UPDATE 1: Review #830 2025-110 Contractor's License: 783446, expired 07/15/24 I can't remember exactly how my husband came into contact with Precision Overhead Garage Door Service, but he ended choosing them to repair our detached garage door; the door opens partially & drops while backing out the car. In any event, the repairs were completed & we were charged $620.86 for 2 springs (234-35 LHW & 250-39 RHW) & Lube & Tune with a 1-year warranty on parts & labor. It's 1 year later, & we're having garage door issues again. I didn't want to use Precision Overhead Garage Door Service due to previous concerns & discovery of their (Michael Diaz) expired contractor's license #783446: 07/15/24 (see posted pic) at the time of service on 12/2024 & learned about the expired license when the work was completed.＼(｀0´)／ The Department of Consumer Affairs - Contractors State License Board (CSLB) lists this #'s business info as: Laguna Overhead Ltd. dba Precision Overhead Garage Door Service operating at 1231 N. Patt St., Anaheim, CA 92806, which slightly differs (missing suite # & different zip code) what's on the POGDS website (1231 N. Patt St., #180); Yelp business page is also missing suite #. I feel swindled because we relied on their expertise & service, yet they didn't maintain their license which is required for work over $500 & is considered a criminal misdemeanor (per CSLB BPC § 7028 & 7028.7). According to their website (https://www.precisiondoor.net/locations/california/orange-county/anaheim), the contractor's license is listed as #979078 (see posted pic); CSLB lists that #'s business info as: Highland Arms Enterprises LLC dab Precision Garage Door Service operating at 14660 NE N. Woodinvile Way, Suite 100, Woodinville, WA 98072 (see posted pic). It's my understanding that a California license is required to work in CA, but the CSLB offers a streamlines reciprocity process for licenses from AZ, LA, NV, & UT, with the potential to waive the trade exam if a valid license in good standing for 5 years & other requirements are met, which isn't applicable to #979078 because it's registered for WA. For this recent garage issue, I worked with Mike Stevenson Garage Door Repair (refer to Review #931) & come to learn that Precision Overhead Garage Door Service used the wrong size spring. Ben, MSGDR technician, says POGDS should have used 225-27, not 250-39 & 234-35; they're meant for wood doors, not aluminum like mine. Why is this bad? A good, correctly sized garage door spring is CRUCIAL for safety, balance, & longevity, as it counteracts the door's weight for smooth operation; the wrong size causes uneven movement, strains the opener & other parts, leading to premature failure, expensive repairs, & dangerous snapping or sudden collapses. Using the RIGHT spring size ensures the opener works efficiently, prevents jerky movements, & protects the entire system from excessive stress. What does this mean? While Precision Overhead Garage Door Service repaired the door with new springs, their wrong springs caused further damage with imbalance, straining the opener, increasing wear on other parts, & potentially damaging the left & right cables. To date, Precision Overhead Garage Door Service has not made their contractor's license current/active, still using a different vendor's license. I plan to contact them re: the incorrect part that most likely caused this recent failure to see if they stand by their service & products; MSGDR is willing to be the SME (subject matter expert) on the POGDS parts issue. I highly recommend YOU DO NOT USE Precision Overhead Garage Door Service in Anaheim until they operate with a proper, valid license.

Michael Diaz came to my house and installed a nice belt garage door motor. He is extremely professional and skilled. He did an excellent job installing the motor. He kept the work area very clean and has a nice sense of humor. I would highly recommend him for any garage door needs and services.

Alex was the technician who came out. He was very professional and pleasant He did the required inspection that all garage door companies state they "require" i explained that I had loosened the cable and just needed it reattached, he then went on to provide an estimate for replacement of 8 items including custom springs adding up to about $5000.00 to be fair, 2 other companies came and also wanted to basically replace everything for 5-7000 dollars we then found the number for our original door company Crown Garage doors. they came out fixed the cable, readjusted the springs $450 dollars for about 1 1/2 hours of labor, no parts needed Precision is just one of many garage door scams. They are like the "travelers" back east who show up and try to sell repairs and parts to unsuspecting customers These scams are pervasive throughout this industry Stay away from Precision read more

