Dad hates places like this. Self-order, self-cook, self-burn-n-turn your own meats & hot pot is a no-go for a guy who likes his steak and mash for DinDin. Last night was a second goround at my brother's request for his 27th birthday. We were told a 45-min wait which isn't bad considering how busy this place can get. We got seated 20 minutes in on their Soft Opening Night which meant free Hot Pot! You really need to get organized once you're seated. All the utensils, hot tops and grill setups can be a bit overwhelming. So here's what I suggest: - Get soupwasted first! That means your soupbase, noodles, throwpot veggies and thinmeats should be ordered before anything else. Turn your burners on a Hi-5 until everything cooks to a boil then simma down to a 1 or 2 before your broth evaporates and goos your noodles to a mush over the meal. You're gonna be doing a lot of juggling... - 2 tongs to BBQ: It absolutely drives me NUTZ when people put on more than one meat at a time and slop it altogether when it's still red on one side. RAW TONGS to drop, COOK TONGS to flop your meats people; it's not that hard to separate the two. And let your meats cook at least 30 secs on one side, hesus. That's pretty much the gist of it. The servers aren't much of a help as they're still getting a grip on busy dinner services. They're only good for drink refills and napkins; you're better off asking for broth toppers and order backups from the guys who bring out the meats. It really "boils down" to having experience with this type of DIY or it can easily go to shit. I think they have a limited lunch menu around noon/2 that can help you get a sense of working for your supper. Service could still use some more tuning but at least they make fine fetchers of those macaron ice cream sandwiches at the front. read more

The place was packed with diners, we have to yell to the person next to the mounted tablet to the wall to key in. - Too long to get the protein to the table. It took a good 30-45 minutes to get the meats to our table. - The soup came out in 20 minutes, but we got to wait extra 10-15 minutes for the veggies and noodles to come out. - The Banchan selection was just OK. The potato was bland and off. - They don't sit you unless all parties are there. If you are a teenager, big family and love buffet/all-you-can-eat style, it's Bang-for-The-Buck here. I came here on a Saturday afternoon with my family and loved the kbbq experiences. For a weekend date, we only had to wait for 30 min to get a table and our server was great. He came back and forth to check up on us to make sure we had a great experience. The quality of the food was super fresh - I love that we got to order it on the Ipad, honestly so much better and more convenient than Gen. Our food came out fast along with the bachans. She personally went to check if our table was ready and seated us. :) It's about $24.99 for ayce kbbq or ayce hot pot. Usually that's the cost for one or the other, plus $3 extra if you want both options. This was their soft opening promo. Everyone has their individual pot, so that's great. + They have a sauce bar where you can make your own sauce, cool - but.. It's DISGUSTING. There's just something unsanitary about everyone being able to touch everything. Plus the bowls you put your sauce in is FILTHY!!!!!!!!! Majority of them weren't even washed properly :( - Let me know if you smell that sour smell near the sauce bar.. cus it put my stomach in knots too blehhh!! + The iPad was a cool concept. You order everything on there, including napkins/water. Drinks excluded. & you can checkout through it too. - The seats, table, plates, bowls, utensils, cups, grill.. everything was HORRENDOUSLY OILY. No joke. They forreal need to get it together because that's unsanitary and could make someone seriously sick!!! - The waiter was rarely present, that includes his runners. - Food was mediocre. Q Pot has to be one of the best AYCE for KBBQ and hot pot. Right now since they're in their soft opening stage the price is $24.99! What a steal! What's different about this place is that they have a tablet at each and every table that you order from. This is so much faster than waving down a waiter, telling them the items you want, and wait for them to send it to the kitchen. The tablet allows fast and efficient processing of the order that goes directly to the kitchen. Service is meh. Since they're still in their earlier stages they can be quite slow and sometimes forget to check on you but it's understandable since it's so busy! Only problem I had was some of the items that we would order didn't come out at all so we would have to flag down a waiter or waitress and ask where it's at. Turns out they would be out of that item. It would be nice of them to say on the tablet that they're put of stock instead of making us anxiously wait for the item to come out. Overall, the experience and food was superb will have me coming back in the future. If you like spicy go for the Taiwanese soup base but if not miso is also a good option too! Qpot is not comparable to other AYCE BBQ places like Gen BBQ. I came here around 5 when they opened and there was already a line at the door. We were seated right away and our server told us how the ordering system worked (a tablet on the wall where you can order your meats, vegetables, drinks, etc). There's a free sauce bar where you can pick your sauces (ranging from sweet and sour sauce, oyster