We visited Midtown Global Market for a team lunch ahead of a volunteer event across the street. Phams had been recommended by some peers, so I decided to try it out. I ordered chicken pad Thai with a medium spice level as well as (2) egg rolls. The portions were large and the food was piping hot. The pad Thai was more sweet than spicy, but I enjoyed the amount of peanuts to provide the texture to balance the soft noodles. Was volunteering at an event at the MGM, and had a short break to grab food. I decided to get cream cheese wontons and boba tea from Pham's. The line was pretty consistent here, seemed like a popular place to eat. I asked what the flavors of boba they had because they weren't visibly displayed from Where you order and the cashier/staff directed me to go around the corner/way off to the side to see the flavor sign which was a bit wild. I get it might have been too much for him to tell me the flavors but why is the sign around the so far??? The person behind me had to do the same thing. I can tell the person before me ordered honey dew because I could taste it the first few sips. I ordered strawberry. They definitely don't clean the blender between orders. The wontons were good. Everything was fairly priced. The boba is made from powder and more like a smoothie vibe. read more

Stopped into the global market to eat at Pham's rice bowl on a Monday afternoon, which is the best time to come to this side of town. Cheap parking lot ($2 for 90 minutes) and central to many other eateries, bakeries and grocery shops. I ordered the beef lo mein while my bf ordered the Kung Pao Chicken. The lo Mein was good although a bit basic. I added two packets of soy sauce for a tad more flavor. I should have tried something more out of my comfort zone like the Kung pao chicken (spice level hot) that my bf ordered because the flavors were spot on! The peanuts, green peppers and carrots complimented the chicken well. We shared some steamed dumplings although I am not too impressed with them. They tasted bland and the soy sauce that came with it did not help. However all food items came out hot and fresh! The wait time wasn't too bad considering we took a lap around the Global Market to admire the rest of the small pop up shops they had to offer. And the pricing was not bad at all. Ever since visiting Midtown Global Market for the past 10-11 years, I have given Pham's Deli a few times of trying and I am sad to say that if the food here was decent in the previous years, then the quality had decreased dramatically. What I would have perceived as a 3 can now only be satisfied with a 2 rating, especially after my experience here two weeks ago. Previously I have ordered bahn mi, pho, etc. from them, and those are probably the two dishes that I can still order from them and be okay with it. Their bubble tea was clearly made from powder and tasted very artificial with no soul, especially nowadays that the world is catching up on providing quality bubble tea, the bubble tea here still tasted like it was trying to fool the Americans. Two weeks ago when my partner and I were here, my partner ordered some dumplings from them and I took a bite. I have almost never had to had my partner finish her food after just one bite, and those dumplings did so, unfortunately. They looked sloppy and tasted like water, to the point that I decided to not take a photo at all. Overall I think there are way better Vietnamese food places elsewhere in the Twin Cities, but if one is in the Midtown Global Market and craves Vietnamese food, then sure I would still say yes to giving Pham's Deli a shot, ordering the right things. read more

