SUMMARY - though this is the closest bbq place to our home and we used to like it. We will be visiting every other one in the area looking for better BBQ and a better value before we will consider returning to this restaurant again. I'm sorry but I've had better - including from this very restaurant years ago. Went through the drive-thru tonight and got 2 chopped-beef potatoes for $20 + tip - Meh. Main issue is the quantity starting with not much beef on the potatoes. Beef was good, not best ever, but we enjoyed it. We're just used to getting sliced beef sandwiches from here with lots of meat. The quantity of everything else was just laughable. Hardly any cheese - my husband didn't even realize it had cheese on it until I complained about how little there was. Sour cream & butter came separately in small plastic cups - okay, whatever. Thing was - so did the "extra" bbq sauce I requested - I mean it was a small plastic cup AND it wasn't even full. I mean why the stinginess??!! Glad I ordered extra or I might not have had any. I was expecting the larger, though still small Styrofoam cup - which brings me to my "pickles" request. At least the above came per potato. I had also requested some pickles. I received one small Styrofoam cup with pickles in it - hardly more than enough to cover the bottom of the cup. They definitely would have fit in ONE of the small plastic containers the other items were in so don't know why they switched the type of container. So glad I tipped the drive-thru waitress :-/ Reminder to self - check order before tipping. One last thing - good thing I was taking the food home. The pictures looked great but another fail in the bbq department in the woodlands. I asked for extra bbq and got enough to add a hint of flavor to my already naked potato. The meat was sliced but not chopped and not generous at all. The green onions were dehydrated onions sprinkled on. Sour cream, butter, and bbq came on the side in small portions (after asking for extra). Today might have been the 2nd worst day of my life and I just wanted some good bbq and got the farthest thing from it. Guess the potato matched my week! OK. I was born and raised in Texas and after adolescence I joined the Navy where I have travelled all over the world and tried just about every style of meat indigenous to those areas (hold back the distasteful jokes if you would). Being from Texas I always had a certain taste in mind. Nowhere else in the world compares. Yes, brisket is the word. I don't know what happened over the last 11 years but something has been lost at least in this area. Pit-master is the closest thing to the fond memory of BBQ as opposed to the other joints I've come across around here. Smokey flavor, but small portions in relation to the price. I would go back but I'm not buying and the place is very Texas BBQ ambiance equipped. Stay away from Pappas and go here not during rush hour. Anyone who knows a great place in the north Houston area let me know. I hear Huntsville has a place but that's a drive, ya know. 3 stars due to lack of competition. read more

The food is good however the service is terrible. I don't know if it's family run or they just think good food out weighs friendly staff. It's high school kids that treat you terrible. They act so put out that you had the nerve to interrupt their social hour to eat. We have been numerous times hoping that the last time was just a bad day for servers..nope rude every time. The food is good but I won't pay anymore to be treated bad. I can find good BBQ elsewhere. Things need to change. Paying customers deserve respect. Get another job if life is that hard serving the whole 7 tables you have. I hope one day it turns around but reading others reviews I think they are proud to be hateful. Too bad. OMG!! Wish I could rate this place a ZERO. Absolutely the rudest restaurant encounter I have EVER experienced. I asked to substitute chicken for the turkey that comes on a Big Sissy salad ($8.99). They had to go ask. First was told it would be a $3.95 upcharge and 10 minute wait while they grilled the chicken. I explained I wanted the smoked chicken that was already cooked. Had to go ask again, came back and said it would be $4.95 upcharge (more than half what the original salad costs!!) I told them never mind, I would just take the turkey. I asked for a menu and saw the turkey dinner and chicken dinner cost the same ($9.99) When she returned to the window with my salad with turkey, I inquired why there would be more than a 50% upcharge to substitute a meat that costs the same. She said it was because they would have to pick the chicken off the bone.....seriously??? So I asked if I just let them leave it on the bone would there be no extra charge....again, "let me go ask". I said never mind, it doesn't matter, I won't be back. To which Sissy (apparently the owner's very snobby, rude and quite honestly b*&%$y daughter) replies "and I don't care". Wait, what??? Did she really just say that??? Yes she did!! So about the food.....salad was mediocre at best. Turkey was flavorless, lettuce had brown edges, and the cheese was sliced sandwich cheese....there are only three dressing options....and the toast is soggy. I can certainly see why there was NO one in line right in the middle of the noon lunch hour, while right around the corner at Corkscrew people are standing outside in line for 30 minutes for much better food, much better hospitality and VERY friendly service. Can't stress enough how much I would NOT recommend this place. Sign says "voted best BBQ in Woodlands", I seriously don't know who voted....thinking it must have been some homeless people who had not eaten in three days. read more

