Super cute little café! I came here on July 4 weekend and the lady in charge was also dressed and red white and blue like me. We had a moment where we admired each other's outfits and we were seated immediately. They are pretty accommodating with the menu options, I asked for an addition and they were happy to oblige. The food was well prepared and they have simple solid good American food. They have a huge variety of pancakes and a really cute outdoor seating area for the nice days where you can enjoy the sunshine. Falsely represented. Menu looked great at first but then the problems arose. Penne pasta entree came out in a broth so deep it looked like soup, was returned the minute the waitress saw it, i said nothing. Then the blackened snapper came out which looked frozen then thawed then grilled. It was frightening at $25 a plate. Lastly the bill came, and they don't accept major credit cards. They require a check or cash on an average $85-100 bill. So sad and disappointing. read more

Traditional restaurant filled with loyal, local customers. Once you enter you feel like you are going back in time in a sea-faring town. We sat at the bar, watched football and had a great burger which came on an English muffin. Food is solid...Not out of this world , but good. If I came back the second night out here.. it must be good... either that or they gave me the cool outside corner table twice on two gorgeous nights! and my party was small ... once me... and 2 friends who came over to say hi... from the beach bakery... then me and friend MaryAnne.. they were so nice! Very accommodating... very helpful with recommendations... the staff, the location and the porch, and the cheesy white christmas lights make the place the fun place it is to be. The food was fine. Rasberry sorbet was Haagen- Dazs but they were so generous... and made it look like fun. The fried banana and carmel/ mocha or something drizzled over vanilla ice cream were deadly. Too fried... will never succumb like that again. (supposedly). They have nice salads with all kinds of fun things, mango, pears, nuts, etc etc. They have creative dishes like pasta with mussels, sausage etc. And they have standard old boring strip steak & baked potato with veg.... (eek - yes I got that in the Hampton's where seafood is all you should be thinking). They have a cool turkey burger with cranberry etc.. Fun place - in a cool little small town village. My experience at the Post Stop Cafe was about average. I had the Shrimp Scampi which I enjoyed very much, however, be sure to ask for the Shrimp Scampi over pasta or you'll starve. My mother had one of the best Turkey burgers we ever consumed. Their turkey burger is served on a whole wheat English muffin, well seasoned, juicy and contain whole cranberries in every other bite and topped with melted gorgonzola cheese. Absolutely out of this world. My stepfather had the Scallops which he devoured! We all greatly enjoyed our meals. Our waitress was forgetable, but the service was average. We came on a Sunday night in mid-October, very much post season. We were quickly seated in a quaint room with a lot of charm near the bar. Our waiter was a attentive, brought us bread and water and took our orders after giving us time to peruse the menu. I ordered Chicken Francais and my wife the coconut shrimp. My chicken was moist, tender, and the garlic, lemon, and wine sauce was delicious. The baked potato came plain but we asked for sour cream and it was promptly delivered. Mixed vegetables of broccoli, carrots, an cauliflower, were fresh, cooked appropriately, but I thought could have used some butter and salt. I tried adding some of the butter that came with the bread, but the veggies were not hot enough to melt it. My wife said the coconut shrimp were great and concurred on the veg and potato opinion. Meals were moderately priced, but $9 for a glass of "house" white seemed steep. All in all a very good meal and experience. Many of the earlier reviews mentioned long wait times, and erratic service but we experienced neither. Good food, nice ambience, and worth the visit. Btw.. If I was reviewing just the food and the food alone I would give this place a five. So keep that in mind. The food is good and fresh. I had the cranberry chicken salad wrap with fries from their summer menu and an unsweetened ice tea and I was very happy with the meal. I tried my friend's cranberry burger and it was amazing. So why the three stars? Well for one as my friend, Melanie S, said below.. the atmosphere kinda sucked. The hostess was not nice at all. She kept telling people to get out of the way. She didn't ask if we wanted to sit inside or outside, and just wasn't very friendly. The waiter didn't fill the water and only checked on our table like twice throughout the whole meal (and forgot our water). Also the summer menu was posted on a chalk board that was kind of haphazardly set aside and constantly moved by the hostess. If my friend hadn't noticed it before it was taken away and seen the cranberry wrap then I'd have had no idea it existed and missed out. They need to make their special menu somewhere where everyone can clearly see it. Why not print it out and hand it with the regular menus like many places do? I was debating between two and three stars... I went for three because the food was good. My friends and I were trying to find a place to eat on a Sunday afternoon before we went to the beach. We decided on the Post Stop Cafe since it looked cute and it wasn't as busy as the other places. When we entered the premises, the hostess didn't even great us. She was in her little bubble of attitude. She didn't greet us but she did ask us how many were and then asked us to step outside and wait, which we did. After ten minutes we were seated and the hostess carried a big marker board of specials towards us. Here is an idea, instead of carrying around a 4 foot marker board, why not take time to type up a specials menu? Just saying... The waiting service was dry and water was offered to us midway through eating. The atmosphere to me seemed stuffy and having the hostess boss people around in the dining area, killed it for me. Don't get me wrong the place is adorable and the history on the back of the menu is interesting but when the atmosphere sucks, everything else really doesn't matter. Put it this way, I am from Queens and the waiters/waitresses/hostesses are A LOT friendlier then the ones who waited on us. The food wasn't too bad. I had the Cranberry, Almond, and Chicken wrap. I didn't expect there to be mayo in the sandwich so for me it was a surprise. I had the salad as a side instead of fries and the salad had some rotten leaves and the dressing wasn't the best. They only accept American Express and Cash. Would I come back? Probably not. I would check out other eateries around the area. Would I recommend you try it? I have occasionally dined at the Post Stop Cafe over at least 30 years - but I never remember the food being as good as it has been in recent times. Two recent dinners were really great - with the most delicious fruity salad special ( we also once had their "spring salad" on the regular menu, also delicious.) But what I really loved was the cranberry almond crusted salmon one night, and the crunchy cod special with great flavoring on another! My partner had chicken teriyaki with pineapple, which was also delicious. The place is old world kitschy and homey with cute signage with sweet messages. People tend to overlook this very sweet restaurant - but it's really a find!!! read more

