The spice level is no joke but they work with whatever your comfort level is and are super willing to recommend your new favorite dish. Pull up a seat and watch excellence happen. At Rachawadee, you sit at the bar and watch the owners grab fresh ingredients and whip up your favorites, all within about 15 feet. Normally I'm not a fan of places with only bar-stool seating but the service is so quick, you won't have time to get uncomfortable. Two of us shared the Summer Rolls to start which were great with the prawns. We had Phad See Ew and Yellow Curry. Both dishes were cooked perfectly with great flavor. WARNING: I LOVE SPICY food and ordered a 3/4 on their spicy-scale. A 4/4 would have been too much for me. Keep it to a 3 or less unless you have the crazy taste buds. Between the affordable prices and the speed/quality here, I would highly recommend Rachawadee. Right now, patrons are benefiting from what has clearly been many years of honed cooking skills. Tiny little restaurant off the beaten path, but great food. My wife and I eat Thai food everywhere we go, big cities, little towns, and in Thailand when we're visiting. And we'd highly recommend Rachawadee. Its as close to authentic as you can get in the US- the food isn't too sweet and they have the prerequisite family shrine and photos of the royal family to help seal the deal. This place is basically a diner/gallery kitchen with 10 to 12 stools (no tables or booths) and the kitchen wide open to you. Average dish was around $10.00- the portions were average (not huge) but the flavors were delicious! They treat their woks like they should- rinse and limited scrubbing during the day so the flavor of the char on the chicken and dishes builds up nicely. It was served quickly, served hot, and served by the chef. Great vegetables, great seasoning, great noodles/rice. The only Washington state Thai restaurant I've had that I could say is better is Bai Tong in Tukwila (not the Bellevue site). Great value, great food. If you're in the area or traveling to Canada from Seattle, stop here! read more

As others have said here: This just isn't the best Thai place in the area, but some of the best Thai food ANYWHERE. Whoever said portions were small must have hit it on the wrong day and they were running low on some key ingrediant. My experience is just the opposite. Excellt taste. Descent prices. But it's how fresh everything is that seems to set this place apart in my mind from all the other Thai places I've been to. Veggies are crisp and not slimey or overcooked and generous portions of meat in each dish. My only word of caution: 3 stars here is like ordering 4 or 5 anywhere else. When ordering, be cautios and add more from the condiment tray if needed. My only dig on the place could be that it's a small, luch counter setup. But then again, that's one of the charms of the place, too. It's a family opperation and if it's crowded, they do a quick turn around on takeout orders. Skip all the others. Ruined, I am completely ruined after coming here. I've been to thai house MV, every Thai restaurant in Bellingham, and countless others from Vancouver BC to Portland OR and this is the best Thai Restaurant bar none. I came before what I though would be the lunch rush considering they only have 9 seats (11:45) but it was plenty packed. I stuck with my thai food staple of pad Thai and had high expectations after consulting numerous friends and just reading the reviews. Holy deliciousness, PERFECT balance of sweet, salty, sour, and salty. Thin rice noodles with the perfect amount of bean sprouts and tender chicken. I'm so glad to find this little hole-in-the-wall place during my stay in Mt Vernon. The restaurant is small with mostly bar seating, though it's a pretty fun experience sitting there and watching them cooking. We ordered Pad Thai, red curry chicken, and tom yum soup. Curry and soup came out great. But my favorite was the pad thai, it was outstanding, authentic, and definitely the best I've had so far (who knows how many hundreds of different pad thai I tried). The waiter was really friendly, helping us decide the spice level that's appropriate to us as we're new to the restaurant, and his recommendation made this dish perfect to my taste. If I ever go back to the area again I'll go back there for sure! read more

