I hosted a group of 12 friends at Ray's Killer Creek yesterday evening. Ray's has always been a dependable restaurant and well worth the higher prices for the food, service, and ambiance. Unfortunately, last night, many of us did not have that great experience. Ray's was recently sold to an investment group with the promise that none of the three restaurants would change. Had only one of us experienced a problem, I'd say it was a fluke, however several of us had essentially the same problem. I'm going to back up a little with some background. I help facilitate events for a meetup group and often have 3 or 4 dinners per month with the group. Ray's has always been a favorite for happy hours as well as steak specials. So our visit yesterday was expected to be just as good as it had been in the past. I fear that the new owner group has sacrificed some of the previous quality in an effort to recoup the expense of purchasing the three restaurants from Ray. I set this evening up so the group would be able to enjoy the Spring 3-course $39 prix fixe menu. The challenges started with this. I had called the restaurant to confirm the reservation from OpenTable and to ensure that the special menu would be available last night. I was assured that it would. Upon receiving our menus, there was no mention of the special, that I was assured would run until at least the end of May. There was no specials menu either. I spoke to the maitre d' and was told that the chef had said they were out of some ingredient, so he said to not put the specials menu on the table. I mentioned to her that the group was here for that menu and asked if there was something that could be done. She said she'd talk to the chef. About 5 minutes later, the wait staff delivered the special menu, encased in the vinal sleeve (so it was clear that they didn't just put them together) and were already ready to distribute. There was no mention of any unavailable ingredients. Most of us ordered the special. Draw your own conclusions about why they didn't present the special menu to our party. I'll reserve my opinion from here. Our food was delivered in an appropriate amount of time for a table of 12, however the wait staff completely botched giving the correct meals to our group. It took a few minutes to get it straightened out. They apparently didn't care to realize that some were blackened and others broiled. The food was not even luke-warm. As I I said before, it came out in a reasonable account of time, so it wasn't as of the food had been sitting for any length of time in the kitchen. One of my shrimp was severely undercooked. None of this is characteristic of Ray's before the new ownership. I will point out that the restaurant was only 1/3 full, so it wasn't a matter of the kitchen being too busy either. We would have had a better meal at Chili's for less money. read more

My server put her fingers in my glass before pouring water in it. She asked if we wanted bread at the table and we said yes. A few minutes later she came back and asked if we were having bread and we said yes. I told the person who brought out our food we wanted bread and no one ever brought it. Ray's has always been a favorite place to take out-of-town company. At the request of a visiting friend, who remembered a delicious meal there years ago, we dined there last week. (Note: We were hopeful, having had our first and only disappointing meal at Ray's with friends last spring, which we wrote off as the real chef being off or out sick.) Tonight we learned the Ray's of old is dead and gone. The greatest disappointment was the food, but the lack of service was close behind. This night, we chose to sit at a high top in the bar area even though the dining room was available. With only two other couples in the bar, it was at least ten minutes until we were acknowledged by the bartender/waiter and his trainee. Both were personable pleasant, but did not work in tandem. Except for the time the trainer finally came to our table to rescue the trainee who was apologizing profusely while struggling to open our bottle of wine, the only other time they were at our table together was to say good night and pick up the check. The kitchen was slow; visits to the table were infrequent --to the point of not having cocktails beverages, or water refreshed, eating unseasoned steak because we couldn't find anyone to ask for salt and pepper, and sitting way too long with finished appetizer, salad, and dinner plates. Perhaps each of the waiters thought us the other's responsibility? To wait patiently for service only to find the waiter (in this case the trainer) more focused closing prep, e.g., restocking and sweeping, was unsettling. (At this point, there is only one other couple eating at the bar directly behind the waiter, who repeatedly banged his broom underneath a fixture behind the bar, fixated on dislodging something on the floor. The couple at the bar were in the eating. ) The trainee was no where in sight. I mean, where even am I? Unprofessionalism and poor decisions made by staff can happen anytime anywhere. Our expectation was the food would make up for the lack of service. It did not. The only dish served that was up to Ray's standard was the fritter appetizer. My scallop entree was cooked perfectly and had a nice flavor but