She [somehow] got sucked into working here on Tuesday nights. I really don't know why and sometimes still question her judgment, but she keeps this shift so I often visit her. This is my 600th review! *Ahem* As the saying goes, good things come in small packages. That's definitely true in the case for Quinn's, which has been here since the late 1980's. Quinn's could arguably be about as small as Joe Jost on the other side of Long Beach, which would make it among the smallest pubs in town--if not actually THE smallest. If you're a visitor to the Belmont Shores neighborhood of Long Beach, then there's the distinct possibility that you still can't keep the auxiliary street names and order in which they appear straight in your mind, and still might be confused as to which street off 2nd Street Quinn's is off of. To help out: it's Nieto. And the one way street in which you turn right into from 2nd Street, allows you to park right on the front curb. I personally believe that Quinn's is the one of more underrated places in Belmont, and possibly one of the "easiest" bar to access. That could be a good or bad thing, depending on how you see it. I like it because I know I can go in there and not have to fight for bar space or table space and can begin a night out or wind down from a night out right. You can also catch the game on one of their many televisions (surprisingly many for such a small establishment). It's just a down-to-earth good sports bar and pub. The beer selection here is also pretty respectable. While it's not 100 taps from around the world, it's a good couple dozen rotating collection of craft/micro brews and traditional American domestics. Oh, and Guinness. Plenty of that. If you wander in or didn't plan ahead as to what you're going to have, you just have to check out the chalkboard or the tap handles to determine what's on, well, tap. During my last visit here on Sunday, I had a Lagunitas Undercover Investigation Shut-Down ale and a Ommegang Witte. Both very good beers, with the witte on the lighter side and the Undercover Investigation on the stronger side (9.7%). They have simple pretzels for those just chilling on beers, or you can get actual burgers, sandwiches, fries, wings and other pub food from their menu. Having already ate prior to arriving here last week though, I just got a pickled egg and hung out with my party that night with a couple pints during my last visit....which run about a buck apiece. The servers and bartenders here are friendly and know how to shoot the shit with customers. Hell, customers know how to shoot the shit with each other! Even if you sit at one of the tables, and given the place is small, the servers check back on you often. Their hours changed recently and now they're now open until midnight on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. They actually have happy hours from Monday to Friday nights as well, and many people who come to watch sports root for the home team (i.e.: southern California, particularly Los Angeles). Mrs. Q., her brother, and I stopped by Quinn's tonight as we awaited the buzz-buzz of the Open Sesame pager (the corner location of O.S. is but a door or two away). After exhausting our usual browsing spots (the Romance boutique and Body o' Soul) we were lured in to Quinn's after spotting their sandwich board boasting of 19 beers. First impression: this was not I expected. We walk in, and the place was... cozy. Small, but not crowded, at least not tonight. It had the accoutrements of a typical Irish bar, with none of the brotistic clientele. Unfortunately, we only had time for one pint apiece. Hazel opted for the special on tap - $3 Sunset Wheat (a hef w/ hints of orange) - and Hoegaarden for me. Obviously, I chose a beer called Hoegaarden, purely for the comedic value of the name. Ok, not really, but I won't object if you ask me how my garden of hoes is growing. So: for a stopover during a wait for one of 2nd street's busier eateries, Quinn's is a nice little spot. It's funny how bad reviews seem to just disappear from Jason's Yelp reviews. I explained the awful & disrespectful experience I last had @ this establishment in my previous Yelp review. Instead of him doing the right thing and @ least try to apologize, he just ranted on how it was an only case scenario. When I keep reading similar reviews on similar occurrences that I went through. Not to mention this all took place in front of my GF & my guests that I had just recommend Quinn's too. On the way back from Simmzy's my friend and I spotted this place down the street and thought we'd pop in for a quick drinky-drink. Cute little place, but a pretty generic Irish pub. We only had a couple of beers so I can't speak for the food, but I imagine it's A-OK also. When I checked in I saw their Yelp Deal ($5 for $10 worth) so we used it on our bill, not bad. They had Rogue Double Dead Guy Ale on tap, which was a plus. The waitress was really nice, which another plus, but overall I can't really say there was anything extraordinary about it to push it above 3 stars. read more

