I almost don't want to write this review because the more people know about how good Bob is, the busier he'll be, and the longer I'll have to wait to get any future work done. We had a recent leak on our dishwasher, and Bob managed to squeeze us in between other jobs, a few days earlier than he'd promised. I'd called him based on the reviews here, and was prepared to wait, so it was a happy surprise, and I was grateful that he did the work earlier - something he really didn't have to do. There are lots of plumbers out here, and most are probably good, but not great. Reliable, knowledgeable and well, just average. This is not the case with Plumber Bob. He is exceptional... a five star rating is for "as good as it gets", and that is the case with Bob - as in Plumber Bob (see photo for the real deal.) Our situation started with a trickle of water coming up from the bathroom floor. From what I now know, it is hard to detect the origin of these leaks - especially when they are slow. And, most of the plumbers I called to address the problem did not want to have much to do with leak detection or diagnosis. Bob was the only plumber that took the time to ACCURATELY find the problem. These are called slab leaks, and they occur when a pipe breaks in or below the foundation of the house - in our case, a house built in '57. The pipes originally installed in the ground, running up though the foundation, were beginning to fail. Although Bob suggested less expensive options - like fixing only the line that was leaking, we opted for a re-pipe of the entire house. Why? When you have water leaking from your slab, it is only a matter of time before you have to replace your pipes, either one at a time, or all at once. It is like going to the dentist, pay now, or pay a lot later. So, the next step was to look at a few options for the re-pipe work. We asked for a few quotes from other referred plumbers, and to make a long story short, if you are considering this option, by all means do it, but in the end, you will do yourself a favor by having Bob do the work. You see - re-piping requires thought - you have to map out the course for the pipes - and Bob is a genius in that department. The more experience you bring to the table, the cleaner the re-pipe. So, you ask, what is involved? A re-pipe redirects your plumbing form the ground - these pipes are abandoned - to the attic, then, through the walls to the sinks etc., and anything else that the pipes feed. We have an older house with odd locations for showers, sinks, tubs, so you have to be creative in mapping the pipe, or you will end up with holes all over your house - and many may not be necessary. This is the art of the re-pipe, and Bob's work in our house was very creative - really pure genius. We have a lot fewer drywall patches to make, but even fewer stucco repairs - on the outside of the house - which are much more expensive to repair. All these small details save you money - on what was already a very competitive bid. I could go on and on... it's all good, but you get the point. Oh, and by the way, Bob is a really nice person, which goes a long way when you invite someone into your house. By the end of our re-pipe, Bob was like a member of our family. read more

Saturday afternoon my husband dug up the front lawn to see where the puddle of water was coming from. He found that the pipe had a leak. I began calling to see who could come out and repair it. We knew it would probably be costly because it was a weekend. Thank goodness Bob called me back, spoke with my husband and came out within the hour. High quality work, attention to detail, flexible if you want to do some of the grunt work yourself (ie demo and trenching). I'm really picky about quality and Bob did not let me down. He returns calls and texts promptly and gives notice if he will not meet original arrival time. Keep in mind this is a one-man show, so if one of his earlier jobs of the day takes more time than expected you need to be flexible. The great thing about a one-man show is there is no bait and switch between the quote and who actually does the work. I've fallen victim to that a few times in the past with other contractors and it usually does not end well. Take those one-star reviews with a grain of salt. Some people who hire contractors expect Nordstrom's customer service at Walmart prices. If that is what you want, then go pick up a random laborer from the Home Depot parking lot and let them do the work. read more

