    #5 Mushroom Tofu Soup
    Winston L.

We had a precarious start to our SGD Tofu House experience. We arrived before opening on a Tuesday. Their front door was propped open to dry out their freshly mopped floors. Unfortunately, there was a guy sitting next to a garbage can smoking a cigarette and all that went right into the restaurant. Once we got in, no major issues. The staff was very friendly and got us extra plates and dishes so that we could have a family style meal. The food: Galbi - I thought the portions on this were very reasonable given we added this on as a combo. Meat was tender and had good grill flavor. Seafood Pancake - they have a version that is unlike any other version I've had. I thought it was non-traditional, but very tasty. The pancake is super thin. I don't think they use a traditional wheat flour and they're shallow frying for extra crispness. Some of my family didn't like it because they wanted crispy outside soft inside. Spicy Rice Cake (mild) with Chicken - My family doesn't eat anything above a mild. I liked the flavor, but could have used more heat if I was ordering for myself. Mushroom Tofu Soup - I think this was pretty standard fare Fish Egg Tofu Soup - For some reason we thought this was fish with egg tofu (which isn't even a Korean thing). So, when this arrived with a sack of fish eggs, we were a bit surprised. Cooked fish eggs are something that I will eat, but I don't particularly enjoy. They're a bit tough and mealy. They're also not very visually appealing (white veiny sack). Tip from the front door entrance - Senior Tuesdays, Bring a Senior and Everyone Saves 10% Off! Food was decent, service was excellent.

The best Korean spot in the Bay! I've been coming here ever since I was little with my family and it's still so good to this day. I've tried almost everything on the menu and i've never been disappointed ever! My favorites include the bibimbap, kalbi, pancake, rice cake, tofu soup, and stir fried udon. The sides that come out before the food are all so delicious especially their kimchi. The restaurant has many seating options with the best customer service! The sweetest people who are very attentive and sometimes even give you free samples on the side to try new items. The prices are really reasonable as many other Korean places are pricey. The portions are very filling but if you go during lunch time, they have smaller portions and a great deal! Every dish is so flavorful and made with so much love. Korean food is not really my go to but this is the only place I enjoy eating at. Thank you!!

An eatery in a shopping plaza specialized in Korean cuisine. We visited there in a Tuesday around noon. We arrived there about 11:00 am and found that the place doesn't open till 11:30 am pronto. We would be their first customers. Orders were taken promptly and food came quickly. First was the seafood pancake. It was a deep fried style so it was really crunchy but I preferred the pan fried version. The BBQ (Kalbi) and tofu combo with mushrooms and the other combo with fish eggs were next to arrive and were Ok! The accompany beef ribs were tasty. The spicy rice cake with chicken was done properly. Portion sizes were adequate. Service was good. One note for potential customers, the place has a senior discount date. It's every Tuesday, senior and their party would receive a 10 % discount on their entire bill.

Delish! My roomie and I each got a soondubu (I got the combination tofu soup with mild spice) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great variety of tasty banchan too. We also shared a perfectly crispy seafood pancake and they don't skimp out on the seafood pieces. We ordered the small/regular, but the generous portion size was enough for leftovers. Such a hearty meal! The staff was attentive and welcoming, and offered to refill our banchan which was sweet! Overall, an unassuming establishment that lets the yummy food speak for itself.

Haven't been here for about six months and the place looks slightly remodeled. But the food is still the same, delicious. They have a few new items on their menu, which were very good. They have a bento box now and they have some cheese items that were fantastic. Service is always fast and friendly, and the Bonchon was yummy. I had my typical kimchi tofu, but my friend had the special with beef and cheese. It was just the right amount of cheese, not overly gooey. This is a great place with a great location and convenient parking. Prices are reasonable, and the food is consistently excellent.

We had a really nice dinner at SGD Tofu House. When we got there around 6 pm on a Friday, there were plenty of open tables, but they started filling up quickly. Also, there were a lot of people doing pickup orders. They have a big menu that features soft tofu soups and bibimbaps. My partner got the tofu soup with mushrooms and said it had a variety of interesting mushrooms. I got the house special SRC rice plate, which is served on a sizzling plate that cooks the rice until it's crispy on the bottom. The dumplings were just okay, probably would be better fried than boiled. This place isn't fancy inside, but everything was nice. The service was particularly helpful, making sure everything was just so.

