My group of five is here for a car club convention at the resort, and preferred to not pay $$$ for chicken sandwiches, so loaded up the sedan and drove towards town. Spotted this diner on the corner, a bit difficult to navigate to (had to pass, then U turn in the wendy's lot to enter the diner). It turned out to be the best decision we made all day. TERRIBLE service. Absolutely terrible. The waiter took our order never came back and 45 mins passed. I called over the manager to ask for the update on our food. Then I finally see the waiter I asked how come you disappeared and never updated us on the food or anything. She SAID well you already asked my manager I can't make the food cook any faster! Service was good, the waitress filled our coffee on time, she was very friendly. A cute little diner that my cousins and I went to for breakfast. The food was quite good and given how many of us ordered, the price wasn't bad either. I got the chicken and waffles and was very pleased with it. Perfectly good, and better once they get to know you. This diner has been here forever. The menu has a good mix of foods, from burgers and fries to moussaka and avgolemono (lemon soup) it has something to tempt every palate. In true diner fashion, breakfast is served all day. Sadly, this family run restaurant is not open 24 hours, but we can forgive this, as even when the place is busy they are still only half filled. Last night my family ate dinner at the Pioneer Diner. My mother had Spanikopita, I had tyro pita, and my son had Spaghetti with meatballs. We all walked away full and happy. Two booths away, a man was dining with his toddler grandson. While they ate, the waitstaff played peek-a-boo with the boy, who filled the diner with happy sounds. As we left, I heard two waitresses talking about the boy's older brother and about his father. My son heard this as well, turned to me and said, "This is our kind of place. The food is good, the people are nice, and they recognize you when you come back." He is exactly right. read more

Came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. I ordered the SPECIAL #2 it was AMAZING. The French toast was delicious the eggs were made with perfection:). Not going to say it can meet sophisticated standards of New Yorkers, however they carry the main idea of the dining place with pride- FOOD IS GOOD!i have my breakfast routine I usually take- 2 sunny side ups with home fries and chopped onion and whole-wheat toast ; sometimes very rare i may spoil myself with waffles. What i love about it is that they DONT salt the food i eat- love it love it. So you can always measure saltness yourself, it has very very home taste! Delicious little spot. Location is a little tough to get into but the food is well worth it! My husband got the "pioneer burger" (bacon burger) and I got the french toast special. His burger was on a sesame seed bun, served with a pickle and a side of coleslaw. For mine, the eggs were done just as I ordered. The home fries had a nice crunch, then a soft middle. The french toast was a nice big piece of challah bread sprinkled lightly with powdered sugar. Truly a little pocono gem. Thank you for the delicious food and great service! read more

I have no idea what these bad reviews are about. My boyfriend and I came here today (we are from NY staying close by for activities). I got a cheeseburger and fries and my boyfriend got a grilled chicken cheesesteak (DELICIOUS shredded and then grilled chicken omg so good). My burger was perfect in taste and DID NOT FALL APART WHILE I ATE IT like most burgers do. My french fries were crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside. So many selling points here. Our appetizer came out VERY quickly as did our food. Also, our server was SUPER attentive, quick, and friendly. I think the majority of these reviews come from high maintenance New Yorkers. 100% recommend Update: we took the lemon crumble pie to go and just ate it today ...... best pie I have ever had. read more

Both of our tables were never offered a refill for our drinks once. At the end of the meal we were given the wrong check and had to wait even longer for them to find our check. Classic diner. I stop in for breakfast every year as I travel through the Poconos, and I have never been disappointed in the least. It's probably been 10 years now running. I usually sit at the counter, but before I actually sit down, the server gets my order for coffee, and by the time I look up again, the steaming cup is in front of me. Simply put, it's beyond fast food service timing, but without that machine-made, artificial quality. The food's out fast, too. My most recent meal was to try the egg white spinach omelette, and it was excellent. Some people might complain that it wasn't flavorful enough, but the nice thing about it was that it wasn't a salt bomb - which can be a risk at diners. If you want that saltiness, you have the option to add it yourself. The owner is a Korean war Army vet, and I asked him once whether he learned food service in the army. "No", he replied, "in an armored division, on a tank." You can image what that was like, and this was a war that ended before I was born. Family is from Oympia, Greece. He's still working the cash register. Now, are these people what has made America great, or what? Don't miss out on the home-made Greek items. I had a take-out order of the baklava, and it was, wow, simply the best I've every tasted. I asked the waitress how long she's been working there. The Pioneer is okay, nothing too special. They are your more or less standard diner, with a better breakfast than lunch/dinner, if you ask me. I've had several pretty good breakfasts here, good service, well made, and served up pretty quickly as I remember. It is a Greek diner (aren't they all?), and they do have some nice Greek dishes...if you like the Greek food. As to the scrapple; welcome to PA, scrapple is in darn near every diner from Philly, to Scranton, to Happy Valley. It's great! As my mom told me after I asked her about it, "It's everything but the oink." All the meat scraps...ALL the meat scraps, some organ meat (traditionally), seasonings and a generous dose of corn meal. Grind it all up, press it into a loaf, then slice pieces off to cook on a skillet or deep fry. Not heart healthy, but very tasty...give it a try, you might be surprised. read more

