Here's the thing: you go into a visit to Que Viet as if you were going to eat at the fair. That egg roll is going to be the most delicious, tongue burning, awesomely bad for you grease fest you've had all year. And you're going to think it's great. But you wouldn't dare show up expecting a nice spinach salad with the perfect amount of dressing. That would be like going to the beach and expecting to get some ice skating in. I'm not saying it wasn't good, but this isn't a Vietnamese restaurant. I felt like the name was misleading. There is nothing Vietnamese on the menu except for the iced coffee. And don't get me wrong, it was excellent. Since I have returned from my trip to Saigon it is the closest replica to any Vietnamese style iced coffee that I experienced there. I would have given this place 2 stars, but the amazing coffee totally satisfied my craving and bumped it up to 3. 2 and a half if Yelp let us give half stars. The egg rolls were OK. They had a decent flavor and were crispy, but they were also more greasy than I am accustomed to. The flavor was nothing spectacular at all.. I would get them if I was in the area, but I would not go out of my way for them. I honestly can not see why people rave about them. The cheese puffs were very unique. I haven't had anything like them anywhere else. Good flavor, but the way they were folded made them hard to eat... bites of only wonton, followed bites of too much filling.... and no sweet and sour sauce on the side? I prefer wontons that are more of a purse shape. That allows for more even distribution of filling to wrapper. The "special" fried rice was below average. It was lacking in flavor. Very bland. needed more seasoning.... salt..... spice.... something. very boring. I could have made it at home with very little effort. Maybe I'm just unsatisfied because I went here craving authentic Vietnamese food? Probably not. It's more likely that people have pretty low standards, and wouldn't know the difference between Chinese and Vietnamese food if it slapped them in the face. read more

Que Viet is a major family favorite. My dad has asked for Que Viet for his birthday meal on more than one occasion. As everyone has mentioned, their eggrolls are SUPREME. Seriously delicious. They were one of the few food items I truly missed when I was a vegetarian. The hot & spicy chicken, lo mein, and fried rice are all delicious as well. Unlike most midwesterners I refuse to judge any "asian" restaurant on their egg-rolls alone . Yes, Que Viet has good pork stuffed deep fried giant egg rolls, hence the two stars instead of one. Moving on, the entrees were inedible. Possible some of the blandest food I have ever tried to eat. Not a touch of seasoning. Not peppers, coriander, lemongrass, cilantro, shallots. Nothing. We go here for lunch about every other week. The food is very consistent, and while I may have tried a few dishes here and there, I almost always get the Hot and Spicy chicken. I think this dish elevates beyond the others... and so I'm stuck in a delicious rut of ordering the same thing, and I'm pretty happy about that. My co-workers are stuck in their own ruts as well with different dishes. I do also order a "half order" of the Eggrolls. It's a crispy pork delight. It would be easy to miss this place set unto a quiet neighborhood in NE Mpls. This is a favorite of our office and we come here quite often. I also bring my family here on the weekends because they love the eggrolls. Speaking of which, the eggrolls are amazing! Crunchy, meaty, and delicious! Among the best I've ever had. For lunch the Eggroll over Rice Noodles is a favorite. I love the Hot and Spicy Chicken and the Beef and Potato as well. The place can be busy over lunch, but they have plenty of seating. The kids like the Sweet and Sour Chicken, I'm usually not a fan, but the stuff here is not that fake red sickeningly sweet concoction that many places serve. Instead this is neither too sweet nor overly sour. I actually like it. My wife enjoys the lemon chicken, it is also a nice. I like that it not overly sweet. The Special Fried Rice is loaded with meat and veggies and I have that sometimes as well. The service is usually good, they seat you quickly, keep your water full, what else do you need. They do sometimes have a hard time bringing food out to the group so everyone is eating at the same time. Still, the food is good and the eggrolls are incredible! I heard about Que Viet from a friend who had eaten there before. She said it was really great food and I couldn't agree more. Although it is a little out of the way from the typical Minneapolis hubs, it's worth the detour. The bf and I shared shrimp fried rice, chicken lo mein, and egg rolls. I don't eat red meat so I didn't partake in the egg rolls but he said they were phenomenal and really crispy. The portions were huge - YAY Chinese - so we both had leftovers for work the next day. The decor wasn't anything special but at least the prices weren't sky-high like some over-the-top-ambiance restaurants (cough Rainforest Cafe). Been coming here all my life. Love it. The egg rolls are crispy and scrumptious, and the hot and spicy chicken is simple, yet de-lish. The last time I was there I had the pork with fried bean curd which was excellent, although it would have been a tiny bit better with a little less sauce. This is a neighborhood institution and if it ever closed I think I would just have to pick up and leave town for good. I believe the tropical monsoon that had turned the atmosphere over Minneapolis into a meteorological tribute to Saigon brought about my sudden craving for pho yesterday. After an evaluation to determine that my craving wasn't pregnancy related, I realized I was fine. One must have a sex life to be pregnant, after all. I gave in to my phixation and used my handy smart phone to phind me some pho. Armed with some positive Yelp reviews, I set off to St. Paul's Pho 79. Unfortunately, upon arrival I discovered they are closed on Sundays. After I cursed the Sabbath, I found myself navigating toward "Nordeast" to visit Que Viet Village House. Parking near the restaurant is scarce, as with most of Minneapolis, so I parked my car on a residential street a block away and hoofed it in. The restaurant itself is fairly typical of most Asian eateries around the country, a drab mismatch of cracked tiles, uncomfortable plastic chairs, and utilitarian tables. I did find some humor in the musical selections being piped through the the restaurant. There is nothing like a little "Guantanamera" and a mariachi rendition of Linda Ronstadt's "Blue Bayou" to get one in the mood for an Asian meal. I was promptly seated and given a tattered, laminated menu. After scanning it intently, I discovered a small problem. In my haste, I had assumed "pho restaurant" and "Vietnamese Cuisine" were synonymous. After all, I have had extensive experience with Vietnamese fare in my native Las Vegas. It isn't possible to throw a ceramic spoon more than seven feet in Vegas's Chinatown without hitting a pho house or massage parlor. After a second and third menu reading, my horror was confirmed. There was no pho to be had. I settled on egg rolls and shrimp lo mein. The egg rolls were fantastic. If they weren't so unhealthy, I would have had a second order. The lo mien was so-so. There was not enough liquid/sauce left over from the cooking process to keep the dish moist and when the rice was added it was like eating an Asian-inspired bowl of paste. The fortune cookie was also disappointing. The texture was chewy and instead of offering me hope of love or riches, the fortune informed me that reading was the key to my happiness. Seriously? I will give Que Viet Village House three stars. The service was good and the egg rolls were outstanding. I give them the benefit of the doubt and say my displeasure with the lo mein was slightly seasoned by my deep disappointment over the lack of pho. I have also learned an important lesson. "Pho" and "Vietnamese Cuisine" are not interchangeable phrases. (But they should be!) read more

