Well deserved hype! We secured a reservation on a Friday during peak dinner hour and were not disappointed. The pizza crust was thin and crunchy but held up amazingly, not crumbly. Also got a house salad to help balance the meal. Curious to see how well their pizza travels for takeout orders as we saw a lot of people stopping by to pick up. The restaurant is small and intimate. I walked in at 7 pm on a Wednesday, and I was able to get a seat at the bar! It's a great place for a date. Very dimly lit but not that loud. I just got the Chicago Thin Crust Pizza with Italian beef. It's the thinnest crust I've ever had... which made it delightfully cheese and topping forward. I really enjoyed alternating (sometimes omitting) the amount of Parmesan and red pepper flakes I put on each portion. There are also two unisex bathrooms; both very clean! Walked in at 8 PM on Thursday night and was able to get a seat at the bar right away. It's BYOB until probably the end of the month, so bring some wine! The Caesar salad was pretty good--we enjoyed the full-sized anchovies. The focaccia was SO soft and fluffy. It's thicker than what I'm used to, but I still really liked it. We ordered the sausage, pepper, and mushroom pizza, which had a very thin, tavern-style, almost cracker-like crust. The sausage itself was SO delicious, and the mushrooms were chunky and fresh. I really enjoyed the pizza, but I think I prefer Vito & Nick's--their sauce is a bit sweeter, while this one had a more zesty flavor. Ordered two pizzas for takeout on a Wednesday night: pepperoni garlic, and a sausage mushroom. They came out hot and fresh. I really liked how finely the cheese was grated and the even distribution of all toppings across the entire pie. No soggy middle pieces with too much cheese! However, both pizzas were extremely salty for my palate. I also wished there was some sweetness to their sauce. Overall not for me as I wouldn't be able to get over the saltiness. New tavern-style pizza spot in West Town opened by the same owners of Kim's Uncle Pizza in Westmont. The pizza was delectable-- the bread/crust was crispy and crunchy and the toppings were sharp and fresh. We especially loved the sausage and mushroom toppings... so delicious. We also ordered the caesar salad (very good) and the focaccia (warm and fresh; the spread could've been a bit more creative, as it came with just butter). It's also BYOB (for now). I ordered takeout back in June so perhaps they've installed more soundproofing since, but the lack of a dedicated pick up space paired with the overlapping conversations bouncing off the walls has kept me from returning. So this place is tavern style. I think the crust is kind of different. It's more thin and flaky instead of cracker crispy. Pretty unique. Even moreso, I like the sauce. It's for some oomph. We started with the caponata (eggplant dip + focaccia bread) and had the Chicago thin crust pizza and a giardiniera thin crust pizza. We thought the eggplant dip was fine and enjoyed the bread alone. This spot might very well be the champion of the gourmet tavern style pizza! Why 4 stars you ask? Well the restaurant stays busy from the moment it opens, all the way through closing time. Because of the small space inside, this means you're gonna be crammed and slammed against other people from the moment you step foot inside. If you don't like congestion and having to hear other people's loud conversations, dining in is not an option; especially at the bar. The ambiance knocks off a star due to the sardines-in-a-can experience. Even when I'm picking up the order to go, I have to squeeze and maneuver myself not to run into someone's table. Guess that's part of the charm. You can order on the website, and the pizza will be ready at the scheduled time. HEADS UP: if you order a pizza for pick up, and the only available pick up time is 9p, that pizza will not be ready until 9p on the head, so don't expect to show up earlier and hope to get it. Otherwise, this pizza is something I could eat every single day. Luckily, it's priced so high that on principle, you have to treat it like a special occasion ($30-$45 average price for a pie). If you're trying to dine in, there's no debate at all; you need a reservation. Good luck on all that lol. Great and amazing. Went here on a business trip to Chicago. Pizza was great. Was it life altering and mind blowing? No! But was it the best Tavern style I've had so far? Yes! In many places, you may have to ask for "well done" pizza. That would get you slightly better char on the crust. I say better because well, that's a matter of personal preference. Here, they default it to what other places would say is "well done". They suggest no more than 3 toppings per pizza and if you don't know why, I