Iced latte (12 oz)
Brianna C.

Pretty solid latte! No complaints here. I think they use a darker roast, which I prefer. Love that they roast their own beans! The coffee shop is in the lobby of a fancy apartment complex. Very nice! Lots of chairs and seating. Service was good.

matcha latte and dirty matcha
Carmen Y.

Progeny Coffee is cafe with stylist decor, open space, and relaxing ambiance. It's a great spot to hang out and catch up with friends. My friend and I both ordered matcha drinks - dirty matcha and matcha oat latte and both were very tasty. During the hour or so we spent there, we saw residents from the building come and go, the baristas knew many of their names and greeted them. The staff were warm and friendly. I looked up their website after and learned that they work directly with small local farmers in Colombia and is a farmer-led company. Love their mission and the impact they aim to drive! Will def be back here or to check out their other location by civic center.

Chai

Super cute spot inside of an apartment complex. The staff are always so nice and friendly. The mushroom shaped ice is a fun touch too. I got the chai and was a little disappointed to learn that there's no dairy free option since there's milk in the chai base, I think they said it was powder. It did taste a little grainy and was too milky for my taste. The pastries are ok, but I think they're known for their coffee.

I think this is a super pretty cafe with great ambiance. I was a little disappointed in their drinks unfortunately. I got a matcha latte that was way too milky. And i also got a normal iced latte which was also pretty milky. I wish cafes would stop putting drinks in larger cups and just keep the right proportions. The espresso taste wasn't coming out and all i tasted was milk in both drinks. ):

Matcha Latte

This review is specifically for the matcha!! I'm sure their coffee is way better! Small cafe within an apartment building! They have super nice natural lighting with huge windows. They have a couple small tables and a counter area to work on. Limited outlets for WFH but more of a space to yap for a bit. My friend and I got the Matcha Latte and Blueberry Matcha; both were very mediocre. Blueberry syrup definitely was yummy but overpowered the entire drink. The regular Matcha Latte just tasted like milk :(. This place is known for coffee so I probably just got the wrong thing!

After joining a run club at 8am by the Chase Center and putting in a few miles, I thought it'd be a good idea to cross off a new coffee shop on my list since we were in the area. Iced Blueberry Latte - This was very refreshing especially after a run. The blueberry was very subtle. Only feedback is too much ice Ube mochi muffin? - taste was bland, texture could've been better Overall, love the decor. Service was great.

Came by Sunday morning for a quick latte and cappuccino and was surprise at how nice the area was! I ordered an Iced Banana Latte with a cappuccino and total was around $11 after everything. Asked if there was a resident discount but the barista said the discount is included in the prices. Ordered came out fairly quickly and when I tasted the banana latte, it tasted pretty burnt with a minor sweet taste. Couldn't really tell if it was banana or chocolate. The building it's in is very fancy with lots of mirrors, cool place to work. Overall, not sure if I'd come back since it's out of the way but willing to try again if I'm in the area.

A brand new cafe inside the lobby area of the Landing (a new apartment complex). I came on a Saturday morning and it was quite busy! I got the Banana Latte since it was seasonal and they make their syrups in house. It wasn't too sweet and tasted like real banana (there are clumps)! However it was $8 which is really steep, even for a flavored drink. I'd definitely come back to chill if I was in the area.

The staff are super friendly, the drinks and pastries are very tasty, and the space is open and filled with natural light--what's not to love? I got an iced blueberry latte. The coffee was very smooth with a very subtle blueberry flavor that I quite enjoyed. My husband got a regular latte, which was also very yummy. In terms of pastries, we ordered got the babka and kouign amann. Both were yummy, although I still prefer B patisserie for my kouign amann. One drawback is that they currently serve all of their drinks in to-go cups, and so we brought our own mugs/cups since we planned to stick around and get some work done for a couple of hours. I would love to come back and try their other drink offerings if I'm ever back in the area!

My bestie actually shared this place to me to share with our other coworker, since they had blueberry matcha lattes! The second she did, we ended up scheduling a matcha excursion to try this place out. Progeny Coffee is located inside a residential apartment unit, and it's tucked in the corner with beautiful decor and such a modern look to it! There are side tables on the right side with bleacher style seats with pillows OR there is seating outside if you prefer that. The menu was pretty short and sweet, in addition to the pastries they had there. My coworkers and I decided to try the iced blueberry matcha latte w/ oatmilk ($8.50) and I did also get a blueberry latte with almond milk ($8.50) for another coworker. I also got a Babka for $5.50 Total for everything was around $22.50 before tip! REVIEW OF EACH ITEM: -Iced Blueberry Matcha with Oatmilk - I thought this might be a good combination and it was! I thought the blueberry would overpower the matcha, but it adds quite a subtle blueberry flavor to it. The matcha itself was very smooth and not grainy at all. It was a good pick me up without having TOO much caffeine and I do appreciate how much you get in a cup! I always say - you can always add extra blueberry if you want more of a stronger taste! It does go away once you mix it up. 4/5 -Babka: WOW THIS WAS SO GOOD. I devoured this INSTANTLY because of how good it was! It was just a super fresh, chewy bun that was not overly sweet at all. I believe it had chocolate running throughout, which was so good. Not dry at all!! 5/5 -Iced Blueberry Latte: I got to try a sip of the coffee and I liked it! I didn't taste much of the strawberry, but the coffee was strong and slightly bitter which was delicious. I'll have to order this next time or try the banana latte! 4/5 Definitely a cute cafe nestled in an apartment complex! I'll have to try more items on their menu and support this business :') The quality of coffee and tea is great!