sauce, hot bbq). There's a good variety of meat which include beef, pork, and chicken. The servers are pretty nice and friendly. Every couple of minutes someone came by and asked if we were okay or if we needed to change the grill. The Tom Yum soup base was pretty good when I got it for the hot pot. Overall, the quality of the meats were not on par with the other meats from Gen and YakiniQ. We came here awhile back, near their grand opening days. The wait was about 2 hours on a weekend, but we decided to wait anyways. The price is a steal, $25.99 for AYCE hotpot and Korean BBQ. The ordering system is great. You press on a tablet screen and your food comes out, no worries about flagging down a waiter, although their service was great anyways. They have the usual meat, seafood items, veggies for your hotpot, and other specialty items such as oysters. There's a limit on specialty items, so unfortunately you can't order 10 oysters at once. There was a glitch in our system and another table's order was being sent through our table, so we got a ton of meat and stuff we didn't ask for. However when we told our server David about the problem, he was extremely helpful and figured out what happened quickly. You could get all you can eat BBQ and also hot pot, so it's very dangerous. I tried the mushroom broth for the hot pot, which I quite liked. It wasn't too salty but had a lot of mushroom flavors. We tried a variety of items for both the BBQ and also the hot pot, and I think the pork neck and pork belly were my favorite on the BBQ. A very bad dining experience. Wait staff spilled food and beverage on my spouse and several family members. Ruined my spouse's birthday dinner and our family's visiting us from Hawaii. The staff half heartedly apologized and cleaned up the area (spouse's plate was soaked, the floor was soaked and he was completely soaked). The thing that makes Q Pot stand out from the rest is that while you have AYCE Korean BBQ, you can also have ayce individual hot pot at the same time! How awesome is that?! It's basically like having 2 ayce meals for a single price of $24.95. To me, that's pretty darn worth it. Also, they have a tablet where you an order from, so you can order whenever you're ready; don't need to flag down the waiter anymore! I've been here twice now and it's safe to say, that the food is pretty solid. There's a great selection of meat, seafood, vegetables, and carbs for both the grill and hot pot. Speaking of selections they have a pretty extensive sauce and seasoning bar as well. This bar can get a little messy though as it is self-serve. The food came out in a timely manner, so no qualms there. The main reason why I'm docking a star off is that they didn't have some of the dishes that were on the online menu during my visits. I went to q pot last night with my two friends. We tried pork belly, brisket, short ribs, bulgogi, rice cakes, and cheesy corn. I actually like qpot a lot more than gen and a few other kbbqs because of how easy it is to order rounds. You have a tablet near your table and just place the order virtually and the server comes out with it. The meat is really good but they dont have a lot of sides. The brisket sauce is my favorite, the staff is really friendly and for the amount of food we ate i dont think it was a lot. For 3 it was 100, $120 after tip so $40 each. Sometimes the server may miss an order through this but it's easy to just ask the server or order an item again on the ipad. tl;dr-- New place becoming the next hype-- fusion kbbq & hotpot. Ordering is through a smart screen. Overwhelming food experience due to a lot of food ordered at once. Servers were efficient and nice. Food was good. Dishes were dirty. _______________________________ Move over all the other hypes...because there's a new cool kid in town and its name is Q Pot, the offspring of kbbq and hot pot. They're still in the soft opening mode, and yet the wait is supposedly averaging out to 2+ hours. Damn. To celebrate a friend's birthday, our party of 6 put a name down around 8:30 and was told the wait would be 3 to 3.5 hours. Looked like we were going to be seated either 30 minutes before closing or right at the strike of midnight. Buuut, for some weird reason, there really weren't that many people in the waiting room. Plus, the hostess said people usually gave up around 10pm. So, we were optimists and decided to wait around. & wooh! Lucky for us, we got seated around 9:15.. so it was only about a 45 minute wait! The setup of the table is pretty cool. Each person (supposedly) gets his/her own pot for the hot pot, and there is a grill in the center of the table for the kbbq. Ordering was also easy through this smart screen monitor at every table. There were a few glitch every now and then but nothing too bad to be complaining about. Now although there were 6 of us, they actually squished us into a table of 4 so there were only 4 stoves for the hot pots. It was quite tight but we still managed. Our server Lonny explained how to order and gave us the rundown. For soft opening, hot pot is included so it's only 24.99 for both kbbq and hot pot. Regularly, it's extra 3$ for hot pot... which I still think it's pretty worth it for AYCE. The experience was pretty overwhelming. Part of it was our own fault because we went a little crazy with ordering and basically got a lot a lot of shit for both kbbq and hot pot. Table space was already small, and