Today, my birthday, I was treated to an unusually good dining experience in the most unexpected of places. Old Town Mt Vernon is quaint and even rustic but it has some quality dining establishments to be proud of. Today, however we went off of the beaten path to a side-road, a near alleyway, to sample the food of a well rated Thai Cafe. What a surprise! It was a complete joy to eat here. Side by side with strangers that were equally amazed at the visual entertainment of the Chefs and the very pleasant attitude of the owner, host. In a total of no more than 800 sq ft, this gem of a "hole in the wall" has only 12 round, soft, non-backed, soda fountain stools at the counter. The food can not be fresher. The meal prep no more engaging to the eyes. The final product no more tasty. This was a birthday gift that was unexpected! I am fearful of this place getting too popular and then too successful to stay in its britches and then we will lose the charm of my new favorite place to eat. Plan to share the joy of more than an excellent meal. This is Small Town America at its finest. So I counted, and to clear up any confusion, there are NINE seats. And they do fill up quickly after opening at 11:00 a.m. My wife and I were the first ones there, and the seats were almost filled when we left. Watching the food prep is a treat. Never before have I seen mushrooms being peeled, but I got to see it here. Yes, they do use very fresh ingredients. And you get a chance to talk with the owners. We had the lunch combos. They came with a soup my wife called "hot and slimy soup." It looked about the consistency of raw egg whites, and slid down about the same. It did taste okay. This was not the high point of our meal. The main course was very good. It was one of the spiciest dishes I've ever eaten (at two stars!), but very good. Perhaps they could have included a little more chicken, but the complaint I read earlier about portion sizes was not something with which I can agree. The Thai ice tea was also very good. I will eat here again, though I will ask for gentle treatment on the spice. Probably the best Thai food in Mount Vernon, served up quick and hot. read more

Plan either an early or late arrival if you are trying to do lunch as it seems their well-deserved popularity makes a seat at lunch hour a challenge. My favorite dish is the Pad See Ew with chicken. I generally do 2 stars of spice here while at any other restaurant, I do 4 on a 5-star scale. Friendly folks and wonderful food from the freshest of ingredients. I hope they stay just they way they are as truly, a meal here is something to look forward to. I am afraid that a change of venue might jeopardized the winning formula that Pam and Poo have accomplished though at the same time wish that I could more frequently get a seat at the regular lunch hour. Been going here for years, only taking a break when I moved out of the area. I've been to a fair amount of Thai places over the years, but this place is the best, hands-down. They are using a Thai scale on the spice rating, so if you're a little spice-sensitive, I would recommend sticking to 1 Star. If you're a spice hound, they are going to make you very happy. I'm a foodie. The Pad Kee Mao with chicken was spectacular. It is a super popular place meaning the small number of seats at the counter are always full at lunch and you may have to wait. Michael (I'm guessing one of the owners) is really friendly and knows everyone's name and usual dish. The chefs are super professional, cranking out the food in an open kitchen. Excellent! I've had takeout from Rachawadee, but this was our first time dining in. The food was excellent and the staff even better! Michael runs the show; it's a mix of chaos and calamity, but handled expertly with kindness, humor and efficiency. This place seats a grand total of EIGHT people as well as producing takeout orders - so you certainly get to rub elbows with your fellow diners. We brought our 6 month old daughter, she was fascinated by the sights, sounds, and aromas of Thai cooking. Fellow diners even held our daughter while we ate, so cool !! Anyhow, this place is a gem. This is probably the single best restaurant north of Seattle. Period. It doesn't look like much when you enter - only a bar with about 10-12 seats. But the food is fresh, spicy, and incredibly flavorful! This is the only Thai restaurant where I can't casually say 5 stars for spiciness. It is a real 5 stars. Yet the heat does not take away from the Flavors one bit. I love the fresh rolls and Phad kee Mao best, however I have truly enjoyed every dish I have eaten here. I make excuses to go to Mt. There might be seating for 6-7 along the counter, but no tables and the restroom is in the back. I would guess these guys get a bigger restaurant in a year or two, but now is the time to take advantage of this great set up. The food was fantastic and our party had all of our favorites - Pad Kee Mao, Swimming Rama, Pineapple Curry. We found the food to be really spicy. I like spice, but found the stars a little off.
