I've had pho on three continents and this is probably the best pho I've ever had, but the eggrolls are the star of the show. I'd trade my firstborn for these eggrolls. I WALKED to Que Viet in a BLIZZARD for these eggrolls. I dream about them. Usually I call ahead and order takeout, and the service is super fast, like 10/15 minutes for pho and the aforementioned eggrolls. I've only eaten in-house once, but it was equally great. Excellent Vietnamese iced coffee that you make/mix at the table. Okay, I'm giving this a 4-star rating because of the egg rolls alone. As the kids these days say, "I can't even." They are so ridiculously delicious! There was a snafu with my order though. I ordered a beef dish and when it came out it was clearly pork. I even asked the waiter if he was sure this was beef and he said yeah it's beef. It was pork. That aside, it was still tasty. You could easily just drive by this place and not even know it was there--it doesn't stand out by any means. This place was so cute! I definitely didn't know what to expect at first, but right upon walking in I was struck with a nice, warm welcome. Definitely get the egg rolls, they are delicious! I had the pork rice bowl which was delicious and my boyfriend had the fried rice with grilled chicken. His chicken was a little dry, but the pork was really great. I recently took a short hiatus from yelping (because school, and work, and life and stress....). I am making my comeback review because I couldn't not write a review for Que Viet...it was the best. I drive past Que Viet every day as I only live a few blocks away. It looks like a hole in the wall, but I knew it had to be good because there are always people going in and out of there during open hours. My partner and I decided to give it a chance two weeks ago, and every day since I have said "can we order que viet again?". Honestly, the day after I was ready for it again. I ordered the Beef and Potatoes, my partner ordered the Shrimp Lo Mein, and we ordered the egg rolls as well (because how can you not??). Okay, so that Beef and potatoes.....I DONT KNOW HOW I LIVED BEFORE KNOWING IT! It was so flavorful, and gave me a whole new meaning of the phrase "meat and potatoes". The beef was so soft/tender and those potatoes were the perfect addition to it. I dream of this food in my sleep. Okay, next....THOSE EGGROLLS. What are they?! How?! They are huge, and have a unique outer crisp to them, and the inside is all meat. I've never had egg rolls like these, but I wouldn't mind having them for the rest of my life. Such a cool atmosphere here. You could drive by and not even know it's there, but you'd really be missing out. We decided to stop in and give this a shot after driving by numerous times because we live in the area, and we're happy we did. Some of the best egg rolls you can get, along with other great options. I recommend ordering family style and trying a few different things if you can. Even though we enjoyed our food we found ourselves looking around at the things other tables ordered and everything else looked incredible as well. You can't beat the pricing on their lunch special, and they are quick for a takeout option as well. I recommend dining in if you can to enjoy the cozy diner like atmosphere. First time here, Saturday night and they're not too busy and the service is terrible. I had to call the server over to place my order and I never saw her again. I was just ignored as soon as I sat down. Food is alright at best, I don't know why people keep leaving 5 stars! I guess I ordered the wrong things- hot and spicy chicken and pork lo mein. This place could really raise their prices if they wanted to. Everything on the menu hits above its weight. The crunchy pork egg rolls have the perfect combination of rice noodle (15%) and pork (85%). The special fried rice is the perfect plate for sharing or shamelessly ordering for yourself. I would not be surprised if next time I just order it on its own. I also tried the Vietnamese coffee and I'm hooked. So sweet and actually caffeinated. The staff are welcoming and helpful. Our first ever Saturday Lunch Bunch met here today. Between the four of us we split the egg rolls (how do they make them so good?), cream cheese fried wontons (seasoned to perfection), Special fried rice, beef lo mein, hot and spicy chicken (not too spicy) and the lunch plate of egg roll over rice noodles. They were all hits with us and we could not narrow down a favorite. Prices are definitely reasonable. I do want to mention our waitress. They have the BEST eggrolls in the Twin Cities! They're always made fresh and are super flavorful and delicious! I also love their veggie lo mein. It's looks bland but there is a burst of savoriness with each bite. The staff are friendly and the service is fast and great! This is our favorite Asian take-out in NE! Their egg rolls are awesome. My husband prefers regular and I get vegetarian. Love their lo mein, veggie friend rice, hot and spicy mock duck and their wontons. Wontons are really important to me ‍ They put garlic and scallions in theirs and they are ahhhhhhmazing. Great Customer Service from the moment I walked in. I came right from the gym, and was hungry for something big in protein and on the salty side! The hot and spicy chicken did not disappoint. I have been to this place many times over the past 20 years. Why? Because their food is absolutely the best! Their egg rolls, though larger than traditional Vietnamese rolls, are crispy and plumb filled with meat, with light fish sauce for dipping. Non better! A really cute and cozy restaurant with good food! I really enjoyed their meaty egg roll, though it might be a bit too flavor for some. I ordered a Tai Pho and felt like it was a bit too oily for my personal taste though not that bad. My friend ordered a chicken noodle dish which could have had a few more veggies or other toppings other than lettuce and chicken. The chicken did taste good though! I've been taking this place for granted far too long. I think that the renovation of the building and the addition of menu items has changed the whole energy of the operation. They've built a long standing reputation on egg rolls but my most recent experience proves that putting them on a pedestal made solely of egg rolls is an injustice. Skip the ol' standbys and go directly to the pho and banh mi. I had the thai pho and the pork banh mi. The broth was a stunning example of how a well crafted soup can taste clean, simple, and yet illustrate layers of subtle flavors of warm spices, salt, and earth. How do they do that??? It's just a clear liqued for Pete's sake!! The banh mi sandwich was beyond impressive. I chose the pork and it was so perfect I'm almost upset that I'll never want to try the other two that they offer. The pork is sweet with a char grilled smoke nested in between a chewy, crunchy, light french roll. The crisp vegetables and bright herbs play with a spicy mayo and rounds out a practically perfect sandwich. For those of you that like pate they offer that too. My sandwich didn't have it but the lovely Lauren brought me a taste. I can honestly say if all pate tasted like that I'd be willing to eat in on the regular. The only explanation I can have for the high ratings of this restaurant is a taste for 1970's americanized chinese food. The sauces are heavy and uninteresting, the meats are hastily prepared in large chunks. Chinese food in the US has come a long way in the past 40 years, and this restaurant needs to take note. As far as representing itself as a Vietnamese restaurant, we did not try the Pho, but the stir fries have no resemblance to anything I have ever had in my trips to Vietnam read more

