Been here couple times for drinks and I'd say- It is a really cool spot! Cozy neighborhood place but not exactly hole in the wall. Our bartender (ughh i forgot the name) was very friendly, explained me well about the drinks and welcomed me as I told him I'm from this neighborhood. Drinks were well made.. regular Moscow mule was much better and potent than the ginger one. They have an organized menu for cocktails and an open bar as well. Saw some good bourbon's on the shelf. Very well priced for this neighborhood- around $6-7 for a drink. They have a wood fired oven which you can admire from your bar table. Pretty cool! Yet to try the pizza's but looking forward to it. I ordered the veggie burger and it was literally the nastiest burger I've ever eaten. Idk who came up with the idea or concept but it's terrible. Definitely should be removed from the menu. I took one bite and walked back down the street to return it. Everything is just wrong and it's chopped up like slop (literally looks like slop on a bun). Idk what would advise someone to chop a patty to put on a burger bun. Please remove this from the menu and give people a normal "burger", this is not a burger of any sort. Besides the kale burger (which is not always available) this is the only vegetarian burger option. They lost cool points for this. read more

So... I'm not gonna lie. I am here because of the scathing review by DACIAN V.... BUT - it made me realize that I should have written this review a long time ago! R. Pub is the neighborhood hangout. Super LGBTQ+ friendly and very active in the community. They frequently host fundraisers for great causes and participate in parties thrown right outside the door during the summer. They offer a great place to check out the game, play trivia, have a dance party... ALL kinds of things. So far, NOTHING on the menu has ever been bad. ALL of the food is great, and creatively made. The bacon-wrapped dates are to DIE for... AND - they have a BRICK OVEN! You gotta try the pizza ... right after you've had every burger on the menu... because they are ALL awesome. If that's not enough for you, then go because they DO offer NA beer and La Guanitas Hop Water! Great if you're a non-alchy. And of course they have a full bar, packed with whatever you need to satisfy your drinking needs. Check out their amazing brunch, as well as their nightly specials. And the service is great. More than satisfactory, and if you go a few times, you will become a regular and will know the staff. He tells me that there is no list and I have to wait for one to open up. My family and I wait for 35 minutes for a table to open up only to be told there was a wait list. Friday fish -fry fish batter was like raw batter inside --doughy and undercooked even after asking for WELL DONE when i placed order on the phone. Yum, yum, yum- right in my neighborhood!! I was really surprised to see all the unique options because I assumed it would be typical bar food (wrong)! I had a really first rate salad, we split a fondue like dip and my friend had a falafel sandwich. Comfort food, big portions, fun loving staff- I'm so glad they are open late with these tasty eats. My go-to that is in walking distance of my condo. I have been coming to R Public since it opened. Good pizzas, interesting beer selections, decent wine (Douro Doc!), BBQ wings, brunches, iceberg salad with steak, and daily specials (Mom's Pasta!). Not a watered down drink to be found. The Bloody Mary's will definitely get your attention. How many bars provide pedialyte on the weekends? I don't come for fancy dining, that's not what a pub is. I do come for the camaraderie and I appreciate the community orientation of management. When's the next Debate night party? I love the pizza and the brunches at R Public House. I used to live off the Jarvis L stop and would stop in for dinner fairly regularly. The pizzas are so good and so affordable. They also always have a great selection of beer and ciders. After sticking to dinners for a year, I finally went to brunch there several years ago when three of my girlfriends were visiting and we were all blown away by how delicious it was. Together we tried the shrimp and grits, steak and potatoes (not currently on the menu), chicken and waffles, and biscuits and gravy. Everything was amazing. After relocating twice, I've returned for their brunches and have recently tried the skillet, which is very good. I love the way they cook their potatoes because they are crispy and flavorful! And the biscuits are to die for. I always make sure to order a biscuit with honey butter no matter what I'm eating. I love the outdoor dining option, which has made it easier for me to return to enjoying going out while still being wary of covid. The staff are always super nice and I love the general vibe. I unintentionally attended a drag brunch (luckily I had a lot of cash on me at the time), and it made for a really enjoyable Sunday. I can't imagine Jarvis Square without this place. read more

