I have a Land Rover and the guys at Rallysport Engineering have gone above and beyond to help me figure out what was wrong. When quotes from land rover seemed way out of my range Rallysport figured out the issue for a reasonable price. My car broke down (fuses/battery/wiring went out) in the middle of the only rain storm and wind storm HB has ever seen (seemed like it at least. I panicked) I called Raul at Rallysport and he talked me through everything I needed to do. But what mostly caught my attention is that he offer to come pick me up wherever I was. This is a late review. After reading some great reviews of Rallysport Engineering, I decided to bring my 2013 WRX STI for some help recently. I've had the recurring ACVS/OCVS passenger side leak again and again. Dealerships in the past wrongly diagnosed the issue and mentioned some funky things such as a bad head gasket, seeping coolant, etc. Anyways, the dealership eventually replaced the ACVS sensor once and the oil leak started to happen again less than 10K miles. Rallysport Engineering took in my car and performed a diagnostic and gave me a laundry list of things that are recommended (no shame in bringing a neglected car so that's why I am a returning customer to get some help :D ). Both Raul and Sean were very cordial and helped so much and gave me confidence to get my car running properly again. At this point, I'm working in sourcing all the parts for a motor build including the flex fuel kit. I look forward to getting this motor built fresh soon. Thanks guys! read more

About this time last week I was stressing out about my car repair. I had called a few shops by then and every time I told them that it was a WRX and stick shift they either gave me multiple weeks wait time or did not seem confident that they could do it . When I found Rallysport Engineering it seemed like the right place because they had listed Subaru as their specialty and well of course the website is subaruorangecounty.co I got Raul on the phone and he patiently answered my questions in a matter of fact manner . That's just what I was looking for. He also coordinated with my insurance in a timely manner and got everything done in a day. I had blown my clutch and needed to get that replaced. They gave me the delivery over the weekend and that saved me a couple of days of rental ! So my reverse gear went out on my 2017 wrx. I went To Subaru and they did it want to fix it because of the miles on my car and I was over the warranty mileage. That being said I contacted several buddies and forums about who was able to work on my 2017 wrx. They referred me to "Raul" over at Rallysport. Took in my 2007 Subaru WRx Wagon. My headgaskets were blown so I was naturally worried. They were great! Communication was ON POINT. I followed up daily and saw pics of the repairs. When I got my STi new, I had a friend who worked at Subaru in their PR Department. I asked here where I should take my car for service. She said, "We take our STis and project cars to Paul at RallySport in Costa Mesa." That was over ten years ago. Late post: My car, a old Honda Civic was in pretty bad shape when I got it from the previous owner. Gave it to Raul (Rallysport Engineering) around 15 months back. He got it fixed promptly, and since then I have been driving this car with no major issues for more than 40000 miles. Remember, when I got the car it already had 175000 miles on it. With my cars warranty over I decided to shop around when the next major service was due. After googling a while I called up this place. They where very friendly and helpful over the phone. I inquired on if they could perform the service, as traditionally few places can. They said it wouldn't be a problem and gave me a spectacular price. I even had to confirm once or twice we where talking about the same service, the price was that good. On service date they found a couple of issues as they worked on it. One was pretty urgent and we addressed it right away, the other I knew I had some time with. When it was time to square up when I went to go pick it up, I saw additional discounts on my repair order. When I asked what it was about, they simply said "some of the materials and such where a little more than we quoted you so we discounted the services so we could stay within the quote" What a contrast from the dealer who at times had a surprise $100-$300 on top of the quoted price. Car is running sexy smooth again and I now have a new go to shop for anything my car needs. Highly recommended. read more

