Was not a fan. Server was way too annoying messing with things on our table. It got awkward. Then there was the food. It sucked & it took forever to arrive. Also, my steak was rare but I like medium well. This happened because they literally forgot to ask me how I wanted my steak!! I had to send it back & wait some more. I absolutely hate trying to go out & splurge on fine dining & the food is bad. It's like, did I seriously just spend $200 on food that sucked? Went here for our anniversary in May. If you are a hipster and you want to be served by hipsters in a hipster type place, then this is your steakhouse. It's a pretty small place and you can hear in the detail the conversation of the folks next to you because the tables are so close and everything is open. Food is what you would expect at that price point. Our waiter was a little odd and checked on us way too frequently in the most awkward ways. We both got filets and it was cooked as we requested. We overheard our waiter offering the couple next to us complimentary dessert because they were there for there anniversary, but didn't off it to us which was also weird (he had asked us if we wee there for an special occasion and we told him). All in all, I will stick to the Mahogany's due to superior service, and food! read more

I am so surprised to read the other reviews about this place, I loved it here when I was visiting! The space was pretty, the service was exceptional, the seasonal salad at the time was kick-ass, my negroni was perfectly mixed, and my steak (I forget the exact description, but I think it was wet-aged) was perfect. I travel all the time for business, and when I think about Tulsa, the first thing that pops into my mind, in a good way, is Phryme Steakhouse. I will definitely be back upon my next visit! read more

