it. The home made tortillas were also incredible for the tacos. This restaurant is absolutely worth checking out, and I will be coming back here often.
