The place is decorated to feel like a Mardi Gras party. The staff are very friendly as well. It certainly reminds me of NOLA. Onto the food. Our group got a bunch of food, but frankly I was a bit disappointed. The gumbo was actually pretty good, but there wasn't a lot of sausage. The fried okra was decent, but probably an acquired taste. This is the second time the cornbread has disappointed us. The fried chicken was ok, juicy but not as flavorful as I'd expected. The fish and chips was pretty good. That and the gumbo were probably the only good parts of dinner. Overall, not what I expected. I hear they're known for their Po'boys, so maybe I'll give them a try and update my review. The food is always amazing!! I ordered the large gumbo and the fried chicken combo plate. The fried chicken takes 20mins but is well worth the wait. Chicken was crispy and fried to perfection. The mashed potatoes were silky and seasoned to perfection. The gumbo was piping hot and was smooth as silk and full of flavor. I heard a couple of co workers say: this place had good food. Well Unfortunately I was really disappointed with my lunch. I ordered the shrimp PO Boy and fries and the best part was the fries. I am so confused but this being a "family southern restaurant ". The guy who runs it is not southern and the recipes didn't taste super authentic. This food was not good. I will preface this by saying I grew up on southern food I also hahe been going to Louisiana every year (New Orleans & Baton Rouge) to visit family so I'm very familiar with the flavors and tastes out there. My main complaints : -unseasoned food , even if you don't like somebody's food in the south this is never an issue it's usually over seasoned for that matter -the chicken was fried in cornmeal?! (If you know, you know ‍) -there's a lot of pictures up of jazz players and such but I think it's just a show ? Or maybe just an admirer ? -my moms poboy was made with wet batter I had barely eaten when the server asked me how I liked my food I was honest asn he said what that's from a chef I admire in Louisiana ‍, which is irrelevant to me liking it. He offered to take it away I insisted that I don't like to waste food but he took my barely eaten plate and wrapped it up behind the kitchen , I'm not sure what he's planning to do with it but that's weird and offered me another dish which was shrimp and grits, the grits weren't even cooked throughly had to take it home. Of course he charged me for the more expensive dish, how convenient He was trying to be nice but was pushy and made me uncomfortable like I was hard to please I never ever send my food back and wasn't going to until he asked. I will never come back and am mostly writing this so I can actually remember not to. There was a few other issues that I don't want to get into but if you know me and are reading this , you're better off staying away and going somewhere else. I was pretty disappointed in this place considering the excellent reviews - the food was rather lackluster and service was slow. The restaurant is quite tiny which is cute and has a few outdoor tables. We went late in the evening, about half an hour before closing time and they seated us at the counter right away. Considering how small the restaurant is, I was surprised they had a bar! Service was friendly but slow so don't come here if you're in a hurry. Hibiscus margarita: I could taste neither the hibiscus nor the tequila. The juice (?) tasted like it came from a bottle and it wasn't very strong. Chicken combo plate: the chicken was very juicy and crispy and was the best part of the plate! The popcorn on top surprised me, I've never had fried chicken with popcorn before - too bad the popcorn was on the stale side. The collard greens were ok and without much of the bacon/ham flavor I was hoping for. The mashed potatoes and gravy were fine, but not great. French fries: the most confusing thing we received since we were hoping for fries rather than wedges-like potatoes. I appreciate that they served fresh cut potatoes but they were not enhanced by the herbs on top, nor by the (presumably) Cajun dipping sauce served alongside. Despite my misgivings about the food, the restaurant was packed all the way past closing time so I must have ordered the wrong things. I'm not sure I'll be back to see if I'm wrong though. read more