It's just off of 2nd street, and not as crowded as other 2nd street joints. Went here on a friday during 2nd street's busy lunch crowd, but Quinn's was nice and quiet. A Pub with LA Dodger pride. Plain and simple and not afraid to hide their true feelings. This place has two loves, real beers on tap and sports. The beers on tap are always changing and its good to know a pub bartender that does not belittle you if you do not know the difference between a Stella and a Guniness. Happy hours specials are always the best deal and the 3 or 4 TVs are not a bad deal either. Any real Dodger Fan should really check this place out. My favorite dodger memorbilla is the neon sign that says not only Budwiser but Dodgers in Neon blue lighting. I was a little taken back by the Guinness I ordered and it came in a Bud Lite glass, but then my BFF turned to glass around and showed me the LA. I mentally forgave my server for that. Parmesan Garlic fries...Amazing. Sweet potato fries...orgasmic...double amazing. very brown sugar sweet. DO NOT MAKE ME CHOOSE. MY ADVICE, ORDER BOTH. You can get a sampler of beers too. First of all, the Food gets 5 ++ Stars, as does the service! Let me say that we are Long Beach natives and have been living in the Heights for over 15 years. We love good food and have dined at almost every place on the Shore and enjoy great beer and wine. Tonight, we wanted to explore something new and came upon this hidden pub, next to Bank of America. "Let's go in and check it out." So, we did. To our surprise and complete distaste. there was a "rich-boy-want-a-be" sitting at the bar. He was maybe in his late 20's and had drank one too many. He proceeded to make negative comments about gays and blacks, with no shame, and right out loud. BTW, I think he might be in the closet himself. FIgures. There were only two other nonwhite individuals in the bar, a diner and the cook "Julio," who is by the way, an awesome chef!!! Anyway, this stupid fool at the bar seemed to know Julio, as he kept referring and talking to him. Awkward... Anyway, this guy was trying to make "friends" with everyone that would come into the bar, by sharing with them, right out loud, his negative anti Gay and anti Black statements. We had to go. This is Long Beach, Ca., a very diverse and multicultural place to live and visit. Deal with it, embrace it, or hang out at this place with an idiot (hope he is not a regular) who will probably get beat up a few times for exercising his free speech, which he has the right to do, but doing so in the wrong place, at the wrong time and in the wrong company, is in very poor poor judgment, which of course could be due to the lack of inhibition brought upon by alcohol. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but he seemed like an anxious and very insecure fool, infecting an otherwise potentially great place to hang out, with bigotry. I hope this is not the scene for Quinn's and/or it's regulars. If so, I'll keep my business with EJ Malloy's or other Pubs in the neighborhood, where I don't have to be exposed to bigoted rhetoric. read more

I THOUGHT we'd found our new beer spot in our neighborhood...then we found Quinn's and have definitely established this is it. I've been here twice now, both times on weekend afternoons and both times left happy. They really do have a great beer list (which makes me wonder why there are "Irish Pub" references in here? Oh well). On my most recent visit I had an Eel River Blonde, something delightfully hoppy (citra hops!) that I now can't entirely remember the name of, and a Firestone Hef. I love that they have mostly local breweries (shhh, I'm considering all of California "local" here) which a few other standard delights (I'm looking at you Deschutes!). We got hungry during all this drinking and opted to order the honey mustard chicken wrap with sweet potato fries to share. It make a good snack/light meal for sharing and it was lovely. Not amazing, but I'd totally order it again and it's heaps better than the food at the other pretend Irish place with a craft beer list we'd been frequenting (not naming names, I'm a classy lady!). Now, if only they'd implement a weekend happy hour (weekdays only is no good when you work ALL THE HOURS), I wouldn't even have to think twice about where to spend my time and dollars on the weekends! read more

