We stopped here for breakfast once again and loved our egg breakfast platters served with flour tortillas. I was surprised by the generous amount of bacon we each got, yet again. The It was so nice getting lots of salsa and fresh chips before the food came out. The refried beans were comforting and creamy. The coffee was very hot and taste was decent. In nicer weather, the patio is such a great place in the morning with cute birds and flowering succulents. The servers are attentive and sweet, but beware: there can be very long waits depending on the time of day and year. When it's not crowded, it's very warm and comfortable. Incredibly good food. Been here twice and have been impressed each time. This is New Mexican style, which is a little spicier and much more flavorful then the Sonoran style places around town. I had the tamale breakfast with green Chile sauce this morning and my wife had the migas. The tamales were great, not too much masa, and the green Chile sauce is life changing. This is a great neighborhood restaurant and a gathering place for locals. We went for lunch and were not disappointed. I particularly liked the waitress, she made the whole lunch enjoyable with her upbeat attitude and attention to our table. The atmosphere was friendly and clean. I had the taco plate with a crispy tortilla with ground beef filling. The shells seemed to be a prepared variety but still good. The plate came with lettuce and tomato for the tacos along with rice and beans. My wife had the Chili Relleno with red sauce, along with beans and rice. This dish was great and fresh. The beans flavored well ( with adequate lard I think) I toyed with adding the last star and the only reason I did not is the rice-- funny I know, but I just am not a fan of converted rice dishes. read more

Disappointed in my lunch, especially since it was recommended to us by locals. My bf & were looking for authentic Mexican food and they pointed us here. We sat outside by the fountain. Since I wanted to try a few different things I ordered the New Mexico platter which had chile relleno, a chicken enchilada & a red shredded beef taco. I was most disappointed in my enchilada which was a folded over flour tortilla with chicken in it and sauce poured over. It was not tasty and not at all like any enchilada I've ever had. The meat in the beef taco was good, but the overall taco was not well presented. The chile relleno was ok. My bf got 2 corn shell tacos, beef & carne asada. Again - just ok. We were really disappointed in the food and couldn't understand why this place was recommended. Also - no chips or salsa. I know we could have paid extra - but really? That's kind of a staple for Mexican restaurants. As a kicker - I went to the bathroom - have to go upstairs - and it was not very clean. It was also OUT of soap. Hmm. How do the employees wash their hands? I told the hostess upon my return that there was no soap. I never saw her move to remedy the problem. Gross. read more

It has been a long while since we came to this location as loyalists to the original joint on Kolb/22nd. Given they closed recently, we were compelled to drive a little farther to try the Cantina again for breakfast. Super glad that we did, as they served us up the same great breakfast we were hoping for. Plus I got a couple breakfast cocktails in; the Bloody Maria with Hatch Green chile is so good! Not sure what was up with the one and only prior visit we made here a few years back; off day or something. My faith in the Cantina is renewed and I feel at peace with the world knowing I can get my Silver City breakfast or breakfast Tacos just like I have been able to the last 14 years living in Tucson. read more

The patio is open pretty much year-round and, unless it's really cold or wet, that's where you want to sit. If you can get a table near the fountain, even better! We've always had good service here, and the food is very tasty. As others have stated, it's different from standard Sonoran fare. My partner loves hatch chilies, so he usually gets enchiladas with the hatch sauce. He's gotten the Best of New Mexico Combo also. I almost always get the Silver City breakfast with the sauce on the side since I like to control the amount of heat! The house margaritas are large and have just the right amount of tequila. If you enjoy hatch chilies, grab a quart of their sauce to take home. Good stuff. The only improvements I can suggest is easier accessibility to the patio for those with walkers and easier restroom access. read more

