This place would be 5 stars if they stopped closing early randomly and weren't always running out of food. However, those annoyances we have put up with for the last year or so because the food is delicious...but the other night might have finally driven us away for good. I called to make sure they were open at 7:20 even though yelp hours say open until 8:00 (we've learned our lesson), and the girl said they were about to close in 10 minutes. Not surprised. Frustrated, I said well your hours say 8:00 pm, my husband is going to be there in just a few minutes, and she said they were running out of fish and barely had any tuna left. Needless to say, my husband got there and they had tons of everything! They were just already putting them away for the night. So she straight up lied to try and get customers not to come so she could close early. I'm sure it's not the most fun job, but this kind of customer service is going to catch up with you and drive customers away. Better watch your employees! Update: Was going to give them one more chance tonight and got there after work at 7:15 and they were closing. Over it. Somehow every other business figures out how to stock food and stay open until closing. It's not rocket science. Just lost another customer. read more

First time trying this place. NEVER. AGAIN. I was told they have been opened for under 1 year. Upon arriving: 1. Soda machine out of order. 2. "Ran out of yellowtail" or is it no longer available? 3. Portion is SMALL for the price of 3 scoops. Hardly a meal. Looked more like an appetizer. 4. Ordered mild and it was spicy AF! 5. Seaweed salad is so chopped up, it looked like baby food. 5. Poke (fish) itself was diced in small pieces compared to other places. Disappointing to say the least. This type of practice won't keep this business open for long! Writing this review because I don't believe it's good business practice to charge extra for items without listing it or telling customers. I ordered my bowl and asked for extra edamame. When the worker only added one small scoop, I restated that I wanted a bit more and she reluctantly added it. Once I got to the register I noticed she had charged me 1.50 for a tiny scoop of edamame (which is the same price as an add on of avocado??) it was too late to take it off, but just off putting as a customer. The next customer I saw order a bowl didn't even ask for extra edamame and got 2 scoops so that was a bit disappointing as well. Also- we got a coffee that was 80% percent ice and like 3 sips of liquid.. food was okay- but the tuna cubes seemed very much frozen and thawing out as it was being put out. All in all, the customer service from the younger employee was good(I heard her tell customers the extra cost of items as they were ordering), but disappointing communication from the other worker I was helped by. read more

Wanted to try a new poke place and this happened to pop up on yelp while I was across the street at Target. It's hidden deep in the corner next to Ralph's. Came for dinner and it wasn't too packed, the 2 guys working that night were really nice. It's the same concept as any other Poke place and about the same price range as most places. Although they DO charge $1 extra for avocado. Pretty good selection of toppings and protein. The fish were a good cubed size and pretty fresh! I got my usual brown rice with salad and ahi tuna/salmon for the protein. For the toppings I pretty much got everything except jalapeno, wasabi, and crab meat. My choice of sauce was mild and it was a good amount of spice. I also love the cute little sriracha packets they have if you get it to-go. I docked a star because the guy working on my bowl seemed rushed and over sauced my poke bowl. Other than that, portion wise the regular (3 scoop) was enough to fill me up. I'm not sure why I haven't written a review for this place yet. I love this place and could eat here everyday. Sometimes I do. The food is always fresh and they give you very generous portions. I've actually thought it would be good if they offer a smaller bowl than the regular because there are days where I'm not as hungry and it stops me from going because I hate to waste the food. Either way, it's honestly delicious. They have tons of options for toppings, proteins and sauces. You can make the perfect special mix of poke for you. I also can't eat gluten, so I LOVE that they add the ponzu separately. Since I can't have soy sauce, I wouldn't be able to eat here if they didn't do that. It's always very clean and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. They'll always say hi to you coming in the door, even if they're working on something else. The pricing is good for what you get. First time coming to this place and I must say it was fairly decent. It doesn't compare to poke from Hawaii but its doable for mainland standards. Poki Poki HB is another assemble style fast food joint in surf city. Guests line up at the front counter to pick a base, protein scoop, sauce, and toppings before checkout. I decided on a half-and-half base with spring mix and brown rice, salmon, octopus, tuna, and all toppings with the exception of jalapeños and avocados ($1 extra). Their sauce selection is straight-forward as patrons choose from not spicy, mild, and spicy. I ordered the not spicy and I think it's a combination of ponzu and perhaps soy sauce. The plate was colorful and the portions were extremely generous. I also loved the diverse fish selection: octopus, yellowtail, salmon, ahi tuna, spicy tuna, shrimp, albacore, scallop and for the non-fish patrons tofu, so there's something for everyone. The assortment of toppings was also wide as I got to include both western (ie. corn, green onions) and eastern (ie. masago eggs, seaweed) additions. They also have lemon infused self-serve water station which is a nice touch and makes my H2O beverage even more refreshing and hydrating. The one area that I'd recommend to the owners is perhaps rethink about the vessel in which they prepare these entrees. We eat with our eyes and although the ingredients look and taste wonderful, the bowl cheapens the experience. read more

