Great little "hole in the wall" former ice cream parlor in downtown Mt. Vernon. Stopped here on the way back from seeing the tulips. Great mom and pop Thai joint. There is limited counter seating only (about 10 seats) and you can watch the cooks in the kitchen in action. Great for takeout and a casual atmosphere. The waiter, who is the co-owner was friendly and efficient. I lived in Thailand for 4 years and my mother is an authentic Thai chef with her own acclaimed restaurant on the East coast so I speak from real experience and seasoned tasted buds. :) read more

Considering I have been going to Rachawadee for a couple of years now for my fried rice fix, I am surprised that I am just now getting to writing up this review. That being said, as a regular I have consistently enjoyed some of the most delicious authentic Thai food this region has to offer and that is saying a lot. Every item on their menu is a brand new adventure, a delicious journey where the faint of heart can simply drift away with each dishes signature and potent flavors, while thrill seekers can challenge Rachawadee's one to five star rating and more importantly still not take away from the flavor experience. At a two I was crying but it hurt so good. It would almost seem sacrilegious then to give Rachwadee a four and yet where the Sisters excel at delivering near culinary perfection, over the years they struggled with basic hospitality. The seating is what it is, the service is fast considering the popularity of this restaurant but the attitude from the Sisters sits between hurried and hostile almost to the point of making you feel apologetic for ordering anything. Aside from that I will continue to dine here and have no problem recommending Rachwadee. As a suggestion especially now with the influx in popularity maybe plan to order out (hence my regular consumption of their fried rice) as the space is cramped with I believe to be only 9 seats and if you are in the mood for an out of body experience spring for their Spring Rolls , I could write a book on how epic these Spring rolls truly are. read more

Execelent authentic Thai cuisine. Very friendly staff. This place is small and fills up quickly with a line outside. Spring rolls are large and filled with crispy lettuce and fennel. Had a wide rice noodle with seafood perfectly cooked. Very large portions too. Be careful of the heat. Level one heat is enough for this Italian. read more

When this place is open don't get me wrong it's really good thai food BUT seems like it is so hit and miss lately. They are no longer open on Saturdays. Truly the best Thai food North of Seattle. Seating is limited, but the counter turns over pretty quickly. Much of their business is togo it would appear. The first two times I got food from this place was amazing! No complaints. My boyfriend and I were very satisfied. But yesterday my parents picked me up what I usually get, basil fried rice with mushrooms and pineapple with NO spice. They bring me my food and there was alot of spice, it was bland and just very bad overall. I was very disappointed with my food yesterday, could barley eat it. It was so spicy it took me over an hour to even eat half of it, ended up throwing the rest away because my mouth couldn't take the heat anymore. So I have to say I travel throughout the entire United States weekly for my job. At almost every visit I have to get my fix of Thai somewhere. I see in the reviews on how good the pad Thai was and I usually don't order it because I'd like to try more unique dishes. But because of the amount of reviews to the pad Thai I got it and what I have to say hands-down the best Pad Thai in the US. I also got the summer rolls with shrimp and they were incredible as well. Next time I'm in this area for work I will be experimenting with more menu items. read more

It seems to be run by a family who takes pride in their work. They are always friendly. The food is always delicious. I am grateful we finally have a 5-star eatery in the town I grew up in. I don't think I've written a review for anywhere deserving of 5 Stars yet... Rachawadee is certainly a diamond in the rough! Located off Mount Vernon's main downtown passage (1st Street) on Gates, it's not exactly someplace you'd see from the street and think, "wow, that place is going to have awesome food." Quite the opposite, in my opinion. But, after hearing SO MANY good things, I stopped in and seriously couldn't be happier that I did. It's definitely what you'd consider a "hole-in-the-wall", long and narrow with a lunch counter and built-in stools. You may not get seats together and it's not a place to venture with more than a couple folks unless you go early or late, avoid the 11-1:30 window if there's more than two of you. They typically have three lunch specials, and they're all worth it. Less expensive than ordering from them menu by a few bucks, and you get a little phad thai and salad with whichever lunch-portion entree you choose. Yesterday it was Green Curry, Garlic Chicken and something with tofu that I ignored. I ended up ordering Phad See Mao and didn't regret it. Super fresh ingredients are prepped in front of you, then cooked to order at one end of the kitchen. Careful on the spicy factor though... this joint has peppers that are molten lava. They only do a 1-4 scale, and that's plenty. Anywhere else, I get a 2 and a spice rack. Here, I get a 1 and it's damn spicy. A 2 would be inedible for my palate. So. Good. read more