My wife has a subaru Forrester XT turbo. We have been having some weird vibrations in the front wheelbase for a few months now. We wanted to go to a specialist but didn't want to get charged up the wazoo by going to the dealers with our issue. We found Ralleysports on yelp and saw the awesome reviews and had to try them out. The owner Raul was there to greet me and was extremely friendly, personable, and made me feel at ease going to a new mechanic shop. He diagnosed the problem very quickly.. both axle joints were wrecked! Guess cross country driving could do that... well he found a great deal through his connection and his team worked very efficiently to make sure the price point was fair. Everything has been perfect ever since they worked on the car! On a side note, I myself have a Toyota Tacoma and my A.C. hasn't worked in probably over a year. I've went to a few local general mechanic shops in the area and have no official diagnosis, just head scratches and I don't knows.. so filled they the a.c. and I went on my way with cold a.c. for only few days. Raul and his Rallysport team figured they give it a go and if they couldn't help me then they would be able to refer me to a specific a.c. specialist they knew. Well an hour goes by and he gives me a call with a solution. Turns out my evaporator core went kaput. Now if you're looking for a cheap deal then expect cheap service. But the rallysport team gave me a fair price and my truck has been blowing nice chilly air since they've worked on it! With this weather we've had I truly do appreciate their great work! So to sum up if you're looking to get quality work done on your subaru, you've found your shop! It is about time for me to leave a review just to let everyone know that I wouldn't know what to do or where to go without this place! The reason I'm here today is to replace the brakes which suddenly started to make a loud noise yesterday. I called Raul as soon as I noticed the issue and made an appointment for today. I've been here for less than an hour and it is almost done! The place is conveniently located near the 55 freeway and is easy to get to coming from many directions. But what I really liked about the place the first time I came several years ago was the fact they didnt pressure me to do anything or try to upsell me but instead they told me what needs to be done now and what can wait until the next time. I've been going to South Coast Subaru for five years - until now. I've had repetitive problems in the past, but I stayed. That's another story. Here's this one and how I thankfully discovered Rallysport Engineering. My 2005 Subaru Outback has close to 140,000 miles. I'm very good about oil changes and routine service. I knew I was up for another (email alerts) so I called South Coast Subaru. The service manager mentioned this one may be costly (unlike the last one which was close to $700), he mentioned this one was going to be $699 (Just say $700 and be real please) because I will need to have my timing belts replaced. I drive to the mountains a lot, and commute to LA for work from OC - sounds like an unfortunate, yet necessary expense. Just to get a second opinion, I took it to Rallysport Engineering. I asked him for an estimate and a cost for an oil change. I also needed the brake light replaced. Again. Paul scratched his head, and said, "That's odd. 2005 Subaru Outbacks don't have timing belts. They have a drive train. I'll call Subaru of America to confirm." It was confirmed. As is my lack of trust with any scum (SCS) trying to sell me something I don't need to the tune of $700. Paul went on to say, "Look, we all make mistakes, it's human and I've made them. But nothing quite like this They should know better." My new mechanic is now Rally Sport Engineering in Costa Mesa. Ask for Paul, great guy from New Zealand. Honest mechanics are hard to find. Especially at South Coast Subaru. read more

Had my car in for service and brakes done, just to find out a few days later that my brakes were making a squealing sound. Apon bringing it back they told me nothing was wrong and was everything OK. On the drive home it got worse also start3d clunking while braking had another shop look at it and they told and showed me that my brakes were left loose and were about to fall apart. And the brake job they had done messed my brakes up. The other shop ended up resurfacing all four rotors and re conditioning my new pads that were done at rallysport. I apologize in advance to Raul for this poor review, he was a really nice guy and gave me a good deal on my service. Unfortunately though, I left pretty pissed off after my service. Raul gave me a deal for a tire rotation and oil change for $50 after I said I did not want the minor service he recommended for $110+. From my understanding a tire rotation and oil change itself would normally cost $90 according to a comment Paul the mechanic made. When the mechanic was notified that I was being charged $50 for my service, as opposed to $90, he seemed noticeably upset. When my service was complete the mechanic notified Raul that washer fluid was added and of course I was charged for this. The added fluid, something I did not ask for, pissed me off. The cost was relatively minuscule at $6 about, but I have a jug of it at home that I purchased at autozone for less that $6 and I fill my washer fluid up regularly. I didn't need it, and to make matters worse, when I checked my fluid level after the service I find that the fluid is no where near the fill line. I am very particular about my car and hold mechanics to a high standard of integrity. I feel like there was possibly a correlation between the observed frustration from the mechanic about the price I was being charged and the decision to add 6oz of washer fluid to my car for $6. Regardless this made me feel like I was taken advantage of, and I get real pissed when I ask for a specific service and get charged for additional shit I did not ask for. This is how shops instantly loose my trust. This rant may seem overboard to some and I understand that, but I also know there are others who feel the same way as I about the services they ask for so I wanted to share my experience. Moral of the story, be very specific about what you do and do not what when going to this shop. read more

First off, please take the "Mitsubishi" off that hand-painted sign out front (all class, btw)--they don't have a clue on how to fix them. I brought my car in on 2/25/2015, and spoke with the resident "Mitsubishi specialist", who quoted me $100 just to look at my car after he had his lunch, and "tended to other things". I asked if I should bring my car back in AFTER he "tended to other things", and he said no, "then I can't tend to it.". What? Was he drunk? Is this a riddle? I grabbed my keys off the desk, and immediately took my car to Hiro's Auto on Enterprise in CM (where I SHOULD have gone in the FIRST place--never looked back). Hiro took one look, grabbed a $1 part from the back, and fixed my car in under 60 seconds (not hyperbole, and not for effect) I've passed by this place hundreds of times on Newport Blvd.--now I know why. read more

