Do NOT rent a storage unit from this place. Our unit got broken into THREE TIMES. The third time they didn't even call me to let me know until 3 months later. It's very easy to break into the unit with a crowbar. My lock was not broken. Management was not sympathetic or apologetic for not telling me in a timely fashion. If you rent from here just know that it will be broken into. I rented from a different public storage location over 11 years ago and it never got broken into. So I don't know if it varies from location to location or if public storage has gone downhill. read more

stuck with another car that missed the gate by 2 mins. app disabled gate access, no way of contacting any of the management. After hours number doesn't work if you're stuck behind the second gate. called 3 different numbers that route to the same call flow. Stupid BOT call does not have options for lock in. No emergency or safety latch to get out. Called to rent a space, finally had a human answer and send my to customer service just to have no answer after 30 mins on the line. Called non emergency police line and apparently they don't have a way to open it. Thankfully the other car was able to find a PS property that was open and have them open it before the police were involved. Fix this. read more

TLDR: DO NOT STORE YOUR BELONGINGS HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!! My unit was broken into TWICE IN ONE MONTH. Save yourself the pain (of both a broken heart and a broken back) of dealing with the crap I've had to because I chose this awful place. ZERO stars I'm not sure if the security here is NONEXISTENT or just USELESS (or maybe they're in on it ...). My unit was broken into (along with about 5 other units in the same little hallway) in late August 2025. I received ONE single call (which I missed) and only when I went in to check my unit 9 days later did I find out it was burglarized. They didn't try to reach me more than once. There was no email or message in the app. Nothing. Almost nothing was taken from my unit. However, everything inside was absolutely TRASHED. So many things broken, boxes torn open and dumped everywhere, even a metal filing cabinet was basically squished because they walked on top of all of my belongings. About 1.5 weeks later (the soonest it could get done due to work schedules), my boyfriend, my mom and I spent several hours on both Saturday and Sunday putting everything back together, re-boxing things, and making everything ready to be moved out of that awful place. FIVE DAYS LATER, before I could move out of there, MY UNIT WAS BURGLARIZED AGAIN. Once again, everything was trashed and broken. Warning: Not Secure At All Design of the "outside" units is flawed.. doors don't lock securely. Doesn't matter if you have the strongest lock on the planet on the door, thieves just use a crowbar to pry the door open, bypassing your lock altogether. This morning my unit, as well as numerous others in the same building, were robbed. The doors were just pryed open! My industrial strength lock was completely in tact, still closed (locked) but they'd just pryed the door open and entered into the units! Turns out all they have to do is bend the one thin piece of metal that slides open when you pull on the handle.. with a crowbar.. and they're in! Definitely leaving ASAP to find a more secure Storage company/brand. read more

Nice location with high price and terrible service! We rented at this Public storage for years and we like how clean the Shirley location is and centrally located in Northridge. Unfortunately, the customer service was terrible! We drove from Northern California during the Pandemic to rent and provided military ID but never received a military discount nor they had any record of it - left several messages but manager was not helpful at all. Over the years, rent was raised several times even during a state of emergency which the Consumer Affairs prohibits rent increase by business (depending on the area). We contacted the manager- left several messages but there were no resolution. In March 2024 we were contacted by a male staff regarding someone trying to enter our storage and apologized that our codes did not work at the gate- the problem was that we didn't and have not been at the storage in over a year! When we contacted the office we were told they were not aware of the call and that someone will call us (nobody called). During our move out, we communicated our experience with a young man at the office who said he is from corporate and he apologized and said it's due staff turn-over and changes. read more

I would not recommend this storage. They retarded the rate of storage within 6 months of storing my items with them to double the amount. They said that the storage prices are based on their occupancy. I have asked them several times to reduce the rate to my previous rate, and they adjusted it for several months and then pushed it to the previous rate. I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

This place has the absolute worst customer service. No one was there when I showed up on Saturday during business hours. I gave them a second chance and went back the next day, only to have her ask me wait in the car for 45 minutes. She said she would come and get me as soon as she finished with the customer. She finished with the customer (I watched the customer get in her car and drove off) and she never came out or called me. I will take my business elsewhere. read more

Daesy was truly a pleasure to talk to and was so very helpful. if I was to be the general manager of this facility and that was one of my managers on the property she would certainly get a raise. she was very helpful and easily helped me and my husband while helping other customers. she helped us with everything we needed! we bought an auction and she made it easy for us to find where we were going and felt like we were truly being taken care of. read more

The actual storage space is fine but we found that they raise the rental rate way too much. They raise it every few months because they know it's a pain to relocate. They raised the rate just a couple months after we first rented it and it felt shady. The first time we set up the space there was another customer in the office having a fit about increases. We thought he was being dramatic but now we wished we would have listened. We plan to vacate asap. read more