so when most (if not all) of the food arrived, we really didn't know where to put all the dishes and I for some reason ended up having both of my hands full. We also just dumped a bunch of meat into the pot or onto the grill just to make space. It's gotten so bad to the point where we just started using this wall divider surface next to our table to put the dishes on. For the kbbq, I liked the beef tongue, beef belly, brisket, pork belly, and galbi. The tongue was by far the best tongue I had ever eaten. The quality was pretty good for an AYCE! For the hotpot, I liked the Taiwanese spicy soup and the sliced beef/pork/lamb. They shouldn't be put in the soup for long otherwise they get really hard. Some of us in the party concluded that having both kbbq and hotpot was a little bit too much, and that they preferred just one at a time. On the other hand, I enjoyed the option to have both in one meal because let's face it... you really are getting the bang for your buck by having two different cuisines in one meal for the usual price of just one cuisine. Some of the dishes were pretty dirty with some stuff still on there. And the sauce bar was really dirty but that's what you get for having it self-serve. Service was really great actually. For quite a busy place, these people are really efficient in bringing you the ordered dishes, re-filling your drinks, changing the grill, and basically fulfilling your every need. They didn't open the doors for us til like 510. Talk about Asian time! It's all you can eat for $24.99 which includes hot pot(good during their soft opening). After that, you will have to add $3 for hot pot. It's a 2hr limit and you can only order 2 plates person at a time. You have to wait 10 minutes in between before you can reorder again. Portions are small and the meats weren't marinated properly. Bulgogi beef and chicken taste very bland. In fact, all their meats taste bland. Like they were unmarinated. Timing is everything: We arrived right at 6p tonight (Wednesday) -- it was almost full, and we got the last large party table. When we left, there was a crowd waiting outside. Lots of birthday celebrations and graduation parties. Korean BBQ: My 4-year-old nephew (happy birthday, Ethan!) chose to spend his birthday here -- he loves Korean BBQ... not really for the food, but he loves being able to grill. They offer 13 kinds of beef for the grill... the bulgogi was definitely the table favorite. I'm not a big meat eater, but my family was pretty satisfied with the quality of the meats and seafood. All-you-can-eat is $24.99 per person, but kids under five eat free. Drinks and beer are available for an additional charge. Hot Pot: For their soft opening special, they're providing complimentary hot pot (normally $3 more). They have seven broths to choose from, and each person gets their own individual hot pot. I chose the Japanese miso... it was good at first, but the taste became a bit tiresome... I'd probably opt for the standard herbal one next time. Saucy: They have an awesome, and somewhat confusing, sauce bar. So many sauces to choose from! With the help of a long-lost friend (hi Andrew!!), I made a tasty combo of cilantro, green onion, garlic, and sesame oil sauce. Dessert: Be sure to save room for dessert!! Loved Q Pot! I'm the type of person that could have kbbq and hotpot everyday and always have the toughest time deciding between which to get. I was seated just before the dinner rush, but the wait can get pretty crazy so be sure to utilize the yelp check in. Ordering through a tablet is a huge plus because you get to take your time and order without having to flag down the staff each time. The food comes out super quick and the waiters are all super nice, willing to help you out with anything! The finger short ribs, kalbi, and brisket is a def must for the bbq portion (drooling just thinking about it...). The lamb was also really good for the hotpot! You'll love it more! lol The Korean bbq is 2/3 fat, the oysters needs to be better cleansed, utensils are filthy, and the hot pot soups are mediocre. I would come again to support my local businesses, but no time soon. Next time probably high too to accommodate the lack of flavor and justify the unlimited amount of ooyysssters. Why 2 stars? Because I will not recommended this place to anyone. The meats had limited choice and quite bland. Hotpot soup base did not taste good. The pork bulgogi was ok. The side dishes were so/so. I'm a white girl and im telling you this place is almost white-washed korean food. ALMOST. The atmosphere is fun if you're with a huge group or people who like restaurants with an ope floor plan and over-sized tables. But its loud and DARK. I could not hold a conversation with out yelling. The service we had was VERY good though. But not the best side dishes either. I live japchae and gamjajorim but the food was just not well seasoned imo. Its pricy too. Which i dont mind but was just not as enjoyable as other Korean restaurants in San Jose that are MUCH MUCH better. I feel like you're paying for an over hyped atmosphere here... read more