Matt, the technician, arrived the following morning right on time. He analyzed the problem, gave us three options, and explained everything clearly. I can't speak highly enough about Michael Camacho with Precision Door. Michael came out and explained everything to me. He answered all of my questions. But what's more, Precision Door is the 4th company I've had come out to fix things with the door. Last night, the door wouldn't close or go up all the way. Called Precision to have my broken spring replaced on my sectional garage door. Sergio M. was my installer. He thoroughly inspected all components and determined that other tan the obviously broken spring, the bearings were shot. Sergio provided a detailed estimate, which I found reasonable, and I approved the work. Everything was competed quickly and professionally. This repair will last as long as I live in this house and probably long after I'm gone. read more

Friendly, capable professionals. We contacted Precision after our garage door was suffering from old age. The remote stopped working and the old wood door was in sad shape. Precision quickly analyzed the problems -- and there were several -- and recommended several new door and motor options. We selected one that fit well with our home design. Installation by Brandon and Jason went flawlessly. The team worked together seamlessly and clearly enjoyed what they were creating. Everything was done quickly and cleanly and our new door is now gliding smoothly and quietly -- quite a change from the old door, which rattled and creaked quite noisily. Recently, I had a problem with my double garage door, where a cable broke and the door was frozen in a "half-way closed position". I contacted Precision and they were very responsive and came immediately. They sent Eddy Hernandez, Field Mgr. and he totally solved our broken door problem. Eddy was efficient, courteous, and really knew the technology of garage doors. He gave the choice of 3 estimates that showed 3 various scopes of work, and explained each proposal. Since our door was very old, we went for the one that replaced almost everything and we are so happy with the result. The opener is quieter, smoother, faster, and state-of-the-art. My garage door motor was on its way out after 20 years of service. I needed an upgrade for the weight of the door (custom), also wanted an intergraded wifi for use with my phone. Eric S. Came out to evaluate our garage door that required maintenance. He provided his expert opinion and highly suggested that we change out several parts as it could break at any given moment. He spent 30 seconds to visually inspect our garage door and rails and was able to provide details of all the parts that needed to be replaced. I declined the service bill close to $900 and he was very pushy insisting that I needed the repairs. The only way could get him to leave peacefully was to pay the inspection bill. He charged $40 for the evaluation and said it would be applied to the order if we decided to go with Precision. I don't recommend even calling these guys - they're dishonest! I called and had them come out for a quote and they charged me $120 for that - and to me that's what they do - charge for a visit and that's it. I tried to pursue a revised bundle quote (from their rep Josh) for a door replacement and motor replacement since they recommended both - a $2,600 job. Upon never being called back I called Mesa Garage door and they came out and adjusted my motor for free (precision recommended replacement for $849.95) and did the door replacement for a couple hundred less. Due to the inconvenience for them wasting my time, I requested my service call fee back and was simply ghosted. I tried numerous times to have them right their wrong before writing this post, but to no avail only received acknowledgment calls back from Olga saying they got my request. Needless to say - I don't recommend them and regret my mistake of calling them at all. read more

On Sunday night, my small garage door would not close. I called the precision garage door 24 hour number and asked if I could get service that night. They made the arrangements and within about two hours their service technician, Daniel Joerman was ringing my front doorbell. He got right to work and had the door fixed within a few minutes. He was polite and professional and knew exactly what to do. He also oiled the rollers and checked all the tracks. Both my doors now work perfectly thanks to Daniel. I had a technician (Mitch) come out and quote a spring replacement for $1,700. Over priced by about $1,400 but I still gave them a chance. After everything was installed the garage would not close leaving about a 2 foot gap from the floor. After trying to burn out the garage door motor for an hour the Mitch said the garage door opener needed to be replaced for another $1,000. So I told him to leave. He left and 3 months later I received a bill for 1,700 for a non working garage door. I highly recommend reading the other reviews before using this company. read more