Went on Tuesday and they have the half priced Bar specials, great deal. The onion rings with steak sauce were DIVINE!!! The oysters were a little cheesy for my taste. Let me start off by saying WOW. Phryme is a gem here in Tulsa. My evening began with a last minute search for a place to eat - 7:30pm on a Saturday night in downtown with no prior reservations can be problematic. Thanks to yelp* and OpenTable (conveniently linked into my yelp app) I was able to book a table for 3 at 8pm. I arrived a bit early because I anticipated parking being a drag but I was shocked and happy to find that Phryme offers FREE Valet parking (remember to tip your valet). Walking in I was greeted by a beautiful hostess who offered to take my coat... (it's been a while since I've been to a restaurant that had a proper coat check) and the manager who greeted me as well - in spite of my grossly underdressed appearance (oops). I waited for my +2 at the bar and had a beverage while I waited. You will not be disappointed by their selection. Exceptional knowhow and professionalism from the bar tenders on duty. From their knowledge of top shelf bourbon to their friendly wit; they will help you find the right beverage to quench your thirst. Catch a game on their generous TV screens while you dine as they do serve the full menu at the bar; or throw down a few before you're escorted to your table... Once seated we were taken care of by a team of well trained and well informed servers, runners and general staff. Dressed in a 3 piece suit, our waiter helped us select the perfect wine from Phryme's extensive list of new and old-world wines; bringing both personal knowledge and samples to the table to help us out. The presentation of the food was only surpassed by its taste. I take my cow eating seriously - I don't enjoy poorly cooked beef -- Phryme lived up to its name... this meat is some of the best I have ever had. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food and there were clean plates all around. After a great meal there was little room for desert but we pushed ourselves over that abyss and ordered both deserts and coffee. The French Press was (as I expected) exceptional. The Crème brûlée was great and a perfect cap to a wonderful meal. If you're looking for an upscale dining experience in Tulsa, you can end your search with Phryme. I've been debating about writing this review for quite sometime. I told myself I would give it some time before I write the review just incase my thoughts evolved over the next several days. Unfortunately they have not evolved and so here I am. I decided I wanted to have my birthday dinner in early March at Phryme. Making the reservation was simple and I thought it was nice that they asked if this was a special occasion. I told them it was my birthday. Dinner time was set for 6:30pm and we arrived on time. We were greeted and taken to our table in the middle of the dining room. My first impression of the décor was bleh. It looks as if they just bought some corporate art and thru it on the walls. It was very dark which made reading the menu difficult even for someone in their Mid 30s let alone for my mother in her early 60s. We had to use the light app on our phones to read the menu. I understand the concept of a darkened space creating an ambiance but it was taken to a ridiculous level. As additional guest started to be seated I noticed how loud the space was. There was no acoustical considerations taken into account in the design from what I could see. All of the surfaces are hard surfaces and the sounds just bounces off of the wall. There was just a dull roar when the dinning room was full. To avoid hearing other peoples conversation they were playing instrumental music very loud over the speakers. I realized one of the sounds was the music to MGMT's Electric Feel. I know the song well and enjoy it but I highly doubt 90% of the people in there, except for the staff, even know who that is so I don't think it is appropriate. That's my take on the atmosphere. In regards to service, I don't have any complaints. When we sat down they brought a purse stool for my mom so her purse wasn't sitting on the floor. A nice touch but I think it might be a little much for Tulsa. The waiter was nice. The bus boys kept the plates clear and the water glasses full. Service is what you would expect in a place with prices like theirs. Now for the food. We ordered a shrimp cocktail and split the house chop salad. Very good shrimp and salad but that is pretty hard to screw up in my opinion. The sides were good. My mother ordered the small filet cooked medium. When it came out it looked good and tasted very good. I ordered from the 40 day dry aged selections. I've had plenty of 28 day dry aged beef and it is always excellent so I expected more of the same from a steak aged 40 days. I was very disappointed when my bone in strip cooked to medium rare arrived. First, it didn't look very good. It was a grey color and there wasn't really much in the way of grill marks. I cut into and it looked to be cooked to the correct temperature. When I took the first bite I had a flash back to my childhood. You have to remember that your sense of taste is directly tied to your sense of smell. And the smell I got was a stockyard. When I was small my dad would take me to the stockyards sometimes when it was time to buy another cow or pig or whatever. If you have never been to a stockyard you won't know what I'm talking about but a stockyard has a very distinctive smell. It is a combination of damp earth, urine, and animal feces. That first bite gave a the flashback of being at the stockyard with my dad. While those are happy times you don't want to be eating something that reminds you of dirt, piss, and shit. I choked the first bite done and tried a few others but it was just awful. My mom asked me how the steak was and I told her it tasted like a stockyard and was terrible. One of the bus boys was filling my water glass at the same time and overheard my comment. It seems he went to the manager and told him my comment and the manager came over. We spoke for a few minutes and he mentioned that a 40 day aged steak has a very strong flavor. While I agree that it should have a strong flavor I don't think it should taste like that. He offered to get me another steak and I decided on their 21 day wet aged ribeye. It came out of few minutes later and was a good steak. I didn't come there for a good steak. I came there for a great steak. I could have cooked a steak just as good or better at home. Buy the ribeye from Reasors, soak the mesquite wood chips, fire up the weber, and finish it off with a little duck fat. Simple and about $20 is what it would have cost. The last piece is the value and I don't think you get what you pay for at all. One appetizer, one salad, and two steaks totaled to $118 and that was with the cheaper steak price (they removed the 40 day disaster steak from the bill). There was no wine, no cocktails, and no desert. That is too high for what you are getting. I don't mind paying higher prices as long as it is quality (Nic's in Dallas is a good example of a place to drop some $ on high quality beef). Overall very disappointed. I will not return or recommend. read more

