Red House Cafe was quite a surprise! The Egg Bake Frittata's consistency was creamy and light. The Smoked Salmon is served over a "Potato Pancake" which was really just a hash brown. It was nice for a light meal. We also got the half order of pancakes (one pancake) which was perfect to share if you're craving something sweet. The inside of the house is small with tight corners. We felt the staff were not too mindful of the customers trying to get around. I would recommend sitting outside to stay out of their way. Nonetheless, I would return for another meal. read more

Wow. The calamari steak. It's been a few weeks, but I'm still thinking about it! Pacific Grove will always have a special place in my heart. In addition to the aforementioned calamari steak, my now-fiance (!) proposed to me the morning (at sunrise by the beach) before we came to Red House Cafe for brunch. While there was a bit of a wait, even for COVID times, if was expected for a Sunday around 10AM. We had outdoor seating, which accommodated our furry dog friend. Service was ok (they actually forgot an order which ended up being ok because we had over ordered anyway!), but come here with low expectations on that front (they were hard for us to flag down!). The crab cake Benedict was fantastic! The calamari steak was available as a sandwich or a salad. I wanted to really taste the squid so the salad option was perfect! It was kind of a basic Mediterranean salad and the dressing was a delightful vinaigrette. Parking was not so tough for us and free on Sunday. There's plenty to explore (coffee/bookstore across the street) while you wait. Highly recommend and will be back! read more

Got there at 9:30am on a Saturday morning and got seated at 10:15am - so a bit of a wait. The service is soo friendly! Especially the girl who takes people's names for the waitlist. Smoked Salmon Potato Pancake - this is perfect if you love salmon because you get A LOT of it. The salty ness of the potato pancake perfectly balanced the salmon. You can add a poached egg for +$2. Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict - by far my favorite Benedict ever! This is special because it's on a croissant, not a English muffin! The potatoes are perfectly crispy and not oily. Not sure if we came on an off day. It was around 1:30 pm on a weekday and we sat outside. Service was ok. The only water they have is bottled. My salmon eggs Benedict was decent, it's on a croissant instead of an English muffin which is a welcome twist. Nothing to complain about, but nothing to really rave about either. The potatoes are also just ok, wish it was a more generous serving. Steak and fries was very subpar. Cut of meat wasn't the best and fries are good but the meat should be the main attraction. I'm out in Monterey for a work conference, and tried this spot with my coworkers. It's such a cute establishment on a cute strip. We sat in the outside dining area where many patrons dined with their pets in tow. The service was prompt. We ordered the BLT, crab cake, Caesar salad and warmed eggplant entrees. Everyone enjoyed their food very much. The only weird part was the tiny water glasses. Otherwise, all was great. I'd go again! read more

My husband and I stopped here for lunch while visiting during early December. This is a quaint place with a good amount of outdoor seating and limited seating inside. When we visited, there was only one or two people working so the bigger outdoor seating area closer to the sidewalk was closed. Even with the staff shortage, we were still able to get seated and receive our food in about 30 minutes. The only downside to our experience was not being able to get water refills promptly. The glasses were really small and we were very thirsty, so we felt bad that our server kept having to come back to refill our glasses. We ordered the soup of the day, Tomato Basil, which was great. It was perfect for a cool cloudy day to warm us up. We both ordered sandwiches. I got the grilled cheese which had artichokes and red peppers on it. My husband got the BLT sandwich. Both came with a side of orzo pasta salad. The sandwiches were really good and generous in size. The cold pasta salad was just okay. I'm beginning to notice a trend about Pacific Grove. The people here don't do "spicy." The Mrs. and I found ourselves here for breakfast on a Tuesday morning. The friendly staff lead us through the nicely decorated old house turned restaurant and seated us a table in the back. We looked over the fairly short menu, and I selected the Breakfast Sandwich and a Macchiatto. My wife went with the eggs Benedict and a cappuccino. It took a few minutes for anyone to come back and take our order but once they did, our plates were brought out quickly. I noticed my country potatoes were a little dry and the "salsa" was like a cold marinara sauce, completely devoid of flavor or spices. We had breakfast here this morning before joining our party to head to Pebble Beach. We took a walk from Cannery Row to Lover's Point then looked for a place to eat. As we were approaching we noticed quite a few people waiting their turn for seating. It took 15 minutes for us, party of 2. The location is lovely if you're looking for a nice place to eat outside (or even inside with its homey, though tight quarters). Seating for 1-2 was very fast - both inside or out - maybe 10-15 min. Larger parties of 4+ had quite a long wait. I got the breakfast sandwich which comes with the house roasted potatoes. Loved the potatoes and that the sandwich was on a nice toasted croissant. Maybe a took to long to eat it or something but the 2nd half (I cut it on two) was soggy on the bottom part so I didn't eat that. Bummed that the frittata was sold out by 11:30 am on a Saturday after Thanksgiving. Staff was friendly but not very responsive. One of the staff even grumbled that a table had already been set up for them to a group that asked if they could have the other open table they passed. read more

