They put things on your plate that you did not ask for and then missing some things that you did ask for. The server rushed at the end and messed up my order when there was no one behind me. This place is clean and Covid safe. I have to say I really like when I'm greeted as soon as I walk in. I came in during lunch hours. They were fast and neat. My food was definitely fresh. Quality stuff here. Plenty of toppings and sauces. Price was fair. I will say their scoops aren't as plentiful but it's ok. Not bad enough to complain. I'm definitely coming back if I'm in the area. Even though the Poke2 Grill in Downey has been open much longer than the Poke2 Grill at Long Beach Exchange (LBX), I visited the LBX location first since it is much closer to me. They were the newest addition to the Hangar, and I wanted to learn more. One evening, I had a really nice talk with Sarah, who introduced me to the restaurant and gave me a laminated menu from this Downey location. I hadn't had poke before in my life, but that changed 2 days later when I made a return visit. I loved the poke bowl so much that I actually bookmarked several other poke places nearby as well as this Poke2 Grill on the west side of Lakewood Blvd not far from where the 5 meets the 605. I had an appointment in Downey after lunch on a Thursday, so I pounced on the opportunity to stop by this Poke2 Grill and try something different. At the time of my LBX visit, they hadn't opened the grill, so I had my mind set on that part of the menu. But which menu item to choose? When I walked in, there were a handful of customers ahead of me waiting to order the BYOB poke bowls. I was looking around for a menu, but the only one I saw was behind the poke toppings, which are on the other end of the restaurant, so you can't really read the menu while you're standing in line. You'd have to take 2-3 steps to the right to have a better look at the menu. When it was my turn to order, the hostess wasn't quite ready, so I took those 2-3 steps to the right, took a photo of the menu, and quickly reviewed it before the hostess was ready. It didn't take long for me to decide on the Crispy Fish wrap, but then I noticed a familiar face. "Wait, is that Sarah???" Yes it was! And she even remembered my name! After telling the hostess I wanted the Crispy Fish wrap, she directed me to the cashier on the other side of the counter to place my order. I probably should have done that to begin with, but luckily, I wasn't in a rush. As I went up to recite my order, I checked in on Yelp to redeem the Yelp check-in offer of a free fountain drink or miso soup. I chose the miso soup. I was looking for the Poke2 Grill rewards tablet that I saw at the LBX location, but all I saw was a FiveStars rewards tablet. I was so confused! The cashier told me to enter my phone number, but I told him I was expecting a different rewards tablet. Then, I asked, "Can you get Sarah for me?" and she immediately came out. I told her about how the rewards tablet I saw at LBX wasn't the same as the rewards tablet here, but she mentioned that I could just enter my phone number and score a free fountain drink. It took me a few seconds to understand that I'd be getting a wrap combo at the price of a single wrap, so that was pretty cool! However, having two different rewards systems at the two different locations still confuses me. After paying, the cashier got me my miso soup and put the bowl off to the side while the kitchen staff was preparing my wrap. I asked the cashier how long the wait would be. He asked a different staff member, who then told me it'd be 10 minutes. However, it was probably closer to 5 minutes before Sarah called my name. She gave me my wrap in a rectangular takeout box and also offered me some hot chili sauce. She was also going to get the miso soup, but wasn't aware the cashier had previously set aside that bowl for me. It probably would have been better to wait until the wrap was ready before getting the soup, but luckily, the soup didn't cool down that fast, especially since it came with a lid. I sat at a table near the drink station to enjoy my meal away from the rest of the customers. I opened the box and saw the crispy fish wrap cut in half. The wrap was in a wrapper, so it's possible to eat the wrap without touching any food. How did the wrap taste? I enjoyed every bite of it! Well except 1-2 where I was eating mostly onions, and I almost wanted to cry. I like onions, but that was a bit much for me. Nevertheless, all the other ingredients tasted fresh, and the wrap tasted better with the hot chili sauce that Sarah offered. In fact, I enjoyed the wrap so much that after finishing the wrap, I forgot that I still had a little hot chili sauce left in the open packet! Rather than eating the sauce by itself, I decided to use it on the miso soup. I ate part of the miso soup by itself. Not bad, but nothing special really. Then, I decided to try the hot chili sauce on the rest of the soup. While there was added flavor, it was too intense for me that I actually coughed! Whoops! My bad! :( Compared to the BYOB poke bowl I had from the LBX location, I don't know which tasted better! Both times, I legit enjoyed my meal so much that I didn't realize I had extra sauce to use until I was almost done eating! No joke! Also no joke that when Sarah asked me how my meal was, I said, "I loved it!" After finishing my meal, I got some Raspberry Iced Tea, which was pretty refreshing on a warm winter day. I've been to my fair share of poke spots, but I thought this was was super delicious. Well, I was also pretty hungry... that being said, the fish tasted pretty good. There are a lot of good options of veggies and add ons to fulfill whichever tastebuds you have. The price a tad more expensive than other places I've been to, but that wasn't a big deal. I could've probably just had that and been full lol I got the large bowl because I'm extra AF and want all the protein. The only thing I didn't appreciate is that the imitation crab counts as one of your proteins. Typically at other poke places, it's included. I got salad with imitation crab, salmon, albacore, yellowtail, and octopus. Not a whole lot of options but, it was fine. I would've like scallops but, that's me. The poke is amazing here. My wife and I come here just for the poke although they have bowls, salads, tacos and wraps. There was only one time where I was really dissatisfied with the poke, when they put really light ponzu sauce. Very light that I barely tasted any sauce at all. I had to go to Ralph's (since I ordered take out) and buy ponzu sauce. Ambience is nice. They play modern hip hop. The restaurant looks clean. Service though is very bland.