I started my rental as they usually have great offers for empty spaces, but after 6 months they would raise the price without even letting you know. It's understandable as it is their practice ever since. In just 4 months, thieves broke in to may storage as its an outside storage which I choose for easy access. There is not much security on their locking mechanism no matter how good your lock is. They stole a lot of my things as I have a 5x10 space. I just received a call from the staff that like 3 spaces has been broken into and one of it is mine. I came and ask the staff what happened and if there are cameras but she said its not in view which is odd considering its an established storage at a decent area of Northridge beside the mall. No help from them as I did not have insurance. As a lesson, it's better to rent the ones inside the building and never put valuable staff. I don't recommend this storage as it prone to break-ins and seems like it's a common occurrence and the staff did not care plus after a month they raised my rent without notice. I will be moving out at the end of the month as it does not make sense to pay for something that is not secure and you cant even put your stuff. Very poor experience. They installed double gates to get in, and they've had issues with getting them to work properly. The app won't open the gate after several tries. You get lucky if it actually works on a rare occasion, but you usually have to get out and key in code. So if you don't remember your code, you can't get in. Also, the gate often gets stuck while opening and only opens halfway or starts closing as you are trying to drive in. They also lock up the carts for use if you go at the end of the day. The elevators also take forever to move, and they don't connect well with the app either. You have to constantly retry to enter code or use app until it finally works right. No restrooms, no trash cans, and hours of operation aren't great. read more

- Unit located outside in one of the drive up hallways was broken into along with many others - Staff did not notify me of break in. I found out when I went to my unit and there was a blue lock that didn't belong to me. - Staff said it was not their responsibility to tell me that there was a break in - I found out weeks later and now I have to deal with filing a police report (not easy, time consuming, slow) and eventually the insurance claim - my lock was not broken, thieves bent the metal piece that you place your lock on - Public Storage has not offered any time of compensation besides moving me to a unit inside at the same rate, for now anyway -They failed to call me to report the break in but the district manager called to harass me to get out of the unit quickly, the nerve right! - their motto is "We treat your stuff like our stuff" they don't care about your stuff. read more

Don't bother storing anything remotely of value at this location. My storage unit was broken into, and I was robbed of anything and everything of value; hell, they even took a ladder, shoes, and clothing. I was notified about the break-in, but so many other unit neighbors were robbed as well, and they were not notified. I filed a police report, and the police officer told me that he alone had been to this Public Storage facility SIX times in the past two months because of burglary. When I was dealing with all of this, their employees were absolutely no help. They didn't communicate anything to me other than nonchalantly telling me to file an insurance claim and a police report and to have a nice day. My unit was a drive-up unit and had its door pried open to the point where it was bent out of shape; my lock was completely useless because it was still there intact. Don't waste any money at this location if you care about your belongings because it's clear to me they don't care about your stuff. read more

This facility has the filthiest store front I have ever seen. There is always trash and mud all along their sidewalk. It is a total eyesore. Very irresponsible of this company to not keep up the front of their offices clean. Clean it up! It drags a down the rest of the block. Clean it up!! I have removed my property from this site. We began renting a 10x10 space in 2015 for $122. Our rent has been significantly raised each year and today we are being charged $425 a month for this box. There is no rent control for storage spaces. Google it. They will continue to raise rents 30-40% annually. We ended up buying a shed and moving the boxes in there- much cheaper. Do not be lured in by the 1 free month. Once you move in, rent will continuously increase and there's nothing you can do about it. Other facilities might give you more of a price guarantee. read more

My only gripe is that it was not funny contactless. My fiance needed a storage unit but was away at the moment which means the contactless was a perfect option, that way I can be the one to take care of everything and move him in on time. Only issue was- I wouldn't be able to get in or receive access or gate codes until he went into office and showed his ID. That being said... I just followed another gentleman set up the storage and lock and once he was back we went into office to set up access. Sheila was super helpful and her customer service is great. Had reserved a medium sized unit. Was going to rent however they called me up several times to get me to go there (I know they all do this, but I felt like this location was more obnoxious about the nonstop calls). When I spoke to someone, I said I will drop by when I can (since they have really, really restrictive hours). They asked me if they could call me again to later confirm and I said no and that I would call them. The guy didn't like my answer despite him asking me (not demanding). Got a quick okay have a good day type of answer and he hung up. That's fine with me. I found a cheaper place anyway. read more

WARNING!!!!! Do not, and I seriously mean "DO NOT" rent a storage unit from this location. Personal items were stolen from my mother's unit at the 9341 Shirley Ave - Northridge location. The office manager wasn't much help as I understood, and the insurance company (Sedgwick) will not cover her losses because according to their policy, there was no forced entry. However, according to the police department (where my mother filed a report), there has been several units from this location that were broken into by force or non-forced entry. Not to mention, after further review of fellow Yelpers who had commented on their experience with Public Storage, I noticed all had purchased their storage lockers from the front office just as my mother did (and she bought two locks). How does this happen? Sounds very suspicious to me. I agree with others and my mom that this was an inside job. So, be mindful when reading their insurance policy before signing to their terms of agreement. read more