Located in Midtown Global, Pham's is a spot where you are going to get a MASSIVE amount of food for a VERY low price. My friend and I went to sample a number of things, so I'll describe each below. Shrimp Spring Rolls- Monster size/value and you get 2 for $4.50. Not a TON of shrimp in there, but they were still super good. 5/5 for combination of taste and value. Beef Banh Mi- Again, massive in portion. The sandwich itself was a tad mediocre, with really nice bread and a massive amount of toppings. Would probably get it again. 4/5. Lemongrass Chicken (got super spicy option)- OUTSTANDING. Really nice spice level that is not for the faint of heart. The sauce that they put on it was outstanding and they gave you a really nice portion of chicken. This was the standout of our meal and had great value ($8) to go along with exceptional taste. 5/5. Szechuan Chicken (got very spicy option)- This was a bit underwhelming. I'd say it was certainly user error by us for ordering from a Vietnamese spot. Massive amount of veggies and not a ton of meat. Decent veggie noodle salad bowl - not the worst, not the greatest. Noodles were a little slimy for my liking. I would have preferred far more veggie toppings (menu lists crisp lettuce, fresh cucumber, carrots, and crushed peanuts) compared to the massive amount of noodles. We used Pham's Rice Bowl for catering our business meeting. It was great! The food was hot, very delicious, and the service was excellent. The owner was very responsive, on time, and very reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. The spring rolls are wonderful. So fresh! The cream cheese wontons were crunch and filled just the right amount of cream cheese. They provided serving spoons and tongs along with the plates/napkins/silverware, that were sturdy and didn't break upon lifting the hearty chicken w/vegetables or digging into the white and fried rice. I was a Banh Mi virgin until yesterday and I have been thinking about that sandwich all day! I got chicken with no jalapenos. The bread was fresh and delicious and the veggies were perfectly crisp and full of flavor. This thing was loaded with goodies and had weight to it. The chicken was the star. It tasted like it was rotisserie chicken and was juicy and tender. It was $5.38 with tax, how can you beat that? I have eaten their lunch specials many, many times and it's one of my favorites. This review is long overdue! I love phams so much. They use really fresh ingredients, and as I am vegan they have customized many items for me and not only taking out the meat or sauces but adding vegan ones and extra delicious veggies. Great customer service too, all the staff is so nice and friendly. My favorite thing is the noodle salad bowl - lately I've been opting out of the fried tofu (which is delicious but watching the calories :)) and they'll put extra veggies and give me a delicious peanut sauce instead of the fish sauce. It's the best comfort food. The only negative thing I would say is that compostable packaging would be much better than the plastic they use, even though it is recyclable. Note that in the photo attached I separated HALF the salad into my giant bowl and added my own sriracha and sesame seeds. Sooooo good. read more

I heart the chicken Pho and usually ask them to split it into 2 bowls and just share it since it's so huge! The Banh Mi sandwich is also very good but they put liver on it, so if your not a fan, remember to ask for is "sans liver"! I first discovered Pham's when Bon Appetite magazine featured it in an article. The beef pho at Pham's is awesome! It has a deep rich complex taste while maintaining the lightness that makes pho what it is. The beef is always raw (as it should be) when added to the broth to poach it. There is beautiful Thai basil that they serve with it as well as sirracha chile sauce, hoisain sauce, fresh lime... the noodles in it are amazing and the portion is HUGE. I go there about once a week for the pho and it really is one of the best in town. I love their traditional banh mi sandwich. The bread is flaky in crust and chewy inside as good bread should be. There is a parade of flavors - from the crisp pickled veggies, the chile pepper the wonderful sweets and sours... the pork is perfectly tender with a traditional vietnamese bbq on the outside... this is a really beautiful taste balance and is a wonderful example of traditional vietnamese cuisine. read more

service at PHAM's DELI was painfully slow -- especially discouraging since i was the only one waiting for food. i was expecting a crusty, rice-flour baguette but my BAHN MI arrived up on a big, squishy "ITALIAN" roll (has anybody had a roll like that in ITALY?) that spent enough time in the oven to seem more stale than toasted. there was very little roast pork and what there was was dry and tough. there were only a couple scrawny sprigs of cilantro and no jalapeño slices. a limp pile of pickled daikon and carrots were too sparse to provide any sweet-tangy crunch. my wife took whatever the photographer's equivalent of poetic license is posing my BAHN MI after she'd arranged all the ingredients on one end. great photo but this time if the picture tells the story it was a lie. VIETNAMESE sandwiches are already minimalist so under stuffed on an oversized roll was pretty much like having a giant, nearly naked hot dog bun with all the character of WONDER BREAD for lunch. read more

