Ray's Rentals in Pacific Beach was the perfect shop for our stay in San Diego. The shop's location couldn't have been more convenient, just a quick walk from our Airbnb, which honestly made the decision easy. I didn't even bother price shopping, even though there were plenty of similar rental spots nearby, because the rates already seemed like a great value. Inside, the place is packed with every kind of recreational gear you could want; bikes of all kinds and sizes, surfboards, rollerblades, wetsuits, and more. It's clearly a well-stocked shop that caters to just about anything you'd want to do near the beach. What stood out most, though, was the staff. Everyone was super friendly and helpful, making the experience quick and easy from start to finish. Kiernan (and the gentleman who worked the next day) were awesome -- welcoming, upbeat, and made sure we got exactly what we needed before heading out. If you're staying near Pacific Beach, Ray's Rentals is absolutely worth checking out. Just a heads-up -- they do require a deposit for rentals, at least for the bikes. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCAM OF A PLACE. We were told of a price. When we arrived were told that the rental price was $40 + a $500 deposit. Before paying it I decided to read the reviews and many people said that they never got there money back. So we walked to the store close by and got 2 bikes for $40 and no hidden fees. Real easy rental shop. Workers are chilll. 2 hr rental, but ended up 2.5hrs ish and no extra charge. Wet suite and board for 2 came out $65. Pretty decent prices. You can park your car in the alley while loading up and same with drop off. Be sure to try your best to clean your boards but they chill bout it. This rental shop lives a few blocks from the Pacific Beach boardwalk. 3. Pricing. The cruisers we rented were $10 for the day. They also had locks and baskets, which were clutch. 4. Helpful and quick staff. We were in and out. 5. While we only came in for cruisers, they had a wide variety of items to rent at a reasonable price! Had my kids been with us, they'd have had just what we would have needed, too. We stopped at Ray's Rental on a Friday morning, it took us a whopping ten minutes to select four appropriately sized bikes, two baskets, two locks and pay. Drop off was by 6PM. Great little rental shop in a highly trafficked, easy to access area. We rented bikes for the day and had a great time cruising around town. They made the rentals easy - we ended up being out longer than anticipated and the process to pay a little extra was easy (and explained in advance). They helped us figure out where to start our journey and they also provided helmets. I didn't like that they record and keep your credit card info on file while you're gone - seems like a recipe for identity theft. Ray's Rental also has an online discount for those looking to save a few bucks. For $30 for an all day rental of surf boards and wet suits, it was worth every penny. Ray's was the perfect spot to rent bikes! We got to the beach a little late and most shops closed at 5pm. I was on a mission to rent a bike and luckily found Ray's (which closed later). We rented bikes for an hour, which cost only $10!! You can't beat $10 for an hour of riding on a beach cruiser. Have repeatedly returned to rent bikes at Rays for the past three years during each of our stays in North Mission Beach ; a total of 8 times. They are super nice and accommodating and always offer us a deal for extended stays. Bikes are well maintained and I've returned numerous times for a seat adjustment and they happily help me out. First pros: The man who helped us rent bikes was relatively friendly. Covid 19 friendly Cleaned the bikes before we rented Cons: Bikes were terrible. Worse than bike-share bikes from nyc (citi bike) or la (metro bikes). Difficult to go up hills and couldn't go more than a few miles per hour. Would recommend renting higher quality bikes. Also relatively expensive at 20 dollars for 4 hours. I have rented much better bikes at lower cost in bigger cities like nyc. Close early at 6pm. read more

Turns out I'm no longer capable of rollerblading (especially on the busy pb streets)! I promptly went back to the store after this discovery, where they kindly swapped out my rollerblades for a bike. It's an alright place to rent a bike. Location is great, the price is good. The bike quality is dangerously awful. We rented a tandem bike and the front break was inoperable, luckily the pedal breaks were okay. When we told about it at the return, the front desk person indicated by their body language that nothing was going to be done about it. The chains were rusty as well and the pedals were not synchronized. Being vivid bikers my husband and I managed fine. And to be honest, this will remain a more memorable experience due to all these issues. And we would probably rent from the same place again if we're back at Pacific beach. read more

Rented Beach cruisers for labor day weekend! (Rental prices increase for the holidays!) They were friendly and speedy. Only one customer ahead of us. However their store front doesn't say ray's rentals just bike rentals (at lease we couldn't find it!) So we were a little confused as to if this was the right place. The check in deal worked! Got a free basket for our bags! My bike started off ok, but a couple miles into our ride, it started to make a metal scraping metal sound for the duration of our ride... a little scary, but people could hear me coming! We come down here about twice a year from Temecula to rent bikes and ride by the bay and always rent through Ray's.