We had our storage unit and the one next to us broken into. We got a call about it the next day. No one at Public Storage (manager, customer service, etc.) apologized to us or offered to help us in any way. We had insurance and were told to contact the police to get a police report before insurance could get involved. Police arrived about 6 hours later and spoke to us and asked what was stolen. We told the police that we weren't sure exactly what was stolen in total but listed off a few items we were sure were gone. We asked the storage manager to let us see the surveillance video so that we could make an accurate list of everything that was stolen and she told us no. Supposedly it's against company policy to show customers the surveillance footage in case WE, the customer, were the robbers or knew the robbers and could give them a heads up on how much information the video contained. So that was disappointing that they wouldn't help at all. We told the police to demand the video footage from the storage facility to help the case and for our insurance claim. To clean up the break in, no one at Public Storage offered us any assistance, trash bags, broom, nothing. We were only given a new lock. The insurance company demanded so much proof that we owned the items that were stolen - requiring us to find receipts of our purchase from years and years ago or the items would not be reimbursed. They de-valued all items - so they basically say if you bought a tv 5 years ago for $1,000, the insurance can only reimburse you the depreciated value of $500... which is so messed up because it's not what we paid for the stolen item. They required so many photos of the items that were stolen, asking us to sort through our photos and see where our items appear in the background.... I don't know anyone who keeps a photo with their vacuum at the center of it... why couldn't the insurance company just look at the surveillance video and see for a fact what was taken out of our locker? In the end, the insurance company gave us pennies for everything stolen. Again, no apologies, never saw the surveillance video so we can't be sure exactly everything that's missing, we didn't see any new security measures taken at the storage facility, we didn't get a discount on continuing to store our items there, a notice didn't go out to all renters to warn them that someone broke in and robbed multiple units... just such a disgusting place and policy. Although we continue to keep the same storage unit, as soon as we move, we will never ever use this company again. Scamming their own customers. read more

I am leaving this review for Danny at the front desk of this public storage. Danny is very kind, professional, and caring when it comes to helping out a customer. He goes above and beyond his work duties to make sure the customer is satisfied. He showed my mother and I several storage units and tried to lower to my monthly payment for my current unit. This public storage location is very convenient for me because it is close to my house and it is very clean. It is also right by the Northridge Fashion Center Mall. I would recommend this location to anyone looking for a new storage unit. read more

Drove up to look at renting a storage space and had to park next to an open unit filled to the rafters and overflowing with intoxicated homeless men and their possessions. Asked the clerk in the office (who was sitting 50 feet away from the homeless camp) about the homeless living in the unit and I was told that they're not "living" there so it's ok. I suppose sleeping in an open storage unit during daylight hours TECHNICALLY isn't living there but WTF? Clerk told me that a policer office rents the unit and allows this. Hey LAPD, WTF? Hey Public Storage Corporate, WTF? Oh and then there was the smell. Sorry, not storing my stuff anywhere near this nonsense, don't want to deal with intoxicated homeless lurking next to the entry gate after dark. My suggestion, beware. read more

Things aren't starting off well. We rented a space recently, and moved all our stuff in there last Wednesday. The space is on the third floor (which we knew, we paid less for an upstairs spot, but the facility only has two elevators and one was broken. According to some folks who were there, it is frequently broken. The one working elevator wasn't working great. It was incredibly slow, and required a code to get it to operate. That makes sense, and is a nice security feature, except the code seemed to be "forgotten" after 5 seconds, so you had to put in the code and then jump in the elevator as the doors were closing, or the elevator would become inoperative. Given all that, it took us longer than expected to load up the unit. The center closed access at 6:00, which we didn't know (although it probably said it somewhere) so we ended up hurriedly leaving at 6:05. The next day I got a text and email as a "friendly reminder" that I needed to be offsite by 6. Really? With one broken elevator and another on its last leg you couldn't give me a 5 minute grace period. Seems pretty obnoxious. Let's hope things get better. read more

Close by and they had a special - hopefully just use them for 3 months - I did everything on line and it was a breeze. I then drove over, had to see manager and they confirmed I am me, their GPS then led me to the storage shed and I entered and voila! The package is on the floor which had my lock (I fumbled a bit thinking it was all bluetooth and just push Activate and was wondering for about 5 minutes how far am I to the bluetooth - then I saw that you have to swing it open and then I saw an envelop on the floor (welcome envelope) and there was my lock :) read more

Good, clean, and secure facility. However, the manager needs to work on her conversational skills and professionalism. I was closing the account and she asks, "We're's your lock?" I said, "It's in my car, would you like to see it?" She said, "That's not what i'm asking!" She should have asked if my lock was off the unit if that's what she wanted to know! Very rude. I dealt with someone else when contracting my space. She was really professional and I would have given this facility a better review if this was my only interaction. read more
