We have had a unit here since October 2011 - the manger Helena seemed nice and we thought because of the gate codes, cleanliness and video that it would be secure - it is not secure at all. Last week we were notified that something about our unit door "did not look right" and when we went there we discovered that most of our things had been stolen - our lock was intact and somehow the latch mechanism had been removed - which is odd seeing as how it bolts from the inside of the door, and the door itself was not damaged. Apparently only our Unit was affected, even though it is not close to the exit doorway and is the third unit down the hallway. The staff were not helpful at all and were far more interested in immediately fixing the lock than waiting until we could have the police take a look. We now find out that the video camera is only at the gate entrance and there are NO other cameras on site. We have also been made aware that there have been quite a few burglaries here. We would not recommend this location to anyone - check out your storage site and try to find one with individual door alarms, or multiple video cameras at least. read more

BEWARE!!!! This ladies seem nice but they are just after your money. When I got my storage unit Helena said I had to get the insurance. I had a feeling this was wrong but I was in a hurry so I let it go. When I gave my 30 days notice I spoke to another lady who's name I can't remember she told me all I would have to do is give my keys to them before I leave. I even asked if that was it and they said she said yes. I was on auto payment which they took me off of without telling me. Not until the 12th of the month do I get and email saying I missed a payment and that I own this month and the next month, WTF. When I went in there both ladies were working. Helena said I had to pay the late charge and that she told me when I first got my storage. Seriously that was six months prior, crazy lady. I asked why I didn't get a call and she said I did which I didn't the first call I got was on the 13th. Such unnecessary bs from this lady. I really hope she gets what's coming to her. read more

I recently emptied my storage unit after 3 years. My things were safely secured & I never had to worry about the cond. I'd find my belongings in. I would like to acknowledge the staff as they were always courteous & professional to me. Laura especially is a sweet & wonderful girl that was always helpful & pleasant to talk with. While the storage premises seem clean and it's a relatively new place, the personnel that work there are not too savvy, knowledgeable or helpful to put it politely. I recommend taking your business to another location that actually has competent customer service. There are carts available to use but they are locked to the wall, and can only be accessed via a key in the office so you can't use the carts after the office workers leave. Sadly, they're not even courteous enough to go and give you your Identification back (they require something to give you a key to the lock to the carts) before closing the doors and going home for the day so my girlffriend had no license for a day. DO NOT REWARD POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE- GO TO A BUSINESS THAT CARES. read more

The place has great service. I only give 1 star because I got a climate controlled unit, and for some reason certain days It gets Burning hot because even my tape was melting on the boxes. And sometimes I keep some gifts here that is hard candies fully sealed. And the heat melts it entirely, even my house doesn't make that happen. One day it's freezing cold one day it's scorching hot. I hope they fix this and keep it actually controlled at least at room temperature or cooler, Regularly, like I pay for. Besides that the employees are great. And they raise rent 20% every 3-6 months I just found out. They can raise it whenever they want. read more

Bad lay out at location on Shirley ave in back of Northridge mall (LA). You have to park in front of the door to someone else's outside storage. There is no nearby parking. The entrance to the elevator area is on an incline. You have to be careful your stuff doesn't fall out of the cart The office is far from the elevator which is where most people bring there stuff. To get to the office, you have to go through a storage area, so you have to enter your code one too many times to get there for my taste. There is a lack of signage to help you get to the office I told an employee that and she insisted in a dry tone there was a sign. She said it was on the wall, but that was the sign before the last two turns. I showed her, she didn't say something nice like, "I'll be sure to let management know". The guy who signed us up had a smug, quiet, apathetic attitude. He didn't even say, "I'll be right with you," when we were waiting to sign up. His demeanor is that of a cop, not customer service. Long story short, we canceled. The employee's attitude had a lot to do with it We've only had the unit a week and we didn't start moving things till today. By now it's the second day of the next month, which we paid for in advance. We don't get that backm They charge month to month, no prorate Around $147 down the toilet. Zero retention effort. No apology Another thing: We had a storage in Glendale, way better access to everything and super sweet staff. However, they continually jacked up the price until it was $210 for a 5×10. No loyalty program there. On the contrary, the longer you have your stuff there, the more your stuff accumulates and the more dependent you become.. If the demand goes up, so does the price. If you don't want to pay it, they have someone waiting in line. That's how it works. Public Storage needs a strong competitor. read more

The place is very good for a storage place. It is well lit and very secure. I have nevery had any issues with respect to security and any time of day or night. The staff is very friendly and helpful especially Helena. I have had my stuff there for about 12 years now and never had any problems. I had book a public storage at a different location, but they had some hidden fees there. I just went in tried to visit the place, but the property manager Helen was very helpful and pleasent to do business with. It made my storage experience much better than anticipated. This location is right next to the Northridge mall and the movie theater. I will rated again when I finish my storage rental here, to verifying weather or not I had a great experience. read more

I really would like to give 1 star but Im a nice person, First of all I rented a 10x18 drive up unit and the next day before I moved anything into it I asked if there was any others available that are not on a dead end aisle. The lady said I had to pay the rent for the new one and I could not transfer. I didnt even put a lock on it yet. My 2nd complaint is that I am paying $385. per month for 7 months now and only this month I was late and the balance was $498. insane! I called the 800 number and his records show that I have been paying $385 but there was a rent increase that is now $438. more insane. But I check my account at public storage and it says next months rent is $385. I dont understand this. There should be some notification if there is to be a rent increase. The 3rd complaint is that the gate access hours have been reduced, weekdays till 6pm and weekends til 5pm. So the rent increases and the gate hours get reduced and its summer time when the days are longer. All the other public storages nearby still have the 9pm access time. I wont even talk about the roach problem in the units, when I ask the maintenence guy he says they are waterbugs. I dont like crawling things around my feet. The place used to be better but things have took a turn and I have been seeing a lot of people moving out recently. my suggestion is shop around and get your payments locked in before signing anything. Not very professional. They have made it very personal. I have experienced discrimination on a number of occasions since I am Black. So many issues with staff this location. They advertise $1 first month, but its not true! The unit they gave me has no handle for the light switch! With all the money I pay this is something small. I would always find dirt at my unit yet others were clean! There is a woman who is always ready for a fight! I have learned to ignore her. Two weeks ago I was there when it was growing dark. Good thing there was a man at another unit nearby. 3 different men at different times were riding bicycles around. I felt threatened since they would go and come back. It is gated so how does this happen? Anyway it grew dark and the other unit owner started his car, I also jumped in mine and followed him. read more
