Very disappointed. I stopped in at 5:40 pm to reserve a table outside for one person for 7 pm. I went back at 7 and was told by the host that there was an issue and there was no longer a table for me. It would be at least a 30 minute wait. The hosts went in got the manager who was absolutely rude to me and accused me of not making a reservation in person. He claimed it wasn't in the system. He told me I could sit at the bar. We put our name in for a table and sat at the bar while we waited. The bartender was really nice and a great server! Our table waitress was also so friendly and did really well, especially for a Saturday supper rush. One of the best places for Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. I favor the sausage, myself, but was happy to see their menu expanded to included some variations. And, I should point out, that the price for the pizzas were actually comparable to some of the best thinner sliced pizzas I've been eating in Los Angeles. Kind of funny how that works out. The 'Numero Uno' speciality pizza has not just the sausage, but also pepperoni, mushrooms and (I think) onions. It's great. Plenty of cheese, and the crust has the familiar chewy but easy to chomp pizza crust. If anything, after having not been in here seven years, the crust seemed less thick -- but who knows - maybe it was due to having a Small, instead of a Medium. But a Small is four good slices. We got two smalls, the Numero Uno as well as a Four Cheese and Pesto. More than enough for three hungry people -- with plenty of leftovers. The Four Cheese and Pesto, I might add, was enjoyed by those who ordered it. Me, well, it was too rich for my taste. We also got a Family Style Caesar salad, which was very good - though I did think that price was a bit much. Still, the ingredients were good, the salad fed three of us just fine - so, it's hard to complain. Draft beer is readily available and goes down good and cold. Service was great. Yes, pizzas take a long time, so ORDER THAT PIZZA as soon as you sit down. Work out the apps etc after that. Great atmosphere with lots of classic Chicago icons represented on the walls. We needed to compare deep dish pizzas so we came to Pizza Due, closer to our hotel than UNO's, but I know they have the same menu items. We ordered a spinach salad, a Caesar salad, a large Uno deep dish pizza, and a veggie deep dish pizza. Deep dish pizzas take at least 40 to 45 minutes so we enjoyed our salads. They also have other appetizers as well but we wanted to save our appetite for our pizzas. They also have a gluten-free pizzas. Pizzas arrived, hot, gooey, crusty and delicious. The numero Uno pizza has a combination of fresh sausage pepperoni, peppers, onions and mushrooms, delicious. veggie pizza was also delicious with peppers onions mushrooms, tomatoes out of sight. The service was friendly although the space is kind of small and constraint but that's OK. We came here for the food not the ambience. Great draft beer selection and some wines as well. The first minus was that their beer (draught) selection seemed to have been influenced by this craft beer nonsense. No domestic light beers were to be had. We ordered the shrimp & crab dip for an app and a sausage & pepperoni small for the entree. Both were beyond amazing. Yes, the place is small. The service was only borderline friendly, and our server was exceptionally slow. She also over-charged us via the Groupon, but I didn't figure that out until we were halfway back to the hotel. This review of mine has more to do about the lousy service. What a dissapointment. I'm a lifelong Chicagoan and have always had the real Uno's via carry out. I was in the Gold Coast for the night with my two teen daughters. They wanted deep dish, so I thought it'd be fun that we go to Due's because I had never dined in there. In case someone reading doesn't know Due's is the second location of Uno's which is down the block. Uno's popularity in the 1950's prompted the owner to open up a second location to address the demand of the pizza. We walked in around 6pm on a Monday (12/19 to be exact). The place was fairly empty being it was a Monday. After being seated we waited about 5 minutes until a waitress came along and gave us menus. We started to give our drink order and then she said she'll be right back. Another 10 minutes later she came, gave our drink order. Now this girl we had mumbled and was hard to understand what she was saying. We ordered two pizzas. A small half sausage and pepperoni and all mushrooms. I had to explain it to her three times. The second was a personal cheese for my younger daughter since she does not like the toppings her sister and I do. I know making deep dish takes about 45 minutes, so we chatted and waited. They bring out the pizza with the toppings. I then asked where the individual pizza is. She went in the back, 5 minutes later came out and said, "they forgot to make it". Okay, a little perturbed but whatever. We wait about 35 minutes (and yes, I'm timing this) and she comes out with the individual. Problem though.... It has sausage! I called her back and I was pissed, she went in the back and said, "it'll be 5 minutes". Well, that 5 minutes was more like 20. She brings it out and to me it looked like they dug the sausage out, refilled with cheese, sauce, and stuck in a broiler because there was burnt black cheese on the top which I have never seen on deep dishes including my own as I bake them from scratch myself. I know broiler burnt cheese when I see it. Not once did this girl apologize. Didn't possess the common sense to nor offer to remove the one from the bill. On our way out, after leaving a 4% tip the manager who originally greeted us wasn't at the front who if he asked how things where I would have complained but he wasn't there, nor was I going to chase him down. I will say there was another waitress, maybe in her 40's that was waiting the booth behind us. She was having wonder conversation with the people she was serving and seemed like a pro. The girl we had in her 20-30's didn't seem to have professional manners let alone common sense. If you do decide to go, there sit at the bar or look out for the other waitress. My eldest daughter is a food server at a restaurant. She was appalled by the service we received and she's 17. As far as our pizza with the toppings it was super good. We gave one piece to my cheese only daughter who picked off what she didn't like. Just so she's not sitting there watching us eat. When the re-manufactured cheese pizza came out it didn't see right. The sauce had tasted different than the first. We were so disappointed. With all the deep-dish places in a three-block radius we chose the wrong one to go to. read more