My family and I went here when corkscrew was closed, and still had a nice time. Our waitress was very friendly and gave good suggestions on what to order when we needed help. There were generous portion sizes, and the ribs were awesome. The only complaint is that the coleslaw had a weird taste to it, like licorice. read more

My family has been coming to Pit Master BBQ for years and they had never failed to disappoint, until this weekend. Walking in, we weren't greeted in a timely manner until I turned to walk away. Arriving at our table only to find it dirty with food debris and drink stains. We asked the man seating us if he could clean the table. He made a sarcastic remark to the fact that "oh for the water rings"....NO, for the nasty food from the previous customers! He had an attitude wiping the table and the final wipe motion was toward my lap! From there it continued to get worse. He never returned with our drinks and pawned off serving us to his coworker. When she finally brought our drinks after serving everyone around us first, she finally took our order, she didn't bring all that was ordered, and we had NO utensils to eat with! Then she came to check on us once, and never returned. I had to go ask for our check and a to go box. No acknowledgement when we left. I was told they have new ownership. Its really terrible how poor management can run a business downhill! They aren't the only BBQ place in town and we will look for other options! read more

I don't know how this place has gotten all the good reviews. It is horrible and is not representative of what Texas BBQ should be. Chopped beef sandwich was all gristle/fat and the potato salad horrendous. All mayonnaise (no mustard) and had what looked like grass in it. Pit-Master BBQ in The Woodlands is the best. On a personal level, we get take out all the time. We love their brisket and the potato salad is out of this world good. The ribs satisfy every time! On a professional level, they catered our faculty at The Woodlands HS during an in-service and everyone was happy. The meat is wonderfully smoked, the sauce is great and their catering expertise is wonderful. Everything was set up and ready to go without a hitch. South Montgomery County has some great food but Pit-Master is one of the best. As a result of the catering event and a few leftovers, my family is now in love with the chopped brisket. Ate here today after I learned Corkscrew was out of food. Got the sliced BBQ sandwich, BBQ beans, and potato salad. I wasn't too impressed - the sandwich lacked meat and the meat lacked any BBQ flavor - it's supposed to be "smoky". It didn't fall apart in my mouth with a bite as it was a little tough. The only thing that gave it flavor was the sauce. The BBQ beans had too much sugar in them, and didn't belong in a BBQ place. I'd rather eat Rudy's. read more

I've eaten at a few BBQ places and for the longest time I was not impressed until I came across Pit Masters! The food is great and the service is even better! I always look forward to their brisket/sausage plate and their BBQ sauce is amazing! Everyone staff I've ever spoken with has been really friendly and always helpful. I've been several times to both locations and while they don't serve identical menus, the food is just as good at both spots. My 2 brothers, my nephew and I were in the Woodlands and decided we were hungry for BBQ. This place seemed to be reasonably recommended. So we show up at 5 until Noon on Saturday to find the restaurant with about 25% of their table occupied. The place is dead. On brother is 6'2" 250 lbs, one is 5'10" 240 lbs, the nephew is 5'9" 150 lbs and I am 5'9" 240 lbs. We are NOT small people. The waitress proceeds to try and seat us at a rectangular table that buts up against the wall. The small chairs barely fit against the table and are touching the wall. We assess the situation and request a larger table so that we wont have to sit in each other's lap. These tables will be tight for even regular sized people. Looking around I count 8 empty tables that seat 6, 2 tables that appear to seat 8 - 10 and over 10 tables that seat 2 - 4. This place is empty! And yet, our server refused to allow us to sit at a larger table as they had to be "saved for larger parties". Now, I know we are not skinny, and have a sense of humor, so I suggest we are a "larger party" and again request a larger table, only to be told absolutely not. Therefore I suggest that we will dine elsewhere rather than be crammed into one of their small tables, to which I was informed was perfectly acceptable with her. I asked to speak to the manager, and was promptly told that she was the manager.... so we left. I could understand if they were busy, but this place was empty and it was already Noon, the lunch rush was there. A happy ending though. We went to Rudy's at 45 & Louetta, spent $80 and had a fantastic BBQ lunch! At Rudy's they even told us they were happy we came to dine with them! read more

It was OK. I had high expectations after hearing so much about it. Their sausage was good, Their brisket was not. The Turkey was OK. We got an assortment of sides, and they were all very good! I felt the ribs and turkey were cooked beautifully but under seasoned for my taste. The brisket was dry, did not look appetizing and was extremely bland. I was also disappointed in the tea. It had a very strong chlorine flavor. Their Carolina style sauce had great flavor, the texas sauce was OK. Both were too thin for my liking. If I go back, I will try their pulled pork and put that Carolina sauce on it, I bet that will be great! Their blackberry cobbler was very good, but you can skip the banana pudding. I love little places like this and maybe my expectations were too high, but I will go there again when I'm in the area to give their pulled pork a try. read more