included grit. The other two entrees ordered were steak filets. Comments made referenced a noticeable decline in the grade of meat being served. The twice baked potato was barely warm. The asparagus was crunchy. The bartenders/waiters continued to stock the bar and clean for 20+ minutes before one of us got up to ask for the check. We left the restaurant 40 minutes before closing. Sadly, I learned from other friends that our experience was not an exception. They commented on the overall steady decline of Ray's since new ownership, surprised we didn't know! I can't say enough nice things about Ray's! We went for the Sunday brunch and while it does require a credit card to make your reservation, it's worth it once you walk in and see what they have. They have anything and everything you'd want- waffle station, cinnamon rolls, fried dough, anything you'd want for breakfast and also prime rib, chicken, Mac and cheese, and pretty much anything you'd like for lunch! Nice spot for a date night if you want surf and turf. Good service and I love that they had live music on a Saturday evening. We got: Goat pimiento cheese fritters: Not goat cheesy at all like I feared it might be. In fact, all I tasted was cheddar and a tad of pimiento. The fritters were in golden crispy orbs fried to perfection and the cheese was oozing and gooey on the inside. Caesar salad: The baby gem lettuce reminded me of romaine, which threw me off texturally. I also didn't like their caesar dressing, which was unfortunate considering that's the main focus; it tasted like bottle caesar dressing to me. Lastly, the salad was way too heavily dressed and it made the entire dish inedible for me. This was my least favorite dish. Brussel and cauli: The cauli was the star of this dish as it was roasted to absolute perfection. I think the brussels could've been roasted a tad more, but it was still fine. The tangy sweet dressing/sauce was a treat and this dish was very appetizing overall. Cremini mushrooms: Pretty standard coked mushrooms. Not much to write home about but you get a lot and it's nice if you like mushrooms like I do. Domenico steak (16oz ribeye): It came out a perfect medium rare and it was sliced before being served. Tasty and worth every penny. Lobster tail: We really wanted that surf option and the lobster tail did not disappoint. It was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Key lime pie: This was the star of the night. Fresh whipped cream, velvety tangy lime center and a delicious buttery crust--mm! If I had to say something, the crust was a bit crumbly but nothing I'd cry about. Also, I preferred the key lime without the whipped cream as the whipped cream took away some of that tartness, but it'd work well for those who like lighter, less tangy key lime pies Overall, the mains and desserts were great, with the appetizers and sides needing some work here and there. I went to Ray's on a Saturday night with three friends. Two of us are in our 70's. Two are in their 80's. We are all widows. Nice ambiance. Super sweet server. Crab cakes were the best ever. For the most part, our meal was good. Here's the problem: the menu said rolls were $6. It didn't say how many. I told my server to bring some and bill me. Four came to the table. $12. Okay. It is what it is.. We all ordered water. They asked still or sparkling. I mt should have dawned on me, but I knew I wasn't in France. We said still water please. We should have known when it came in glass bottles. $9/bottle. We were brought two bottles so an extra $18. We should have said tap water, like one does in France.... We ordered a piece of butter cake for $12 and shared it. We went to Ray's because it was near the movie theater we went to. I've been to upscale restaurants that still give free bread and water. I knew the bread would cost but it doubled. I didn't expect the water to also be an up charge. We will be more careful the next time. We will research the restaurant beforehand and we will also have to make sure before we order if there are up charges. Let's face it: at our age, we just have to work with the brain cell we have left. We have decided not to go back to Ray's. It's clearly out of our budget. Sadly, we aren't in the class of people who can afford to not inquire about the prices and amounts, sadly. My 87 year old friend ordered a glass of wine. She wasn't asked what size. She was given a big glass: $26. It's embarrassing to have to ask how many we get and if there is a charge for everything. We had hoped tonight would be a relaxing night, but as elderly widows, we just don't have much discretionary income, especially after the holidays. None of us can be in the work force anymore. If we have to forfeit going to three dollar bill priced restaurants at our age, it's a small price to pay for the blessing of being alive in our elderly years. We aren't very suave I guess. We have now decided just to try not to dwell on our regrets and embarrassment, to let it go and just be grateful to have had a wonderful meal and a full life. I guess the saying is true: if you have to ask how many you get or how much it costs, you probably don't belong there. We have finally lived long enough to be a Golden Girls episode. read more