I went here per a recommendation from my nail gal in NE Mpls. She said it was probably the best in the area. I'm sure she's right, but I cannot confidently confirm that yet. My friend and I ordered take out and it was pretty prompt. We ordered: egg rolls cream cheese puffs veggie chow mien I'm sad to say I am not overwhelmed by what we got. I did not try the egg rolls as I'm a vegetarian but my friend rated them a 3.5 out of 5. They looked like they were drenched in grease but I guess the flavor was there. The cream cheese puffs were very crunchy but nothing too special and the chow mien was underwhelming. Very flavorless and needed soy sauce and hot sauce added. I will return to give this place another try but not anytime soon. The vegetarian options are limited and if you're vegan, forget it. read more

The pho is usually what I get but if you order delivery you really shouldn't get the pho because the beef comes really pink (normally cooks in the hot broth). Que Viet Village. This place is delicious! First off, I didn't know what to expect when I ordered their egg rolls. They are huge, crispy, perfectly greasy, spicy and the pork in them is very good. I love the sauce they serve with the egg rolls. I got a dinner portion of Special Lo-Mein, which was huge - I could not finish it up in 3 days. So there it sat in my fridge on Day 3 and sadly had to be thrown out. The asparagus and crab soup was just ok - not fantastic. I love asparagus, so it was slightly disappointing. The service was excellent and everyone was very polite. My favorite thing to do is eat my Chinese / Vietnamese leftovers whilst sitting on the couch watching Sex and the City re-runs on TV. It's my thing. I am getting myself an order of their Cheese Puffs and their Hot and Spicy Chicken the next time I order take-out. I am sure that it's going to be especially delicious! read more

I've been here a dozen times or so and I think it is one of the better Asian restaurants in the area. First of all the portions are huge. It is very difficult to finish the meal in one sitting, luckily the food makes for great leftovers. I typically get either the fried rice or the lo mein. i liked this restaurant pre-COVID but I went there a few weeks ago and it was terrible. Ordered the shrimp sweet and sour and chicken wings appetizer. Both were barely hot and then got cold really fast which tells me this food was not freshly made but it was just microwaved. Must have been made earlier that day and just reheated. Extremely disappointed. I expect the food to be freshly made, not microwaved. The batter on the shrimp was hard as if it's been sitting there for a while. Went to Que Viet as it was highly recommended by a friend who lives in the neighborhood. From the outside it didn't look like much which was awesome 'cause it's hole in the walls like this that are usually very good and hidden gems. So as I sat and overlooked the menu I noticed that it is not entirely Vietnamese food. It is a blend of asian, mostly Chinese dishes but with a Viet-fusion, or spin per say. I tried the Soup w/Chicken and the GF had the Egg Roll over noodles w/side of fish sauce. Delicious! Hands down it was tasty and the best asian joint I've been to in the TC's thus far. Many selections of tasty items on the menu, so take your time and choose something good, maybe something you're familiar with, don't try and be adventurous and try something random 'cause you might leave with a bad impression of "non-authentic" Vietnamese food. Atmosphere, it probably looked nice when it was first decorated in 1991, right? What bumped this place from three to four stars, Egg Rolls. Huge portions, and really delicious. No one does egg rolls like que viet. This is their signature item. Que viet uses rice paper for their egg rolls and the outside skin is crispy and bubbly and just loves your mouth. Then there are the fillings, the noodles and the veggies and meat and when you dip it in their excellent fish sauce your mouth has an "O" We never share the egg rolls because you want them all to yourself. They have recently updated their menu and their flatware and that is nice to see. As to entrees. I cannot think of anything I did not like. The sweet and sours, the stir fries. Love the fried rices tool Everything is always fresh and easily identifiable. I would take out more from here, but I live so far away it is not feasible. I wish I had one in my neighborhood. Moved up the street from here from near Eat Street, and tried to find some Vietnamese food that didn't require a trip back into town. In that respect, I was disappointed. This is more like your average Chinese place. a) no beef and noodle salad. b) no pho. no pho. However, based on the reviews, we had to try the egg rolls. When they arrived as a big fried mess, we were a little afraid. Fear not. They are truly freakin delicious. My wife, who loathes fried food, kept stealing bites.