I really enjoyed this little bar. It's much cozier than Murphy's, but Murphy's is still my favorite. However, this place can't be beat for happy hour deals on beer. Quinn's is a small, neighborhood pub where, if you've lived in the Shore from more than a minute, you'll see people you know, you might recognize folks that you can't place and, if you've done any time at a school in the area, could run into folks from h.s. or college (like it or not!) Specials vary. On the recent January 2 "Holiday", $2 Coors Light flowed for many hours. And they have quite a few "real" beers for those of you thinking it's sac-relig to serve CL at a pub. Although there are great restaurants just around the corner (Open Sesame once delivered to Quinn's - not sure if they still do), if you check in on Yelp, there is a 50%-off any appetizer offer. This place would be a solid 3 - because it's just that - a solid pub, but it gets a 4 for the service. A good place that has premium beers on tap at reasonable prices. One of the few places on 2nd street that isn't ghetto or have a "bro" atmosphere to it. Maybe I'm just getting older and don't want to hang around 21 year old kids (lol) but this is probably one of the more laid-back chill spots in the LBC. They also have a full bar, jello shots, and discounts for house selected alcohol too. Go check 'em out. The location itself is really small and intimate, probably houses about 30 people max. Tuesday afternoon and Im back visiting Long Beach. Decided to drop into Quinns for a beer. The place was virtually empty so I had some conversation with the bartender. KISS was the topic. Place is small and cozy with a couple TVs to watch or internet jukebox to play some tunes. Free salted peanuts or pretzel sticks if youre drinking. Kitchen has later hours of operation. A pint of Guinness will run you 6.75... (- a couple stars for that). You should get an Imperial pint (22 oz) for that price. Right off 2nd street and across from the bank if you need more cash. Street parking was plentiful and $1 in quarters let me park for 1.5 hours which isnt bad. read more

I'm so glad everyone and their mother decided to come out to 2nd Street on the first California-warm Sunday of the year. Almost everywhere on the main street was packed full, which is the only reason I happened to notice Quinn's just around the corner. We were looking for something new and it called out like an uncrowded beacon among the over-packed restaurants. Don't get me wrong, this place isn't hidden, unloved, or anything like that; it's right off 2nd Street and it got crowded pretty soon after we got there but luck just happened to be on our side! The place has a pretty great neighborhood pub atmosphere. Lots of dark colors, lots of TVs with a variety of sports, and it's even a mom and pop place (they were actually working last night). There's some seating at the bar and a couple handfuls of high tables but it's pretty small overall. There's one of them newfangled jukebox on the wall and someone was playing some awesome tunes that started with Brown Eyed Girl and Time Warp. Quinn's has a pretty nice list of beers on tap with all sorts of different styles. I got a Stone Grapefruit Slam, which I've only seen one other time, and a Strongbow, which is a tasty UK cider that isn't the most common thing these days, not with all of the US brands trying to ride the cider train. I wanted to order a burger because that's what you do at pubs, but the buffalo chicken sounded too good to pass up. Totally worth it - the house buffalo sauce had a good kick and more flavors than the standard stuff and the chicken was grilled so I didn't feel like I was wasting calories. I got it on my choice of bread and threw on some avocado because who doesn't like avocado? Also upgraded the fries to garlic parmesan fries, which were very standard fries and usually not something I like, but you can't go wrong with garlic and parmesan. One thing that cemented my strong liking of this place was the hot sauce. They gave us a literal bucket of hot sauce and I love my hot sauce. I think I counted 8 or 9 different kinds (spicy ketchups, too) that ranged from normal levels of spice to something that would terrify most people. I was pretty much in spicy heaven while I tried them all. Anyway, overall this place was awesome. I love the small, local, friendly atmosphere and the impressive craft beer selection. The food is tasty and hit the spot and it was off the main drag so I could get away from the crazies. I know it won't be a full 5 stars for everyone, but it was for me! read more

Quinns is cool. It's very small. But, it's a super friendly intimate irish pub. There are TV's aroudn the entire place, so your game is likely to be on, and if it's not, just ask and they'll put it on for you. The food is good and decently priced. The beer is cold, and they have a lot fo specialty beers too, if you want to venture away from Budweiser. LOL. Overall, it's a cool place to chill. read more