Well.. I've been here twice. I got the same waitress both times. The first time she was not nice & I never got a refill on my drink (at least to me); she was ok to the BF. (He had gone several times before alone, or at least without me/with others.) The 2nd time I went she was VERY pleasant & attentive. Total 180°. The food the 1st time was Ok. Not great, but ok.I've had better Greek food and better breakfast food. ****The 2nd time, I SWEAR TO WHOEVER, I LITERALLY GOT FOOD POISONING.**** What I ate made me sick. And just to be sure, I stupidly had some leftovers the next day (very little, just to see, if this IS IN FACT, what made me sick... And sure enough.. it was). I ordered Moussaka. The crust was hard and not edible. I could not chew it, it was so plastic-y & overdone. Whatever was on top-- some cheese or eggs crap-- was either undercooked, not cooked or went bad-- as in spoiled. And it tasted bad, too. The meat & eggplant probably weren't too fresh either, because I scraped off the bad top layer off unknown 'stuff' and still got sick, even on the 2nd day. (Of my left over experiment) I wanted to like this place... But I just can't. Nor would I ever lie about a place's food making me sick. And it did :( read more

Decent diner. This place was recommended by the attendant at the front desk. I ordered the french toast special, comes with eggs, ham, and home fries. My partner had the spinach and mushroom omelet. Needed some salt and pepper but for a diner very decent. They had something on the menu called scrapple. When I asked the waitress what it was, she frowned. Apparently, this is something you don't want to order. She explained it as scrapes of meat bound together to form a patty. Ewww. She said locals only eat it. That was good enough for me. read more

Just had dinner and worst service ever. The waitress hardly spoke a couple words. I asked for sour cream she came back and threw on the table. She did a quick walk by as she uttered "are you good?". I spent the weekend at the Poconos with my kids. My kids woke up starving the morning after we got there. So I was frantically searching the web to find nearby breakfast spots. So I found Pioneer Diner and called them for take out, bad decision. The woman that answered the phone was not friendly at all. And after taking my order I asked her for the total and she wouldn't give it to me because "it was too busy to calculate". Ok fine, I thought I was going to go there to pick up my order and possibly pay around $25 max. I was WRONG! My total came to $61. I ordered three platters which included pancakes, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs with cheese and three orange juices. I thought when I got back to my hotel I was going to be enjoying some delicious breakfast for that price. Oh noooo. The food was BLAND and nasty. The pancakes were burnt and the bacon was undercooked. The "home fries" was just cut up potatoes, no onions, no peppers, no salt.... No nothing. And I looked at my receipt days later and noticed that they added a $5 tip that I didn't know I gave them. I wouldn't have tipped them anything. Please think twice before ordering from this place. Oh, I almost forgot, the place looked like a dump, if I had driven there before ordering I wouldn't of ordered from there at all. I had Ordered two bacon egg and cheeses to go. Also a side of hashbrowns. The sandwich's were one egg covering half the roll cooked to death with two scrawny old bacon strips on a two day old roll. Worse sandwich period I've ever eaten. The hashbrowns were just potatoes fried on a griddle. No onions,peppers, salt, or pepper. Bland bland bland! If you eat in they have a system for the waitresses to let them know their order is ready. A loud bell of sorts rings and the number lights up on a board 1-8 . I nearly jumped from my chair. We are staying at Kalahari with our children and wanted an healthy, inexpensive breakfast. We are a family of 6 and breakfast cost us $46 and was delicious! The owner has been there since 1974 and is a veteran of the Korean War. He serves coffee and jokes with the kids. It is a 12 min drive off the Kalahari property and well worth it! After my companions ordered I said "Just the water is great with me, thanks!" to which she replies "So you want water. 'Just water' isn't a drink. Water is." Uhhhh??? Okay?? We moved on from it though. I ordered a sandwich with roast beef and horseradish on it expecting deliciousness. Not at all. This thing was so drenched in horseradish it was soggy, and as soon as I bit into it my eyes were watering so bad it looked like I was crying. I couldn't even eat it. I gave the place two stars as my brother had an "okay" burger and my mother had a dry, but edible tuna melt. Kind of pricey for crappy diner food, in my opinion. For two drinks, a plain burger with fries and a plain tuna melt it came close to twenty bucks. read more
