This is, in my experience, the best ramen I have ever had in Los Angeles. I've had lots of really good ramen, and some not so good, but I must say this place just tops the charts for me. If you are trying this place for the first time, I implore you to try the Josui or Kosoba Josui Ramen. The other items are good I'm sure, but the delicious Kosoba Josui is what has permanently seared itself into my memory. Torrance is a bit far from me, so I rarely get the opportunity to eat here- The last time I ate here was 2019 pre-pandemic. It is still every bit as good as I remembered. Heck, even the prices still feel incredibly affordable versus every other restaurant (not even just ramen!) in the last year. Of all the ramen I have ever had in my whole life, this is the only place I can think of where I not only drank the entire broth afterwards, but wanted more. It is just *that* good. It is simply divine. Specifically my experience is with that of the Kosoba Josui Ramen. I can't speak to the other items on the menu. The broth was way too salty for my taste, and the chicken karaage appetizer was dry and overly seasoned. Service was disappointing since I had to wave several times just to get the server's attention, which made the whole experience feel a bit neglected. At nearly $50 for two bowls, it just didn't feel worth it. It was pretty decent. The josui ramen had good broth, and ramen was cooked well. The maze soba wasn't bad but the stir fried minced beef that was in it was really salty... I assume because the ramen was broth less they had to make the minced beef salty? My Japanese friend recommended this place to me, she said it was like the ramen from Japan. The noodles were sooo perfect! I loved that they were not soggy and not so a la dente, you can taste that they were fresh. The gyoza was also delicious! Could be better. second time coming here and I ordered the exact same items as before. Looks like they raised the prices on the menu. I ordered the tan tan noodles and chashu bowl. The tan tan noodles were alright, I would get something else next time. My biggest complaint is the chashu bowl. Last time I came here, half the meat was pure blocks of fat. Today like 70% of the meat was fat. To me, it shows poorer quality ingredients across the menu board. Sorry about being negative but hoping to see maybe around 30% fat at most. Interior is great, clean, and modern. I like the counter seats, they look unique and inviting. Staffs were friendly. I ordered to-go when they opened for dinner time. You can upgrade the ramen to the lunch combo which comes with karaage or potstickers and a side salad. I've been here about 5-7 times now and over the span a couple years. The ramen has always been great. My favorite is the kosoba josui and the karaage is solid. The combo with the ramen, karaage and salad is great if it's your first time. They used to have my favorite appetizer tantan silken tofu but they got rid of it :( . Torrance Food Crawl #414 Ramen Josui (or "clear water") started in the Nagoya area of Japan. (Trivia: Nagoya is the fourth largest city in Japan). I read a story in The Japan Times that the original Ramen Josui restaurant in Nagoya is a destination for 'ramen crawls' mainly because of the popularity of their salt ramen. The owner wanted to expand to the U.S. market and this location was planned as the first location in the U.S. Ramens are made up of five components: tare (the rich sauce that flavors your soup), broth, noodles, toppings, and oil/fat. I can't fault the ramen here at Ramen Josui in any of those five categories. The first ramen I tried here was their signature Josui Ramen, which I was told is the closest to the original salt ramen at the Nagoya location. When I first tasted the broth, I knew this was something special. The stock is made from pork, chicken, and fish, and they come together in the best possible way, a richness and blending that was almost perfect. The noodles were excellent, the tonkatsu (pork) tender, and toppings such as the midori negi (green onion), menma (bamboo shoots), nori (seaweed), and daikon slices (radish) added to a more full ramen eating experience. I've tried this ramen probably half a dozen times and loved it each time - in fact, I like the broth so much I've thought it would make an excellent soup all on its own. Another favorite has been the Miso Ramen. Similar to the Josui Ramen, the miso broth is excellent. It's broths like this that remind me that first tasting the broth is always the right thing to do when eating ramen. The wheat noodles, similarly to all the other ramens, were nicely prepared and cooked. I've never felt the need to order any extra noodles, the quantity of noodles is plenty enough by my standards. The Kosoba Josui ramen is similar but has a pork-based broth. The broth is not as complex as that in the Josui Ramen, but still very good. The Shoyu Ramen is the same except that it uses a soy broth, and while it was excellent, I prefer the Kosoba Josui with the pork broth. The Mazesoba was a ramen without broth, distinguished by its use of garlic chili oil, stir-fried minced beef, and a soft-boiled egg. This dish was labeled on the menu as spicy & hot (an orange flame icon), however, it didn't seem that spicy to my taste buds. (I believe I was told that it was a level one spice.) This dish was interesting because I don't usually have ramen without the broth, and while perhaps a little out of my comfort zone for ramen, I could see myself ordering it again. All the other ramens are fine, just depends on what you like. The Tantan Men Ramen had a sweet ground pork topping, the Spicy Ramen was exactly as advertised, and even the Vegan ramens didn't disappoint. If you would like some spice added to your ramen, it's available in four different levels, one through four. Personally, if I was in the mood for something spicy I would just go for the level two or three - level one is mildly spicy, and the level four is very spicy and probably at my transition point from an enjoyable spiciness to a 'challenge' level. There are several appetizers to choose from. My favorites include the Fried Chicken Wings and the Takoyaki (octopus balls). I didn't care so much for the Takowasa (raw octopus) and cold sliced duck, but I guess those are more of an acquired taste so I can't be too negative about them. This location can get quite busy. There are perhaps a dozen tables and a counter which is usually open except during very busy periods. If the place is full, just enter your name on the iPad at the entrance. Went here on a weekday for lunch just after opening and it was already quite