Love this cafe so much! Their dedication and commitment to their farmers is unmatched. They partner directly with farmers, focusing on those facing challenges, and reward their hard work by paying equitably and above fair trade pricing which is incredible! You can really tell by their coffee selections and the owners' vast knowledge of coffee, where and WHO they were sourced from, and so much more. Also, the owners are some of the sweetest people ever. Ever since I came in before they were opening to chat coffee (since I love coffee myself and make a lot of home cafe videos on social media), I always get the warmest smile and greeting every single time I visit. Such a joy speaking with them! Of course their brewed coffee is so good. I've tried their espresso standalone, drip, flat white, macchiato - all amazing. I just treated myself to a Sunday iced blueberry latte and it was incredible - perfect balance of blueberry, coffee, milk - all working together so harmoniously well. Love the vibes too! Great music, decent seating as they share the space with an apartment complex, and wonderful baristas (ALL of them, not just the owners, are so great to talk with). Great and much needed addition to SF, despite the abundance of coffee shops in Dogpatch, Progeny stands out :)

Iced Blueberry Latte

I decided to stop here on the way to work this morning. This coffee shop is located in the Dogpatch/Potrero Hill area, and the whole neighborhood looks newly developed. The shop is inside The Landing apartments' lobby, and I found parking on the next street over. When I walked inside, I was greeted with a hello/welcome and a warm smile. Since I came pretty early, there was only one person in front of me. I ordered an iced Blueberry Latte with almond milk. They didn't charge extra for alternative milk, which was nice. On the first sip, I could really taste the coffee. I loved that the coffee wasn't masked by the milk or blueberry syrup. If it did, it wouldn't be a good coffee. The blueberry syrup was very yummy and blended well with the coffee. However, if I could change one thing, I would ask for less sweet next time, even if that means less syrup. The drink was just a little too sweet for me. Overall, great coffee shop!

Orange Blossom Espresso Tonic: Requested no ice
Rose T.

Located in the lobby of The Landing Apartments, this is a new addition to the Potrero Hill coffee scene. I came by in the morning and there was no line. Most people come here for the Blueberry Latte, but what drew me here was the Espresso Tonic. Originating in 2007 at a Swedish café, this is the caffeinated, non-alcoholic cousin to the classic Gin & Tonic. In addition to the plain version, there were 2 floral ones just in time for spring. The rose one had my name on it, but I chose the Orange Blossom Espresso Tonic ($4.75) instead since I don't see that flavor often. +Refreshing and balanced: Not too acidic or sweet. +Espresso was smooth and had notes of chocolate. +Foam was airy and creamy even though no dairy was added! +No upcharge for no ice -I couldn't taste the orange blossom at first, but it came through after the 1st few sips. Side notes: 1.) Comfy indoor seating and uncovered outdoor seating 2.) Walking distance from 22nd Street Caltrain Station *Verdict: 4.5 stars rounded up to 5. I had some questions about the menu, and the cashier helping me was patient. The barista was friendly too and he asked me to let him know how it was. I love their mission to support Colombian coffee farmers. I'll be back to try their Rose Espresso Tonic!

I'm always hunting for spots like this because I have a weakness for those over-the-top, Instagram-worthy desserts that look like diabetes in a dish. Like most places in this genre, A Buttercup is small, modern, and minimalist with limited seating. If you plan to go, aim for off-hours unless you enjoy waiting in line for sugar. The decor is cute and trendy, perfect for photos if that's part of your dessert ritual. As they say, "you eat with your eyes first," and when it comes to presentation, this place definitely gets an A+. The desserts look stunning and set high expectations. Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

The line went pretty fast on a Wednesday evening, but I can't imagine what it's like on a weekend. There's a bit of seating inside to enjoy your ice cream. They let you try three flavors, and I tried two, and both were so good I just decided on the spot. My first sample was the Salty Kaya. WOW. Heaven in my mouth. A burst of coconut and the saltiness that paired so well together. There's a reason this flavor has a permanent spot on the menu and isn't just a seasonal flavor! My second choice was the Funky Miso. I guess I love the sweet and savory combo. Also delicious! But not quite the flavor explosion in my mouth like the Salty Kaya. This one really grew on me after several spoonfuls of it. I really like that the single scoop allows you to get two flavors. How can I decide on just one when they have so many fun flavors?? I love this spot and will absolutely be returning. My favorite is when they have their melon flavors, and I was so excited to see cantaloupe back this week! It was just as good as I remembered... fresh, creamy, fruity, and not overly sweet. Their flavors are creative without feeling gimmicky, and everything I've tried has been yummy. They let you sample up to 3 flavors, which definitely helps when you're trying to decide between all the seasonal options. There's usually a pretty long line but it moves fast so I've never felt like I was waiting too long. The staff is always friendly, and the whole experience is worth it.
