I had to move a whole bunch of stuff on short notice. I reserved a van super late the night before and was uneasy about it since it was last minute. Thankfully it went through so definitely reserve online first! I showed up bright and early as soon as they opened, which you should too (the line quickly forms and grows in size by the minute). Pick-up was a breeze and I was on the road within minutes. Dropping off the van was ok as well, but by then there was a traffic log so it was slightly chaotic of people dropping off vs. people trying to park inside the lot to pick up. Speaking of which, park on the street if you can because if you park inside the lot you'll get stuck for a while. Overall my first experience with renting a U-Haul was a pretty good one (apart from being sore as hell, but that's on me with my move). They open fairly early too so it's a good location for early birds. read more

Great price and great service. Had hitch installed on my Subaru but it was a very tight fit and noticed that exhaust was banging against hitch and causing noise. Brought it back and Ben worked on it, grinding away at hitch but still made noise. Took two more tries and replacing the rubber exhaust hangers to finally fix it. I bought the hangers myself and Ben installed them for free. Then I noticed I got a refund for the price of the hangers! Without asking , without receipt, they just refunded it to be nice. That is unheard of these days. I would certainly recommend Uhaul for trailer hitch installation! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. This is hands down the worst experience I've ever had with a storage facility. Not only was I screamed at by one of the staff members (who clearly gets off on power-tripping), but they also locked me out of my fully paid unit with no notice whatsoever. I showed up to move my belongings and found the code had been changed. No call, no email--just locked out of my own property. Let's be clear: I paid for that unit. I don't care if all I had in there was a cotton ball--it was mine. And someone else was given access or it was reassigned without my permission. Completely unethical. Access is granted at random times, nothing is consistent, and it's definitely not what's advertised. This person picks and chooses who gets in and when. It's unprofessional, sketchy, and flat-out disrespectful. And the fact that U-Haul as a franchise allows smucks like this to represent their brand? Honestly pathetic. It's a terrible look and bad for business. I will never rent a U-Haul truck or storage unit again. I'd rather lick a doorknob at a COVID motel than give this company another dime. Moving is a pain in the neck. From renting a U-haul, buying boxes, packing your stuff and getting people to help you out. Ugh!!! This branch helped me a ton. They work with you and give support. Customer service is understatement. They do a routine inspection on the storage units to make sure they are properly maintained and safe, then call the customer if something is off - like if the lock isn't the right one, etc. Returning Uhaul Vans or dolly is no hassle. They have a space inside the storage building allocated for stuff that renters do not need but can be donated. Cool!! read more

This location handled my initial U-Haul reservation but then apparently gave away the moving dolly I had reserved a month prior, all on the night before my 9:00 AM Saturday move. This mistake ultimately cost wasted time for 6 people and it cost me more money then I had already paid U-Haul for this rental. While I appreciate this location's effort to provide an alternate solution to ensure a dolly was included with my truck, they could have simply set the dolly aside. That is the point of a reservation in the first place... and it would have saved me from many more issues during this move. The backup location was in a less desirable neighborhood and rented me a truck with three major tangible issues. To top it all off, there was still NO DOLLY in the truck, which forced me to go to a Home Depot to purchase one. Driving in a U-Haul truck to that Home Depot netted a lot of undesirable attention. I was approached by at least a dozen workers soliciting moving help while both entering and exiting the store. My girlfriend handled the situation well, but she was visibly uncomfortable. I ended up having to purchase a dolly that I didn't need beyond this move, all because this location failed to honor a reservation I made a month prior. And still, I made three attempts with U-Haul to find a resolution before considering posting anything online. That only made things worse. Ultimately after 3 different attempts to communicate, U-Haul's representatives valued all this time and trouble at no more than $50. I would have gladly paid more than that to avoid putting my girlfriend in that situation. I did pay to rent a dolly, only to end up spending $175 on buying one. Not to mention the time of friends and family and arriving late at the destination. Gladly, I don't foresee needing to deal with this place again, and I surely wouldn't trust them to uphold a reservation no matter how far in advance it's made. read more

