Plateia is a welcome addition to this part of the UCLA campus. I came for lunch with two other diners and enjoyed my grilled cheese sandwich with the Greek salad as my chosen side. I loved the feel of the place -- we sat outside on a nice day. The service was fine, and the prices were not outrageous. Several people told me that UCLA faculty were initially opposed to the construction of this conference center when it was slated to replace the faculty club. Keeping the faculty club and constructing the conference center on another site was a compromise. Now that the center is in existence, the presence of on-campus hotel rooms has proved to be a big "plus" and the new restaurant has garnered positive reviews. read more

The food here is sooo good. The restaurant itself is nice but also very comfortable. Since it was a warm evening we elected to sit out on the patio and the service was wonderful. Our waiter ever brought us samples if the soup since we were kind of on the fence about it so that was nice! My mother and I ended up splitting the Mediterranean pizza and the chicken pesto pasta. Both were delicious! Walking distance from the hospital we are staying at so I'm sure we will be back. read more

The restaurant is part of the UCLA Luskin conference center. They are very busy during lunch and especially dinner. I went for the lunch before my conference. The charred octopus tasted really fresh and good! What impressed me most is the dessert. The pistachio custard cake is not too sweet but it is the right amount of sweetness for a lunch with a hint of nutty and citric flavor! Wonderful! During spring, I had lunch here with my boss and coworkers. Our food took quite some time to come out even though there weren't that many people in the restaurant. Luckily enough, none of us had problems with our meal. We decided to order dessert and this is where we run into more issues. They bring us the wrong dessert but decide to keep it anyway and ask again for the one we ordered. The next dessert comes out and it is still not the one we ordered. We give up and just decide to eat it anyway. With that being said I really hope our server was just having a bad day or something. Best food you can get on campus, and probably around Westwood! The burger's the best! I've tried most of the salads on the menu and they're really good too! Just because they say they have something on the menu doesn't mean they do. It's even worse with roomservice. Room service may have a hamburger or other selection for dinner and a few salads but no vegetables or desserts. If you are UCLA patient and are trying to get through surgery etc. The Luskin may have the location, but they certainly don't have food. Additionally, they have wine on the menu that they no longer have for sale. They offer desserts but not for room service. I don't know what breakfast is like yet but I think we'd be better off going to McDonald's. Buyer beware in this place. They won't bring up a table so that there's someplace stable for two people to eat. They will sell you a bottle of water but will not give you glasses. The people taking the order on the phone were embarrassed by how many things we tried to order that were just not available. The patio has beautiful olive trees and fountains complementing the exquisite dishes. For lunch my colleague and I started with octopus- truly a work of art in presentation and sensational for the taste buds. **Yelp 100 Challenge 2017 3/100** As a former Bruin, I am SO SO happy to have had Plateia open up in the beautiful new Luskin Conference center! Came here last Thursday before the UCLA vs. Cal basketball game (go Bruins FTW) and it was PACKED. There's a bar area, complete with some open seating tables that are halfway into the lobby of the Luskin Center, and a more "restaurant proper" area. Upon walking in at 5 (game was at 6), the bar/open seating was completely full, but there were open tables everywhere. Put our name in to be told that there would be a wait, and that they couldn't tell us how long. Okay, I get that you have reservations, and I get that you don't want to slam your wait staff by seating tables all at once, but really? The restaurant was maybe 1/4 full. Let them know that we were going to the game, and just needed to know ballpark-ish time so we could go somewhere else if necessary, and still couldn't give us a time. Okay... Ended up snagging seats at the bar and having a fab time. It was a zoo because of the game, but all the staff was working really hard to make sure everyone was happy. They have quite a few game day specials, e.g. $3 Miller Lite. However, I can't stand miller lite, so my friend and I opted to split a bottle of House Red, which on game day is $18. It ended up being an Unruly Rampant Zin, which was delicious!! Great deal. Their wine glasses are stemless and nice and big. I was ravenous and ordered the burger at the recommendation of my friend, and it was AMAZING. So delicious. The ketchup was very fancy! It is $15 for the burger, but definitely a high-quality patty and solid meal. MmMmMmMm. A gentleman from the host stand came over about 15 minutes after we sat at the bar and let us know a table was free, which i very much appreciated even though we declined (at that point, we had already had 2 glasses of wine and burger was on its way). Since it's a state-run restaurant, it is gratuity-free. I was super annoyed later looking at my check because I realized during HH (4-6 pm) you're supposed to get $3 off food items; they didn't do it and I didn't check until later. However, overall experience was good. They definitely have some things to iron out, but since I come to basketball games a lot, I will likely be back, and will just make sure I make a reservation and look over the check at the end. read more

Burger feedback from a self proclaimed expert. Could've been juicier. I ordered medium rare and ended up with well done. That's disappointing. But the croissant like bun, the aioli, the gooey melty cheese with some crisp (obviously fresh) arugula... well that compensated for sure. The fries had seasoning to make them tasty, but without the seasoning weren't too special. Ask for more aioli on the side. Still worth getting, but they won't blow your mind. All fries are good fries, but not many fries are GREAT fries. The Baba Ganoush was lovely. Perfect portion, light and lemony. I was pleased, and I know you will be too if you order it as an appetizer. The happy hour menu was fantastic, expansive and very affordable. read more