Quick summary: -Great food -Great service -Questionable system/kitchen TIP: get here early if you don't like 1.5 hr+ seating wait times Q-Pot is the new kid on the block in San Jose's growing world of Asian eateries. As a San jose KBBQ restaurant with a selection that goes beyond eight items (sorry Santa Clara), it is only natural to compare it with its only other competitor in this regard: Gen. I was very impressed by the quality of service and food I received at Q-Pot's soft opening. My friend and I, seated and served by Travis, were more than impressed with the stylish presentation that Q-Pot offered. Each table was equipped with a Surface Pro tablet that customers could use to send orders to the kitchen. Situated in the center of the tables was the traditional KBBQ style gas 'grill', and in front of each seat was a smaller electric burner that coukd be used to warm Hot Pot soup stocks. Travis explained that since we were dining during the soft opening, the typical $3 surcharge of ordering Hot Pot would be waived and we would have limited dining options. We started with an order of brisket, steak, spicy hot pot soup stock, lamb slices for the soup, and OYSTERS! Since we were the first to be seated and served, our order came out in a very timely manner, with one exception which I'll get to later. I noticed that the meat was a lot less cold and more fatty compared to Gen, especially with respect to the brisket. There was less lean mass, yes, but not a bad tradeoff for meat that cooked more quickly and tasted better (fat = flavor!). On the flipside, the serving size of the brisket plate was notably smaller than Gen's. If you're a big fan of a particular (sliced) meat dish, you'll probably want to have more than one order. Anyway, the steak was pretty good. We waited a while for our oysters and hot pot, and they arrived. We set the oysters in the hot pot and waited for them to cook while we put in our second round of orders, which ended up taking 40 minutes! Apparently, the system had a malfunction and both the kitchen and service were in more or less complete gridlock for more than half an hour! Travis was a trooper, however, and did all he could to make the experience more bearable for us. After the meltdown subsided, we were bombarded with queued up orders, and received many plates that we did not ask for! However, it was fortunate because we got to try many dishes that we wouldn't have ordered otherwise, haha. Anyway, the quick rundown: Seafood: YUM! Clams, oysters, shrimp are all great to put in a hotpot. They take a little long on the grill (especially the unopened oysters), and since they add to the hotpot flavor it's just so much better to put them in the stock IMO! If there's anything that sets this place apart, it's the seafood!!! Hotpot: We had the Taiwanese Spicy something something stock, and it was great! If you've ever been to hotpot before, it's the typical red colored broth with a bunch of spices and random nuts and stuff inside of it. It goes VERY well with rice. If you order this stock, I highly suggest you order a bowl of rice with it so that you can pour the broth and meat over the rice as you down the hotpot (similar to what you would do with kimchi jigae or sundubu). Meat: They have lamb, which was yummy. Their Samgyeopsal was a little thinner compared to Gen's, but it seemed to cook a lot better and taste better too (perhaps because the slices were not stone cold when we received them). Their brisket was great, and their steak was alright. Unfortunately, I didn't ever get my order of their 'signature pork chop' due to the system crash. I'm not a big fan of bulgogi period, so I can't comment on that either. Their popcorn chicken was good, but kind of hard to eat because when it arrived at our table it was very cold which made the texture gross. Imagine eating orange chicken that's been in the fridge overnight...yeah. A few minutes on the grill fixed that issue, though. There are definitely more meat items that I want to try out! OVERALL, however, the experience was fantastic. We got all of the food we ordered from the menu (and more!) eventually, and we left full and happy, which is ultimately what matters in the end! Travis was a great server and really dealt with the stress of an overloaded system and his first night of work well; we were very impressed by his service. Adam, the owner, is also a class act; he kindly granted the diners 15% off of our orders due to the system/kitchen fiasco. If that's not great customer service, then I really don't know what is! I definitely will be coming back here to see this place at its full potential. I remember having similar issues with orders and timing at Gen during the first month it opened, so for Q-Pot to do this well on a soft opening with many servers on their first night of actual work is incredibly impressive. TL;DR: Go here. IT'S SUPER GOOD! Better than Gen (IMHO) and it hasn't even unloaded all the guns yet! read more

One of our fav bbq and hot pot places. Easy to order. Have great variety of meats and seafoods. For hotpot, broth is very good. For bbq, it's good when u come on dinner or weekend when they have all premium items. Hotpot weekday lunch is a great deal for price. They have a lot of sauces and also some dessert. Just the cleanliness probably can improve a little bit better. read more

Very solid AYCE Korean BBQ. Love the optional hot pot add-on! Highly recommend it to anyone who's craving some ACYE BBQ.

Wasn't the cleanest. They can do better on service and improve the quality of food as well.

We went there for the second time last week - kids were very excited. Definitely will come back again. We enjoyed garlic shrimp and the miso hot pot. Great experience. Definitely try the strawberry ice cream. read more
