Quantity was sufficient for us and not oily. I wasn't quite impressed with the preparation and it did not match up to the hype i have heard about this place. We ordered devils chicken which is allegedly with ghost pepper and you need to sign a waiver before consuming it. It seemed like there was a whole lot of tobasco and spicy ketchup used to make this dish. It did not taste good. I did not mind the spicyness.( My spice tolerance could be higher than an avg person). I went to a Red Hot Chilli Pepper a long time ago and remember not liking it that much. My main complaint was that the foods all kind of tasted the same and there was a lot of fried stuff on the menu. Well I wanted to try it again but found myself a bit disappointed once more. We had a large group and tried a variety of dishes including veg and non veg but I still don't think the flavors are that great. Salty but not a lot of good flavor. Also if a dish says "dry" it's not really dry - there's still sauce all over it. I guess it's dry when compared to the "sauce" dishes - those are drowning in gravy. I felt like everything including the dry dishes was just a bit too saucy for my liking. The momos were okay but seemed overpriced. The pineapple fried rice didn't have a lot of pineapple. Though had a very bad experience with the food yesterday - Stale soup (almost inedible), stale and tasteless appetizers, absolutely no salt in the entrée. Walked in on Sunday evening. Wasn't too crowded and we were able to get seats for my husband and I. We ordered the drum sticks of heaven. Crunchy and small - it was a good way to start the meal. We then ordered Hakka Noodles with chicken and prawns in Szechuan sauce. My goodness was that spicy. We also had a side of white rice. The Hakka noodles were perfect. I order it every time we go now. The service was okay that's why I give it 4 stars as there is room for improvement. The strawberry lemonade was good to keep the spices in check. We ended up ordering fried rice to go for lunch the next day to go with the prawns and ended getting dessert as well. It was a sort of chocolate mousse that honestly brought all the taste together and a nice way to end date night. The desi chinese is the best I have had outside of India, not to mention dishes that are not typical in indo chinese restaurants- like the tofu lettuce wraps, paneer in black bean sauce, etc. My favorite dishes are the Gobi Manchurian appetizer, Tofu Tangra Style, Hakka Noodles, Tofu Lettuce wraps, and the Black Bean Paneer. Also if you ask them to make it spicy- they really do! The ambiance is great for a small group and also for a large gathering. This review is not for the food, am sure its good. Well we walked in for lunch and were told they cannot accommodate us due to all the reservations they have. Almost 90% of the restaurant was empty. Funny part is I went online and checked, there were multiple reservations slots available right away, I mean right that moment. Looks like they dont want peoples business and want their restaurant to be empty, or they are just bad at managing their reservations. Response to the owner below - I did not walk-in before close, it was around 12:30, and I was told I cannot be accommodated before 1:30pm. You must be tracking number of guest, but that does not indicate if the restaurant was full all along, when we came in it was 90% empty, if you want check your restaurant cameras, I will gladly share my photo privately to you to match when I came in. You might have had more guest after we left, but that doest mean it was full all along. And regarding booking slot, you expect the guest who were just told they cannot be accommodated to go online and book the available slot and come in again hoping to be accommodated? Why would I waste time doing this back and forth. You should seriously talk to your front desk on what happened than wasting time here posting response like this is not possible. read more

Red Hot Chili Pepper has been on my radar for over a year now and I finally got around to checking it off my bookmarked list. Quite annoyed at myself for having waited so long. It was indo-Chinese food in all its glory. You know it's bad for you, but good lord it's so tasty! Winning appetizer- Gobi manchurian. As for the entrees, hakka noodles were my favorite. Full disclosure - the sauce for the chili chicken and fish with schezwan sauce was identical. It was delicious, but it was hard to tell the difference. Indo-Chinese for me is manchow soup, gobi/chicken munchurian (gravy) and hakka noodles and that's exactly what you need to order here. There are a very few places in the Bay Area that serve authentic Indo-Chinese and this is one of them. The manchow soup is the BEST I've had in years, so start with that. We ordered Drums of Heaven (chicken lollipop) next. While it's a little bland by itself, what's also missing is the egg batter covering. It doesn't look as red as the ones served in India, but that's because of no added food coloring and that's a positive. It's a great starter to have with the chilli sauce, chilli vinegar and the soy sauce placed on the table, although the flavor needs improvement. Next came the mighty fish munchurian. This was spot-on. Again, the best I've had in years. It's probably the same sauce used in gobi/chicken munchurian and it's a must-try. Last but not the least is the humble hakka noodles. It's subtlety flavorful and goes perfectly with the blast of flavors in the Manchurian. Also love that they use thin noodles instead of the hard-to-digest thick ones. All-in-all this is our go-to place for Indo-Chinese. read more

