Andrew, when the customer paid for an extra protein on Grubhub and you can't figure it out from the paperwork, it's not the customer's fault - so don't be abusive or impatient. You were both. When the customer tells you (first thing when she walks up!) that you got paid for a large + 1 extra protein and that the only way to do this on the app is by paying for 2 random extras in order to give the store an extra $2, and you somehow DO NOT HEAR THIS, don't blame the customer 10 minutes later when she repeats herself and you finally choose to listen. I've only ever ordered boba from F+T until today I was craving poke. I came in around 4-5pm during happy hour. Mia provided the best customer service I've experienced in awhile. As soon as I walked in, she stopped cleaning, greeted me and promptly explained my food choices. The ahi tuna bowl she made me didn't skimp on any food and she clearly explained all my topping options with patience. The bowl itself was yummy and filling. She also got me a drink upgrade during happy hour and a stamp card started. I ordered a passion fruit green tea with boba & half sugar that was promptly made. I'm quite shocked as normally what can go wrong with a poke bowl right? Wrong. I'm planning on coming back sometime this week and give it a try again, because it was simply terrible! The rice was dried, the toppings seemed like given by using a measuring spoon, I can literally count how many sesame seeds were on top of my bowl, not to mention the one-bite-then-gone seafood salad. i accidently ordered poke from here instead of Poke Salad Bar on my eat24 ap. I've had this once and was very disappointed with their quality of fish and their difficulty in finding parking and would have never gone back... except i picked the wrong restaurant today. The tuna tasted so bad i couldnt eat more then two pieces and the salmon felt like it was sitting there for hours. Granted, i was supposed to pick up at 1230 but because of the mixup, I didnt get there until 1... maybe that explains the strange texture of the fish. I've been here twice and both times I left feeling pretty poked and bothered. The first time I came here, I was on a poke mission because I decided I wanted to try all of the poke places in my nearby vicinity (bold move considering I live in Highland Park and very close to the San Gabriel Valley). The portions are on the larger side when you compare them to more "upscale" poke restaurants that are situated in the more bustling areas of Los Angeles. However, the fish just doesn't taste that fresh or well-marinated. They also don't have a great selection of add-ins when it comes to veggies, nor do they even toss or mix the bowls once they add the sauce in. Which I feel like is the least you can do if you're gonna charge me like $2 for some tiny scoop of guac. The second time I came here was only because it was Halloween and there was absolutely no convenient parking for Spinfish. Walked in and there was literally no one else in there aside from the 2 employees. As soon as I walked in, the girl at the counter asks "What can I get for you?" I'm just standing there dumbfounded like girl, chill out I just stepped in, can I look at your menu and choices for maybe 2 seconds? We had the intention of eating in but my boyfriend and I just kept getting weird vibes because since it was Halloween it was obvious that these employees were miserable and just didn't want to be there (understandable, but you're getting paid to be here so be at least somewhat pleasant). Ive only had this place from door dash and unfortunately its the only Poke place offered through door dash. The first time around was so/so.. I noticed that they kinda skimped me on the 4 scoops of fish the large bowl is supposed to come with. I had the peanut sauce and didnt care for it. Second time around I ordered the large again and no peanut sauce and its great but again, I feel very skimped out on the serving portion. Taste is fine..fish is a little warm and really fishyy but I still eat it. I feel like the bowl is LOADED with rice but not much of the fix ins. Depends on who scoops the bowl, you may get only half the bowl, rather than full portion. Owners give you attitude for any type of complaints. PROS: -the food here is BOMB. Good selection of fresh poke and lots of different kinds of toppings. -all the teas I've tried were pretty good as well. -parking is right in front and I've rarely had trouble finding a spot. -if you dont like your tea, they will gladly add more sweetener or make a new one for you. CONS: -their set up for what line you stand in is kind of weird. You're supposed to stand in one line for a bowl or a separate one for a drink... If you choose to stand in one for the bowl and tell them that you want a drink as well they make the drink after theyre finally done with making your bowl... Ive seen that they usually have enough people staffed where someone can be making your drink while your bowl is being made at the same time. -they are pretty cheap about how much fish/toppings/rice/salad they give you. This place isnt exactly cheap for a lunch spot (about $15-$17 for a med bowl + large tea). They need to not be so cheap about the toppings or the fish. The employees seem to be making sure they give you the bare minimum of fish when theyre scooping) -some of the employees are slow when building your bowl... I'm sure lots of people come here on their lunch break, they dont want to spend their lunch waiting for you to slowly put together their bowl. -they usually have a lunch special but with a limited selection of drinks. I wish they would just let you choose any drink (obvi w out boba). Does it really cost that much more to let the customer get any drink they want for the lunch special combo?! This review is for Pokemix not the tea (which is excellent, but let's say flour and tea is separate). I love poke, but unfortunately this did not hit the spot. The setup is similar to Pokinometry where you build your own, but the execution needs work. First of all, my poke bowl was warm! This is not great with raw fish... the scallops were a tad fishy as well and the spicy tuna was not so spicy. Second, the bowl was quite bland. The fish and sides were distributed on top the rice (but NOT MIXED) and the sauce was squirted on top. This resulted in the whole bowl being very bland and the sauce lacked in flavor severely. I wanted more sauce but my rice was already saturated and I didn't want it to look soggy. Third, the side toppings need work. All the side vegetables need seasoning or some pickling to add some flavor. The edamame option is very weird bc it adds a strange mushy texture to the bite. The people who worked here were super nice and helpful but unfortunately, the food didn't cut it. The $2 add on for a tea with the poke is a nice touch. read more