Service is good depending on what day of the week you go, during the week, it almost feels as if the staff doesn't want to be there. We usually sit on the patio underneath the umbrella and huge tree which is more quiet and less crowded than inside. The food is not authentic Mexican cuisine no matter what region they say, we get the red chili pork because it kind of tastes like butter chicken, so we eat it wrapped in their sopapillas. I had dinner the other night and the food was poor. I have eaten there many times over several years and the quality has deteriorated. Ordered shredded beef enchiladas and this was the third time that there was hardly any(2 pieces) of meat. They also forgot the included quac. Waitress was good. Will not go back. Met with some family for brunch to celebrate our niece graduating HS at 16 (not so humble brag :) we are very proud). This was her request. Sadly, they do not take reservations. Thankfully (since she wanted to sit inside) we didn't have to wait long for a table. I like the big windows and open doors in the back that allowed us to enjoy a view of the patio area without the wait. Our niece wanted the pork burrito but with green salsa. The meat is already prepared in the red so it wasn't exactly what she wanted. Apparently the other location does have it as an option? She said it was still good, she just prefers their green salsa over the red. Service was pretty good. There was an issue with my husband's coffee mug that was very quickly resolved and apologies and humor. Everyone enjoyed their food. The Santa Fe breakfast was a little much for my appetite but it was cooked pretty much to order. I was very full by the time we left. The salsas were very good and the wait staff kept the drinks and chips filled. My husband liked his breakfast burrito. Pretty classic taste and ingredients for something like that. They wait staff kindly brought extra plates and forks so we could share dessert. Downside is the bathroom situation. There is a unisex single restroom near the back seating area that could have used a little attention. The other bathroom was upstairs and kinds out of the way. read more

I admit I'm not in the Southwest often but I've been around and seen a thing or two, and Poco & Moms is about the best regional Mexican I've had. Can't think of another in the Tucson or Scottsdale areas to match it, and that includes the most famous places. Reason is that all the basics are beautifully done: every sauce, salsa, guacamole, tortilla, pork, beef, chicken, bean, and ESPECIALLY chili is perfection. One of those places where the flavor goes far beyond heat--a layered, complex, but absolutely homey savor in each bite. We are slowly and the severs kindly waited for us to enjoy the food to the fullest while we closed up the joint. They could not have been nicer. You really will think of Mom and Abuela and Tia. We came here because we live nearby and other people kept recommending it to us. I absolutely LOVE the chili relleno here, it's more crunchy fried than other places. My husbands only criticism of the taco salad was that the beans inside made it too soggy, but that's a personal preference and I'm guessing he could get them on the side next time. I didn't love paying extra for chips and salsa (I'm spoiled by other local Mexican restaurants, but I get that business is expensive) The lack of a 5th star is simply because I felt like the walls/floors were on the dirty/worn out side and I'd recommend some fresh paint. As I have traveled and lived in different places throughout the US, I often miss the food from my home, New Mexico. I was happy to find a few places here in Tucson that I can find NM foods. Several people from work told me to try the food here since it's New Mexican. Well... yeah... kinda. It did have the New Mexico flavors but just not as spicy. So at least it was good for the NM fix. Huge portion though (probably is enough for two people). Coffee and service also good. Very convenient in NE of Tucson right off Tanque Verde. We saw the they server some of the best Enchiladas in Arizona. They were located just across they street form our hotel, so we just HAD to stop in a see for ourselves, despite the fact that we were going to meet family for a dinner at another local gem. We were not disappointed!! The call their food New Mexico Mexican Style cuisine. Their food is as awesome as anything that we've had in Santa Fe. We wanted to try their Enchiladas without spoiling our appetite for a family dinner in a few hours, so we requested a single Enchilada with both red and green sauce, commonly referred to as "Christmas" in New Mexico, where they joke that it's the New Mexico State Color. The red sauce was nice and a bit smoky, the green was bright and had a strong kick!! Even though my eyes watered a bit and my nose started running, I had no intention of stopping!! My wife and I also bought a jar of their awesome house made green sauce to take home. We also mentioned to the manager that they really need to bottle and sell the salsa that is served with the chips too! Both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed everything, and I think that this was the best Mexican food that we've have on our visit. And that is saying something considering that Tucson is a Mecca for Mexican cuisine!! We awarned her sisters (all locals) that they will need to periodically send us a jar of the green sauce as they are not yet selling it on line, but they hope to do so at some point. UPDATE: We retired and moved here to my wife's hometown last summer and this is one of our local favorites!! We come here often!! LOVE IT!! read more

I have eaten plenty of New Mexico Spanish food, and this place is above average for Tucson. I do enjoy their dishes and I recommend the green chili enchiladas combo. I have used their "To Go" COVID 19 service and what they have done is created a station in back patio. They opened up their sliding glass doors and placed a decorated table between you and the inside. Complementary hand sanitizer is on table as well as opportunity to buy their salsa jars and chili. The food in my opinion don't taste as well as when you sit in the restaurant as I believe the cooks can't really time your travel with their food completion time so it sits under a heat lamp. The flavors are still there but the corn tortillas in enchiladas seem dry. Still give it a try as it's New Mexican food and no virus will keep me from Hatch Green Chili enchiladas. read more
