These pancakes are more fluffier and eggier (I think that's a legit word, LOL), and super rich! If you don't like eggs, don't visit because there is a lot of eggy flavor. I've tried the two dominant flavors, Matcha and Strawberry, and I can't tell which one I like better. The light cream topping is better than any butter or maple syrup I've ever had. There is usually one more flavor that they change from time to time as well which I've heard is great. Going on the weekday avoids the wait. The abnormal hours of operation don't make it easy to visit but if you do you'll definitely enjoy. Book the table on Yelp!

I arrived with my boys and my father in law, a man celebrating another year of survival in a universe that has not yet figured out how to improve pancakes. The space is small, and the famous Kiseki pancakes take their time, about twenty to thirty minutes, as if they are being persuaded into existence rather than cooked. These Kiseki pancakes are not pancakes in the American sense. They are soufflé style creations, tall and trembling, as if gravity is only a suggestion. They arrive airy and delicate, with a gentle jiggle that suggests optimism. We ordered accordingly. I had the lemon ricotta, which tasted like sunlight had been filtered through dairy. My oldest chose matcha, green, purple and quietly sophisticated and complex. My youngest went with the original maple, a classic executed so well it made the classics feel new again. All were excellent, the sort of food that makes conversation pause because mouths are busy being grateful. My father in law ordered what I personally considered a cautious breakfast. Regular pancakes with eggs and bacon. A meal that could have been assembled in any roadside diner between here and forever. Yet even this was handled with care. The eggs were perfect, the bacon honest, the pancakes dignified. No irony, no shortcuts. Yes, the prices are a little steep. But this is not a place for routine nourishment. This is a place for occasions, for birthdays, for reminding yourself that breakfast can aspire to something like art. Five stars, because sometimes the world surprises you by getting something exactly right.

If you're going to the location in downtown Princeton, it is a small smaller space so just be prepared that I can get a little noisy. The food and service was fantastic. Always a place you can count on.

I ordered the kale juice which was kale, apple, lemon & was yummy. I ordered the summer special lobster avocado toast with 2 eggs over easy. The servers & all staff were very busy but pleasant. My meal was good, no complaints & they did have 2 nice chunks of real lobster meat on the thick whole grain toast. The only problem came when I went to use my coupon, they asked for my phone number which I gave them. And then they told me I was not in the system. Then they asked me if I could login on the app in which I told them I didn't know if I had the app because I don't have this restaurant locally and I only eat here maybe once a year but clearly the coupon had come to me in my email, and was due to expire on July 31 and this was July 25. Even though it was only five dollars it was the principle of I would've eaten somewhere else if I could not use this coupon. So although they were busy, I could tell that they were kind of annoyed that they had to go in the back and asked the manager and then there was some big production of having to enter my email and phone number into the app. This all seemed rather ridiculous considering most places if you have a coupon and it doesn't work and it's legitimate they can just take five dollars off your bill at the register not sure why that was not possible? Anyway, in the meantime of them going to the back, I managed to find the app get into it. Enter my phone number and email reset a password and then it showed that my coupon was in the app. Long story short I did get the five dollars off of the meal and then handed a five dollar bill to my server as her tip. This restaurant is only open for breakfast and lunch and I believe it closes at 3 PM. It does get very busy weekend mornings. It's similar to a First Watch cafe if you are familiar with those.