It was time to replace my 12 year old Liftmaster garage door opener. The machine was reliable and never broke but was extremely noisy. I requested a price quote from Precision OC and they quickly responded and setup a free consultation. The technicians Eddy and Romeo were very helpful and give me some options. I decided to go with the Marantec unit. The difference is night and day. The unit is extremely quiet and barely makes a sound when opening and closing. Both Eddy and Romeo installed the unit and lubricated the other parts in approx one hour. Price was reasonable. I am very happy with the service, appointment text reminders and call from Romeo when they were enroute to my place. They were on time, professional and explained to me how the system worked. When you don't feel well you go to the doctors to be treated by a medical professional. When you want to go on vacation and fly to your location you trust a skilled pilot. When you need to install, repair or tune up your existing garage doors you look to an experienced installers. I have used Precision anytime I need a new garage door, motor or tune up. This particular time Precision sent out Eddy H. To take a look at the motor that was making a clanking noise. Eddy found the problem right away and replaced the affected part. I asked him how much and he said no charge. He then recommended a tune up and since he was here, I agreed. It's a good thing because the doors did need some adjustments. After paying for my service call, I received a text from "Precision Door Service of Orange County". I was asked to provide a numeric score on how likely I would be to recommend them to a friend or colleague. I think this single score metric is overly simplistic, and it doesn't allow me to provide insight on why I gave the grade that I did. The following are some of my thoughts--and tips for the reader. "Precision Door Service" is a national company. Each local office is an independently owned and operated franchisee. The positive is that the franchisor provides the franchisee with a business plan and support--such as a 24-hour call center to take messages, or to direct prospective customers to the closest office. So here is my first tip: Once you get in touch with your local office, ask for a direct telephone number. Otherwise, all of your calls will first go though the call center, and then will be forwarded to the local office as a message. For example, the technician called me while on site. I was on another line and missed the first call--but I called back immediately, and I got the call center. Fortunately, the repairman urgently wanted to get a hold of me, and called again 5 minutes later. I called Precision Garage Door to provide today's service call because they installed this garage door and garage door opener several years ago. Even though they stencil their logo and contact information on the equipment, they are not an OEM (original equipment manufacturer). So here's my second tip: A year ago, I needed a replacement accessory part. I called Precision, and I got a price quote. Knowing Precision was not an OEM, I looked and found that exact OEM item on Amazon for a fraction of what Precision quoted me. When I spoke to the repairman, he explained the technical problem and provided me with three service options, highlighting his recommended option. The most expensive mix of services would have totaled $1,000. (Upsell.) My total invoice was $534.98--but the essential service I needed was a reset of the garage door opener limit switches ($89.99). (The repairman described it as "reprograming" the garage door--giving the impression that the problem might be software related. I was on the internet while talking to him on the phone, and I found a detailed procedure on how to reset the limit switches for my unit. All you need is a "magic screwdriver".) But even then, there were some ancillary services I needed. Do not misinterpret what I am saying. The "pros" of working with Precision Door Service of Orange County are: Getting a hold of them is easy. Setting up an appointment is easy. They show up on time. They get the job done. They are professional. The only "con" is that I have more than one rental property, and I know one of my other service vendors could have done this job for less. And not being a novice consumer, I prefer a bottom line quote for the essential service. Even though the repairman did not engage in any heavy handed sale tactics, I don't like it when they plant the seeds for up-sales. Fortunately, I paid just a "bit of a premium" working with Precision. I didn't outrageously overpay. read more

My two car garage door was dragging up and coming down hard. The tech told me I needed a complete restoration to save the life of the motor. Quoted me $1,700 to what I learned now was to replace the cables and rollers. It was not the service he claimed to perform. I was concerned about the cost- researched online for the repair he recommended but found nothing that came close to the $1,700 quote. I decided to check in with my contractor after I authorized work, he questioned the tech about the cost of service over the phone. I sent my contractor a video of the service tech said he performed. Contractor told tech parts would be at the most $300. So Sunwest was charging me $1,400 for labor??? That's just unethical! I'm attaching their "bill of sale" that simply lists the condition of my garage door -not the work they claimed to be performing. On top of the ridiculous up charge the vendor never offered me the least expensive repair option of around $500 that's listed. I again questioned the cost and expressed that I could possibly get a new door for that much money. The tech went as far as telling me a new door, after Covid and prices rising, would cost me $6k. My contractor said he would get a complete new system installed for under $2k. In the end I refused service and asked them to restore my garage door as it was. The tech got his boss on the line and asked me to talk so we could come to some sort of discount. I refused to do business with them. And when given clear proof of their wrong doing they walked away without charging a service fee I thank my contractor who saved me from this scam of a company who in the end apologized for the over charge and didn't charge me for the mediocre job performed.

