Level 4 dry mala Crispy pork in sweet sauce
    Joann K.

Food is delicious and it's not that busy. I like the dry mala here, its really flavorful. got level 4 for the spice and it was really spicy. The fried pork was good too, crispy, salty with sweet sticky sauce poured over (its a little on the pricey side tho) so, you walk in, get your bowl to the right, fill up with whatever you want and they cook it for you and bring it out, order everything at the counter. friend and i shared the mala and crispy pork, didn't finish all so we packed some to go. Total bill came out to about $57 not including tip.

Good price. Student friendly. Late night snack or dinner, you can do both! Quick service . No minimum weight and the mild broth is MILD , Thx God it's not a scam cos usually mild for spicy mala hotpot is still spicy ! I like how they also have snacks and skewers . Cozy place.

Service is a little iffy since there were only two people, but the hot pot was good! It's like any typical self serve - build your own bowl type of place. We got mild since it was our first time, and I would say there was no spice kick in it so feel free to go to medium! The skewers were okay, I think there should be more seasoning but that's a personal preference.

It was my first time here, and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The service was also not bad but I did go towards the end of the night when there was no one there. I would say that the price overall was not terrible. It was $16.99 per pound and I got 1.13 pounds and in hindsight, I would've got it less noodles because I think that added to a lot of the weight LOL. So my tip would be do not stock up on the heavy carbs. I got the dry hot pot in medium and spicy and honestly, the medium spicy was quite spicy! I was literally sweating eating it and I would say I have a pretty decent tolerance so if you don't definitely get the mild.

spice level 2 is reallly spicy yall. first time trying dry pot (flavorful) & it was amazing, scrumptious. i recommend eating it with rice! parking underground (get it validated), street parking

It was ok. I personally don't think the broth was very flavorful and their sauce bar was non existent. Like almost nothing. No scallion or cilantro or garlic or even sesame paste. It was just soy sauce and spicy sauce. I got just under the highest spice level and it wasn't spicy at all. I should have gone full spicy but I don't think that would have made much of a difference. They have bunmoja (thick potato noodle) which I love but flavor and sauce wise I liked Tang Huo better. I still have a few more malatang places to try in KTown but so far this place is the bottom of my list.

Came on a Saturday night and there was ample seating. They had a solid selection of self serve items including sliced beef, fish, fish balls, squid, quail eggs, veggies, and noodles. We ended up with 2.7 pounds of food that was more than enough for 2-3 people. The dry hot pot flavor was spot on, and medium was just enough spicy but not too much. Their lamb skewers and squid came on a hot plate and were tender. They do serve alcohol and give rice per request for both dry hotpot and soup. Pay after you eat and don't forget to validate your parking before you leave.

I love coming here, the broth flavor is my favorite. I come here to get my hotpot fix every time I come from Fresno. The staff is friendly and attentive. I like how quiet and spacious the place is. I see a lot of ppl do to go orders so like that it's not too crowded.

That Mala Though! Saw this pop up in the brown derby plaza and saw it was new so decided to check it out this week. Definitely seems to have mom and pop vibes, and they're freshly new so be mindful as they're working on getting their service in groove. Popped in and got a seat right away the hot pot is self serve, so you just grab a bowl and throw in all the ingredients u want. It's 16.99/lb at the time of writing so load up on the goods! Unlike other places you won't have any beef pork or chicken brisket to add yourself, but they do have fishballs, spam, and some other options. To that point their protein comes in the form of their skewer selection. Grabbed a spicy lamb and the chicken wings so let's get to it: Dry hot pot: Got this spicy cause you know I love that zing. Really good Mala flavor. I got it Hot and it was actually the perfect heat. Might have to bump it up to extra hot if that's an option next time around, but to compare the 3-4 other hot pot places that offer dry hot pot I think their flavor is the best here. Get this. Spicy lamb skewers: They cook these up in the back and damn these had really good flavor. Super tender and a good Mala) spice mix w a nice Mala kick. Get these. Chicken wing skewers: these were pretty good sized wings. They tasted like they were marinaded in a sweeter marinade but dipping it in the spice mix and some vinegar set these off. Pretty solid but for those who don't like sweet maybe try something else. Overall, great addition to the neighborhood. My favorite dry hot pot based on flavor here. Need to try the hot pot itself and to have the super tender skewers on the side it was a win. Check this place out!

