Red 36 is a great spot in Mystic - the restaurant scene in Mystic is awesome and this is one of my favorite spots for the ambience, food and drinks. I've been here many times and love the coastal decor and beautiful views of the water. I typically get a cold lobster roll and a painkiller. They make a great painkiller and the lobster roll is always fresh and has a good amount of lobster meat. Definitely recommend checking out Red 36 if you're in Mystic! read more

The place is packed and seems super popular. We had to wait 45min which we didn't mind because we got to walk around old mystic which was wonderful. However, the food was quiet the disappointment. Since we waited a while, I was able to see people shocking oysters at the front. I am not a professional oyster shocker but I do it at home too and know something about shocking and these people were very rough and definitely not professionals. We decided not to order the oyster after we saw that. Clam chowder- more of Potato cream soup to be precise. Hard to find any clams. Linguine and clams- overcooked soggy noodles- uneatable. Felt like eating someone else's leftover at very high price. Steamer- the only reason this place even got 3 stars is because of this. It was delicious. However, be ready to find bits of sand in the meal. For the owner of R36, please let you cook place the clam in fresh water for 20 min before cooking so they spit out the sand. Awesome place here right on the water with all the big boy toys (boats). The interior has the perfect shoreline restaurant feel to it. Food came out pretty quick and everything was delicious. We started out with the lobster macaroni and cheese and bang bang shrimp appetizers. For the mains we had the Filet mignon special, linguine & clams, and the seafood paella. Everyone cleaned their plates. I highly recommend this place. They have their own parking away from all the downtown congestion that comes with Mystic CT during the nice weather months. I had previously had a negative experience with Red 36 but gave them another try and I'm so glad I did. Let me start by saying that they do not take reservations during the busy season and there is ALWAYS a wait. The plus side of this is, you get to wait on the beautiful deck overlooking the boats. The extra extra plus side is, if you wait on the deck closer to the parking lot, you can start a tab with the bar and a server with bring you drinks :) !! . We waited about 45 minutes for 2 people on a Thursday evening (during torrentially down pouring storm). We were seated in an upstairs loft with no views of the seaport. The restaurant is "open air" style, so your chances of having a table with a great view are pretty good. THE FOOD - for appetizers we had the ceviche, mussels, and bang bang shrimp. All were SO SO SO good. For dinner I had the scallops and they were also phenomenal. Pro tip: make sure you ask for your martinis with top shelf vodka. My friend and I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We did not have a reservation but were lucky enough to get a table. We sat upstairs with a beautiful view of the water. For an appetizer, we shared the salmon chips. While they weren't what we were expecting, they were very good. For our meals, my friend ordered the lobster grilled cheese and I ordered the lobster roll. The lobster roll came in two different options; hot and buttered or with a lemon aïoli. I opted for the hot and buttered and it was delicious. My friend really enjoyed her lobster grilled cheese as well. My only complaint would be that the french fries were undercooked. Our server was very friendly as well as very attentive. Overall it was a great experience and I look forward to returning for another meal. However, I highly recommend making a reservation because as we were leaving the wait was over an hour. read more