Oil changes are $10 cheaper than what dealers charge you, most services will also cost less than your stealerships. He fixed things that I didn't even know were wrong with my car....I just wish my Subie wasn't dying right now. When you take a look around, you can't help but think that this place was a small garage opened up by a few dudes who wanted to work on their rally cars and then decided "Hey, why not make a bit of money on the side by fixing up other people's vehicles?" Then, every fear and doubt you have of shady mechanics charging extra on random bullsh*t repairs goes out the door as soon as you talk to these guys. I contacted Raul in the beginning to obtain a quote for a timing belt change. Responses came back quickly and (per my research on online forums) the price was reasonable with detailed line items, so I pulled the trigger. Raul tended to the business side of things while Sean worked on the vehicle. Raul was awesome to chat with and I definitely felt welcomed and respected as a guest. Sean was incredibly knowledgeable and had the courtesy to walk me through some of the inspection points. I also told him that I enjoy performing my own maintenance (only easy things) and so he shared a ton of tips and suggestions. I left with a new timing belt, tensioner, and super coolant fluid for half of the price I might have paid elsewhere for services that I truly didn't need (thanks to Sean's suggestions). They even went the extra mile, cleaning my headlights and switching out my Ken Grody Ford license plate frame for a proper Rallysport Engineering Subaru one. But best of all, I left with more knowledge of my vehicle. All in all, a very awesome group of guys who definitely love what they do and do what they love - a rare quality that highly benefits us all. For sure coming back for my car maintenance and repairs. Before coming to RSE, I had the feeling it was more aimed at tuners - people looking to modify their WRXs or get some help on builds. But I was totally wrong - if it's a Subaru, they will service it and they will service it well. Raul helped me out with a brake service, quoted me on a full service but it ended up only being a front brake service. While setting up an appointment and waiting for my car while it was getting new brake pads, I really got to see that Raul and his crew a) really know what they're doing, b) really love what they're doing, and c) really deserve all these great reviews. Scheduling an appointment wasn't terrible - and while it may be tough because they're only open M-F, Raul does do pickups/drop offs in the area and also offered a loaner car. We've been coming here for years and this review is long overdue. If you have a Subaru - this is the mechanic for you. We travel from LA County to bring our Subies to Raul and his team. Fair, hard-working, and no BS. They are responsive and thorough. From a simple oil change to trouble shooting, they're very capable. There have been times when we couldn't afford to do all the things to fully resolve an issue, and they would make sure we do what was needed to get by and be safe until we could afford to do the rest. They also look at other cars, not just Subarus, but if you're looking for someone with a passion for these cars, this is the place for you. Can't recommend them high enough! I was recommended to Paul by a friend who is a big subaru enthusiast. He said that Paul gets a lot of respect from the community and it's clear why. Speaking to him, it's clear that he's knowledgeable and experienced. He's really nice and I get the sense I'm always getting the straight story from him about what's going on with the car. I actually drove my car down from LA several times to have Paul work on it, since I wanted to make sure it was done right and that I wouldnt be ripped off. My one complaint is the cost is a bit on the high side. Last time I brought my car in for 90k service and it cost near $500. That said, I'm happy to pay to get it done right and not get scammed. read more

Take your Subaru here! Atmosphere/cleanliness: Clean and well-kept. Plenty of customer seating inside. Service: I stopped by Rally Sport after a previous shop failed to fix my check engine light problem and rough idle. Paul, the owner, listened to the progress, or lack thereof, accomplished by the other shop and had some ideas what may be causing the problem. Quality: I brought my car in the evening, and after a few hours of diagnosis the following day, Paul called and gave me an update. He suspected I had faulty spark plugs and also flushed the engine with some "special chemical" to clean any deposits in the crankcase. I picked up my car after a day's worth of work. Paul commented that the previous alignment conducted on the car was done improperly and recommended a local alignment shop that would fix my inner-scuffing tires. He also recommended flushing the chemical out of the oil after 3 hours or 500 miles. The check engine light was cured and my Subaru ran like a champ. After a fresh oil change with Mobil 1, my Subaru is running better than when I first bought it. I will return for my timing belt replacement when it's time for that. Paul does good work, and provides timely feedback!! What more could you ask for? read more
