My first time trying Thai food and it was AMAZING. Restaurant ambience: CLEAN first of all- very important. It has a very laidback atmosphere, relaxed, family friendly. Trendy, modern layout. Service: Our waiter was polite, friendly and professional. Food: Super delicious. I got the Chicken Pad Thai and Spicy Hot Basil- medium spice. Definitely more food than I could finish! The Pad Thai wasn't too soupy, a great balance of vermicelli noodles, chicken and vegetables (you can choose your noodle type, which is cool). The Spicy Hot Basil was the perfect spice level for me; not too hot, not too mild, and it was so flavorful, with spinach, bell peppers and other veggies adding to the tastiness of the dish. I'm so glad a Thai restaurant opened near our home. Rao took over the spot that was Wrap N Roll. The whole restaurant was remodeled and looked very inviting. I ordered to go, but definitely will be coming back with the whole family to try more of the food! I ordered the following: Tom Yum soup with chicken - There definitely was a good amount of chicken in it! Love! The soup was on the spicy side, but I was able to handle it. Pad Thai - Very good! My 14 yr old loved it and ate the whole thing! Pineapple Fried Rice - It was good, but felt it was missing basil in it. It included I think chinese broccoli, which was good, but the basil would've gave it that signature Thai taste. They do have a basil fried rice, but I wanted the pineapple fried rice. Maybe I should buy both and combine it?? I would order again, but without the cashews. Pork Jerky - I think these were fried. Traditionally, it's dried, but either way, it was still good. this place is not decorated like the normal thai restaurants you usually go to. its gives off this more modern "hipster" place which is kinda of cool! chatted up with the owner who seems very hipster as well and come to find out they are from socal. well that explains why i already felt like i loved the place (love socal wish i can afford to live there). now on to the food--- the singha marinated fried pork! takes the cake as the best dish we ordered! boat noodles were served in cute boat shaped bowls, but the downfall was it didnt come with much broth. the basil fried rice was really good. the pad thai was okay but was served really nicely. ill def come back again to try the other things. and to support since they took a leap to move really far and open up here. thats ambition. read more

It's been a while since a new restaurant has blown me away. Let alone be really impressed by Thai Food, but this place is AMAZING! Only been open for 3 weeks and they already have everything locked down. Nice decor, great environment, and amazing (yes, I just used amazing for the 2nd time to describe this place) authentic food as well as modern takes that does not cut any corners. The taste of the food surpasses its presentation which is surprising these days. We had the Laos Style Papaya Salad, Spicy Basil Fried Rice, Pad See Ew, Pineapple Curry. For drinks we ordered Lemonade Ginger, Young Coconut Juice, and Thai Ice Green Tea (LIFE CHANGING). For dessert we had the fried ice cream and mango sticky rice. Everything we ordered was a hit! I am obsessed with Panang Curry - might be my favorite meal ever. I was so disappointed by their version that I definitely wont be returning. 1. Service Lackluster, and when I went to pick up the food place was literally empty. Dinnertime on a weekday - bad sign #1. She proceeds to tell me that for panang curry and rice is $12.50, which is higher than the bay area prices. OK. Then when i hand her my card says "50 cents to use your card", OK. Then I see the slip to sign and its $13.50, so she charged me a dollar, OK. I'm guessing she assumed I didn't notice, but I did. 2. Food -I asked for medium spice and this was as hot as level 10 Thai Spicy i've had at the other 15 Thai restaurants i've been to, so that was shocking. - The curry mix had some weird grainy texture, no idea how you do that when typically its a soup texture - I asked for just veggies, no meat. 50% of my curry was full on mushroom and onions (like, take an onion, chop it in 4 slices, thats what it was) So in summary, no thanks, will not return even though i'm obsessed with thai. My wife and I have been dining here for about a year now. They always have good customer service and place is clean. The food has been great to fair thus far. We got the drunken noodles, which was decent this time around. The some of the noodles were clumped together. We also ordered the Yellow curry with white rice. Off the bat the curry seemed very grainy and upon pouring it over the rice it really was. It was also very separated, that it was watery in my bowl of rice. It wasn't that creamy