I give this place 5 stars purely based on the egg rolls and cheese puffs alone. The egg rolls are so uniquely crispy (in a way that I've never seen at another Asian restaurant) and the inside is packed with meat. None of that filler noodle stuff. These really are the very best egg rolls I've ever had and I would consider myself someone who has a lot of experience with egg rolls. Lol! The cheese puffs were equally good: so flavorful with garlic and either green onions or chives. I'm not really sure, and I don't really care. I just know they were the best I've had in a very long time. My friend and I ordered the hot and spicy chicken based on reviews she had read online. As someone with a heat sensitive palette, I was a little nervous about the decision. Yes, it was hot for me and I would probably not order it if I were alone, but I admit it was still really good. My friend, of course, didn't think it was too spicy at all. If I was in a hurry or didn't want to spend too much money, the egg rolls and cheese puffs would be a filling meal on their own. My ultimate carefree comfort food. The buttery bliss of the Hot and Spicy Chicken and a couple of their famous colossal egg rolls will bring my mood up any day. Not necessarily for the more caloric-minded, but absolutely delicious. We once brought some to a local microbrewery and the strangers at the tables to both sides of us were swooning and commenting on the wonderful aroma emanating from our to go boxes. The staff are extremely kind and the new updated space is very nice for a casual date. Please check your pretensions about what "asian" food should be at the door - it is completely legitimate for a Vietnamese person to own a restaurant and serve up whatever kind of cuisine they want to create, even if it strays from what others think of as "Vietnamese." With this kind of ridiculous logic we might as well say that black restaurant owners should only make soul food or that white restaurant owners should only make...well...hmm...peanut butter and jelly?...(what's that cuisine that white americans are so renowned for again?). Besides this, if you know anything about Vietnam, there are nearly a million Hoa or overseas Chinese living in Vietnam and many more abroad - Chinese food is often cooked by Vietnamese both here and in Vietnam. All indignation aside, in this case if it tastes good, it is good. And it is very good. This place is a classic Northeast Minneapolis staple, even an institution - head there to get excessively full and absurdly happy. read more

I went out on a limb and ordered the dinner for 2 for $25.00. It saved some decision making for us. This includes the eggrolls. They reminded me of what Willowgate's used to be like. Huge and loaded. Then a generous, around 8 ounces of crab soup. Delicious, loaded with chicken, shredded crab, and a really delicate broth. I knew it would get me full, but with a cold, it's just what the doc ordered. The entree is chicken and mushrooms, not many, and an ok sauce. The real treat is the sweet and sour pork. Considering this sauce is super thick, everything is crunchy when it comes out, but swimming in this sauce, which is fantastic, you might only want to have it to eat in. This place isn't much to look at, but extremely clean. The bathroom is handy, and has a nice tall toilet. A very peaceful place. I'm glad my 500th review is a place I love. read more

Que Viet is one of the only restaurants in the desert neighborhood of Windom Park. It's got convenience for Nordeasters, but not enough excellence to warrant a long commute for others. Like many others have said, the hot and spicy chicken, or mock duck or whatever else floats your boat, is very good. I'd definitely recommend it as a take out option for a movie on the couch night. I'll definitely pass on the egg rolls though. They are obscenely greasy. Even the meat inside is greasy. Maybe others can handle this, but I most definitely can't! read more