So i have been a U-Haul customer for 13 years!(4-8) times a year. And I never even quoted other companies when i needed similar service. In January I rented a van PURCHASED INSURANCE! When i returned it they told me i have damaged their roof because the new yellow stick they have is broken (which it was) So I told them guys I only used ot on a highway to pick something up in LAX but yes I did park it under the tree thats why that plastic stick is broken ( which I found under that tree next to my house. I told them that i have insured the vehicle. The manager informed me that ROOF DAMAGE IS EXCLUDED and it is a $150 penalty for that. $10 insurance on a$20 a day van doesn't cover it head to toes. So I called their customer service etc... they gave me a case number and that it is up to the branch manager to make the decision to void the fee or not. (I was honestly sure they did) there you go two weeks later i need a van, and pretty much from the same branch! Who wants to guess am I going to go to U haul or find another company? DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION! I have used Uhaul throughout the years for small and large moves and have never experience what I had happen to me here. I felt they may be running some kind of scam on customers and clearly by these yelp reviews that is the case. I will be looking into is they are corporate or franchised and going to better business bureau. I arrived at 9 am and picked up a cargo van to transport a dining room set. I never parked the vehicle under a structure as it was a very quick simple two hour move. I filled the gas and returned it just as it was given to me with zero incidents. Literally within minutes of my arrival they came out claiming I had damaged the top of the van which would have been impossible because I wasn't anywhere that something like that could have occurred. Certainly if I had done anything I would have definitely paid for it with no issues but I was in complete shock because it was impossible. The man was rude and called me a liar basically. when I went inside I low key flipped out because I was so pissed and they ended up leaving it alone. Based on what I see here they are able to clock a lot of extra money by creating a false damage or the appearance of that. Take my advice and go elsewhere. read more

The storage itself was alright and convenient. They claimed no bugs or rodents would be in the units. I found tons of bugs in mine and they seem to be hopping from other units. I had clothes put away in secure bags and those bugs chewed right through them and ate into expensive clothes. The cleaning lady always speaks rudely about customers infront of customers, she thinks just because she says it in spanish that no one will understand her, well we did and we told her to stop as it was rude af. Im sorry we are putting our things for donation for other families to use and you dont want to do your job. The "owner" Juan was rude to my husband stating they dont offer military rates (for trailers) & spoke condesendingly to him on memorial day. Only to be shown on their very website that there is in fact military rates. There has been times we needed something from storage around 8pm and their system was fully down. Manager was called and nothing ever came about. Overall, we decided to move out fully cause alot of my items were damaged by these bugs they have in their unit. Don't even bother calling, I have tried numerous times of the day and night and it's always a 20 minute wait for a rep to pick up the phone. Don't lose your key to your lock either because they will make you hire a locksmith and they want to be there to inspect the job while the lock is being removed. They will not allow you to use bolt cutters or to drill the lock out yourself.... they raise the prices every single year and I think I started off at $99 and I'm at 130 now after 5 years. they let the day laborers hang out on the property and bug people as they drive in and out to try and get hired. The only reason I give them two stars is because the units are climate controlled. Manager doesn't care about the complaints at all.... read more