This was an excellent place to grab a steak. The food was delicious. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. The atmosphere is great to go out for a special dinner or anniversary. The wine list was good with many options to choose from. The service was good, unfortunately they over cooked our first steak so we had to wait for them to bring us another. Went to Prhyme for a special occasion dinner. Overall, good, not great. Here's a brief rundown of what we had: Amuse bouche: This was a blueberry compote with I believe a cheddar and a bit of bacon served on a small croistini. Delicious and creative mix of flavors. Crabcake appetizer: Very good; full of crab and not breading. Charcuterie platter: Very good; no real standouts but a solid appetizer. Whoever ran this to our table failed to explain what was on the plate. Major faux pas at a restaurant of this caliber IMO. Complimentary bread and butter: Not the kind of bread that has me scarfing it down before the meal, but I'm OK with that. I was very pleased to see butter was served room temp. Dry Aged Strip: Meh. Very little flavor and I had to cut through a surprising amount of fat that probably should have been trimmed before cooking. Prhyme Ribeye: Disappointing. Way too fatty, even for a ribeye, and not in the good marbled way. Half the steak was inedible. Neither steak was worth its hefty pricetag. Brussels sprouts: Very good; nice flavor and roasted perfectly. Mushrooms: Good but nothing to write home about. French fries: Good flavor (love that skins were left on), but they should have been served crispier and hotter. Onion rings: I pushed my husband to get these because I thought surely they must be something special if they're on the menu with a $60 steak. Nope. Just your average onion rings. I'd definitely pass on these next time. Prhyme Chocolate Pie: Very good if you love chocolate. I'd love it more if it were served with something to "cut" the intense chocolate flavor, like even a simple whipped cream. Service: Our server was sweet, but she seemed inexperienced. We had many lags in the meal, and I think Prhyme needs to step up its service game to complete with Mahogany for fine steakhouse dining. As you can see, we ordered a ton off the menu for only two people and spent over $300 with tip and alcohol. I don't think the steaks and service lived up to the $300 price tag, but I would by no means say we had a bad experience. read more

My husband and I dined here recently. So many people are just ga-ga over anything with the name Justin Thompson on it, but let me remind you, he was behind Duke's Southern Kitchen and we all see where that went. No one is perfect, and Prhyme is a good example of where Justin could improve and live up to his name. We found Prhyme to be very attractive in decor an perfect in ambiance. Coat check and hostess were professional and courteous. Waiters dressed in suits, but could use some uniformity. Some looked like thrift shop suits, and others looked expensive. In a place aiming to be on par with Ruth's Chris the waiters should be impeccably dressed. Our waiter was very professional in behavior, despite his cheap suit. The escargot appetizer was delicious - different from the traditional presentation and very nicely done. Good job! Potato soup was a let down. Caesar salad was nicely done, but the croutons had a distinct anise flavor - not good with a Caesar salad where garlic and anchovies rule the scene. However, I would probably recommend it minus the croutons. Steaks, while cooked to our preferred temperatures, were lacking that great sear we have come to expect on a perfectly cooked steak. There should be a slight crust on a steak. It should be crispy and caramelized on the outside but tender and juicy on the inside. It's not a tall order, and especially for the prices one pays at Prhyme. These steaks should be nothing less than perfection! This was the biggest disappointment of the evening. The Bearnaise sauce was a saving grace, but there really is no excuse. Perhaps they'll take some time to perfect their technique while the restaurant is still in its infancy. However, there are far better steakhouses in Tulsa at this point in time. We will wait and see - perhaps we'll return after they've survived a year or so. read more

Came to Phryme for my husbands birthday....bad idea. Service was the worst. I felt like we were not catered to at all. All the tables around us got great service, but not us. Maybe its because we are black. We waited 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order and another 20 to get those drinks. Then we waited over an hour before our food came out! And hour!!!!! Oh, and the refill of my drink took another 20 minutes. People that came in after us got their food WAY before us. And our server Joel, was less than negligent towards us. The ticket is over 200 bucks so to be treated as unimportant pisses me off. I haven't been treated like this in awhile. Needless to say I won't be back. read more

Went last night for the half price bar food (Monday and Tuesdays only)! What a deal! I got the southwest burger ($6) which had a delicious cheese blend and bacon and my husband got the steak frites. He LOVED his steak and said it was cooked to perfection. We got a few drinks that were definitely a little on the higher end but they were very good and the bartenders were very attentive. I'm not a penny pincher by any means but I had a 12oz filet, smashed potatoes, a cup of lobster bisque soup and a water, and walking out it was $87.17! I was by myself too, lol. After a fabulous second experience sitting in their bar area, I'm definitely a fan and would recommend to anyone to check out their half-price bar menu on both Mondays and Tuesdays from open to close. We ate off the bar menu Monday (half price). My wife had the street tacos and fried Mac and cheese, which were both good. Service was excellent, the reason for 3 stars was my food. I had the steak and fries and I thought the steak was a very poor quality (tough and fatty). It was cooked correctly (med rare) and well seasoned but that cut belongs at western sizzlin. If I had paid normal menu price ($25) for this meal I would have been very unhappy. I would go back but definitely try a different steak. read more