Ordered a Bahn Mi, chicken dumplings, and Pad Thai. The dumplings were fine. The Bahn Mi was ok...some good flavor, the bread was crusty but not dry. But the filling was too big and chunky. The Pad Thai was disappointingly bland. Very little flavor. The noodles were overcooked. Today I walked up after they had already technically closed, and I believe it was the owner who took my order. The cook had to leave so the owner cooked it for me himself. I placed a really large order and, as always was super impressed by not only the quality of the food, but also the portions. Their fresh spring rolls are huge and delicious. They have shrimp or veggie with carrots and cucumbers and always the perfect amount of cilantro sprigs inside. Every single bite is so fresh and crisp--I feel really healthy after eating these! The house peanut sauce is the best I've had anywhere on earth. Seriously. I order extra and pour it on my... delicious Mock Duck Noodle Salad. It's the only thing that cures my vegetarian meat cravings. The salad always comes with tons of lettuce, soft noodles, and HUGE chunks of mock duck. Easily two or three meals every single time. They serve it in a plastic bubble bowl so you can pour on extra peanut and Sriracha sauce and then mix it shake-and-bake style. I stopped at Pham's yesterday on a whim-- I'd been craving Chinese food all week, but Vietnamese would do perfectly well too. I wanted something with a lot of veggies, so I went with the chicken w/ mixed vegetables with white rice. I ordered it medium spicy-- but i realize now that I could have gone hotter. The veggies were perfect-- crispy, warm, delicious. The chicken is amazing-- high quality, white meat chicken--no mystery meat here. The white rice was fluffy and wonderful. I eat here about once a week. I LIVE for their fresh spring rolls. You feel healthy eating it because it's so light and delicious. I love the Pho too. And the egg rolls. The only other thing I've tried is the Lo Mein - which is honestly not mindblowing - but the portion you get is enough for 3-4 people so, throw some soy sauce on it and call it a day. And yea - unless you get their lunch buffet before 2PM, you will likely have to wait 5-10 minutes for your chow. 80% of it is cooked to order, when you order it. I personally call ahead about 10 minutes and my food is ready when I get there. There is very little on this earth that requires cooking and can be ready to eat in less than 5 minutes. After scanning their menu, I decided on to-go food instead of cooking up some elaborate & messy Asian food myself at home. I ordered the mock duck with vegetables. It was OK, but not nearly spicy enough for me. I wouldn't order it again, but I'm open to trying their other dishes. The cashier was uber nice to me despite my complete lack of vigor. Tasted like something out of a bargain grocery store freezer. The pho was laughable. It didn't even taste like ANYTHING! I am ill after eating here an hour ago. I had the wontons here several months ago and loved them as a favorite. I couldn't wait to go back and finally was able to be there today. They tasted stale and their chicken eggrolls tasted moldy. I felt like I might get sick on them and so I thought I would let them know. The person taking orders and serving as the point person for the restaurant said that yes, here I was notices that the cabbage taste a little off and the egg rolls. I told him the wontons were still testing and how much I'd like them before and he did not respond. I told him the eggrolls were also burnt and he said to tell them not to cook them as long the next time I came back. I immediately said, oh, I'm not coming back. I just thought you would want to know in case other customers got sick or I do. He said it sounds like you just don't like our food. I am now home, and barely made it to the bathroom before getting ill. I also asked him not to dismiss me, but he just walked away, so I thought I would leave a review here, instead of calling to alert them that I am indeed ill, since the purpose would be for them to worry about future people getting out. Meh. This place wasn't bad, but it wasn't necessarily good, or it could have been just what I ordered. I ordered the combo platter with fried rice, spicy mongolian beef, sesame chicken, and an eggroll. I wished they had a better selection than your average asian cuisine like sweet and sour chicken or sesame chicken, but they did have those available as entrees. I wished my food would have been fresher, but that's probably because I ordered the combo, the dishes were sitting under heat lamps. Very cute set-up in the central "food court" area of Midtown Global Market, with flashing signs for their Bubble Tea and a great display of fresh Banh Mi, spring rolls, chicken dishes, etc. I tried the traditional Banh Mi made with BBQ pork, cucumber, and cilantro and it seemed pretty good, although I am no expert on Vietnamese food. I would love to try one of their Vietnamese salads, which is a favorite for me at Quang's on Eat Street, next time around. read more
