We were staying in the area and tried this diner for breakfast. The staff were friendly and the service was fairly quick. We had 3 little ones in our group, and the staff were good with them. The omelette I had was good, but the home fries were a little bland. They brought us paper cups for water instead of glass or plastic, which I didn't love. Overall, this is a fine place to grab breakfast but I didn't think it was anything special. read more

We were staying at nearby Kalahari resort, and I always prefer a local diner to any overpriced and overrated resort restaurant. Reviews pointed me here, and I'm glad they did. Pioneer was a great breakfast spot, serving breakfast all day. Our boys had the chocolate chip pancakes and blueberry pancakes, my husband had their #2 breakfast combo (eggs, bacon, pancakes, home fries), and I was craving an egg, cheese, Taylor ham sandwich with home fries (I'm originally a Jersey girl, just visiting from Virginia). Everything was tasty and plentiful, for reasonable prices. Coffee was delicious too. Service was friendly and fast, and it wasn't too crowded on a Friday morning at 10am. Highly recommend, especially if you're staying at one of the nearby resorts. read more

We wont ever be back or encourage anyone to. The manager was very attentive to my husband and even though I walked in first, she acknowledged him an asked him where we would like to sit. The food was ok, (forget the ants on our table) the service was ok not worth a repeat visit. As we left the manager again ignored the rest of the party but was again very attentive to my husband. We are from out of town. Never been there before. Saw it driving by. After some research we decided to try it. The yelp reviews don't do it justice. We sat down at 9am before it got busy. Terrible Customer Service - Manager Needs to Go I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Pioneer Diner was disappointing enough that I feel compelled to share. Upon arrival, the manager asked how many were in our party. I told her six, but before I could explain that only four of us were present, she curtly informed me that we couldn't be seated until everyone had arrived -- and then rudely walked away before I could suggest switching to a table for four. When she finally returned, we decided to sit at the counter since she refused to seat us otherwise. Later, when our other two friends showed up, I politely asked if we could move a utensil basket to make room for them. The manager flat-out refused, saying that was "her seat" and no one could sit there -- despite there being more than enough space. To make matters worse, I noticed that she replenished her utensil supply from under the counter, making the basket completely unnecessary in the first place. The servers were kind and attentive, but the manager's attitude was dismissive, unprofessional, and frankly, controlling. It's clear she has a power complex, and her behavior created an uncomfortable and unwelcoming atmosphere. I hope the owner reads this and seriously considers finding a new manager -- because this kind of treatment will drive customers away. I know I won't be back anytime soon. read more

Cute diner that is perfect for breakfast. I ordered a chicken fried steak that was not on the menu. The portion is on small side to other restaurants with the same dish. The country gravy is really good though! Very meaty. The hashbrowns were very bland. Some of the potatoes tasted a little undercooked. My son loved the chicken and waffles. The tenders were very juicy. Waffle was on the softer side. The corn beef hash was okay. Not the best or worst we've ever had. read more

My family and I have been coming to this diner for almost 18 years. At least three times a month. But our last five visits have tainted the impression we've had of this place. Aside from the usual funny looks we get from the staff and other diners, its cleanliness has come downhill. The last 5 times we had the following issues Dirty utensils Spoiled half and half And last weekend, a coffee cup with lipstick on it. That was the last straw. Either this was an attempt to keep us from going back )after all, This is Trumps country) or they're just lost the quality they had in the past, the older ladies who were originally there kept things more decent. read more

For the price you really cannot complain and I honestly don't know why this place isn't rated higher. There was plenty of well lit seating even on a holiday week. We went to a different highly rated breakfast diner (Hickory valley) in the area and it was twice as expensive with much worse food. It's not the best diner food I have ever had but this place needs a boost in ratings because it's one of the better options and deserves more than a 3 star rating. read more

Based on the reviews, we weren't expecting much from the Pioneer Diner. When you need a good non-Kalahari priced breakfast though, you go where you can. Pioneer Diner is located on a divided highway, and you might have to go up the road and turn around to enter the parking lot. Parking lot isn't huge and is in semi-rough condition. Interior is what you would expect from a diner, nothing fancy. Seating could be an issue during busy times. Has an extensive breakfast menu, from which I ordered the Two Fresh County Eggs with Bacon. Our groups order arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Potatoes were sliced, not hash browns, and a nice surprise. Bacon was huge slices and perfect. Rest of the table also enjoyed what they ordered. Prices were what I would expect with diner food. Overall, Pioneer Diner was a pleasant surprise and I would return. read more

Our usual breakfast spot when we stay at the Kalahari resort in the Poconos. This most recent visit however wasn't great. The food wasn't great - I asked for blueberry pancakes, one of the pancakes had no blueberries, the other two had maybe 3 blueberries in them. The omelettes my husband and kid's ordered they said were gross - tasted like pepperoni instead of sausage in their omelettes. I'm just hoping the issues was due to being busy and they will be back to their usual good quality when we return in a couple of months. read more

Too bad I didn't read the other reviews before going because apparently the owner (?) is frequently horribly rude. When we arrived with our two young children, the neon sign said "open" and a sign posted that they weren't seating past 12:45. Happily, it was 12:44 - just under the wire! Nope. Service was ok, my food was not. Nice staff and food came out quickly. Regular eggs and toast were good, according to my kids. I had the Pioneer Omelet, which was Ok. The home fries (or maybe they were called hash browns) were the worst I have ever had. It looked like overcooked vermicelli and my teeth still remember how hard most pieces were. Also no flavor. Probably sitting on the grill for hours. Oh and I tried a bite of sausage link and it tasted like a sponge. Won't be back. read more

Closing my duplicate account so I am reposting this because this diner was worth transferring the review for. 05-19-2019 - I have no idea what these bad reviews are about. My boyfriend and I came here today (we are from NYC staying close by for activities). I got a cheeseburger and fries and my boyfriend got a grilled chicken cheesesteak (DELICIOUS shredded and then grilled chicken omg so good). My burger was perfect in taste and DID NOT FALL APART WHILE I ATE IT like most burgers do. My french fries were crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside. So many selling points here. Our appetizer came out VERY quickly as did our food. Also, our server was SUPER attentive, quick, and friendly. I think the majority of these reviews come from high maintenance New Yorkers. 100% recommend Update: we took the lemon crumble pie to go and just ate it today ...... best pie I have ever had. read more

Looks like a little hole in the wall but we were pleasantly surprised with the decor and setup once inside. There was no wait and best of all the food was affordable! The service was ok. Our waitress was pleasant enough but was forgetful on some items requested. The quality of the food was good. The waffle was one of the best I've had! The pancakes were also great. My group of five is here for a car club convention at the resort, and preferred to not pay $$$ for chicken sandwiches, so loaded up the sedan and drove towards town. Spotted this diner on the corner, a bit difficult to navigate to (had to pass, then U turn in the wendy's lot to enter the diner). It turned out to be the best decision we made all day. Service was pleasant and quick. Food was typically diner food, and plenty of it. We all left refreshed and satisfied. Would do it again in a minute!!! read more

It's a DINER... counter seating and all... Pastries and desserts on display .. Very warm welcome when you walk through the door... It's a diner menu....any and all breakfast foods.. Sandwiches of your choice and of course the comfort foods. This place was very neat and clean. Specious can accommodate large parties too. Maria... our waitress was so very sweet and could not do enough to make sure our lunch and my first visit was a pleasurable one. The roast beef club was good the meat was sliced so very thin as was tomato and cheese the Greek salad was fresh and crisp. Must say the portions are more than ample and the price is right too!