Best thai food I've ever had, but likely the worst customer experience you'll get.. their hours say they're open until 8:00, so when I walked in for a to-go order at 7:40, I assumed I'd be able to get my dinner.....nope! I was informed that not only was I out of luck, but everyone who'd called or come in after 7:10 had been shut down as well. I suppose that's a testimte to how delicious they are,(something I will never dispute), but the lack of desire to keep customers happy cannot be ignored. Perhaps they are unable to make decent food for the demand they have, which is why they so limit their hours; all I know is I'm now doomed to inferior thai food because they don't care to keep customers by offering normal business hours. read more

At first glance, this was not the normal place I would chose to eat, but I know that a hole in the wall can be full of surprises. Luckily I had read the reviews on Yelp, so I was able to find this little gem. I walked into to a tiny restaurant with no tables, only 10-12 bar seats at the counter, and they were packed! Finding the last seat available, I sat down and ordered off the lunch special board, and enjoyed the best Panang Curry of my life. The Phad Thai was excellent, a dish I have never liked from any other Thai restaurant, and that includes several good Thai restaurants in downtown Seattle. Everything was fresh, and made right in front of me. The owner was very friendly and had warned me to chose a lower star than my normal 2-3. I love spicy food, but this was spicier than usual. The vegetables were cooked to perfection. Tender, with a little crunch. The curry sauce was outstanding, with a generous portion of chicken. The portion was large enough that I will get to enjoy this meal a second time over dinner. What a nice surprise, this is not the Wild Ginger of downtown Seattle, this was downhome Thai cooking, and it was a delight to the senses. This is my favorite Thai restaurant, and I have eaten at many between Portland and Vancouver BC. It is tiny, and getting a seat can be challenging, but worth it. We often order take-out, due to the crowding. Every time I feel a bit under the weather, my husband picks me up an order of the beef noodle boat. You have to get there early to get a seat as only about 10 people can sit in this tiny place but it is so worth it. One time a few years ago my mother and I were sat at the end of the bar, next to the bar in a little kid's table and chairs so we could eat. My girlfriend and I did that once before also. Didn't bother us. The food and people are amazing. We would order their food and take it to other places to eat it by the river or at a brewery that didn't serve food. It used to be called "Mike's Just a Bite" and was great then too. People waiting outside in line. But if it is like that I also love the Porterhouse right next door and ate there two-three times a week for 25 years while I worked in Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon has many great places. read more

Great hole in the wall Thai place, with all the usual Thai menu staples. The place is small with less than 10 barstools before a stainless steel countertop. So try to hit it when it opens at 11, or come back well after peak lunch hour, else you could be waiting awhile for a seat. Went there today for the first time with three friends. 9 counter seats and a pull-out table that can accommodate two other customers. We arrived at 11:35, but all seats were taken and standing room only within 10 minutes. A number of people came in for take out orders and I suspected they worked close by. Spicy beans with chicken was delicious beyond belief. I like spicy hot, but glad that the staff warned me and I asked for 1 out of 5 instead of my usual medium as it was perfect. The complimentary cup of soup was very tasty and hit the spot as it was cold outside. I tried my friends Phad See heat level 2, which was exceptionally good, so I ordered one to take home to my wife. Food serving portions were generous. Prices were reasonable. I eat Thai food regularly in Seattle and this restaurant fares with the best that my hometown has to offer. I will definitely be back to eat at the counter and to take food home for dinner. A big shout-out to my friend, Sarah, who works in Mt Vernon and suggested that we go here for lunch. read more

This is one of those iconic, small restaurants where you almost have to hear about it word of mouth before you get the frame of mind to walk in and sit at the counter here. Best decision you can make for Thai food in Mount Vernon. I frequently order Pad Thai roughly once a week. More if my figure could handle it! Each dish is 2 true servings, so come hungry, or take some to go for your next meal. I've also had the fried rice, which is amazing too. I thought rice was supposed to be a side dish, but here they make it a wonderful meal. I've forced all my coworkers and friends to come with me to eat there for lunch, a tradition that continues as they're all hooked on it now. One of my favorite things to do is order a pad thai and fried rice and split the entrees with a pal. Word of caution! The spices are 1-2 levels more hot than other places. I've had friends order 3 star thinking it'd be nothing, wolf it down, and pay for it later! I generally go 2 stars and I recreationally eat jalepenos for fun. read more