I've been here on several occasions now, for breakfast lunch and dinner and can say that overall its decent but not great. I want it to be great because it has so much potential and is conveniently located near my work. Would love to be able to go for a quick lunch with a colleague, but sadly end up avoiding this place because I never know how long our meal will take. The decor is modern and high-end, with a warm feel to it, and the ambience definitely lends itself to the university-business lunch crowd. The food is delicious but the biggest thing that is lacking is the service. It is so hit or miss. Its not that the waiters aren't friendly and nice, they are. Its more food timing, and also accessibility to the waiters. Sometimes service is good and timely, sometimes I have to walk over to ask our waiter to bring the check (this is rare but did happen once). Sometimes the food comes out in an acceptable time-frame, and sometimes it takes so long that we are on the verge of leaving. Overall the food is pretty good - dare I say delicious, I just wish they had a bit more selection, and that certain dishes were larger and more filling. Standouts on the menu are (I mostly go for lunch so haven't tried much if any of the dinner menu) the: Greek village salad - so fresh and delicious with cucumbers, tomatoes and Feta in a simple but tasty lemon juice and olive oil dressing. The sauce can be pretty lemony (which I love) Tuna Nicoise - is delicious but so tiny. If you are hungry then don't get this - but you want a light snack-like lunch, go for it Barrel Burger - the caramelized onions, the cheese and the aioli make for many flavorful mouthfuls Chicken BLT - the combination of flavors is really good Rustic Grilled Cheese - how can melted cheese on bread ever not be delicious? I've had the dessert board before which is good for two, or for 3-4 if you're each willing to have a teeny tiny bite. I love the mango mousse. Oh and to start the meal, the bread is delicious too. Overall, great food, good ambience, but if anyone over at the restaurant is reading this, please make the service/food timing consistently faster! I had an overnight stay at the Luskin conference Center (in the days of Covid), and during my 20 hours stay I visited the restaurant 3 times. And I should say, I seldom partake of hotel eateries. I came in first for a cocktail (LA margarita, yum) and some of their perfect French fries. It came with a ramekin of ketchup, so I asked if they had any kind of aioli. They offered me some basil aioli, which was, OH MY GOD, life changing. Bright green and super basil-y, so good. They packed me up a Greek salad to go so I could have a snack in my room later. I asked for a little bread to go with it and they gave me 2! Slices of the most delicious grilled bread. Later that evening, my UCLA student was hungry, so I took him back to my same lovely outdoor patio table amidst olive trees and fairy lights. He was REALLY hungry and had a chicken avocado club sandwich and added a fried egg to it. And of course, we asked for the basil aioli. He then had the chicken Paillard, which was a gorgeous grilled chicken breast with charred broccolini and a nice little arugula salad with fried capers on top. My third trip was this morning for coffee and a Greek yogurt topped with fresh berries and chopped pistachio. A little honey and yum! Ok, so as fantastic as the food was, the service is spectacular. Everyone was so nice and friendly (even behind face masks and face shields (thanks, Covid19). Really stellar service, and to my great surprise and dismay, it is a gratuity free restaurant. I recently tried this place. For ambience it was great on the patio. The pizza and the swordfish I tried was really good. Wait staff we had was still learning menu but super nice. Just be patient -- if you are in a hurry this might not be your place. There is a no tipping policy here. Parking is tricky if you haven't been their before. Plateia serves as the house restaurant for in the Luskin Conference Center on the UCLA Campus. I recently spent several nights in the hotel located in the Luskin Center and had breakfast and dinner several times at Plateia. In general I found the food and service very good particularly for a restaurant which I expect serves primarily visitors to the Luskin Center who may not have that many other options. The menu is mildly Mediterranean and the staff seemed to be genuinely interested in my dining experience. There is a no tipping policy which I liked. We had one business dinner with a large group and they did a very good job of getting everyone's order correct and serving everyone simultaneously. I would definitely return. read more

This open air patio is spacious, well spaced and planted. It lacks only good heat lamps and coverage. The menu changes seasonally and covers all bases. The burger is outstanding and the fish is usually very good as well. Salads are fresh, ample and even inventive. Sometimes too much escarole. I'm biased because we had vouchers to eat here for free for two different trips. But having eaten breakfast here over 5 times now I can confidently say I'd gladly pay for it. The breakfast potatoes are exceptional - not too salty, extremely crispy with herby bits. The smoked salmon sandwich with goat cheese and pickled vegetables is amazingly well balanced and delicious. Their chicken apple sausages are tender and flavorful. They tend to put a tad too much cheese in the omelets but are otherwise generous with toppings. Service can be a little slow but otherwise this is a solid breakfast spot if you're nearby. I tried room service from them once for a sandwich and salad. It came in a thin wooden box inside a cloth tote bag - seemed excessive but the sandwich was well done - crispy bread and generous sandwich filling. read more

Technically, it's on the perimeter of the campus but close enough and you don't have to venture into Westwood village or further for a great option.