First time trying Red House Cafe, The cafe was such a cute spot. They do have sitting inside, by their deck and outdoor sitting. Service, was great! We got there right when they opened. We got seated right away. The menus did have a bad smell like if they where cleaned with a dirty rag. and felt sticky and weren't clean enough. But overall the food was great. The Ham Benedict wasn't to rich it was a perfect flavor the Croissant was just perfect! The Sophia's Nutella panini on a Brioche bread is AMAZING , the Marshmallow cream topped it off. read more

Came out to the Monterey Bay Area for the weekend and we stayed at a little bungalow down the street. I started looking for some places to eat and this was the first place that seemed good. Decided to give it a try. OMG, everything was so delicious. We literally ate here the rest of the weekend. I am typically not someone that does that as I try to always try different places/food especially when traveling. However, we just kept coming back. Also, The interior was so cute and they were also accommodating with our little pup. First dinner- I had the ravioli appetizer for my meal since I was trying to limit my carb intake. On my first bite, I squeaked of pure joy. It was the best pasta I had ever tried. The bf had the burger and salad. His meal looked delicious and he really enjoyed it. Was nice to see a burger paired with a salad for once lol. I had their last slice of homemade raspberry cheesecake. The slice was smaller than a cheesecake slice which is good Saturday AM - came here for breakfast and had the regular 2eggs/country potatoes/bacon with the baguette. I also tried bowl of fresh fruit and berries. It was so cute and so good. Not disappointed at all with anything at all which led to... Saturday night- had the ravioli plate and that for some reason was different than the appetizer. I thought it would be the same thing but bigger... but nope. Maybe that was my mistake. It was still good but not the same as the appetizer or maybe it was an off night. Sunday came for the breakfast yet again and we had the 2 eggs combo again and we were so happy to get sat outside fairly quickly for a Sunday. The good: The best service we've had in awhile-- super attentive and conscientious (ie: brought extra small plates so that we could easily share, took finished plates quickly, regularly refilled the coffee, etc). Coffee was great. French toast was amazing-- perfect amount of sweetness. I loved the crab cake Benedict-- savory, not over salted-- served on a croissant which made it light and almost buttery. The restaurant's ambiance was really cute. I loved the historical house-- the fireplace was incredible. The unisex bathroom was adorable (I especially loved one of the decor). It was truly a great start to my day. The bad: I went with a group of adults one of whom ordered the smoke salmon Benedict. Her complaint about it: too salty. I, dear reader, did not verify. To consider: there is no changing table but there are high chairs. I (personally) would not feel comfortable bringing my 4 kids, at their current ages, to this enchanting place. I think it's feasible to get away with one or two of them. Max. I didn't notice a kids menu nor was there any entertainment for children (ie: crayons). Some parents were flourishing with one child. Others were struggling or took their food to go. I don't consider this a negative (hence the 5 stars)-- but. Everytime I come here I want to eat what the other person is having. This is a lovely place the grilled cheese ( (add bacon) was delicious the the quiche that my friend was having looked even better. It's been busy with work so I'm having my breakfast for lunch. They were really sweet and apologized for a small boo boo. To say this is a solid choice for breakfast or lunch is a little bit of a cliche! A cute old house, on a scenic little wooded street in a quaint northern CA town, really? Oh, and the food and service are exceptional? Oh and it's costal...hmmmm. Short story I would highly recommend this for a breakfast stop. The people are nice, they'll be a wait but it will be worth it. The menu is solid, not super CA fluff, some good old fashion breakfast choices. I really was impressed with the simple choices. I had one of the pancakes and I will say it was kick-ass for lack of a better word. Came her for brunch but unfortunately arrived late a d had to settle with the lunch menu. No matter because this gave me a chance to try one of the interesting items on the menu. The Calamari Steak, we also picked up a Roasted Turkey Sandwich and was settling in splitting the grilled cheese for the kids. Thankfully they had a kids menu as the kids didn't want the artichoke hearts or peppers, so it was nice to save a little bit. The service was decent, proper precautions and they created an outdoor seating area that is covered from the street. The seating felt a little bit close but generally people seem to keep their masks until they started eating. The Red Roof cafe looks like it has some nice interior seating for when things were normal but it makes me wonder if this place would be super packed if not for the timing. On to the food. Now I know it said Calamari Steak so I should have realized it wasn't going to be sliced and fried prices of Calamari but was generally surprised when it came as one big patty. I was worried that it was going to taste bland from the look of it but man the combination of chili aioli and what I believed to be pickled red onion was amazing. It's hard to determine whether I loved the aioli or the Calamari but that wasn't the point really, the sandwich tasted good and it was a big win. The only issues I has was that the Calamari was slightly tougher than expected and I couldn't pin it down to quality or how it was cooked. Otherwise it was reality minor and small observation (or taste-servation) that didn't take away from the finished product. Regarding the other items on the menu both also got high marks from the wife and kids. Really want to try to hit up this place again for brunch but otherwise great lunch! read more

