New place so decided to try it. The atmosphere was interesting-not great seating layout. Our waiter Tyler was very nice. We started with fried Oakra, deviled eggs and smoked trout dip. The ok was ok but the other two apps were very bland and tasteless. Our entrees were two salads, a shrimp dish and smoked club sandwiches. Again, food was very bland. This was a nice place to dine. The oysters on the half shell were fresh, the wedge salad was filling, and the bowl of gumbo was hearty. I wished I had taken photos but I was hungry and inhaled the food as it arrived. The ambiance was nice and romantic. If you like southern comfort food you should try this on date night. read more

Just okay! We love Marcus' other restaurants so we had high expectations for this one and unfortunately it fell short. We started with the skillet cornbread - nothing special and burnt in several places. My husband got a cup of the gumbo soup and once he got past the intense smoke flavor he liked it. For our entrees, we ordered the chicken fried steak and steak frites. I enjoyed the chicken fried steak, but my husband did not like his steak frites. The inside was cooked accordingly, however the outside was so charred he could only taste the burnt flavor. The fries were great - slightly salty but I guess that is better than under-seasoned. Provender Hall has a great atmosphere, but we will stick to Piattello and Clay Pigeon. read more

Just wanted to let you know that my wife and I dined at your restaurant on 4/15, while we were in town for our 35th wedding anniversary. Your food and drinks were great( especially the country fried steak) but what are experience special, was the great service provided by Angie! She did such a great job, and even wrote a small "Happy Anniversary " note on our receipt. We dine out a lot , and great service is very hard to find these days. We really appreciate it, when it happens, and try to let management know. We both worked in the restaurant industry, and know that most of the contacts are based on bad experiences. Really cool concept. Liked the old time feel of the place. Cool spot!! The beef rib was kind of avg. the bark lacked flavor. Wife said same thing about the shrimp and grits. I had the steak frites and was pretty tasty. Definitely skip the corn bread appetizer very bland and not exciting at all. I have had much better skillet corn breads around town. Fried green tomatoes were pretty good. Overall wasn't wowed by anything. It was a really busy night and the stock yards were packed with American Rodeo in town. First thing you need to understand is this place is LOUD and when you add in LOUD stockyard folks it's a super loud and not at all a place for a quiet meal for 2. All concrete inside needs some serious acoustic help...good Covid protocols with masks etc. based on Covid there are no paper menus for wine list and poor reception due to location so QR never worked. Paper menus for the meal thankfully. Would suggest paper wine lists as the pours were not cheap and at $15 pours id like to know what I'm buying. 1/2 Smoked chicken with baked potato was good enough, potato luke warm; shrimp and grits had very fresh well done shrimp..too much gravy drowned the grits. Over all we checked out the New place but not a terrific reason to return just nothing super special at the end of the day + $20 parking. read more

I wish I could write a higher review, but my experience at Provender was dictated the moment I came to the hostess stand. The woman at front was so short and uncompassionate; while I understand that my whole party (4/6 were here had not arrived yet due to the crazy stockyard traffic during graduation and Cowtown weekend, the hostess did not make it easier. Even after mentioning that my parents would be here in less than five minutes, she refused to sit us down and had no soft skills to even say it in a kind way. Little did I know she was the manager. It was late and around 9:45pm and being in the service industry, I wanted to get an order order in before the kitchen closed, but she assured me and my party that they weren't closing anytime soon with how busy they were. I waited for my party to come, and she calls my cell, saying that my table was going to be cancelled and the kitchen was closing if I didn't arrive. Mixed messages. Short and uncompassionate. It was appalling. Here's what I will say--our server Matt was amazing. He was hard working, kind, and delivered a service and food that was really delicious. Food was amazing. Provender has great potential in a great location with great food. However, the manager made such a rude first impression that was inconsiderate and uncaring of the situation at hand. I've never written a review, but this is something that I believe needs to be improved on enough to be called out on. I hope this is healthily digested and then worked on because I truly believe Provender has great potential. read more