Had heard a lot about this place from almost every Indian I know.. I guess I had really high expectations from this place. We had a 6:00PM reservation but were there at 5:45PM and were seated right away. Service was quick and excellent. The drinks were nice. Appetizers - CHICKEN DRUMS OF HEAVEN - was good and tasty, but felt cold, Perhaps they make the lollypops beforehand and just add in the marinade at the time of order. This is fine as long as the food gets heated up ;-) Main Course - CHILLI GARLIC NOODLES - were proper spicy but relishing. Loved them and will perhaps get them in Shrimp next time. WHOLE FRIED POMFRET IN SAUCE - comes with a choice of one of three sauces, we got the chili oyster based on our servers recommendation. It was a very tiny fish and we should have gotten the garlic sauce perhaps. HAKKA LAMB - The meatballs were OK, but had less lamb and too much potato/corn. Overall a little dry but can be eaten once. Desserts - The server recommended the FRIED BANANA as a house favorite, but it was cold too. Fried Banana needs to be warm for the ice-cream to melt over on it.. duh. Overall loved the ambience and the menu is vast, so we will give it a shot one more time to make a final decision on whether we will come here again or not :D read more

This is a fusion of spicy Chinese and Indian. The emphasis is on spices and not cooking skills or ingredients. That's generally not my style, particularly when "spicy" mostly equate heat and mask most other flavors. That said, the foods are quite eatable. I liked the steamed fish. There is a bar, but I wouldn't recommend any of the wines, particularly by the glasses. They are opened and not well kept and therefore well oxidized. Came for a quick lunch with my coworker. (the reason for the "1 star" is at the bottom of the review) Food: 3 to 3.5 stars. Overpriced for what it is. Curry leaf fish ($10 small plate): first, they forgot to mention that there is egg in there, which can be of a real problem for me. Too bad. Second, the fish was slightly battered and deep fried before being sautéed with egg and curry. The dish itself was just ok. But...why do you need to batter and fry the fish? Frist it should be clearly written in the menu (same as for the presence of egg). Many restaurants will batter their fish to avoid the piece of fish meat breaking apart while being sautéed. This only highlight the cook doesn't know how to work fish. No big deal though. 3 stars in the end. Dry chicken ($10 small palte): AGAIN, battered and slightly deep fried. Why? You can make perfectly dried chicken without battering it. The fact that it's battered/fried should be also clearly stated on the menu, which is not the case. The seasoning of the dish was perfect though. 3.5 stars. Hot red sauce noodles (new): jelly like gravy red sauce. I didn't like it. Too much preserved bean flavor, not. spicy. 1.5 stars. Service: 5 stars. Very professional Place 4 stars: modern yet traditional in some aspect. Clean and good vibes. 1 star because... after 6 hours of digestion...I got terribly sick. Spent an hour in my bathroom and had quite a bad infection. My coworker who *ate exactly the same as me* (we shared dishes) had the same condition. We ordered a wide variety of their veg dishes and some prawns. Everything was very tasty- my favorite was the cauliflower. Many dishes were breaded and fried, which always helps :) We ordered mild, however, I think it could be considered towards medium spice, so be careful when ordering your spice level if you can't handle the heat! We also ordered garlic noodles but they weren't very garlicky- I loooove garlic so was hoping for a huge hit of it. But still tasty. The noodles were the spiciest thing IMO. Came here one Friday just as they were closing. Walked in and checked if they were still serving food, and were informed that the kitchen was closing in minutes. Since we knew what we wanted, we proceeded to order and our food arrived quickly. The service was good and despite being the last to enter, we were not rushed. The dry chili chicken was good, and so were the chili garlic curry noodles. I liked that they used the thin noodles that made the dish tastier in my opinion. My companion had the pepper beef with gravy and pronounced it okay (was probably expecting more heat than the pepper sauce provided) The portions were decent sized and we had to get our leftovers to-go. I'd definitely return here for some spicy Chinese food the next time I crave some! read more

This is hands down the best indo-chinese place in the Bay Area. If you haven't been as yet, you must! We have been there about 4 times now and every time the consistency of taste is unparalleled. Hakka noodles ( at least a couple orders) is a must. I like the lamb dishes as well and the dim sums are really good to get started. Spring rolls were pretty well done and not oily at all. That is definitely a pet peeve. Another one that takes me back is the hot and sour chicken soup. Right out of Delhi winters and prepared just right. Was recommended by daughter-in-law so thought I would try for lunch. Ordered the Chili chicken (which was their best seller) and the Chili garlic noodle. Total tab was 52.24 inclusive of tax and tip. Everything was a La carte and that's why the tab was so high! Chili chicken was an ample portion Bu not for $23. Very glutenous and very spicy! And that was a one pepper score so I could not imagine why anyone would order the 3 pepper score dishes. The flavors was not very distinctive probably due to the spiciness of the dish. Underwhelming! Spicy garlic noodle; also underwhelming. It was the thin egg noodle, over cooked and somewhat soggy. Again ample portion but not for $19 but at least this dish was not spicy at all. Service was good as I was early for lunch. Ambiance was also nice. Would I try again? Probably not. There are plenty of spicy Asian fusion with better flavors in addition to the heat.