Good size and tasty w crispy house potatoes. My wife tried the Ham Benedict. Eggs had a light vinegar taste but she enjoyed it. Service was great and accommodating. The only issue was the waitlist. I checked in via Yelp. Upon arrival we checked in w the host. Even though Yelp showed 25 min wait we were told to expect 50 min wait time. But the strange thing was our name disappeared from the waitlist when we were third in the list. Since the host talked to me several times up to that point he was kind to seat us next available table. So not sure what happened to electronic waitlist. Overall I would come back! read more

My mom and I ADORE this little cafe. We always go with the intention of a drink and a snack while goigoing about our days, but we always end up having a bit more. The tea is standard faire but the coffee is delicious. The housemade pies are also always a major hit for us -- always sweet and fresh, never tart or sour. The staff is kind and perfectly attentive without hovering. The ambiance is typical of Pacific Grove; calm, unrushed, and cozy. I will admit that it's kind of pricey, but that's standard for the area so I don't see it necessarily as a flaw. read more

Delicious! Such a quaint cafe in Pacific Grove. Our server was very kind and moved two tables together for our large group. Although a little pricier than I expected, the food was superb and plated so beautifully that I believe it was worth it. We found parking on the street on Lighthouse Avenue relatively easily. There was a bit of a wait at the cafe though since it seemed to be a popular spot, but we were able to pass the time very quickly exploring a bookstore nearby. Red House Cafe is a small breakfast place with indoor, outdoors, and terrace seating options. The waiters are very attentive. Unless you are on a waiting list, you are seated quickly, the food comes quick, and it is warm and tasty. The chairs and tables, especially indoors, are on the small size but comfortable and clean. This place got busy pretty fast after opening, but yet, the tables are turned fast too. So, you don't have to wait too long to get seated. I am not a fan of any eating establishment that puts a table next to the bathroom, much less with a place so small. There is something about trying to eat and socialize with your friend/partner that doesn't go with the sound of toilet flushing. My suggestion to this place is similar to the others; don't put people next to the toilet. Other than that, this is a very good place to have breakfast. Give it a try! read more

Our family ate here two mornings in a row during our trip to Pacific Grove. It's delicious! My husband and I ordered the Smoked salmon on potato pancake both times. It is probably my new favorite dish. It's filling without being greasy and the flavor is amazing and I love the crisp of the pancake (hash browns). Our son got the pancake with bananas both times and our daughter ordered the fresh toast and Nutella panini. She preferred the fresh toast since it was more warm and moist. Our server Nelson was more than helpful and friendly. He remembered us the second time we came and gave some great local recs of other businesses. In fact all the employees were top notch! They have a sign asking you to put your name down but the host, who wasn't there to answer questions, didn't even look at the list or update it when people sat. He would just ask people how many were in their party and then sat them. People who came after us was getting seated because he wasn't looking at the list. I wasn't a fan of the Apple sausage as I like traditional sausage but it wasn't terrible. Really nice atmosphere. Very nice server. Pretty darn high quality food. I got the salmon pizza. Its basically a brined and smoked salmon sliced thinly topped on a pizza with creme fraiche & caviar. It was excellent. If they could improve the crust I'd give them 5 stars. But in reality this place is a 4 to 5 star Cafe overall. Their breakfasts are very simple but done correctly. To the point that a scrambled egg is actually cooked correctly. The potatoes are seasoned just right. My wife got ravioli the day I got this pizza. It was really good. Try this restaurant. It's good.