We had a bathtub filling up with sewage and knew that meant dragging an auger up to the main line on the roof. We only have one bathroom, so at 4:30 on Sunday afternoon, I called Plumber Bob. He had his plumber Thor arrive within an hour, by 5:30. We helped him lug that snake up on the roof and by 7:30 Sunday evening we had the toilet flushing and the shower draining. Thor is the most cheerful, helpful and hardworking young man you could ask for. He worked dliigently & adapted when his initial efforts weren't successful. Garbage disposals and I do not get along. Three different apartments, three different makes of garbage disposals, same issue. This last time, I was not about to back down, I want to utilize the disposal. I called a plumber from the approved list and after a brief conversation he said he could fit me in the following day at 4. I left work early to be there to open the door. No show, no call. I called the office after waiting for an hour and they were gone for the day, got an answering service. Phone call two hours later to reset the appointment, no apology offered. Like a previous poster, I too felt like I've been to the "plumbing contractor school of hard knocks" when I had a cold water slab leak. All the plumbers that I called were BBB'ed and were checked for contractor's license. Some even had positive reviews on yelp. The first guy brought his leak detection contractor and they started off fine, but the plumber cut into my cold water line under my kitchen sink. The idea was to cap the water and isolate where exactly the leak was located since jackhammering and fixing the leaking pipe was still on the table. Eventually, I decided for a re-pipe. Well, it's all fine and dandy to cut the cold water line and cut water to the kitchen faucet, but the guy didn't take into account that I had a single-handle faucet and the backpressure from the still connected hot water line was causing water to flow through the cut line. Into my walls which were previously dry. I dropped the first guy for lack of knowledge. I gathered quotes from 4 other guys and thought I selected a good plumbing company except for how they referred me to a water damage company that resorted to scare tactics. Mold, asbestos, lead, ripping of my newly rennovated cabinets, etc. A search on the web and a visit to the cdc.gov website assured me that this was overkill for a one-time leak that was dried out within 24/48 hrs. So I declined the water damage company services, dried out the walls myself with a carpet dryer rental, and informed the plumber that I was only going to do the re-piping. All fine back and forth communication until the morning that they were supposed to start work. They were almost an hour late with no phone calls when I found out that what they advertised on the web didn't match their paper estimate. I called them mentioning that they were late and also asked for an explanation on the near bait-and-switch. I wasn't happy with their excuses and their begrudged concession to use what was advertised. In the end, I went with Plumber Bob as he was one of the other guys I had gotten quotes on. I remembered how upfront he was on what he was going to do and how he spent the time explaining the different types of copper pipes (thinner type M vs. thicker/overkill type L). He didn't argue, he explained. His pricing was also extremely competitive. For the price he gave, I got both the re-pipe and the drywall repairs afterwards. The second guy would have only given me the re-pipe at only a slightly lower price. When Plumber Bob showed up, he made me a very happy camper by bringing the type L pipes that he knew I was attached to. He does all his own soldering so he might not be as fast as a bigger company with crew and overhead, but I found that all the more assuring. He is careful of where he cuts into the drywall and does try to minimize any disturbance/dust. He cleans up at the end of each day. Plumber Bob does excellent work. My dad who used to be a welder examined the solders every day and gave a thumbs up. More telling, perhaps, is that once the re-pipe was all done, there were no leaks at all on the first try. The water meter doesn't move at all like it did before with the slab leak. With the new pipes and new insulation of the pipes, the hot water comes out faster and hotter. I've had to lower the thermostat on the hot water heater because it's hotter than before. I'm very pleased with Plumber Bob and would happily recommend him. edit on 9/28: I noticed after I posted this review that someone else had a negative review of Plumber Bob. I'm sad to see that as I think my major job and my bad experience with past plumbers might have prioritized my re-pipe job over the toilet/faucet repair. I'm sure that if Plumber Bob had a office staff to schedule things for him, things would have turned out different, but he's a small guy with great prices because he doesn't have a secretary or salesperson. read more

After reading five star reviews on yelp for Bob Plumber, called him up for taking a look at a leak in my home. He was not able to figure what the actual issue was with the leak, instead he was leading us in the wrong direction. It seemed that he wanted to do a temporary fix instead of fixing the real issue. After we pointed out what the actual problem was he seemed to be little ticked off with that. Now he quotes me four times the normal price to fix the problem. I then asked him to provide a detailed quote. He now becomes very defensive and simply denies to provide a detailed quote. We did not hire him to fix the issue. This whole experience would make me think twice on the authencity of the various 5 star yelp reviews. read more

We realized we had a slab leak when the water bill went up considerably from one cycle to the next and there were no discernible leaks in the landscaping or inside the house. I did some very thorough research on yelp and determined that Plumber Bob had experience with slab leaks. I called him and he agreed to stop by that day. I have other plumbers and somehow I didn't feel they were up to the job. So I was taking a chance with the unknown. Plumber Bob seemed astute, thorough and did call the location of the leak, within close proximity, as well as determining that it was a cold water leak.. Nevertheless to actually pinpoint the leak we needed a leak detection specialist and he recommended CPL. Plumber Bob stopped by a second time and we then agreed to his performing the work. I had the option to reroute the pipes or to jack hammer and make the repair. He estimated precisely what the two options would cost. Rerouting was about twice the price and he figured right on what the final cost would be, including the repair with the sheet rock. I decided not to pull the carpeting and make the repair through the concrete, as the pipes were old and there was nothing to say it wouldn't happen again within a few montths in a different spot on the line. So we rerouted using copper piping.. Plumber Bob was prompt, courteous, and worked in a clean fashion covering the nearby furniture. He was also fun to talk to.. He referred me to the sheet rock man, Gilbert, who came out immediately to give me an estimate. Since Gilbert was leaving for vacation, the job did have to wait a week for completion.. However, Plumber Bob did not leave gaping holes. He cut the sheet rock so it could be replaced easily to give some semblance of normalcy to the rooms involved. In all, there were at least eight locations where the wall/ceiling had to be opened I was very pleased, satisfied, and feel I got my money's worth in that I had the benefit of Plumber Bob's expertise.