We've all heard of cults. Heaven's Gate, The Ant Hill Kids, Tesla owners, and Jonestown, to name a few. But one cult has been lurking, growing, and thriving in its nefarious, brooding light openly in the suburbs of the uppity areas of Central New Jersey. I'm not referring to the Freemasons, or the never-ending corridors of elk's lodges, but I am speaking of the legions of fans of a local chain of pancake-eateries, PJ's Pancake House (hereon out referred to as PJ's). Like the Stasi of East Germany, if you dare speak ill of this fabled establishment, you will be swiftly told that your opinion is wrong and swarms of PJ's enthusiasts will vanquish you to the shadow realm, never to be heard from again. I've had my fair share of pancakes in my thirty five years of existence, and I've dabbled in a few cults, so I deduced that now would be the best time to combine my two favorite hobbies. The stage was set. Girlfriend. Period. Pancakes. I was awoken to the sound of my lover demanding pancakes; a morning treat that she so deeply loves while her form pays for the sins of Eve. I wiped clean my eyes and consented, knowing full well not to unleash the wrath of the gentler sex. She asked if we could take the trip to PJ's knowing that I have yet to experience all that it has to offer. I do not enjoy crowds, so Sunday brunch at a popular establishment at noon o clock disgusted me, and as I told my beau this, I quickly succumbed to her wishes when I noticed her nostrils flaring and her talons taking aim at my face. We quickly hoped in my car and departed; next stop, pancake bliss....or so I thought. As we drove through the country fields, my mind began to wander. My mouth was ready to taste the sweet, sweet nectar of maple syrup and panned cakes, and my mind was ready to digest the sweet, sweet message of the cult. I fantasized of sitting in a plush, booth seat, devouring my pancakes as scores of cultmembers sat beside me, chanting in musical, rhythmic beauty, "one of us...one of us...:" The GPS displayed that we were two minutes away, my mind began to race. "What if I'm not ready for this? What if this changes my life for the better? For the worse?" One minute, the GPS showed. "Is it too late to turn around? Would my love be okay with Teddy's in Cranbury instead? Oh, Lord, please help me, please, I beg of you." "We're here" stated my darling, in a deep, guttural tone that could only mean her mission was underway. We parked in one of the few empty spots and I glanced at the restaurant. The seating area outside was completely full. Plate upon plate of gluttonous sin littered each table as people munched and downed their breakfasts. As we walked towards the door, more large groups sat outside, clearly waiting for tables to become available. "New initiates" I chuckled to myself. We walked inside. The host was nowhere to be found. Other groups were crowded around the host stand, vying for position, ready to show PJ himself that they were the most worthy, the most ready to show their devotion, of all the groups. When the host appeared, it became apparent that any enthusiasm was left in the back. He asked how many people in my party and then said "thirty minutes" and walked away. How would he even know my name? Or how would I know when my table's ready? There were no vibrating/flashing coaster looking things that other restaurants use. It dawned on me as we sat outside, a smile growing across my face, as I realized that this was the first test. After five minutes the host came outside, looked around, and asked my dearly loved if we wanted to sit. He informed us that the bar had two open seats and we could take them if we wanted to forgo a table. We eagerly accepted and walked inside, smiling as other parties of two sat outside, bewildered by PJs arrogance. "Perhaps they can sense that I am the most worthy" I thought to myself. We were led inside by the host who left us at the bar. We sat upon the two empty stools and I quickly noticed how small they were. I am not a large man, and though I have dabbled in the art of squatestry at the gym, I couldn't help but feel extremely uncomfortable with how small the seating area of the stool was. No matter which angle I took, I knew that the stool stood in between myself and the masterful PJ. I went to look at my menu, but in my stoolemma failed to notice that the host did not provide us with menus. "How do they expect us to order?" I whispered to my girl, nervous that big brother would hear me. I looked over at her and, with a knife and fork in each hand, heard her growl "PANCAKES" as she banged her silverware on the counter. I was then hit by menus as a braindead zombie waiter threw his stack of menus into the pile, or rather at me. Ran out of characters for the review. Food was just okay and the service was god-awful. I give it a D- and two Guy Fieri thumbs down. Did not live up to the hype and was overpriced. read more

Stopped here for last-minute Saturday Breakfast. The majority of the Food here was very bland and lacked flavor or any seasoning at all. The service also was overwhelming as 3 servers were covering a full restaurant. We went through the front host for many questions because our server was often too busy to come back to us. A combination of the food, the service, and the price of everything total(about $60 before tip) were factored into this rating. Overall I wouldn't recommend this place for those reasons. The food left a lot to be desired. We paid $60 for breakfast for 2 people for a forgettable experience/meal that neither of us enjoyed. I ordered the TwoFer breakfast and added potatoes. The Pancakes tasted like your standard Pancakes so nothing more there. The eggs, bacon, and potatoes were bland beyond a small bit of green pepper chopped in the potato mash. Everything needed salt and some other spice. The coffee was watery and not strong at all. Tasted overly diluted and usually, I can get buy with the most basic of coffees but this was very bad coffee. Not even in taste but it was legitimately weak/watered down. My partner ordered a burger with fries and her meal was the same. The burger tasted like straight beef(no spice or seasoning) and the fries were not seasoned at all with a taste of thawed fries thrown straight into a deep Fryer and plated. Again neither had any seasoning or spices. The ambiance of the place had a nice family breakfast vibe, but the food and service didn't match. I wish it were different. I never want to go to a restaurant and be hungry/searching for alternative food options while leaving. read more