It was time to replace it with something sturdier and less likely to warp, shrink, fade. I did a lot of research on what materilas would best hold up to the brutal So Cal summers we have. I also had to keep within the Architectural guidelines of our HOA for fences. I found a company in Orange, CA, called SoCal Gates. I established contact with the owner, Ray, who is a really knowledgeable and personable guy to work with. We scheduled an appointment for him to come to our home to show us color samples of the composite material we would choose for him to use in our steel framed gate. Ray arrived, and had us look at the different colored composite samples while he took his measurements. He then went over with us the color choices and which ones would intergrate best with our home's exterior colors, including the tiled roof and front entry door and garage door. He explained how he visualized the gate would look, once mounted. We agreed on the materials and and the price. He mentioned that his installation pricing included the removal of the gate from the cinder block wall it was attached to, but did not include the removal of the old fence post or the haul away fo the old fence. After hiring another fence company to remove the fence post, back fill with concrete and haul away all of the old fence, Ray told he would've done it had I specifically asked him, for an extra charge. In fact, he told me how to remove the old post myself, so that gave me the impression he would prefer to just to install the gate with the old fence gone and the area prepped for his installation. After the HOA approved my gate plan, It only took a few weeks for Ray to build our gate and to schedule a date and time for the installation. On the day of the installation, I watched Ray assemble and install my agte, He is meticulous and thoughtful throughout his installation process. He showed me how to change out the composite planks if I ever needed to, and how to program our electronic lockest. We are very happy with out new sturdy, side gate. I would recommend anyone needing a new steel framed gate with composite planking to contact Ray.

This is a horrible door company. They had no problem showing up at 8:30PM to make a sale, but then took three weeks after the promised date to get my door installed and its still not working! The first delay was because they didn't make the door I ordered and then the second delay was because the door they made was not to the sizes that were measured!?!? What kind of outfit does this? I was ready to fire these guys as my cars were being held capitive in the garage waiting on the new garage door. So they finally show up three weeks later and install the door and I had to shell out another $500 for a garage door motor to boot because apparently the motor I had couldn't support their new door. A detail I might add that was conveniently left out of the original order! So 12 hours after installation my wife tells me the door doesn't work. Sure enough, the remotes just cause the NEW motor to just make a clicking noise. I have to manually lift the door. I try to call them back, but surprise surprise there is no customer service number anywhere on my invoice! I had to Google the f****n company to get a phone number to reach them! Once I did, they had the audacity to ask me how I got their number! Then the earliest service call they had was two days later! Funny how they came over the day we called for a new door and secured $1,200 for services, but they were unavailable to fix their install for two days. So two days go by and the door starts to work...I don't know how, but it does. So I call them at 6:15AM to cancel the service call, which is anywhere from 8:00AM to 10:00AM,...the door stops working at 6:50AM, I call back to reinstate the service call, only to find out that I have to wait two more days for a service call! I lose it on the phone and ask how my time slot was rescheduled in the past 30 minutes when the service tech's haven't even shown up to work yet! I have had it with this bozo outfit and am reporting them the BBB, Yelp, Facebook, Twitter and any other media outlet available to warn good folks that these guys are overpriced and incompetent. STAY AWAY FOLKS, THIS COMPANY LACKS ANY PRECISION in all aspects of their business. read more

Precision Garage Door Service of Orange County is lucky to receive a 1 star rating from me and that was for answering a call late in the evening and for being able to come out the next afternoon. Our technician's card said his name was Jesus but I swear I heard him say his name was Art. The technician looked around at our garage opener and immediately said oh this isn't working anymore and your system is old and you should replace it for $700+ depending on what system you purchase out of their 3 options. We decided to "think about it" and did some research on other garage door companies and ended up finding a different company. The other company came, fixed the garage door opener in less than a minute, showed me what the issue was, tried programming our new remotes (which did not work with the opener), and so he provided us with 2 programmed remotes...all for only a little more than Precision Garage Door Service of Orange County's service fee...which by the way was not mentioned over the phone when we set up the appointment. Our technician said that it was to be mentioned over the phone when we made the appointment and said that he could call to have it waived. I ended up just paying the $40 because he did come out and he didn't really want to call. He just kept saying if you continue using our service, it'll go back to you (be deducted from whatever you purchase). I realize now that he's probably paid on commission and so that was why he was pressing the new system. The technician didn't even send me a receipt for the $40 like he said he would (paid in cash). So enjoy the $40 you got out of me. When I do need a new garage door opener, I'll be going to the other company that helped me. Update: Olga contacted me after I sent back the pre-job signature mentioning that I would not be accepting the technicians' recommendations and truly seemed to care about what led to my decision and what they could have done to better assist me. She sent me the invoice/receipt and will be reimbursing the $40 and has forwarded my feedback to management. I've bumped up the stars to 3 for the time being. read more