Thanks to a suggestion from my friend, we came here with a friend this past weekend. There are two parking lots in front though it can be tough to get a spot in either one. Might have yelled at a woman who stole the spot I was signalling into... Road rage aside, we got a table outside which faces a marina area. It was pretty busy here so we didn't have the speediest meal but guidelines are tough now so I didn't fault anyone. They have a nice, varied menu in case seafood isn't your thing (including burgers, flatbreads, chicken, etc). I got the shrimp burger + fries. They also had a Two Roads sour on tap, which was very refreshing on a super hot day. The shrimp burger was very good - it tasted more or less like a crab cake, but I loved it. It had a crunchy kind of slaw on top of it too that added some nice flavors. My husband and friend enjoyed their dishes, too. I would definitely go back here next time I'm in Mystic, though there was a crowd outside waiting to get in. Very busy spot, especially on a weekend. Hands down, the best part of Red 36 is the view and the chill atmosphere they create. This was my first time here. A family member recommended I should stop here for lunch on my drive up to Newport, RI. The place is only about 2 miles south of the I95 turnpike. It is located on the Mystic River overlooking the river and local marina. I arrived here around noon. Wall-to-wall windows and water views set the tone here. The windows were all open around the perimeter of the tables. I was seated a nice table for two near the outside perimeter of the deck overlooking the various boats that were docked at the marina. It was a beautiful brisk day. Check out the views from my table. Many boaters are familiar with the saying, Red, Right, Returning, meaning the position of the red buoy should be on the right side of the boat (starboard) when returning from sea, or heading upstream or toward the origin or headwaters of a water body. I started with my usual painkiller cocktail with Pussers gunpowder rum, OJ, pineapple, coconut cream and nutmeg for $12. I enjoyed my blackened swordfish BLT, with bacon, bibb lettuce, vine ripened tomato and house-cut French fries for $15. I ended my lunch with a Beer'd Brewing Co., Dogs N Boats double IPA draft beer for $9. The lobster grilled cheese was $23. The seafood here is indeed mystical. A glass of wine was around $10. We ended our lunches with a total bill of $83 less gratuities for the two of us. Suzanne is an experienced professional server, who advised us well. Nestled in the luxurious docks of Mystic harbor, Red 36 delights guests in a scenic splendor of local grub as a tourist hub. While we had already eaten prior to arrival, the smells of flavor filled the restaurant with delectable delights and stunning plating (the steak looked PERFECT and the wedge salad was a jealous dream). We enjoyed cocktails on their outdoor seating tucked away against the boast dock which was the slice of paradise sought out for a day-cation. Our waitress Caroline was not only friendly and helpful, but also incredibly attentive for outdoor seating. Her friendliness was coupled by her willingness to bring multiple drinks to us, even at close to closing and last call. We ordered a variety of appetizers (fried oysters, bang bang shrimp, pulled pork sliders, cream and clear clam chowder) - everyone liked the food (have had better versions of the clear clam chowder). Also ordered the fried chicken sandwich, white sauce clam linguini and the seafood paella (so-so for the diner). Overall, the food quality seemed very good, but the portions for the clam linguini and paella a little smaller than expected. It was a pricey meal ($200 including cocktail) but we enjoyed our seats and marina ambiance on the upstairs deck (we luckily brought hoodies). Saw the Acela train a few times. 4 stars due to very friendly, quick service and helpful staff (very nice waitress helped us with the stroller for upper deck seating), and our table waitress got us everything we needed. This is a beautifully set place on the marina. It's so lovely to come here for lunch or drinks on a sunny day. The deck is all in glass, and it's so reflective and pleasant to sit there while watching the marina. It feels a lot like Newport, or another popular beach town. The seating can be at the bar or at the lounge with a small fire pit at the center, which wasn't active when I was there. I was with a group of 5, we had appetizers and drinks. Everything was very delicious, but a bit costly. The service was pleasant and timely. The nachos we got to share were a nice, medium sized portion, with homemade guacamole. The oysters were fresh and tasty, according to the rest of the group, I personally didn't have any. And the flatbread was the clam and bacon, this was also good, but too salty for my taste. Tiki Torch is the cocktail I got, it sounded interesting, so I got it. This is a pretty unique blend of flavors, that I really enjoyed, it's sweet, peppery, and spicy, and it's presentation was really fun too. There was a little, tiny flame burning from the lemon slice, that sat on top of the drink. The flame lasted 1.5 seconds and then it was gone, this is a $16 drink, I'm pretty sure at least $4 of those $16 went to the short lived flame, if you blink, you'll miss. Nonetheless it was a very tasty drink. I recommend this place because of the beautiful setting, fast and friendly service, and tasty food. read more

Oof - the BEST lobster rolls I've ever had. Red 36 is tucked off the main drag of Mystic but well worth the short walk or drive. Due to the long wait, we ended up ordering to go and enjoyed our lobster rolls from Adirondack chairs out front while watching the boats sail up and down the Mystic River. Really enjoyed my dinner with friends at Red 36. We put our names down to eat around 6:15pm on a Sunday & were told the wait was going to be 1.5 hours for our party of 6, which was fine with us. It ended up only being a 15 minute wait, at which point we promptly got a call inviting us to come back & be seated - great surprise!! The drinks were delicious, as was the food. On Sundays there is a DJ that plays from 1-7 which was fun, and the views are fantastic. I ordered the Thai Peanut Calamari & the Beer Battered Fish & Chips. Both were good, but I wish the fish was not served over the fries, as this caused them to be a little soggy. I came here for Happy Hour for the first time and really enjoyed it. My friend and I found empty seats at the bar right away. Happy Hour is Monday- Friday from 4-6pm. We came on a Friday. The Happy Hour Menu includes $3 off house wine and draft beers as well as specials on appetizers, grilled flatbread and buck-a-shuck. Red 36 does have a gluten free menu but it does not match up with their Happy Hour menu so it was a little hard for me to compare but I found out the nachos could be made gluten free ($8 happy hour) and the oysters so I ordered 5 of them for $1 each. My friend got the grilled chicken flatbread off the Happy Hour menu for $8. We wanted cocktails because they looked delicious but had to get them at the normal price of $12 since they aren't on the Happy Hour menu. My friend got The Painkiller and I got On the Mark. We really enjoyed our drinks that we got. If you look at their website, the drink menu only includes their beer and wine offerings but they had much more on a cocktail menu when we went. Red 36 is in a great location right next to the water in Mystic. There is a good amount of parking in the parking lot and on the street near the boatyard. I would definitely go back! read more