Last night our dinner was exquisite. The dessert and drinks were phenomenal. The courtesy valet service was much appreciated, as it was the first Friday art crawl and parking was scarce. But the staff couldn't keep our water glasses full. We were not the only ones, tables around us also discussed their dissatisfaction. We spent rather a large sum of money on that meal, it's annoying to have to repeatedly flag down staff to deal with the basics. We always choose to celebrate special occasions with Justin Thompson restaurants, and have never encountered this problem before. read more

My S.O. and I selected Phryme for our Valentine's Day dinner. Based on the reviews, the menu and the price range, I was expecting a trendier version of Mahogany. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. On the bright side, the experience got progressively better, but the first impression was not the best. I called about a month in advance to make a reservation for 8pm. When we arrived there was another couple at the host stand. When a third couple arrived we moved to the side just a bit so they could be step inside out if the cold. After seating the first couple, the host skipped us and moved on to the third couple. The hostess caught the error and shot him look intended to point out the mistake. The host was inconsistent in offering to hang coats. Mine eventually ended up on the seat beside me, but not before he attempted to seat us in the bar area. My S.O. objected and asked for a table in the main dining area. The host was gone for a bit and seated another party before returning to offer us a different table. He explained that when I booked (a month ago) I should have been informed that only bar seating was available. However, a couple who didn't have a reservation was seated at the table next to us, so I wasn't buying his explanation, but chose not to point this out at the time. Our server arrived impeccably dressed. He was polite and kept our wine glasses full, although the wine we selected was only so-so. We had the chilled seafood presentation for our appetizer. At $25 per person, it was really a disappointment. Excepting the oysters, I could have easily prepared the plate myself, in fact, the presentation looked like I had done it myself. The food was arranged around the rim of a bowl and each time we tried to select a bite it took two hands. One to select the bite, the other to balance the bowl and keep it from tipping over. We choose brown butter seared sea scallops and seared king salmon filet for our entrees. My S.O. was quite pleased with the scallops and the accompaniments. My salmon was cooked nicely, but I was not a fan of the quinoa and root vegetable salad as I found the vegetables to be chewy. This ruined the texture of the dish. Dessert, a chocolate midnight cake, was by far the best part of the meal. Chocolate cake, vanilla bean ice cream, amaretto caramel, topped with a chocolate sauce poured table side. Delicious! A sweet ending to a lackluster meal. Conclusion: Not bad, but not worth the price. If I had received the same food and service at a moderately priced chain restaurant, I'd have been happy. But at a pricey, boutique restaurant I was expecting some wow factor and it just wasn't there. Next time I'll pass on Phryme in favor of Mahogany or Bodeans for a special occasion or choose Flemings or Bonefish for a nice date night. read more

What a disappointment this was! Althought the atmosphere is elegant the food is just not up to it. The restaurant specializes in beef and yet the three people who ordered it at my table were grossly disappointed! I ordered the scallops which were delicious, but the filet's and the Kobe beef were terrible. The meat was dry and in the case of the Kobe it was Tough and had to be sent back and the filet that was substituted was not juicy at all. I don't know where they're sourcing their beef but they need to do something QUICK! Also, the prices are OUTRAGEOUS! Without alcohol, dinner was over $300.00 for 4 people. read more

My wife and I dined here on 15 April. Wife had the seared Salmon and I had the NY Strip steak. It was the BEST steak I have had in more than a decade. Perfectly seasoned, beautiful Char & melt in your mouth! Wife raved about the Salmon as well. Recommend this restaurant to anyone near Tulsa! Bring some $$ though. read more
