When I get more mindful of macros and healthier choices when eating out, I remember poke bowls! I used to go to Fin's House but they don't do poke anymore; Poke Ichii is also closer but I prefer Poke Fix Natomas. When at work in West Sac, I tend to go to Hawaiian Poke. Poke Fix has signature poke bowls, Build Your Own (Regular 3 scoops or Large 5 scoops), cooked/non-raw things like Poke Bake, tempura shrimp, unagi, or spam bowls, or hamachi kama, several basic sushi rolls and four Poke Burritos! I like how you can build your own bowl, I usually get the Regular size (3 scoops protein). This visit I got sushi rice as a base (next time I might try half brown rice, half spring mix salad), and 1 scoop each of salmon, spicy tuna, and a "sweet and spicy" which looked like a mixture of marinated ahi tuna and salmon. The other protein choices they have are ahi tuna, spicy garlic ahi, scallop, shrimp, yellotail, octopus, and/or tofu. Mix-in options are green onions, yellow onions, or dried seaweed -- I just got dried seaweed. They have 8 different sauces -- sesame shoyu, garlic shoyu, citrus ponzu, sweet unagi, spicy ponzu, spicy mayo, pineapple wasabi, or sriracha chili; I got citrus ponzu for mine. FYI, Ponzu is a sauce that comes from Japanese cooking and is made out of a combination of rice wine, citrus, mirin, and dashi. Lastly, toppings! I picked crab salad (MUST), masago, cucumber, wakame (seaweed salad), edamame, pickled ginger, furikake. Avocado is $1 upcharge. The seasonal fruit was pineapple, I wonder if sometimes they do mango. My only wish is that the cucumber were more like sunomono where they're soaked in rice vinegar, or if the sushi rice itself were made with rice vinegar but that's just me. The salmon, spicy tuna, and sweet/spicy fish were all fresh and good amount. The crab salad was a whopping scoop and perfect sweetness. Added my own togarashi at home (shichimi is better than ichimi). Only 2 other customers dining in, so it wasn't busy but then again it was later in the evening (open until 8 or 8:30 PM depending on the weekday). read more

Poke is quickly becoming my new favorite food as it is essentially just new age sushi. I came at a busy time (around noon so for Lunch) and the line was almost out the door! Luckily, the friendly staff is also very fast. The burritos are pretty massive and fill you up. Think of them as a couple sushi rolls made into one massive sushi. It's a blanket of seaweed wrapped around rice and other ingredients. I would say it's about 20-30 individual rolls into one. However, they are rather pricey (~$14) . The bowl is ~$11, but the flavor and how full they make you cover the price. I would say don't expect to walk out for under ~$25 for a meal for 2. Today was my first time trying Poke Fix and I am so disappointed. I do not recommend this restaurant. TLDR: $20 for a 1/2 full poke bowl. Not great value for the $. I placed my order on Postmates for pickup and selected "The Poke Fix Bowl." Seeing as this item is named after the restaurant (or vice versa), I expected it to be the best representation of what this establishment has to offer. One star off for each issue. What went wrong: (1) Not enough food. Not only did my poke order come in the "small" sized bowl, it was only about 1/2 full of food. There was little rice and salad at the bottom (which I appreciate is usually used to help increase the serving size). And overall there were few ingredients, with some missing (see grievance 3). As I write this I've been finished eating for about 15 minutes and my stomach is growling again. Growling, I say!! (2) Tuna was poorly marinated. Usually when I have poke, the tuna is the most exciting part for me. I love when it's marinated in a soy/teriyaki mixture with garlic, sesame seeds, and other yummy ingredients. Unfortunately, this tuna tasted like it had soaked for 2 days in soy sauce, without any other additional flavors. It was so salty that at times it was difficult to eat, and jarring relative to the other flavors in the bowl. (3) Ordering was confusing. I am a veteran Postmates user, but unfortunately the options for this item were misleading. The item description lists a series of items including "all mix-ins." Like most poke places, I assumed "all mix-ins" meant the bowl included all standard mix-ins that you don't usually have to pay extra for (e.g. pineapple, cucumbers, crab salad, etc.). This assumption was further enforced by the "EXTRA toppings" section - giving the option to get ~extra~ of many of the mix-ins, for more $. I was sorely mistaken... you know what they say about assumptions. Regardless, to me "all mix-ins" means "the works," and I certainly did not get the "works." Neutral but could be improved: The restaurant has no designated "pick up" sign or area for takeout/online orders, but this should be added. When I first walked in, two people had just started to order and the employee helping them didn't acknowledge me. Not wanting to risk waiting in a line to order an item I already ordered, I walked directly to the cash register. Luckily the staff understood what I was trying to signal and helped me out. I would have been a little frustrated waiting for the staff to make an entire order before simply handing me my already made and paid-for order. I will also note that the inside was clean, with nothing special as far as ambiance goes. ~~~~~ Off to eat the broccoli I roasted to try to curb this hunger. ~~~~~ EDITED TO ADD: The owner responded to this review and did not address my grievances at all. I'll reiterate: Portion size was unreasonably small. Item description said "all add-ins" but the item did not include all the goodies. Tuna was so salty it overpowered other flavors. Now that I've began to expand my palate more, my taste buds are getting the chance to experience new tastes. Last night was Poke(pronounced poh-kay)which means to cut crosswise into pieces in Hawaiian. I ordered the Build Your Own Bowl in the Regular size, the freshness of each delicious morsel of raw fish, amazing crab salad, healthy veggies and the saltiness of the Fruikake to finish it off, made me feel satisfied. To drink I went with an Unsweetened Green Tea which for me it's not about the flavor it's about the many health benefits of this drink, so I drank up. I would definitely recommend this location and I'll be spreading the word, after you try them, which you must, vote for them on Sacramento A-List by August 11th! I'm not sure what my niece ordered, but I ordered the spicy tempura rolls (more about that shortly) and the flamin' tuna burrito. The scoop: While the portion size was excellent and price was reasonable, the fish didn't taste as fresh as others I've had. Service was friendly! The story: I visited on a rainy Tuesday afternoon and ordered two Poke Fix bowls for $14 each. One of them was gluten free, and the employee was knowledgeable about what sauces contained gluten. He ended up using citrus ponzu and Tamari for the GF bowl. Both bowls came with two scoops of tuna and a scoop of salmon on a bed of rice or greens. It also included some avocado slices, seaweed salad, edamame, onions, and I opted yes to both of the toppings (fried onions and seaweed strips). Unfortunately, the proportions of each item were different in each bowl. I got a lot of seaweed salad but there wasn't as much in the other bowl. The fish did not melt in my mouth; while it definitely was still safe and good, it didn't have that luxuriously fresh feel. The service was very nice though with kind employees. The indoor space is bright, white, and clean. They have a bathroom. Overall, I have other places in mind as a go-to for poke. It's an additional $1.50 to add salmon (or any protein), but I think the Poke Bake should already come with at least one protein of your choice; especially for the price you pay which is a little under $10 - and that's WITHOUT other toppings... So be prepared to pay almost $12-$15 if you're trying to add more stuff to your Poke Bake. AKA add toppings to try to balance out the heavy creamy taste of the crab salad. Talking about taste, it's a little too much for me now. I think it's because of the crab salad. It would be nice to see fresh cut fruit like pineapples or mangoes. Their pineapple didn't look fresh cut to me, so I didn't get it, but normally I like pineapples in my poke bowls. $11.45 is average for a regular poke bowl nowadays.