Came here last night after being told there was a 45-minute wait at Starboggs. Oh well. What a waste. I didn't enjoy my meal that much. I got the Flounder Florentine which was spinach, tomatoes, and feta in flounder. Not good...the spinach was actually ice cold in some parts. I dont care if you used frozen spinach, but can you at least warm it in the microwave before putting it on my plate? Nothing worse than paying $21 for a plate of COLD FISH! My friend ordered the mussels w/linguini, which again was kind of cold (the pasta). The wine sauce was decent, but I've had better. Service was spotty. THEY ONLY TAKE American Express. I debated between 3 stars and 4. I'd say more 3.5. It wasn't that bad but could have been worse. I'm a born and raised wise ass from Brooklyn. There was a time where I preferred those who had that blunt attitude you had to analyze to see if they were being nice or really just a dick. Mostly for nostalgic reasons, it's what I grew up with, etc. In recent months, I honestly prefer the nice, polite, friendly mannered traits of someone not native to New York and when I come across those who are local-types again, they irritate the hell out of me. The hostess for this place was the first flag. We barely opened the door and she's shoo-ing us outside like pests for blocking the way. That's how you greet people? While outside and after seated inside, almost every girl(the girl waiting for the bathroom was nice) around us, around our age had a bitchy look on their face. The waiter was nice but not that attentive. All the tables around us had water but we weren't asked until half way through the meal. Then while we're eating, the hostess tells two other people to move out of the way and not stand by the table of another group because it was blocking the waitress. The guy moves further into the place and she's like "Sir, come this way. I don't know where you think you're going." How do you talk like that to a customer, even if they are in the wrong? Which by the way, they disregard her and go back to standing, talking and blocking the path for the waitresses. The food wasn't bad and there wasn't much of a long wait. I had the cranberry turkey burger which was pretty good. Salad was ok but not so much the dressing. But yet another place with no drink menu...which is funny because it looked like they had a bar too. Bathroom was clean and one of the nicer ones I've seen in a while. Again I would have given it a four but the overall impression I got from the surrounding environment sucked...in spite of the old time comforting decor they have. Was here for a brunch sort of meal, and it was good. I had a Cajun catfish that was prepared well, and then there was some crispy French toast that was really good, and a little different. The service was a little spotty, some people next to us actually got up as they were not helped for 10 minutes or so after they sat down. There is a nice little porch to eat on, very nice touch. The decor is very cute/kitschy, old post office-y, but oh well. They only accept cash and American Express. The restrooms were nice with private stalls, clean and well kept, 3.5 Flushes. read more

We haven't been here for a number of years, & after reading some of these reviews, frankly had doubts about trying it again before a show at the Performing Arts Center. We needn't have worried. The food was delicious & the service was friendly & attentive. Try any of the scallop dishes. The problem with this restaurant is that it is that they employ racists. We have a black man in the White House but racism and prejudice is alive and well in the United States. It is alive and well at the Post Stop Cafe. I went into this establishment with my husband and another friend of ours. My husband and I are white, our friend is not, he is black. From the moment we walked in it was very clear we were not welcome there. Beginning with hostile looks from the hostess and driven home by the racist bartender, Robert. We sat at the bar and were ignored. Yes, he ignored us. He ignored our requests for service, he would not look at us. We had to ask repeatedly for service. He was too busy wiping down the bar to be bothered with serving customers. After sitting there for 10 minutes and being ignored we paid for our drinks and left. It was painful and obvious what the problem was. This was not imagined or exaggerated. I have described the experience exactly as it happened. read more

I don't know why or how there are mixed reviews about this place, I loved it! My best friend and I were walking around and found this cute little place during our trip to the Hamptons. We asked to see a menu before committing and they immediately gave us a menu and brought out the specials board. We were seated very quickly and the service was excellent. I got the scallops with wasabi sauce and mashed sweet potatoes along with splitting potato skins for an appetizer. Every single thing I had was excellent. Although we are not local, I will absolutely be back for lunch or dinner. read more