My grilled cheese was a bit soggy and lacking in flavor. I did think the atmosphere was fun and they have a really neat lounge area with seating for large groups, plus two bar areas. A group of 7 of us had dinner here back in July to celebrate a birthday. It was actually a reunion of sorts with all of us coming together in Mystic from various locations: Bridgeport, Long Island, Los Angeles and Rochester, NY. We picked Red 36 because of the large dining space, with inside and outside tables, and the great location right on the Mystic River. We felt it was a little hard to find because you have to weave through a bunch of back streets to get to the parking lot, but there was plenty of parking once we got there. When we arrived, there was already a wait, so we put our names on the list and went to the bar to get drinks. We waited a little over an hour to get seated for dinner, but it was the perfect time of day for enjoying our wine on the wrap-around porch, looking out over the river as the sun set. This place is great for drinks and outdoor dining and also for the party-like atmosphere. Food though is sort of hit and miss, with large portions of food (think pasta dishes) that are not that well prepared or seasoned - more volume than quality - and seafood specials that are really expensive. Desserts though are REALLY good, and we had one of everything on the menu and loved them all. We also really appreciated that they put a candle in the birthday girl's dessert when they served it, even though we hadn't given them any other advance notice than telling our server as we got seated. I would go back and would consider this a great spot for a special occasion, maybe also a splurge for one of the more expensive main dishes. read more

Took nice 1 1/2 ride and wasn't disappointed. My man started off with some oysters which he had option of 3 locations in Rhode Island where they came from. He chose mystic and said they were great ! I had the most amazing burger and fries I have ever had. People hate that I love my burgers hockey puck well but this burger was still juicy and cooked just as I asked WELL . Made my mouth water. My boyfriend had the sesame crusted salmon burger with parm fries and was just as happy. Didn't get anything fancy but was delicious and the food walking by looked insane. Our waiter I think his name was Austin was so on top of things. They were super busy and he sti still was on point. This was our first trip to Red 36. We ordered clam chowder (creamy), appetizer mussels, and a hot lobster roll, plus 2 glasses of White Zinfandel and Diet Pepsi. The total came to $79.98. The clam chowder had big clumps of flour that was very poorly incorporated into the creamy soup base (in multiple mouthfuls), a little less than half of the mussels were not inside their shells and the broth was lackluster, the hot lobster roll was good but not great. On top of everything, there were flies all over our meals, and no view. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

I recently went to this place and thought it was pretty good. The food was some of the best I've had in the area. We started off with lobster Mac and cheese. They put large pieces of lobster and the cheese was very good stuff. We got scallops and they were some of the best scallops I've ever had. There alcohol selection is pretty vast featuring domestic and local brews. The wine selection is also pretty impressive. Service was very good. Waitress was very helpful and provided some great recommendations for food and alcohol. The only reason why this got four stars were the prices. For two drinks, one appetizer, and two entrees... it was about 160 with tip. Overall, great food and service and really cool ambiance. read more

A day free with out kids means Mommy Daddy day trip. It was a beautiful day so we decided to take a trip down to Mystic. I've been waiting to try this place for a while. It is always packed and it was even packed today we probably waited over an hour for a table but luckily we were able to sit at the bar for a good 45 minutes and enjoy a drink and one appetizer. The bartender was really nice and friendly which is always a plus and a lot of the patrons were very chatty which I like. I choose the "In the Mark" and hubby got the "Whiskey Smash". Both were very good.....I actually had a double. At the Bar we had the Calamari it was topped with greens and had peanuts and a wasabi aioli. The flavors were good but not as punchy as I would have liked them to be and the calamari seemed to be a little overcooked. Once we finally got seated at our table we ordered a couple more drinks and a dozen oysters. The Oysters were fresh and nice on such a warm sun shiny day. For lunch I decided to go with the ahi tuna sandwich and the hubby had the fish tacos. The ahi tuna sandwich was really good nice crunch from the coleslaw a little zing from the wasabi aioli and the tuna was fresh and cut the correct way so it just melted when you took a bite. Hubby said it was the best fish tacos he's ever had it was a mixture of salmon and swordfish grilled with blackening spices. I really liked it here and will definitely be back.....right on the water with restaurant parking which is a plus in downtown Mystic. read more