This is hands down my favorite malatang spot in Koreatown! The broth is rich, spicy, and absolutely addictive. Everything--from the enoki mushrooms to the squid and noodles--was fresh and perfectly cooked. I love how customizable it is, and the skewer options make it even better. Portions are generous, the staff is friendly, and the flavors? Out of this world. Pro tip: Grab a Chi Forest lychee sparkling water to cool things down. You'll need it! I've tried a lot of malatang in LA, but nothing comes close. This place is elite.

Malatang level 2 was not too spicy but broth was perfect

This was the best individual-sized mala hotpot place I think we've had so far-- the broth was rich, creamy, and delectable. YinTang and Pixiu are both amazing, but I personally felt this broth was even a step up from them. The skewers were also very flavorful and fatty in the best way possible. Prices were affordable and one bowl was enough for me and my girlfriend both. AC was not working too well in the restaurant, and that would be my only criticism. Other than that, would highly recommend this restaurant!

Once you're seated, they bring out a few complimentary side dishes (Kimchi, pickled carrot, seaweed, salad and their signature dry spice seasoning. Ordering is easy through the QR code menu. Depending on what you order, some skewers are grilled by the kitchen while others are cooked on the automatic rotating grill right at your table, which adds to the fun dining experience. This visit, I tried: * Lamb Kebab (10 pcs) * Mala Lamb Kebab (5 pcs) * Beef Kebab (10 pcs) * Beef Tendon (5 pcs) * Chicken Heart (5 pcs) * Chicken Gizzard (5 pcs) * Chicken Wings * Quail * Matsutake Mushroom * Green Chives * Cucumber * Eggplant * Pan Fried Bun with Pork & Vegetable The lamb kebab and quail remain my two must-order items after all these years. The lamb is tender and flavorful without having a strong gamey taste, making it a good option even for people who don't usually eat lamb. The mala lamb kebab simply adds a nice layer of numbing spice which I don't find it special. The beef kebab was good as well, although I personally prefer the lamb. Chicken hearts and gizzards were decent. The beef tendon wasn't my favorite this time and didn't seem as fresh. Chicken wings were solid and nicely seasoned. For vegetables, I actually enjoyed the cucumber more than the chives and eggplant. The matsutake mushroom was good, though not particularly memorable. If you're a fan of meat buns, don't skip the pan-fried pork and vegetable bun. The bun itself was soft and fluffy, and I especially enjoyed the savory sauce paired on the side. One helpful tip: after 6 PM, you can park for free in the bank parking lot across the street, which makes finding parking much easier. After more than 15 years, Feng Mao continues to be a reliable spot for skewers, especially if you're dining with friends and want to try a variety of grilled meats and vegetables.

I finally had the chance to stop in for a solo early dinner, but unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to my expectations. I ordered the Lule Kabob Combo ($22), which included skewers of minced beef and chicken, rice, veggies, pita, hummus, and a side salad. The highlights of the meal were definitely the salad and the grilled tomato; the pomegranate seeds in the rice were also a nice touch. However, the meats weren't to my taste--the chicken had an odd aftertaste, and while the beef was better, neither really worked for me. Adding the provided sumac and lemon helped, but I wouldn't order the kebabs again. Additionally, the hummus lacked creaminess, and the pita tasted like it was mass-produced rather than fresh. On the positive side, the portion sizes are very generous for the price point, and I left feeling full. I also have to mention that the patio is adorable and very "Instagrammable," so it's a great spot if you're looking for a photo-friendly environment.