Solid Korean tofu house with tasty food and friendly service. My husband ordered the bbq beef stone bowl bibimbap at a level 7 spicy--personally, I'd say it was closer to a 5, but it was still flavorful and enjoyable. I got the regular bibimbap and found it a teensy bit bland. However, we both really liked their bbq beef and their veggies were fresh and well-prepared. The banchan was great! Nice variety and spiced up my meal. The staff were really kind and welcoming, and prices felt affordable compared to similar spots. There's only indoor seating, but the space is pretty roomy and comfortable. Overall, a great experience and we'd definitely return.

A longtime staple in San Jose! I'm long overdue in writing this because SGD Tofu House has been a go-to for me for years. It's one of those local favorites you keep coming back to because it's consistently good. The tofu soup is the obvious highlight, but my other personal favorite is the bibimbap- which always hits the spot. I also really appreciate that they have been adding new menu items like tteokbokki and braised short ribs. The banchan is always fresh and delicious, and could honestly be a meal on its own. If you're looking for authentic Korean comfort food, this spot never disappoints!

A solid place for tofu and other Korean foods. On a rainy day, the hot steamy tofu is a nice comfort food. I recommend trying the special menu! Good value and I think it's enough to share. The owner is very kind and works very hard there. Go support this local business!

I've been hearing the hype over this Korean Tofu Soup spot for a while now and today was the day I was hella craving it. I wish I've been here sooner because they really do have the best Korean Tofu Soup I've ever had! Came here around lunchtime right before they got hella packed so we got seated right away. The restaurant has a very nostalgic ambience to it, which made it feel like I was eating real homemade food! Service was your typical Korean Aunties, they're quick with it so you know the food is as authentic as it gets! Onto the food, I ordered a seafood pancake and the #3 seafood tofu soup which came with multigrain rice and banchan. The seafood pancake was superrrr crispy and the seafood was the perfect amount of chewiness, which is how I like my pancakes! I love how they give you multigrain rice because it feels like a healthier alternative to white rice, you honestly don't taste the difference. They also give a variety of banchan that you can pair with your food. As for the seafood tofu soup, this was the star of the show. We got medium spicy level and it had a good kick to it without overpowering the taste. The soup was creamy and full of flavor. Definitely will be coming back here!

    Kalbi Lunch with Banchan

I've been wanting to come back for the lunch deal. Price for Kabli has gone up. But nothing beats their lunch special. Paid $23.79 with tax not including tip. Still fairly decent. Kalbi hit the spot. Great service. I was greeted when I came in and when I got the menu. They have a good amount of space for groups, single diners and dates. When I came in it was about an hour before they closed. Service was quick which was great because I was famished. Not going to lie I did eat 95 % of my food. Once I was done I paid and left. Definitely coming back for lunch to order their combination tofu soup and meat Jun.

    Oliver L.

I like this place. We stop to eat lunch here whenever we're in the area and they never disappoint! The food is always delicious. The kalbi is always perfect and they have meat jun! Meat jun is a popular Korean-Hawaiian battered meat dish and I've only ever had it in Hawaii as a child or on rare occasion when a restaurant serves it which is indeed not common unless roots stem from Hawaii! They're always so nice and attentive and always so clean! Give it a try!

Very crowded at night but not too long to wait. Not a lot of table but it's enough to serve all the customers. The lady owner (I guess) is very friendly. I like the menu with many different options. The beef (see my picture) was so well marinated and extremely tender. They brought so many small sides like kim chi, pickle, seaweed... The price is very reasonable. So far so good.

    Delicious lunch !

I'm glad I did and was definitely delighted by the experience. Hot Stone Bibimbap 5/5: There was a review on Yelp saying that there was no crunchy rice at the bottom and that it was bland. As a fellow Korean, let me give you some advice. Wait a few minutes and let the rice cook more because the stone bowl is still hot. lift up the bottom until you see crunchy bits and then you could start mixing. Excellent mix of seasoned vegetables and rice. They give you the gochujang bottle sauce on the side. you can adjust it to your level. Soon Tofu Soup 5/5. I've had a lot of tofu soup of what I like about this one is that it had a good balance of tofu, kimchi was not super sour like some restaurants and they give you an egg on the side. Very clean finish. Banchan 5/5: The highlight for me was the banchan. I went with a very picky eater friend and she really loved the kimchi ,the cucumber kimchi ,the fish cakes, japchae. They put a lot of effort into making the banchan - which I recognize right away. They also fill up if you run out and the dishes are larger than normal restaurants. Amazing. You read my mind. Interior 4/5: It is a smaller, more intimate seating.( about 25-30 people) . It still has the vibes of of a Korean eatery with K-pop music playing on the TV screen, wooden benches and chairs. You'll have to wait a bit if you go during peak hours and parking is a bit difficult. I suggest going within the first hour they open up when there's less crowds.