This is my favorite local neighborhood restaurant/ bar since moving to Chicago in June 2016. It seems like I average coming here about once a week. The food is consistently good and there's always a good selection of draft beers (minus the domestic light option, but hey - some folks like it). There's also an expanded selection of bottles and cans. I've tried a number of items on the menu - pizza, sandwiches, and apps and I've never gotten a dud. Even the specialty brunch menu on the weekends are awesome. The owners and staff are always warm and friendly and treat you like one of their own. S. salted her fried fish, the first time I've seen her salt any meal in 15 years. Small side paper cup of spicy cole slaw. Good tartar sauce. No bread. Old Rasputin stout: yum! Drinks a bit cheaper due to Happy Hour: YAY! Mediocre is the word that keeps coming to mind in relation to R Public House, somewhere between a Yelp three and four, the needle shifting over or under the 3.5 mark with each visit. We came in for a bite for a break from house hunting a year and a half ago. The friendly vibe, delicious food, reasonable prices, and great beer selection convinced us that this must become our new regular bar. We got on Zillow then and there, found a condo around the corner, and put in an offer that very week! Some of our favorites are: any pizzas, buffalo chicken wrap, totchos, and quiche for brunch. My boyfriend and I devoured these every time we came. Fried pickles and the wings are definitely a close second too. Pretzel bites were tasty too. Arancini Balls were good, but I don't really care for arancini, my boyfriend thought it was great though! Pizza - The Saucy Chick! Perfect combo of spice with sweet with FLAVOR! I'm a sucker for ranch and pizza, and their ranch does NOT disappoint! The Queen is also delicious for a meat-free option! Burger - R Public Burger! There is something about the smoke of the burger with those pickled onions that makes my heart skip a beat. Then with their house sauce added on - game changer. The Mooseknuckle is also fun and delicious, the breakfast burger tastes great too! I was always to full to ever try a dessert, but I'm positive they're delicious too. My gf and I were so exciting for R PUBLIC HOUSE to be open, after heard so many great things of their owner and her former bar. Finally we made it to this pub last Sunday for a dinner. Unfortunately the outdoor patio was full but we got a table inside right away. We ordered Cream cheese ball and Meatza Pizza which were really tasty. They also offer over 20 different varieties of beer, love it! The bonus is the owner is the KOP same as me, judging from her LIVERPOOL FC t-shirt. :) Here's the down side; - Music was too loud, everyone had to shout to each other. - Service was a bit slow due to only one waitress took care about 15 tables by herself while three staffs stayed behind the bar taking care their friends and old regulars and ignored new clients at the tables. - In my opinion if you are a new face here, you might feel like this is THEIR Public Place not R . Sorry, R Public House, but I just can't give you my business anymore. Your food is good. Your drinks are good. Your general atmosphere is good. Your service, however, has never been that good and has recently been terrible. My last three visits to your establishment have been truly awful. Sorry, but three strikes is all you get. First, there was the time that I was dining alone and decided to go ahead and sit at the bar, where I was treated to the joy of being completely ignored. I just wanted a beer and a sandwich, but that was apparently too much to ask. The bartender never acknowledged my presence. I was finally able to flag him down, at which point he silently dropped a menu in front of me and then walked away to ignore me again. Everyone else was apparently a regular and was greeted and promptly served and enjoyed some friendly banter, while I sat wondering what was wrong with me. I guess I don't count because I'm not recognized as a regular. I finally got up and left without ever being served. Thanks for nothing. Then, there was the time I was with a small group. We all placed our orders. Drinks came quickly, but several of them were wrong, and somehow my drink was forgotten. Our food took forever, and again several people were served the wrong dishes and my food was forgotten. Our waitress tried to argue with us when we pointed out the mistakes, insisting that everything was right and if we had changed our minds about what we wanted then we should have said something before she brought the food out. Even though I asked about my missing order twice, it never came, so I ended up eating fries off of one of my friend's plates. Even though I never got my food, my order was included on our bill, which led to more argument with our waitress, who insisted that she had served me my missing meal. My most recent visit was no exception. Some friends and I arrived, sat, perused the menu, and ordered. I had limited time to hang out and eat, so I only ordered an appetizer, thinking it wouldn't take as long as an actual entree. Once we order, we waited. Then we waited some more. And waited. Finally, our drinks arrived. But where was our food? So we waited again. And waited some more. We watched the tables around us being served. We continued to wait. Finally, one of our group flagged down our waitress to ask about our orders. Apparently, she had never actually put them in. There was no apology of any kind. Finally, our food arrived over an hour after we had ordered. Sadly, it arrived just as I was leaving, so I never actually got to eat anything. I have friends who love R Public House and insist that it is awesome in every way, but I have never experienced that myself. Is there something wrong with me? Am I such a terrible person that they can't bring themselves to serve me? I wish I knew what it was, but I guess it doesn't matter when I won't ever try to eat there again. read more

Love this place! Their food is delicious and perfectly priced. Staff is friendly and accommodating all the time. Karaoke is top notch here. I also love that they are active in ma y community events. I come here by myself at times and people are so friendly. Burgers-yum. Mussels-yum! Manhattan-yum yum! They also have very tasty and creative specials. I appreciate the chef trying new things. I am long overdue in writing this review as I have been going to this place from shortly after it opened. A year and change ago, I was looking for a cold beer after unpacking in my new apartment. I happened into this bar and was warmly met by the staff and enjoyed not only a nice beer, but also a pizza. It's one thing to have good food and a decent beer selection, but it takes it to the next level when the staff are all pleasant and friendly. It would be easy for them to sit back and let people come in and hang out and then just simply serve food and drinks, but that's not the environment there. The staff are very kind, welcoming, and full of smiles. The menu is not expansive, yet has something that will hit the spot for most people. There's also the big plus that there is a late night menu so that you can enjoy a snack as the night goes on. The crowd that frequents are usually good natured and the noise level is moderate. I have brought a lot of friends here and they all love it. I foresee myself frequenting there for as long as I live in the area. read more

Everyone in our group of 13 loved their choices, from chicken & waffles to steak & eggs, and no one left hungry. The prices are fair and portions are perfect. They make a good bloody Mary too!