busy. They have a good selection of ramen based on your preference. They have the usual shoyu, spicy miso and tantanmen. They even have vegan versions of the miso and shoyu ramen. They are known for their signature Josui ramen which is made of pork, chicken and fish stock. I got the Kosoba Josui ramen which has an added garlic oil. The ramen reminded me of a ramen I had in Japan - it was a clear broth that has a clean taste as you would normally expect from a chicken based broth. But it also has the fatty flavor you would expect from a pork broth. I think that's what makes their ramen quite unique. Their noodles are thin and slightly firm. I added an egg but i dont think it was a flavored one. We also had the tan tan tofu, spicy cucumber and fried chicken wings as appetizers. My favorite was the chicken wings because it is very well seasoned. It's like an in between of garlic pepper dry rub and a soy glaze so you really taste all the flavor in there. The spicy cucumber has a nice crunch, is very refreshing and also pretty spicy. I wasn't a big fan of the tofu but maybe it's because I'm not really used to eating tofu like that. Service was good and attentive. The server kept refilling our waters and made sure we had everything we needed. Overall, I think their signature ramen and appetizers are worth a try! The broth in the Vegan Miso Ramen totally rocked my world! Probably one of the best-tasting miso broths I've ever had. I can't quite put my finger on what makes it so delicious. Maybe it's the umami, maybe it's the organic soy broth, maybe it's the special whipped vegan miso. Probably one of the better ramen I've had in Southern California and in my life in general. The prices here are very affordable in my opinion as well. Nowadays with inflation and price increases in general, most ramen places as of today are charging between $14-16 for a bowl, but I saw ramen as low as $10.90 at this place for a decent size bowl. I opted for the spicy option with is technically Taiwanese to Japanese introduced, but I also got to try my friend's ramen that was a Josui original and it was also delicious. Both of ours were really really good. I love that you can make your ramen into a little combo for only like $3.50 more and it'll come with a side salad and gyoza (or choice of something else). There was a slight wait on a Tuesday night around 6:30, but also keep in mind this place isn't super big so it can only accommodate so many. Will definitely be back! read more

I was craving Ramen and then I found myself at Ramen Josui. Gotta love it when life works out like that. Bonus when the food and service is good too. Life is good. So, ended up here the other night. Huge empty parking lot. Almost have to wonder if the plaza is dying. I don't remember all the shops there except The Loft. Hawaiian. If you're wondering. Walk in, greeted immediately. Offered a seat at the bar. Almost neve a problem finding seating when it's a party of one. Place was more than half filled and stayed steady. Nice to see places still open and hanging on with all that's went on and going on in the world. Service was great. Didn't ask her name but she was attentive and funny. She wasn't rushing me but I think I must have surprised her because I kept ordering. From my initial order to when she handed me the check but I didn't have dessert yet. Because you know, dessert is never optional. My meal was served fast and hot. So hot that I had to let the side dishes sit for a minute. See pics. Only thing I would have liked is a bigger salad portion. Something about the dressing just worked for me and what I was having. The rest was good that I saved up half of the Ika Geso and Chicken so I could have them for lunch the next day. I was starving that evening. I could have finished everything off, including dessert. Now that my work moved offices, I'm so happy I'm much closer! What started out as a lunch with coworkers thing became a "tell all your friends about it" spot. I'm a true creature of habit and always went to the same ramen spot but I'm glad I ventured out. The location is a bit small and it'll be tough with larger parties, but it great for parties less than 3. I usually get the Josui or miso ramen with bamboo and ask for soft noodles. I think for the additional $3.50 for a side salad and either 3 piece of gyoza or karaage, the karaage is way worth it. Plus it's super crunchy, huge pieces of chicken and overall delicious. Wow - their Kosoba Josui ramen broth is super unique. It consist of pork, chicken, and fish! It is super flavorful and light. It was perfect meal on a chilly LA evening. Only thing I would say is the pork belly slices were a tad bit overcooked. I also paid +$3 to make it a combo. It came with a small salad and 3 pieces of karage (also delicious). I had a few bites of my wife's Tan Tan Men and it's good too, but mine is definitely way better. Plenty of parking. You can join the Yelp Waitlist remotely up til a certain point. It's much different than your standard shoyu, tonkotsu, etc. The broth here is on the light and clear side, it's naturally not very oily but can be changed according to your tastes. I've also recently started trying their Kosoba Josui which adds garlic oil to the ramen, it's so good. The ramen will fill you here, but it's also not as heavy as other places. There's plenty of parking and service is great. It's usually never packed which is also great, it's very common to get seated instantly. Cute and busy little spot in Torrance. Wanted some ramen last week and found this place online. When we got there, there was a small wait (15-20 mins) which was pretty reasonable for a Friday night. You actually check in on an ipad which makes things relatively easy and takes less time away from the staff. Once we were ready, we sat at the "bar" area which is one of those angled wood counter kind of things. Our waiter was friendly and service was fairly quick. The inside of the restaurant only has about 6-8 tables and 6 or 8 seats at the 'bar.' We started off with two pots of tea since it was a chilly evening. They were hot and they were tea, no complaints. I got the spicy ramen and my husband ordered the spicy miso ramen both with an added soft boiled egg. Both were not particularly spicy, but they had good overall flavor. They have these 'fireballs' of spice you can add for a cost to your ramen, but we just opted to use the seasoning and sriracha on the counter instead. To me, the fireball things would be like paying for ketchup? Was overall very happy with my dinner and liked that there were plenty of noodles with each bowl - a bit thinner than typical.