This tiny pub hidden in one of the small street corners of Belmont Shore has a surprisingly good selection of beers on tap. I came in here one day with my friend Mark after having some sushi at Sushi Saurus across the street. It is rather small (think small apartment living room size) but you definitely won't have to worry about waiting awhile just to get a beer. I prefer bars like this to the ones that get jam packed and the bartenders serve certain people over others (yeah, I'm talking to you Legends). At least I can enjoy my beer and actually hear my own conversation without yelling it to my friend next to me. Probably wouldn't do it again. No seats when I walked in. The waitress convinced me to stay for dinner and even made a place for me to sit. I had the tri tip sandwich with potato salad. The tri tip was good but I didn't get a cahnce to eat the potato salad. Not great. Not bad. I'll probably never go back but you might. Wouldn't hate you if you did. They have Stone IPA on tap. I'm not a huge fan of 2nd Street, but I ventured down here to meet up with some cousins. The bar is right off the main drag of 2nd St, but it's easy to find and well traveled. We walked in and noticed immediately that it's a small place, good for a quick drink during busy times, or "quaint" for a convo with friends during off-hours. So I always see the sign that says $8 for a burger,fries and a pint of beer! Wow what a deal on 2nd St! Me and my friends decided to go and try it after a day of swimming. The FOOD was delish! You can get the sweet potato fries, the Parmesan garlic fries, or reg fries with No extra charge. Pretty awesome! I had the veggie burger and it was pretty decent, which is surprisingly hard to find! The only downside was your pint had to be like Bud lite or some other cheap beer (LAMENESS!) so we paid the $2 for a "premium" Beer. The SERVICE was pretty good, our waitress was attentive and great about checking on us. The only thing that kept this place from being a 5 star was when we went to pay the bill we wanted to split and it got super complicated! It was three people not 12! She told me my card got declined (which freaked me out!not fun!) but when I got home I had two pending charges, and then another charge on my other card...when there shouldn't have been any because my friend ended up having Her put the whole bill on his card. That was my only peeve so Lesson learned! *TIP: take cash if in a group to avoid confusion and the unnecessary hassle. I had walked by this place a thousand times over the past few years while hanging out and partying on 2nd street. For whatever reason I always took note of its existence, but never stopped in or even looked in the window. That being said, I consider myself to be an idiot. While this place is still considered a part of the 2nd street scene geographically, it is far from it when it comes to the service, selection, and crowd. I could go on for days about my distain for the negative attitudes, bad service, and all around poor business practices that so many of the 2nd street watering holes have. Cough..cough..LEGENDS..cough...oh excuse me. Either way, Quinn's shines through in opposition to these predispositions of 2nd street- this is why: Brew Selection: Wide variety of craft brew, all on tap. Puts most other spots to shame in the immediate area. Period. Not to mention the price is right for the suds that are being pulled. Food: Pretty solid selection of your basic pub style food. Burgers, munchies, that sort of thing. I also have to add- pickled eggs! They always give me some pretzels with the purchase of a brew- which I like. Entertainment: I was watching the playoffs and Stanley Cup here the past few weeks. They have a variety of flat screens above the bar that wrap around back toward the kitchen. There are also a few games to play- the bar top thing, and that big buck hunting whatever (it's usually more fun to watch drunk people play than to partake yourself). Staff and Crowd: I haven't caught her name yet, but it's been the same blonde bartender each time I've been here. Either way, she's pretty great. Friendly, accommodating and on top of her game. I really like how her (and the few other tenders I've seen) don't linger behind the bar. If you're sitting elsewhere they will make rounds and ask if you need anything. It's a simple thing, but many other places don't do it. Something like that reflects the overall feeling of being in the establishment. They're there for you, not the other way around. The crowd has varied a bit each time I've been here, but it's been a friendly atmosphere throughout. I'll take inconsistency of friendly over consistency of douche any day. Overall, this place has everything I want in a pub. It's a quaint, comfortable place to grab a brew and a burger. You can still hear the 19 year old girls screaming 'WOOOO I'm so drunk' after having 2 piss warm beers on 2nd, but at least you don't have to see it. Cheers. read more

Randomly wandered in here on Sunday when we were bar hopping between football games. The place is really small, but compared to a lot of the other bars on 2nd, it wasn't crowded or loud at all. We sat at a couple of the bar stools facing the street and ordered a couple cheap drinks and caught part of the game. The waitress who brought our drinks was super sweet and helpful and everyone in the bar was happy and quiet. I don't know how the food is, but it looked delicious...I would definitely come back here as part of a daytime drinking mission or for Sunday football.
