    Fire Chicken $13.99

While there are better options for Hawaiian food, this fast-food spot offers decent prices, making it worth a try. We received a coupon in the mail and finally used it today. I was in the area and decided to grab a plate for my wife and me. The staff wasn't very friendly, but they were helpful enough to recommend some popular dishes. We were told the fire chicken was a good choice. However, the food didn't travel well; one order was wrapped, and the other wasn't, causing the sauce to spill. My wife enjoyed the teriyaki chicken, but my island chicken was just okay, and I wouldn't order it again. I wouldn't travel out of my way to come here, as there are many better mom-and-pop Hawaiian restaurants in the area. The BOGO deal was the only reason I came, and it's hard to go wrong with that.

Date of visit: August 6, 2025 Selections: Spam Musubi (2 pcs) Chicken Combo - Rice - Veggies - Macaroni salads - Hawaiian BBQ Chicken - Chicken Katsu Experience: I was craving some form of comfort food while I was heading home from an evening meeting. After looking through Trader Joe's and not finding anything to appease my appetite, I decided to walk over to Ono Hawaiian BBQ across the ways in the same plaza. It was about 30 minutes before closing time and there were two couples and a big group waiting for their orders/chilling. One of the cashiers came up to me once he saw me, but I wasn't ready yet and was stressing out lolz I finally went with the Chicken Combo instead of the Hawaiian BBQ Mix or the Seafood Mix, but will possibly try those next time. I also got a side order of spam musubi as well. I didn't have to wait too long for my order to be ready and was excited there was a sauce type station by the fountain drink station so I grabbed a little bit of everything. I ended up eating one of the spam musubi when I got in my car. Not the best, but still decent for my cravings. I ate my actual meal when I got home and definitely liked the katsu better than the bbq chicken. The katsu was pretty crunchy and went well with the macaroni salad. Definitely wasn't a fan of all the veggies hidden under the meat, but combining them with the rest of the meal helped me to eat my veggies lolz I only managed to finish half of my plate and saved the rest for my lunch at work the next day. Did finish off both spam musibi though. Overall, enjoyed my meal and planning to go back in the future!

Kalua pork combo with teriyaki chicken on veggies. The mayo macaroni/cheese was delicious.

Food is plentiful and not pricey but not what I want more of, like rice, veggies under the meat. The Kalbi combo was only one piece with shredded beef and pork slices. The Kalua pork combo with Teriyaki chicken was chopped pieces of pork rather than the picture shredded pulled meat. The taste is nothing like the Hawaiian Kahlua pig I expected. It was like flavored than cooked in its own juice. But the place is airy, clean, family friendly and comfortable. The staff are very nice and courteous.

Ordered Combo Plate and it was terrific! Great portion loved it had more cooked cabbage than white steamed rice and mac salad. Tge meat portions were hearty & plentiful portion. Took to go and when got home it was still steaming hot and fed 3 people!

Hawaiian BBQ Mix (Short Rib, BBQ Chicken, BBQ Beef) enough for two people

Price: $$ ($11-$16) Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance 4/5 I haven't been to Ono Hawaiian in a while and I was excited to found out that they just opened one in South Pasadena last year. The place is convenient and ample parking space available since it's situtated in a plaza. I could tell the interior of the restaurant is newly renovated and sparkling clean. The decoration matched the Hawaiian themed and plenty of communal table in the middle where patrons could dine and indulged their food. The staff was friendly and the price seems more reasonable than most of the restaurant in Pasadena area. The Food: Hawaiian BBQ Plate (short ribs, bbq chicken, bbq beef) was defitely my favorite. The portion was generous and could easily feed two people in my opinion, but I finished it alone (YES! It was that good). Everything was cooked to perfection even with the short rib, which I'm glad they were able to cooked it to my liking, slightly pink in the center makes it tender. The macaroni salad was everything that you expect from a Hawaiian BBQ joint, I wish they give me more. Overall, I'm very happy with my plate and my visit would not be the last.

A lovely place to get Hawaiian grills for a decent price. This location is pretty nice. The plates were good. I had the chicken ones. The meat was grilled well but mine has quite a lot of burnt parts to it. The spam was very good. Parking was a but hard to find since the complex was full of other shops too. Quick service and friendly server.

    Small order of Mac Salad.

I was excited when I saw that Ono Hawaiian BBQ had opened in the shopping center where my mailbox is located. I'm a fan of Ono's Hawaiian plate lunches especially the Crispy Shrimp, which comes with rice, veggies, and their famous Mac Salad. I typically don't like mayonnaise but there is something about that Mac Salad that is irresistible. The Crab Rangoon is also exceptionally good. I popped in the other day to satisfy my mac salad craving. The place was clean and spacious. Plenty of seating inside and a few tables outside. The gal that helped me was friendly, and my order was ready quickly. *Located in a shopping center so there is plenty of free parking.