Host told me they put online orders in different oven and something could have happened. Told him I couldn't eat it. He put me on hold to talk to manager. Came back and asked me if I wanted to come back for another pizza. I reminded him of my distance. Told him I shouldn't have to pay for a burned pizza. Put me on hold another ten minutes. Due's basement is a "must see" Chi-town staple. Yes, the deep dish is EVERYTHING you want in a pie with its flaky crust, chunky sauce (on top), thick pepperoni, and sliced cheese. However, the apps, salad, and drinks are on point too. We STRONGLY recommend to go during the off hours (3-5PM) and sit in the left room by the bar for an authentic downtown "Chixperience" without having to wait for a table or feel like other pizza connoisseurs are on top of you. Stopped in for dinner. There was a 45 minute wait for two, on a busy Sunday evening. Not an issue. The host , which turned out to be a "manager" was friendly and welcoming. She advised we might want to get our order in while we waited for our table so that our wait for pizza wouldn't be another 45min wait. The thin crust spinach, mushroom & garlic pizza was delivered shortly after being seated and it was tasty. The service was awful beyond that! The server Estelle G must've had a a load of tables. We didn't require much, a bottle a hot sauce, some napkins and ice water and we had to ask for each a few times. The check however arrived with ease. I noticed the charge card delivered back to the table was not ours. Another customers credit card was charged my $30.16 total while their $60 tab had apparently been charged to our credit card. The server only noticed that she delivered the incorrect charge cards to each table, and quickly snatched them up to swap. As I prepared to sign, I see that the receipt name and last digit card numbers didn't match --hence the billing issue. I seek out the manager to whom I explain the issue. While the manager was very apologetic and proceeds to correct the mistake; she advises I'll be inconvenienced with a hold for both charges in my bank account for 24-48 hours. The server, Estellle G, proceeds by totally ignoring our table. No apology forthcoming. At best, management could have offered something for the inconvenience-- a fountain drink, a dessert, $5 off the bill -- ANYTHING for their screw up. I understand mistakes happen. However, not only were they holding up my funds the server began ignoring and giving attitude as if it was our error! The icing on the cake is today...I checked my bank account to find Pizza Due cleared the payment for $10 over the bill!! $40.16 Gave themself a nice healthy tip! I purposely did not tip out of irritation over the situation (and usually I tip, very generously.) I, however, wrote a tip on the receipt as to how not make your customers uncomfortable after YOU make an error! This really used to be one of my favorite places to come when I visited Chicago, but no longer. This is not the same pizza that made them famous. The sausage and the sauce are still solid, but the crust, which used to be super decadent, is now bland. And burnt! Not carmelized like Peqouds, but straight up bitter charcoal. Within a few minutes, Sergio had delivered the salad. I will say, it was a good size for an individual portion. The dressing was excellent. First time in Chicago, and stumbled upon this magnificent restaurant. Me and my buddies started with the cheesy garlic bread and buffalo/bbq wings, and they were fantastic. We also tried some of the local IPA's, Maplewood Son of Juice, and they were also fantastic. Us four split a Windy City Works thin crust followed by pepperoni deep dish which was a lot of food for just us, but it was worth it. We also tried the Chocolate Cake they offer and it was massive but there's always room for dessert. Our server was super helpful and guided us through the history of the restaurant and what we should try. Phenomenal service and suggestions. The restaurant is super cozy right as you walk in, and you can tell by the structure the historic and legendary feel of the place. 10/10 suggest this to anyone visiting. read more

My cousin was visiting from the East Coast last week and we spent a day in the city. She wanted to try deep dish pizza and I've always love Due's, so we decided to there. I called for a reservation and it was super easy. Once, we realized we'd be done with all our sightseeing earlier than expected, I called to change the reservation to an hour earlier and it was not an issue. When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly guy, named Aaron (I think?). He was bearded, joyful, a little older, and really personable. We were seated on the outdoor patio, which we asked for, and it was a warm, balmy night, so we ordered a pitcher of the white sangria. It was delicious and refreshing! We did order Chicago style garlic bread, with giardinera on top. If you can't tolerate spicy food, which we can't, beware cause it had lots of jalapeños on it. I've never had giardinera that spicy. For our main meal, we ordered a small sausage deep dish pizza. We both had one huge slice each and loved it!!! I hadn't had it in ages, as I've just moved back to Chicago, from L.A.