This might actually be my new favorite place to get poke bowls. Was craving for a yummy poke bowl and was going to go to my usual spot somewhere else, but I wanted to try a new spot. I've heard about Poki Poki before but never tried it and after some hesitation I decided to go for it. I yelped it and GPS my way over here. Directions on google maps kind of took me to unnecessary turns, but I finally found it and parking lot is pretty ample so I parked quickly. The store is clean upon entering and workers are pretty helpful and friendly. Menu boards on the wall make it easy to order step by step. I went with half brown rice/half salad mix for my base.They have 3 different sizes. I ordered medium which came with 3 scoops, so I chose albacore, spicy tuna, and tuna and asked them to mix the spicy tuna with the other fish and toppings, which they did no problem. I noticed there were more options for toppings than other places such as corn, edamame, red onions, tempura crunch, etc. so that's a plus! They do have a more limited choice when it comes to sauces compared to my usual poke spot, but I just mixed the spicy mayo, spicy miso, and ponzu/soy sauce and it's still very tasty. They also do offer additional sauces and wasabi in small containers on the side if you'd like. The portion was huge depending on how many toppings you choose. Everything came out to under $11. I ended up sharing my meal with someone and it fed both of us very well. Definitely will recommend and will return! =) read more

Glad to see Poki Poki reopened! Today I ordered my usual. Regular bowl with brown rice and salad. The fish is fresh (salmon and ahi tuna) and there are plenty of toppings for your choosing. She got salmon and seared ahi over brown rice, and I got spicy tuna, salmon, and more salmon over white rice. My favorite poki place it's delicious. They have tasty salmon ,crab meat , mango and seaweed salad . I love everyone that works here .They are all super friendly except 1 tall heavy light skin , chick . Already spoke to the manager about her and she never improved . She's is just so unhappy and her response is so ugly and her vibe sucks even tho I'm super respectful to her and nice .Next time she's there I would rather maybe ask someone else to assist me ughhh or just go to habit instead smh but my experience there is not enjoyable when she serves me and what makes its worst is she wants to charge me extra for extra mango and everyone else don't since I don't order a lot or toppings . This Poki restaurant used to be mine & my girlfriend's favorite. It's right around the corner and convenient but with every changing business practice we are turned more and more off. When they decreased the portions of their seaweed salad and cut it to fit in their smaller scoops, even though seaweed salad is supposed to be more stringy, we turned a blind eye. But now they've even stopped chopping their shrimp and now simply filet it. I don't want chunks of shrimp in my bowl, I'd like bits in every bite just like every other protein. The excuse I was given is that their newbies keep messing up the scoop portions. Then train them better; that's what employee training is for. They also doubled down saying that it takes too long to cut. I'm sorry, but I'm buying prepared food from your restaurant and now you are not preparing the food. This has "lazy" written all over it.