Ono Hawaiian BBQ is a fast-casual restaurant known for its Hawaiian plate lunches with locations in California and Arizona and, surprisingly, none in Hawaii! Ono Hawaiian BBQ celebrated the Grand Opening of its South Pasadena Location on October 13th, 2023, with a BOGO promotion, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Hawaiian dancing performances, $100 gift card giveaways, and coupons for future use! They also live-streamed the festivities on Instagram Live, which was super cool to see how crazy-packed it was! They have been busy all day because of the limited-time promotion of buy one, get one free, so there were long lines! While waiting in line, we could scan the QR code to access the menu. I know many older people were in line, and they had difficulty because they didn't know how to scan the QR code. I recommend a short link they could type in on their phone browser and/or paper menus for people to look at. I also checked the menu prior, so I knew what I wanted. I bought the Hawaiian BBQ Mix and Seafood Mix. It's been a while since I've had Ono Hawaiian BBQ, but it was good. The meat was a bit chewy, and a small portion was not edible. But overall, it was good. I think some small portions were too difficult to eat. It's in the same plaza as the new Silverlake Ramen and Jamba Juice, so there is plenty of parking in the plaza. Overall, it's a great addition to the neighborhood, and I wish Ono Hawaiian BBQ much success!

Opening Day October, Friday the 13th

Opening Day on October, Friday the 13th with a great BOGO deal. The staff was very busy, well organized and friendly. Nice decor. Received my order in less than 15min, quick service and order was correct. Ordered the Hawaiian mix, which is always large enough for a big appetite, everything was tasty and well prepared. The BOGO deal was A great start to this new location. They even handed out BOGO+other coupons to return again.

Beef and Chicken & Beef Combo

Great serving size with reasonable price. Recommended for meat lovers and especially those who like BBQ or honey sauce. Food processing is quick. No tips required.

It's surprisingly never that busy, and very easy to get seated right away. The staff have always been extremely nice and friendly and very attentive which I have always appreciated. The Spicy Beef Noodle Soup + Pork XLB are my go-to orders. I get it them both every time I'm here, and it's always consistently good. The Spicy Beef Noodle Soup is very filling, and completely hits the spot every time. The broth is soothing packs the perfect amount of heat. It comes with tons of noodles, and very tender beef. The XLBs are really amazing. Make sure to eat them quickly before they cool down. The skin is not too thick, and they're always very juicy with tons of flavor. I've tried a few other things on the menu, all which have been great, but those 2 items I mentioned are definitely my favorites and part of my usual order always. I was expecting a quick and tasty meal but you can't always get what you want. I ordered the XLB, which came out in a bamboo steamer. They left the lid on, which was great, as it kept the dumplings hot longer. There was a fair amount of broth in the dumplings and the pork had some nice flavor. The Spicy Pork Wontons were not very spicy but still enjoyable. So far, so good. The table condiments included the Red Label Kikkoman Soy Sauce, which is the high sodium sauce. I asked the server if they had the Green Label "Low Sodium" soy sauce, and he said that the sauce on the table was the low sodium. I told him that the low sodium had a green label, but he insisted that the red label was the low sodium. He was trying to convince me that they had what I was asking for, I didn't want to argue with him so I dropped it. If you don't have low sodium soy sauce, then just say, "We don't have it". Don't pretend that you do. The whole exchange was disappointing, but I still went on to order their Signature Beef Noodle Soup. After about ten minutes the server came over and started clearing my table. I reminded him that I was waiting for the Beef Noodle Soup, and a panicked look came over his face, as it was clear that he forgot to put in my order. Another disappointment. After waiting for at least 20 minutes, the soup finally came out. I asked for it to be spicy but there was barely any heat, so I added my own. The broth and the noodles were ok, but the dish did not contain much beef. In addition, the beef that was included, was very fatty. Several chunks were just completely inedible. Looking back on it, most of the beef wasn't good, so maybe it wasn't bad that I didn't get more in the dish. Again, disappointing. At the end of the day, I've had worse dinning experiences, but this is one that I'm not looking forward to repeating anytime soon.

As previously mentioned, there's no issue with the food. It's juicy and flavorful. But there's inconsistencies like sometimes I get the side radish and utensils but other times not at all. The attitude of the workers you interact with are that of someone who has absolutely no pride in their work and are simply tolerating customers. It would go a long way to improve this location if workers were trained to do everything as efficiently and quickly as possible. The cost is also astronomically high for chicken. A whole chicken is $31 before any taxes or fees. It's not competitive with other Korean fried chicken places and you have to imagine part of the cost is due to the location. I would be sad if this branch closed, since it is closest to where I live, but it wouldn't be a shock that it did close. There's a lot of low hanging easy changes that could be made. Better training from management, more local deals, and focusing on customer service.