The short ribs came out sizzling, and had a great char with a sweet soy sauce flavor. Meat was tender and had the perfect chew to it, such a comfort meal with the rice. The beef soup came boiling, and there was a generous amount of beef, mushrooms, and tofu. The only complaint I have is the soup ratio was less than what I'm used to so about halfway through the pot there wasn't much soup left to pour onto the rice the way I normally do. But that's not a bad thing, means you're getting more protein! Service was great, but it's a bit expensive from what I'm used to so I docked a star. I'll check out other places and see if this is just the normal pricing for the area.

The Mul Naengmyeon was cold and refreshing, especially after eating the galbijjim. The restaurant itself is pretty small so the waiters do try to rush you along in order to turn over the tables, but they also worked very hard to make sure your meal was satisfying. Overall a very pleasant experience if you come early enough and don't have to wait in line.

That stone bowl was SUPER HOT! It was sizzling when served, and we could still see steam as she packed up her leftovers! My friend loved the crispy rice on the bottom. SJ Omogari is on the pricy side, but still worth it. Go!

I ordered the bibimbap pork rice. When it was brought to me, the waitress told me they were out of the sauce so it was very bland. Also to know they were sold out of seafood, squid, and bulgogi bibimbap. Half of the menu items were not available. There were also only 2 Bachan dishes. Kimchi and broccoli. Very disappointed.

The first two times were great -- they served a wide variety of banchan and the seafood tofu soup was packed with fresh shrimp, clams, octopus, mussels, and squid. My daughter also loved the galbijjim. On our third visit, we arrived right at 5 PM and were told they would open shortly because the cook was on lunch. We waited until 5:20 and they still weren't serving, so we ended up leaving. Our most recent visit was the last straw. They only offered two types of banchan (not even kimchi), and they were out of all dishes that included meat or beef. It was surprising for a Korean restaurant to not have Korean BBQ or short ribs available. My seafood tofu soup barely had any seafood, and I had to point out to the waiter that there was no shrimp at all. He later returned with a cheap frozen seafood mix and said they use a seafood mix, which was disappointing considering the higher quality seafood they used to serve (including head-on shrimp). They also did not serve the usual purple rice this time -- instead we were given dry white rice that seemed reheated. There was only one server handling all the tables and cleaning, so service was slow. It's disappointing because the quality used to be much better. Based on our recent experiences, we will not be returning anytime soon.

We were just looking for some quick bites, so we ordered a seafood pancake and meat jun to share. Both of these were very generous portions. The seafood pancake had a nice light crisp, and was full of seafood and green onion, while the meat jun game on a bed of fresh cabbage and was full of tender, sweet and flavorful bulgolgi. We really enjoyed both with the banchan! Danbi has some great offerings, and I'll definitely try to come again to try some of the entrees and other things when I'm in the area and looking for a full meal!

I have many fond memories of dining here. The food is still excellent. We ordered the tofu and chicken bubbling soup along with the bibimbap, and everything was delicious. The quality of the food is definitely a reason I would return. Unfortunately, the service was very inconsistent. There were two servers during our visit. One was incredibly kind, professional, attentive, and welcoming. She checked on us, offered more side dishes, and was very sweet with my six-year-old son. I even thanked her personally at the end of the meal because her hospitality stood out. The other server, however, made the experience uncomfortable. From the moment we arrived, there was no warm greeting -- we were simply asked how many were in our party. We were seated at a very small table, and when I politely asked if we could move to a larger one since we were ordering multiple dishes with sides and I had my young son with me, she looked visibly annoyed. Throughout the meal, she kept making faces when I asked normal questions about the menu or requested an extra to-go box. These were simple customer requests, and her reactions felt rude and unnecessary. I also noticed that several other reviews mention a woman making faces during service, and based on my experience, I believe this may be the same server. That kind of behavior really affects the dining experience and should be addressed by management. Hospitality matters, especially in a restaurant setting. Good food is important, but customers should also feel welcome and respected. Overall, I would come back because the food was delicious, and the other server was genuinely lovely. However, I hope the owner takes the service concerns seriously. If I return, I would likely ask to be seated with the kind server who made us feel welcome.