K liked his Delmonico steak (8.5/10 which is a winner to him), but we weren't crazy about the 4 cheese macaroni. It tasted like aged cheese or something. The service was phenomenal! Our server, Genesis, even brought us hot washcloths that she added eucalyptus to and was pleased when I recognized the scent. She told us about the Sunday buffet brunch, so we'll have to check it out. It was easy to get a reservation on Opentable, but I had to save my apple pay to hold the reservation. Tried for the first time tonight. We started with the bbq shrimp appetizer which was good but cold. I had the ribeye. The ribeye was very good and so was the steakhouse lettuce wedge. My wife had the shrimp scampi linguini which she didn't like. The corn crème brûlée was awesome, and the sprouts and cauliflower were good too. Nice building but a little noisy although they had live music which was nice. Service was slow. Despite reservations and getting there early it took over half an hour to get our order placed. Thanksgiving Day - $75 per person. We made reservations months in advance and I expected more from Ray's Killer Creek. The service and ambiance were fine. The brunch was poorly organized with no thought as to how one proceeds through a line of brunch/dinner items. The food was mediocre at best. No one item stood out as spectacular, especially not the turkey (probably pre-made & purchased through a Sysco-type vender). No turkey carving station and no dark meat available. The shrimp cocktail shrimp were not deveined/cleaned and were "peel & eat"...hardly what one expects at an upper-tier restaurant. The desserts lacked any creative thought and appeared to be the cheapest possible items to serve many people. Very disappointing dinner overall. read more

I have been a resident of Roswell/Alpharetta since 1993. I have frequented the "Ray's" brand for years, especially in Atlanta. A neighbor of mine recently invited me to Killer Creek for a drink. I had not been in years and accepted the invite. We had a lovely time and on that particular day I really needed a place where I could go and just escape some of the things that I was dealing with at that time. Fast forward to today, I met Malcolm. Malcolm is a bartender and from the moment I sat down, he saw me. He treated me like a person, first, and a customer ... never. I will be back and will make sure that when I do go, he's there., By the way, the day that I was there with my neighbor, the bartender was a different gentleman, but he was equally as lovely. First time at Rays. It was a really good experience. The place is really nice and feels clean and inviting. The service was really good. Our server made really good suggestions. Cocktails 10/10. Appetizer 10/10 pimento goat cheese fritters. Great balanced flavors. Salad 8/10. Really good wedge salad probably too much dressing. The dressing has good flavor but it was too thick. Delmonico 10/10 one of the best steaks I've had in a restaurant. Great flavor and perfectly cooked. Pecan crusted sea bass with asparragus and puréed purple potatoes (night special) 6/10. Too sweet and grainy pure, asparragus were too thick and fibrous. Very little portion of sea bass. Not a good balanced dish. Gouda twice baked potato 6/10. Baked potato that was hard at the bottom topped with Gouda cheese. Nothing spectacular. Wines 10/10. Will gladly come back to try other options on the menu. read more

**Reviewing the Sunday brunch buffet** I dined here for Father's Day & we visiting during the Sunday brunch menu. The ambiance was dim, calming, and reminds you of a fine dining steakhouse, For $50 a person, I believe the variety of food that was offered at the buffet was worth the price. I do believe there should be a kids price or menu offered during this time. Paying $50 for a 5 y/o to eat was hard to swallow: All the items on the buffet line we tried were very tasty. We enjoyed the chicken tenders, crab, prime rib, and more. The food was well replenished, fresh, and displayed in a nice manner. The drinks weren't that strong, but there was a nice variety of options. The buffet room can get kind of tight and hard to maneuver around at peak times & you might have to wait in line for a couple of minute before getting started in the buffet room. I was sad to not see any hand sanitizer anywhere in the room or when people enter. Lastly, the service started out slow, but turned itself around once we asked for some assistance. So we went for brunch buffet and let me tell you! O-M-G! So delicious! Buffet is somewhere around the $40ish range and there were maybe 1 or two things I was not a huge fan of (pork sausage, that's you) but overall, everything else was great. The selection was big enough that even if you wanted to, you would not be able to fit a little bit of all on your 1st plate, you need to return. I'm under the understanding that the selection will change as well. Apart from that, the place is beautiful, large, clean and with great staff. They will also have live music at times so that's nice. Ray's was outstanding! I recently had a private event here for my dad's Retirement party in their Terrace room and need to share how lovely it was. Heads up, this review might be lengthy. Event planners: I am out of state (live in Texas) and planning an event from afar is not an easy feat. The event planners, Jennifer and Erica made this such a seamless process. They were very easy to communicate with as they answered all my questions in a timely manner and ensured all my needs were met. The day of the event they were accommodating to my arrival and made sure everything was ready for me, as promised. The food: OMG! The food was AHMAZING! We had a variety of appetizers from veggie cruditees, bruschetta, chicken tenders and multiple types of hot/cold seafood. By far the lobster bites, goat cheese fritters, and crab cakes seemed to be a crowd favorite. All of the seafood in general was cooked perfectly and displayed in a beautiful presentation. I was running around like a crazy person and was not able to take pics of most of the food, sorry. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the chicken satay, it was a little dry. But again disliking 1 out of the many different items isn't bad. The staff: I have to say the staff was on point. Our bartender, Travis was so friendly and charismatic and entertained every guest he encountered. He made some mean Moscow mules and mojitos btw! 10/10 recommend. Liz and Luanne were the servers and I felt like they made my dad priority. They ensured he had first dibs on hot appetizers and were so so friendly with everyone. They were so easy to work with and seemed very happy to be there (which I feel you don't see often with large events). The three of them were so great and worked so hard to ensure all our guests were happy. Overall my experience at this location was stellar. My dad was so pleased with everything. Enjoyed Sunday brunch at Ray's Killer Creek location in Alpharetta. Like all Rays it's best to make a reservation. They also prefer for most of your table to be there before you're seated. In rankings of Ray's this is probably second to the one in Sandy Springs but definitely better than downtown. The brunch selection was limited(no soups, fewer seafood options etc), but still great! Brunch is buffet style with pastries, heated apps, carving station, fruit, desserts and omelets made to order. I enjoyed the smoked salmon, quinoa salad, roasted Brussels sprouts, peel and eat shrimp(although some still has veins), crab legs, and key lime pie the most. Fried chicken, waffles, shrimp and grits, smoked trout, sausages, breakfast potatoes and more were also available. We enjoyed a sampling of brownies, cheesecake, and key lime for dessert. 2 Stars might seem harsh, but by Yelps definition, 2 Stars is "Could've been better". I think That description is accurate. I have been coming here for 4 years and think my last visit was my last visit. The restaurant is a ghost town and on its last legs. I have experience a very steady and consistent decline in food quality and service over these 4 years. I was excited to see that new management took over, but that actually just dropped quality level substantially and is likely my reason for never returning. At the end of the day, the food doesn't taste good and the menu is bad. The prices remain high for the service and food quality. This is Atlanta fine dining cost at a suburban Outback Steakhouse quality. I've tried the majority of the menu. Story of my "last" visit. The staff was no where to be seen. During my most recent visit, despite calling in. There was no host or hostess. I wandered the restaurant until I found an employee. I ordered the Bone in Ribeye. It was served without any flatware from kitchen staff. I was in a good mood the whole evening, so this didn't bother me at first. I waited about 10 minutes. I Started to walk around the empty restaurant and found a bar tender who had flatware they could give me. The waiter of course shows up about another 10 minutes later and was bothered I found my own flatware and did the whole "I was going to bring it". Overall, poor quality food, poor service, just not a good place to eat anymore. read more

Our service was great and it was her first night and she really knew her menu. Did have a bit of a mixup with the cocktails. The runners poured my dates dirty martini into my lemon drop glass And my lemon drop to his dirty martini glass with olives. But they got that straightened out. My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner. We choose to sit outside and it happened to be a beautiful evening. Our servers were Malcolm and Liz and they were absolutely outstanding. Though they were wearing masks, you could definitely see the smiles in their eyes and hear it in their voices. We ordered appetizer, soup and salad, entree, dessert and drinks. Every course came out in great timing and the drinks were phenomenal. I took every bit of left over food home as all the flavors in the items I ordered was perfectly paired. Liz brought out a surprise cheesecake and 2 glasses of champagne for us to toast our anniversary. We ordered the steak medium and it came out super rare. After waiting 10 minutes, we asked to have the steak redone. The waiter admitted he put the order in wrong. Keep in mind it was already sliced for us. When it came back it was the same steak put back on the grill in pieces and ruined, full of grill grease and reassembled. Why would you do that? Disgusting. Took forever for the appetizers to come out and they were cold and mediocre. Dinner entrees were barely warm. It must have been karaoke night because the performers were not good at all.