smooth texture that you usually get. The taste was fine and I still finished it but also comparatively to other places it missed the mark. I would without a doubt come back here but I hope my comments are taken into consideration and not so much as insulting. I just want you guys to improve as I believe you are still the best Thai place in the neighborhood. I have been to quite a few Thai restaurants in my life. My friend and I were trying to find a place to eat on Saturday night. As is my Modus Operandi I like to find new restaurants I haven't tried yet and thus RaoThai came up on my radar. I ordered my usual, which I like to use as a yard stick to judge how the restaurant's food compares to where I have been in the past. What that said I ordered the Thai Barbecue chicken, the Yum Yai Salad and the Pineapple Fried Rice. The Pineapple Fried Rice was the best of bunch, tasty and a nice portion to split. Not so for the Barbecue Chicken, the portion was much less than I am used to, like a half a chicken, but the taste was good based on what I am used to. The only complaint was with the Yum Yai Salad was probably hotter than we both liked, and maybe this was because we didn't read the menu closely enough. The price is reasonable compared to other Thai Restaurants I have been to and I did enjoy the food, so I plan to return and try some other dishes. I seriously LOVE eating here. Only been here a handful of times and every time I am very pleased with my meal. For lunch I've had the crispy chicken curry over rice which is so flavorful and different from the normal chicken curry that I get elsewhere. The Kao Yum Kai Zap is out of this world. Chicken with a very unique taste paired with rice. The lunch specials are nice because you get a side of soup. There's plenty of potential for this place but there needs to be more staffing during lunch hours maybe from 11-3pm. Other than that, the menu is full of Asian fusion varieties that I have yet to try and am looking forward to. They have recently opened up for indoor and outdoor dining with plenty of space between other people and hand sanitizer readily available for guests. Update- September 8, 2018 The menu has expanded and portions were huge. They've really stepped their game up on the mixture of flavors and different cultures. I had their ahi tuna salad. It was a refreshing taste of papaya salad and the Japanese version of ahi tuna salad. What an amazing fusion. Definitely give the ahi tuna salad a try, you won't be disappointed. We had their papaya salad, Laos style, and it came with a variety of meats and sides to eat your papaya salad with. It's a great dish to share if come with 4 or more. Last but not least, their boat noodle portions have increased tremendously and still has not lost it's exotic flavors. Great job! Rao Thai Eatery is located in a nice little strip mall at the corner in the middle of three building. You will miss them if you don't pay attention! They are not very busy when I am there. Total four table included mine. One lady (I think she is the owner) take care the cash register and she is also the waitress. Two waiter/busboys take care the cleaning and bring foods to the tables. The service is slow due to the only person who can take the order or bring you the bill is the owner lady! The two waiter/busboys cannot take order or even bring you the bill! The food is okay! The Pad Thai chicken is too dry and the noodle is too sticky! The Pineapple Curry with beef. The curry is tasted very good, but the beef is over cooked! I might come back again to try another items they have on the menu. I hope next time they will have more person can take order or bring you the bill. The owner's lady is a very nice lady. My boyfriend and I love this place! Small restaurant, but great food. Our favorite item to order is the crying tiger steak, which comes with a side of veggies and a delicious sauce. My boyfriend likes their chicken pad thai, which he sometimes orders. But we usually get Tom Yum soup with chicken to start. It's not as sour as other Thai restaurants', but it's still great! We decided to try dessert once and ordered the fried banana with vanilla ice cream. The ice cream is from Gunther's, so of course it's amazing! However, they give a small amount of ice cream with way too much banana. The fried banana is okay. I have had better before. But nothing will keep us away from the crying tiger steak they serve! Service is typically good. Just warning you that when they get busy, it takes a while for the server to get to you. It's understandable since they only have 1-2 servers around and they don't expect to have a big crowd because the restaurant is small. They try their best to take care of everyone and do a