Easy parking at Potrero Hill. Small restaurant with three outdoor tables. We snagged the one with the table for 4 at the hilly sidewalk. I called in advance to order the bucket of chicken as it saids it'll take 25min to prepare. They were nice and all good to let me do that. After we arrived, ordered the shrimp and grits, mashed potatoes with gravy and some sweet potato fries. Everything was solid. Chicken was over fried a tad (can taste a little of the used oil), sweet potato fries couldve been crispier. Service was good and quick. My boyfriend and I came at around 2:30 pm, and there was no wait. We waited around 25 minutes for our food due to the fried chicken. Our waitress was very sweet! Decorations were New Orleans inspired, and parking is street. I ordered the chicken combo plate ($22), and my boyfriend got the bbq rib platter ($24). The fried chicken was delicious with its incredibly crispy coating and tender meat. The chicken leg was the best part, so so juicy. The mashed potatoes and gravy were pretty good as well; it was rustic, smooth with small chunks. The collard greens were a pass for me, a little bland and a bitter aftertaste. The habaneros sauce was great, a nice numbing spicy sauce. The ribs were super tender and fell off the bone. The sauce was classic barbecue, nothing crazy special. Coleslaw was refreshing, crunchy, and had a light dressing. The beans were quite sad and plain. I thought they were going to baked beans, but they were just seasoned boiled beans. I had one experience and it was delivered to my hospital room. This was one of the better meals I had with delivered food during my time in SF and it really hit the spot! I ordered a chicken combo meal with 3 pieces of chicken, sides were southern style green beans and okra and then an order of the mini cornbread muffins. I had planned on trying their gooey looking Mac n cheese, but it was only available a la cart and not as a side anymore. It was all delicious. The coating was so flavorful and still crispy. The green beans were scrumptious with the bacon, onion. And tomatoes. The okra wasn't slimy and was nice little bites. And the cornbread was perfectly moist and I actually loved the mini size. Honestly, was not expecting much based on the modest but charming exterior, but the food surpassed my expectations and then some! We sat outside to enjoy the breeze and ordered the sangria and some mains. The service was excellent, very attentive. When my meal arrived, I knew I was in for something special. The Cajun pasta from Po'Boys Kitchen is the best I have ever had. From the very first bite, this isn't just a meal--it's an experience. I came on a Wednesday around 6 pm and was seated immediately. The owner and server were both very warm and welcoming. The interior was charming. The music, lights, and décor highlight the feeling of being on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. I ordered the Cajun pasta with mixed seafood. It came on a huge plate and was a hefty serving size. The seafood included calamari, mussels, salmon, and shrimp mixed with thick fettuccine noodles tossed in a creamy Cajun sauce. The Cajun sauce had a spicy kick but was balanced out with a deep, rich flavor. For dessert, I ordered the beignets, a deep-fried pastry covered in powdered sugar, and a traditional New Orleans dessert. The outside was crisp and golden, while the inside was warm and pillowy. Although I was covered in powdered sugar, it was a beautiful mess I'd happily make again. We got the spicy chicken sandwich - it's a large portion size that's sufficient to share for 2 people and comes with a well seasoned side of fries. The Mac and cheese was also excellent and we'll be coming back for more. Also highly recommend the swamp drink which is an iced tea with kombucha and mixed fruits - it's not too sweet and goes great with a sandwich. This review is based on the food. The service was great but the food wasn't up to my expectations especially having ate at several restaurants in New Orleans. This restaurant is in the Potrero Hill District with a nice view of the high rise buildings. Parking was a challenge which was expected but I was lucky to find street parking 2 blocks away. However, the location has many hills so wear comfortable shoes! I ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was seasoned but the crust appeared burnt and it was on the salty side. I had to balance the amount of sodium with the waffles. The maple syrup was watery and made my waffles soggy. The swamp tea tasted really sour. I've had beignets in NOLA and this wasn't close to it. It tasted like beignets from a box. No flavor and too cakey. It tasted like all purpose flour mixed with water then fried in oil. Overall experience was disappointing. I wish I would've ordered something different. We asked the waiter to take our picture but he said no because he was "busy". That was a first. Usually waiters and waitresses at bigger restaurants are nice enough to take a photo for the table but not this guy.