would argue, you don't really have a leg to stand on to criticize pizza. We got 4 pizzas. We ordered 3 but they made a mistake and combined two of our pizza orders onto one and it was my favorite. Pepperoni, sausage and mushroom. The Sausage was great. The fennel forward flavor was what hit it for me and set them apart. The sauce was sweet but didn't overpower the toppings, and the overall cheese, sauce, toppings ratio was on point. The crust IS like eating a cracker. That's what tavern is like. If you don't like it, don't come here. Despite them messing up our pizza, the service was also awesome. The server we had was passionate about pizza (also the owner I believe). He explained all the things he suggested and their collab pizza they had on the focaccia. It was all great and amazing. We went right after work so it was thankfully empty (I lied we went when they opened at 4) and it's a clean quiet look perfect for bringing a couple kids in a family or a date. The amount of times I've seen Pizz'Amici mentioned as the hardest reservation as of date in Chicago made me really crave tavern pizza (even though I've never even had tavern pizza). My favorite style pizza is Detroit and New York so I didn't really know how I would feel about Tavern pizza but always open to trying new things! I was able to snag a reservation randomly on a Sunday at 8 PM. It is a rather small space so I understand that reservations can be difficult to come by given it's a highly anticipated experience. Currently, it's BYOB so that's kinda nice you can bring whatever your heart desires! We ended up ordering the sausage and potatoes for our appetizer and a tavern pizza with pepperoni and hot honey. The sausage and potatoes tasted like how it sounds. It was just roasted potatoes with sausage and peppers and onions. There was nothing bad about the dish but also nothing too unique about it. As for the pizza, we both ended up not really enjoying it because it reminded us of a healthy alternative to pizza. Even though I love thin crust, this was just way too thin like a cracker or chip. Also, pepperoni and hot honey is usually a classic and always hit, but this time, it didn't and got a bit too one dimensional for us. I couldn't help but to compare the pizza to other places in the city. It is amazing how the pizza can be made so thin but I don't think it's my cup of tea. COZY LITTLE SPOT I am so impressed with how simply they transformed this space. I love the vibes with the Christmas lights up. Folks weren't lying that the food is good!! I am thrilled to find out that it's the same people who previously owned Pizza Fried Chicken Ice Cream. We had the House Salad, Meatballs, and a Pizza with green peppers onion and pepperoni. So thin and crispy! This is such a quintessential Chicago pizza. I loved the meatballs, very easily could tell this is someone's Italian Nonna's recipe. Can't go wrong. House salad was excellent-- the Ceasar is probably more popular but I am always craving a bright green salad with lemon and parm and I had to have it. BYOB for now but the liquor license is coming soon and I heard some really exciting things about the cocktail program to come! Luckily you can stop by Grand Cru to get some nice bottles or if you're in a rush the liquor store is very close as well and they have actually a lovely selection of regular wines. Service is running super well for such a recently open restaurant! Bill is the best server in the game right now and I will be standing in line when they open once those cocktails are available! All I can say is WOW! I tried Pizz'amici for my first time last night and was absolutely blown away. To start, I love the vibe of the restaurant. There aren't many tables but it is cozy in the best way and perfect for a date night. I ordered a lemonade to drink which I really enjoyed given it was a canned Italian lemonade (similar if not the exact same to what I've had over in Italy). To eat, our party ordered two pepperoni pizzas (one with hot honey and one without) and also a green pepper and onion pizza with hot honey for myself. The pizza had the most perfect crispy crust and it was absolutely perfect all around - I would even go as far to say it is some of my favorite pizza in Chicago now. Three pizzas was enough for the four of us and also got the pleasure of taking a few slices home (and am already looking forward to enjoying it for lunch). The toppings were fresh, delicious, and obviously higher quality than other local pizza spots. The crisp on this pizza is exactly what I look for in a tavern style pizza. The biggest pizza they offer is pretty small for Chicago's standard, and is a little on the expensive side for the size. My only complaint is that the pizzas could have had more cheese on them.