Great restaurant with a fun atmosphere! Good location as it's right off of Mule Alley in the stockyards. The Fried Green Tomato and Skillet Cornbread were amazing appetizers, highly recommend and perfect for sharing. The Steak Frites was good with great French fries, but I'm not a fan of chimchurri topping on the steak. Our waitress was pretty short with us and in a hurry to turn tables, but other than that it was a great meal and I would go again! read more

The three stars are for the hostess and wait staff. The venison tartare was good, the sourdough had a nice smoky flavor to it, but there was acid missing that I added from a small squeeze of lemon. The house cab was nice and fruity but for $15 a glass it was a short pour. The strip steak was a disappointment for $45. There was non rendered fat and silver skin running through the steak. A portion was not edible and had to be spit out. The mashed potatoes were good and seasoned nice. Added to the steak made it better. The peach crisp was nice but they did not state that there were nuts in it which was not a welcome addition. read more

Spot on! It's brave to take on "mama's cooking" with fried green tomatoes and chicken fried steak but they pulled it off! I was waiting to be disappointed but it never came! Took my husband here to celebrate his birthday last month. While the atmosphere and location were spot on, the food fell short. Drinks were marginal, his chicken fried steak was lackluster; the only highlight was the Pimento Cheese appetizer! Came here after Ático with the family on a Sunday evening. We wanted to try it because we had heard good things and a good oyster happy hour. Unfortunately oyster happy hour wasn't going on on Sunday but that's ok. So. We were seated upstairs. Ambiance was sort of odd and it was definitely noisy, almost like you're in the second story of a classy barn. We ordered a bottle of wine and some cocktails. All tasty. Then, we ordered some tartare (not too shabby) and oysters (small and tasty mignonette). For entree, we got the shrimp and grits, trout, and red fish. I think 3 of us got shrimp n grits and then one of each of the fish. They were all fairly good but no standouts. While it was a cool experience at the stockyards, I'm not sure we will be back to Provender as it just didn't really do it for us. At the end of the night, I remember thinking that maybe I would come alone and sit at the downstairs bar and see how that vibe is. read more

Upon initial arrival, atmosphere was decent, but after being seated, it was very cold in the restaurant. So dress warmly if you go when it's cold. Food was subpar at best. Porkskins were the best food we had. I had the skirt steak with fries. Steak was medium(as ordered) in the absolute middle and medium well - to - well on the ends. The outside was CHARRED which gave the whole steak an off taste. The fries were the best part. Hand cut, cooked perfectly. Wife had the Shrimp with farro salad. Farro was decent, nothing to write home about, shrimp was over cooked and tasteless. One friend had the shrimp & grits. Shrimp again always over cooked and tasteless, grits were also tasteless and had a pasty consistency. Service started off great, but after we ordered, we only saw the waitstaff twice. One, when the food was delivered and once when it was time to bus the plates. My husband was planning to surprise me with a dinner here for my birthday and after leaving voicemails, attempting to make a reservation on resy, then getting a reservation through their social media (which never confirmed), we are now stuck without any other option since we are so close to the date with no dinner reservation. We tried 3 different ways to make a reservation and then thought we got one and they never wrote it down so we are now without one. We were so excited to try this place but am already not interested after this horrible experience. I don't usually like to go the extra mile to write a bad review but I have to tell you, we came for drinks with around 10-20 friends. The place and ambiance is great but that's about it. The service was so horrible. We probably spent an average of $100 per person and even with this they made us all feel like we were a bother. From the hostess to the waiting staff. They kept pointing and being bothered with every ask. So I'm sorry, if I'm gonna spend $100+ on a single steak at your restaurant I expect to be treated nicely. This is the first review I have ever written but thought it was necessary. Unfortunately, this was the worst dining experience I've had in years. Our expectations were high as we love Clay Pigeon. To their credit, the atmosphere is fantastic and the decor and finish out are remarkable. However, the service was horrendous. They were completely disorganized and painfully slow. More importantly, the food was below average. I'm not going to go into detail on each talking point, I will just say our night was a bust. We had a guest in town and the night just didn't go as we had hoped. Possibly just caught them on a tough night but we will stick with Clay Pigeon as I know the quality and experience will be excellent. read more