I had a dental appointment next door and hadn't eaten lunch, so I went in hungry and hoping to get some good bar-b-que. It had been over a year since I last ate bbq from a bbq restaurant and it from a place on Tamina Rd., but I can't remember the name. My father got it for me while I was in the hospital and the moment it was placed in front of me I could smell the smoke and the brisket was so tender, juicy and smoke flavored, that it didn't need sauce. Same with the ribs. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Pit Master. I ordered the chopped beef sandwich without looking at the menu. I had no idea it was it was $8.99, which is over priced to me. I'd never been to a place where the sandwich came with a side, whether you wanted it or not, which I didn't. So, I got a bag of chips. I didn't get that smoke scent you expect when you go into a bbq place, nor did I get a very good smoked flavor from the sandwich. I had a ride come to pick me up and had to leave before I was finished. My waitress was very helpful and I was so hurried I forgot to tip her. I will do so next dental appointment, as the food had nothing to do with her. Since I hadn't had bbq in so long, I decided the "Pit Master" combo of brisket, ribs and sausage for dinner later. I was very disappointed. Not only did it not have a good smoked flavor, it had almost none. On top of that, it was overcooked and dry. Parts of the ribs were also over cooked and dry too. It tasted like the meats were cooked in an oven and finished on on a grill. The homemade bbq sauce was made from ketchup, worcestershire sauce and spices added, but the ketchup taste was the predominate flavor. . I'm sorry, but how this place got awarded for it's bbq is beyond me, especially in Texas! How can you call yourself "Pit Master" and have so little smoke flavor in the food? I wont be eating there again and the reason I'm giving it a 2 is because of the waitress. I'm in a wheelchair and she was very courteous and helpful. read more

We come here all the time and it's usually ok. Always empty but decent service. But today a single mom was in there eating with her daughter who looked to be about 2-3 years old. The little girl didn't like her food and she didn't eat a thing. When her mom tried to send it back and get it replaced with something else, the white manager/cook guy told her he had to charge her double, for the food she had ordered that her kid didn't eat and for the food to replace what she said was cold food. The cook or manager or whatever the guy is called the cops on her. Ridiculous. I know she was telling the truth too bc my fries came out cold. I just know better than to complain. The food here isn't good, it's pretty sub-par. We always came because of the service and the fact that it's never busy. But after what I saw today, this place won't get our business anymore. Let me say this, I have eaten here a few times and even though it wasn't the most favorable BBQ spot, it was decent and enjoyed for the most part. Well until today. I walked in finishing a conversation on my phone, and yes I do feel like being on the phone is rude so that's why I ended the conversation within seconds. Now, just because someone is doing something you may think is rude, you still as a place of business should offer A1 customer service. First no one spoke, well they spoke to the nice older couple I opened the door for. Second I stood at he counter for I know at at least a few minutes while three different waitresses passed me by several times and still not spoken too. Finally I looked at the young lady behind me and asked for if anyone was working up front and she said "Sorry, we can't help you if you are on your phone." I should have walked out, because one, you still should speak to your guest. Secondly if that's a rule, post it and don't say it to a paying customer. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, not sure. And I have never posted anything here or any other site in reference to bad service. But you know what they say, "You will always get the bad reviews, before the good." So make sure as a business or employees of a business to always give A1 customer service. read more

On Monday, I stopped by Pit Master BBQ for lunch and I will NEVER go back after the way I was treated. When, I arrived I asked if I could order 1/2 lb. of meat but using two meats instead of 1. The waiter asked the manager and came back and said no we can't do that. I wasn't that hungry so, I ordered an appetizer instead and asked to speak with the manager. I informed them of my disappointment and that their competitors like Rudy's BBQ allow you to mix and match meats by the 1/2 lb. The manager said that the owner has been in business for along time and doesn't want to do business like that. They would rather you spend $6.95 per 1/2 lb. and buy more. Also, I used to order the family packs for $100+ and because of this nickel and dime BS, I will never go back. Also, while I was paying the cashier was very sarcastically rude with me and said "HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!" very loudly. I ignored her and proceeded to walk out and then one of the co-workers said "OR NOT, WE DON'T REALLY CARE". Shocking, but honestly they don't understand that the customers actually pay their salaries. Goring forward, I am going to make sure that everyone I know avoids this place from now on. read more