great job considering everything they have to do on their own. When the place is not as busy, service is perfect, so if you're impatient, I suggest you go before their dinner rush. Overall, service and food is great! My best friend and Iove thai food! She was in town visiting and this place is literally around the corner from my house. The place itself is somewhat small with dim lighting, I'm not sure about cleanliness. They had do have a little couch stage area for people to take pictures which is cute. Summer rolls were good and the salad was great, but would've loved larger leaves to roll up the larb. The yellow curry had great flavor and the chicken was nice and tender. I wanted to come here to try out the thai food since this place replaced the old place, Wrap N' Roll. I was quite excited to try this new place since my boyfriend and I like thai food. It was also close to where I live, so it was convenient to come here to get some thai food. The taste of the food here is okay, but not super impressive. My boyfriend and I got the thai tea and that was pretty good. We liked that! The pad thai was good, except the noodles are super thin and the serving size was in a half coconut. It was pretty small. For two people, it is too small and we would need to honestly get another one for us both to eat and be satisfied. My boyfriend got the red curry. I typically don't eat curry, but the curry was not bad. The rice serving was very little though. We did not ask for more rice because we were worried we would be charged for more rice if we ordered more. Lastly, we got the Tom Kha and the soup was super thick. I personally thought the thickness made me not want to drink too much considering I am a soup lover. I wish for the soup to be not so thick and truly I wish that the serving size would be bigger. For how much they give for the serving size with the amount you have to pay, I'm not sure if I am going to come back again unless if these changes are made. read more

Arrived 15 minutes later and there was a line out the door waiting to be seated because there was only one server and cashier managing the line, calls, pickup orders, taking orders, delivering orders, and serving customers. There were about 30 people all waiting to be helped. The poor girl was doing the best she could. Whoever allowed them to open at lunch time with one worker is crazy. I waited 45 minutes for my food and finally left around 1pm. The chicken pad Thai was good but 98% noodles and barely any toppings or chicken in it. Sorry to give such a poor review during COVID, but this issue has been brought up by other reviewers, and Rao HAS TO FIX THIS! My wife and I both ordered the Drunken Noodles, and in both of our orders the noodles were gummed up and stuck together in a jumbled mess, with a lot of the noodles not being covered by ANY sauce. This is not acceptable, and I think you would agree. The veggie rolls we ordered were also mushy inside with no real flavor. My son did love the calamari, and so did I. I also would advise you to find somebody to proof read your website. Such a cute little Thai place. Unlike other Thai restaurants, this one has more modern decor and touch. I ordered the calamari, chicken yellow curry, mango sticky rice, and Thai tea. The batter on the calamari reminded me of the batter on onion rings so it starts to taste oily after a while. There are some veggies mixed in, which is nice addition. The sauce is more of a vinegar sauce which compliments the calamari. Yellow curry tasted good, but the carrots and potatoes are a bit undercooked where it's on the harder side. The mango sticky rice is my favorite. They're generous with the mango portion and the sauce is served on the side so you can control how much to add. The Thai tea tasted nice and strong. read more

My family and I had often come to Rao because they literally have the best boat noodle that I've had. Tonight we come, the menu has not been updated but I've learned that their boat noodle has increased $1 more when our waiter gave us the bill. Was it worth it? Hmmm... no, for a multiple of reasons: 1. Portions gets smaller each time I come. I think they get away with it because of the bowl they use, so it looks larger. 2. Their sticky rice for $2 not close to what I've received at other places. 3. Happy hour requires you to get a drink with it. Hmmm okay what if I don't want it? You're still charge the full amount. $8 for a beer and 5 wontons. Not sure how that is happy hours for those who doesn't drink and no it was not worth it. Yes, they've lost a customer. I'm sure there are plenty of customers that will continue to come which I think is great. As a local, I would rather drive 20 - 30 min minutes and spend my $70 elsewhere.