Shame on PJ's Pancake House. I ordered the "Indian Ramen," which was supposed to include Amul cheese. When the dish arrived, there was no cheese in sight. I asked the server about it, she said it might be under the ramen, it wasn't! We asked for more and she returned with sev, for reference, that's a crispy chickpea noodle topping, not cheese. When we questioned her again, she said the cook confirmed that this was "Amul cheese." To serve a table of Indian customers, clearly dressed in traditional Indian attire and insist that thin sev is Amul cheese is not just wrong, it's downright disrespectful. I appreciate the attempt to incorporate global flavors, but if you're going to include dishes from other cultures on your menu, do your research and represent them accurately. After reading some very mediocre reviews about the service, I was dubious of trying it, but I actually thought it was way above average. Both the host and waitress were VERY polite and attentive. Food was inexpensive and large portions. For just two, we got seated in a booth that could easily fit eight, and that was at about 12:30 on a Saturday! There was a wait of about 10 minutes (since we turned down sitting at the bar and sitting outside), and the wait time was just about what was quoted to us (if not slightly shorter). It probably took about 15 mins for the food to come, but in comparison to other places around here, it felt about average in terms of wait time. Drinks were refilled promptly and the food was great! Went to Pj's for the first time with my daughter on May 20, 2018. Our server was Kerry R. I think asking her for a cup of ice with lemons and a straw was too much for her. She said she is so busy! She then ignored us multiple times as she addressed the table right next to us. Her attitude and demeanor does not belong in the restaurant business. She then passed us off to another server. I guess she doesn't need the tip that I generously gave the gentleman server. Let me also state that both my daughter and I are also servers and we have a lot of experience. As for the food, it was a good place but the service by Kerry R. pretty much ruined it. Thanks! read more

I really wanted to love this place! EWING LOCATION RUDE service, below average atmosphere, and OK food. This is an over-hyped restaurant - the food was bland and normal, menu is pricey and not worth it. I ordered the Two-Fer. It came with 2 of everything except the sausage which was the one tasty bite. Pancakes were DRY and CHEWY, bacon was GREASY, but the (1) small sausage link was good. The potato mash was cold with decent flavor. I stopped by for a morning breakfast, but unfortunately, it wasn't the best experience. The service was on the slower side, and my food wasn't as hot as I would've liked, something just felt a bit off overall. That said, the place is clean, and the service was decent. Being located in a shopping center, parking is easy and convenient. They also offer outdoor seating, which is a nice option. Me and my friend went there for lunch and we were seated on the patio. 15 minutes into our meal it started raining and the manager gave us a table inside right away. The food also was not that good, so for the price, had I known, I would have gone to one of the local restaurants and brought food back, there's a Ruth's Chris within walking distance. Breakfast was interesting, the servers was wonderful, however the eggs benedict was odd. The eggs were overcooked and instead of what I normally see as a thin slice of Canadian Bacon, it was 2 huge slabs of ham. Would definitely recommend eating somewhere else as Princeton has lots of great restaurants.

I wandered into Family Cafe this morning after having blood work done, which is not an activity…read morethat inspires joy or optimism. It was bitter cold outside, and the dining room inside was calm with only a few tables occupied as if everyone had agreed to be gentle with the day or perhaps remain in hibernation. I was led to a booth with a perfect view of the television already playing reruns of The Price is Right. My menu appeared quickly, followed by hot coffee that did its job without complaint. I warmed enough to begin to feel human again. After a few minutes the waitress came over and sat down on the bench opposite me to take my order. It struck me as both efficient and intimate in the best possible way. I ordered two eggs over easy with corned beef hash hash browns and an English muffin. She nodded as if this was sensible, and disappeared back into the kitchen. Then the place started to fill up. Not hectic, but certainly alive. People started filing in and it became immediately clear that I was surrounded by regulars. The staff knew everyone by name, and the customers knew theirs. People came out from the kitchen just to say hello. Stories were exchanged about recent trips, grandchildren and illnesses. This cafe was not just serving breakfast, it was serving continuity. This is a social institution disguised as a place that sells eggs. Despite being the only obvious outsider I was treated with the same warmth and attention as everyone else. No tests were administered, no paperwork required. The food arrived and it was good. It wasn't revolutionary, and that's exactly the point. Eggs and hash aren't supposed to surprise you. They're supposed to show up on time and do their duty, and they did so admirably. It was honest food, and it was affordable. The service was top-notch. Places like this are a dying breed. I'm very glad I wandered into this one. Five easy stars.