The email pickup location ended up being a different location from where the rep told me I would pickup from. No biggie it was nearby. I arrive at 7am and follow their long and tedious pickup process instructions on my phone. It didnt work. I could not gain access after an hour of standing by the truck number i was assigned. Furthermore, do not answer their phones nor respond to multiple customer service requests to correct issues. As a result, if you want to fix anything, you have to report to credit card payment disputes, BBB disputes, and reviews like this. Prior to going to U-Haul I went to a trailer hitch specialist and was told that they would not be able to install the hitch that my car required. When I called U-Haul they told me they would have to special order the part but that they could install the specific hitch for my car. Such an amazing store in a convenient for your challenging times (when moving)! They are very nice and understanding. The truck that I rented was towed and I had to return it 3 hours later, but the staff member whose name was Ray was very nice and sincere, he did not charge for an extra day. He understood how my day was and helped me as much as he could. I also lost my credit card and driver license and they were all looking for it, did everything they could and you name it. Strongly recommend this place if you need rental trucks and more. I made a reservation over the phone and this location failed to let us know we had to pay for safe store insurance.. We were forced to purchase their insurance. They also failed to informed us that we had to purchase a round lock because they don't accept other types of locks. They also failed to inform us that 24 hour access is only for businesses. They tried to accommodate our 24 hours after we complained but by then it was too late we had already used our money to get the insurance. As a consumer I had options with other companies but was robbed to do business elsewhere because they failed to inform us of all those things. What would have happened had I not had that insurance money? Where would I unload my things? Drive around and put more miles on the u-haul? First and foremost, I want to be the manager at this U-Haul. He has many weeks of vacation. How do I know this? Because when we called to complain, he's been on vacation for about 3 weeks now. Did they ask us WHY we wanted to talk to a manager? No. Did they offer us an assistant manager? No Did we have to go elsewhere and spend over $200 having the work done on our car for our tow hitch? YES!!!!!!!!!!! I would NEVER go to this UHaul AGAIN. Do not go there. We went back to have them check the work and they said their work was done right. When we had the work on our trailer hitch checked elsewhere, they remembered us as the car with the "really messed up wiring." Great... U-Haul left us with no towbar, no options, and not much more than "sorry"... Luckily, a random customer in line helped us find Precision Trailer Hitches and Welding, who were able to do the job that same day when no one else would. We drove 600 miles to buy an RV in the Los Angeles area. I had called Uhaul in Northridge at least half a dozen times to confirm that they had the correct towbar and brackets for a very basic procedure: Put a towbar on our Jeep Wrangler so we could tow it home with our new RV. Each time I spoke with someone who assured us they had the equipment and confirmed our appointment time. There was no room for error in my schedule since we had to be home that same day..... I should have known better than to trust UHaul with something so basic. When we arrived, the girl behind the counter said "Oh wow, a towbar. We don't do many of these." ...Not something you want to hear from a pace that supposedly specializes in hitches. Then, we were told our appointment was pushed back by over an hour because the truck in front of us had "complications". After waiting *several* hours, UHaul finally informed us they couldn't even put the towbar on (what the heck were they doing all that time???) because they didn't have the right brackets. They also said they couldn't get another compatible towbar to put on because they had to special order it. Jeeps are probably the most commonly towed vehicle on the road, and why does UHaul only have a one-size-fits-all towbar?? They said they would try to find us another vendor, and after we waited another *thirty* minutes, they claimed couldn't locate another vendor to help us - having called all of TWO places, both of which were closed. Although, they did say that they were sorry. Luckily, another customer behind us in line heard our plight and called another local business called Precision Trailer Hitches and Welding to help us out. We paid a little more to get the towbar, but we were in and out so quickly. The job they did was very different from what UHaul was offering. Instead of brackets and drilling holes in the bumper, etc, Precision simply welded two tabs on the front of the Jeep. Now, any towbar we get will fit the tabs, and plus they look cooler than the brackets. The only good thing about our Uhaul experience was the Assistant Manager, Anna, who genuinely seemed to care that we were so incredibly inconvenienced. She gave us a voucher for $75, which I used to buy some magnetic tow lights that we needed. Anna was very nice and tried to be accommodating, even though I was upset and probably causing a scene. read more

I visited the Santa Monica U-Haul location, and made an appointment for wiring my car to work with a trailer, and for some reason they hooked me up with the Northridge location to get this work done - over twenty miles away. But I didn't question it when I was told they don't do the install in Santa Monica. I went to Northridge, and left my car at the appointed time, and the U-Haul employees told me it would be done in 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I went to lunch with a friend in Canoga Park, and called U-Haul two hours later to see if they were done, and was told my car was ready. Yay! I came back, and saw that my car was parked in the same exact space. Hmmmm. I went to the woman at the register, and said I was there to pick up my car. She said it wasn't ready. Apparently my call was forwarded to an "answering service." They had never touched my car. I was asked to wait two more hours for them to do the wiring. It seems that they had been understaffed all day. I don't understand why they didn't ask me to change my appointment, or warn me that they were so behind. They had said nothing to me when I arrived. It was 100 degrees outside, and I didn't see any point in staying there any longer. In addition, I found out I could have gone to a U-Haul in Inglewood or Mid-City, locations much closer to me. The lady wouldn't even set up the appointment with me because hitch/wiring appointments cannot be transferred. Whatever. U-Haul has wasted enough of my time, and after reading these other reviews on their wiring "expertise," I think I'm going somewhere else. They get a star because the price wasn't bad. I imagine I will have to pay double to go to a specialty hitch install store. Oh well. read more