Came here after going to Pokinometry hoping it was something like it but was disappointed. The concept seemed the same but wasn't. The add ons and the mix is not the same. The quality isn't as good and it's more expensive. The service was nothing to rave about either. We came here half an hour before closing so they ran out of seaweed and I asked if I could add avocado. She said they ran out, but I saw 2 avocados sitting on the cutting board. The one I had delivered from Pokemix came sad-looking with less toppings than standard (compared to Pokenoya, Poke Bar, Poke Salad Bar, Snociety--yes I love my poke). So not only do they offer fewer topping choices, they scrimp on them too). The fish was fresh, but the spicy mayo sauce was so bland I had to put more wasabi to compensate. I'm a small girl and after getting the "4 scoops large" bowl I left hungry. Portions here are small, and everything is "extra." Prices are high: $11.99 for the large bowl, with 4 "scoops" of fish. Each scoop is half the size of Spinfish (imagine a tablespoon, then double it - that is a "scoop" here). If you want hamachi / yellowtail, $1.50 on top of the bowl price. If you want some avocado, another $1.00. If you want more than one dressing on the side, that is also extra. If you want a little more of the non-fish topping, also an extra charge. Everything they can imagine you might want, they charge extra for. Before you know it, your bowl is $15.00; for that price, I can go to a sit down sushi bar at lunch. All of the "extras" I just described at Spinfish is free. No parking facility, so you have to find metered parking on Lake. I came here because although it is close enough to Spinfish, it was more convenient to where I had to be afterwards, and I figured the difference had to be small. I was wrong - even if I am going right next door, I'll go the few blocks to Spinfish. I won't be back. The price is too high and the value is too low. Generously two stars because it's about customer service just as much as the food. Another businessperson (David Wang, owner) trying to ride the wave of poke popularity. Completely lacking the sense of aloha and 'ohana, yet label themselves as a Hawaiian eatery (per business card). Because we had a Flour + Tea gift card, we visited PokeMix by Flour + Tea. At the "register," we handed the owner our $25 gift card and a dollar bill (to cover the difference). The owner made multiple card swipes, because he claimed the card had a zero balance. At one point, he asked if there was $100 on the card. (Having knowledge of the gift card purchase, I informed him that Flour + Tea issued a total of four $25 cards.) After more attempts, he realized why the card didn't work. He said the card is for Flour + Tea at his other location on Arroyo. We asked how we were suppose to distinguish between the two establishments, especially since he couldn't tell the difference between cards? His employee pointed-out the PokeMix fish logo. We mentioned the "Flour + Tea" signage is what we saw online and went by. The owner said that he can't control the internet. Well, yes he can... He needs to begin by getting his signage correct and precise; simply decide the name of the business or businesses. From the street on Lake Avenue, the business is clearly only "Flour + Tea" on the building. He also has control of his Facebook account; change the Cover Photo which also appears to be solely the "Flour + Tea" building on Lake. The South Lake Organization website also shows "Flour + Tea" - no PokeMix. (In addition, be certain to clearly inform gift card buyers of how the cards can be redeemed.) It doesn't get better. We eventually paid by credit card and asked for our gift card and $1 back. We dined-in. As we got up from the table to depart, the owner approached us to explain he THINKS the credit card transaction didn't go through; he saw no record. He asked for our credit card and was trying to explain why "my mind isn't here today." By now, we were beyond frustrated with the owner, especially when he wouldn't take the credit card to rerun before repeatedly asking, "Do you accept my apology?" (David Wang, You shouldn't demand a customer's acceptance. Plus, it wasn't an apology; you gave us a list of excuses. One being you have two kids under two at home. Yes, parenthood is demanding and a huge responsibility, but they didn't make the errors and decisions this day. You did. You need to own your mistakes. We understand mistakes happen, but you did nothing, as an owner, to make our experience any better. Your ways conveyed you want money, not customers. You appeared to be driven by greed.) Another unbelievable owner comment as we exited: We were in the parking lot and the owner comes running-out waving a dollar bill. He said he forgot to give us our dollar. We reminded him we had to ask him for it and he already returned it. (Okay, maybe a failed attempt to show honesty.) What he could have done at the initial transaction: Accepted the gift card (since he already had the money) or offered us our Aloha canned drinks on-the-house. After he realized he incorrectly processed our credit card: Generously told us the transaction didn't go through, but the meal was on-the-house or offered us some discount. (After all, if we had chosen to take-out, we would have been gone anyways.) In my mind, his goal was to collect money. Had he tried to redeem our poor visit, we would have been gracious and returned with family and friends. David Wang, as errors accumulated, sadly you made no attempt to leave us desiring to return. In an odd attempt to distract from matters or in your nervousness, you turned to ask if I liked the food. As I opened this review... It's not the food alone that determines recommendations or return visits. It's the entire experience; they go hand-in-hand. You need to treat customers respectfully, kindly and generously. People first and your business has a better chance to flourish. There are many excellent restaurants deserving of my dollars. In the area, there's SpinFish and Costco, specifically, for poke. The poke was fair, no flavor. The cucumbers were extremely bitter. The indoor sitting area was clean and modern. But whether this establishment is "PokeMix by Flour + Tea" or "Flour + Tea," either way, we are disappointed it failed to win our aloha. Update: In viewing PokeMix's Yelp photos, I repeatedly see long-term building business signs using only "Flour + Tea" and cups with text simply "Flour + Tea."
