We've been avoiding fish joints in this region, for fairly obvious reasons; what's affordable isn't good, and what's good isn't affordable. Red Perch not only strikes a balance, they exceed expectation. By keeping portions under control and handling their proteins with respect and care, and offering novel beverage options and ever-changing fish specials, they keep it interesting and simple at the same time. So first, this place is not the easiest to find. It's nowhere near where maps says it is. It's on the upper level of the most northeast building of Sylvan Supply. Find Radish Kitchen, keep going, find the stairs, through the corridor and on your left. The menu seems to change often which I think is great. Today the board had several additions and deletions from the other pics posted and what's on the website. The owners are there and interacting with the customers making sure everyone is having a good time which I thought was nice. And now to the fish (cod) and chips. Absolutely fantastic. The batter is really thin and light, almost tempura like. Super crispy and offset by the soft perfectly cooked cod. I didn't see the chips have a double fry but they tasted like they did. I'm guessing they were par cooked before or they used some other form of magic because they were amazing. Dark brown crunchy and soft. Genius. My only complaint is cost. I went for lunch because I work in midtown and the portion size (for lunch) is perfect. It's about what you would equate to a kid's meal. Is it the best fish and chips I've ever had? Definitely top 5. Is it worth $20 after tax and tip? Maybe. I'll be back but it'll be an every few months lunch instead of a 3 times a week lunch. A friend and I were in the Sylvan Park area and were in the mood for something fresh and yummy. Redperch was the perfect place to satisfy our needs. Overall, this place is a definite 'must return'. {parking/location}: Given that the restaurant is located in the center of a plaza, there was plenty of parking around. We also went during lunchtime, so it was not that crowded, but I think that it would be great parking at any time. {service/food} The host was able to seat us right away and gave a full run-down of the menu and their personal favorites. I opted for the beer battered cod fish and my friend got the fish tacos. Both orders were large and came with plenty of fries (my favorite part). The fish was fresh and well seasoned. The atmosphere is laid-back and friendly - and perfect if you are looking for fast quality. I prefer restaurants with small menus. These eateries have honed their craft to perfection and focus on a few dishes rather than spreading themselves thin with a sprawling menu. That's true with Red Perch. In addition to the fish, they have shrimp, calamari, ahi and salmon poke, and salads, but I'm there for the fish, and it's consistently perfect! The batter on the fish is light and crispy, and the cod is always delicious. And the fries? They're the real deal - perfectly crisp and the perfect amount. My wife usually orders fish and chips with the catch of the day, and it's always been excellent. The staff does a great job on all levels, describing the menu items, especially the flavor, and texture of the day's catch. Also, because it's smaller, they clean the tables quickly between guests and keep things moving. If I had to nitpick and scrape the barrel here, I'd say I wish the ketchup were refrigerated. It's more of a personal preference and certainly nothing that takes away from how awesome this place is. Gave this relatively new "Aussie fish and chips" joint a try tonight. Two people cost was $55 for: clam chowder, fish and chips of the day, ahi poke salad (medium spice), and a canned alcoholic cider, and tip. Fish and chips were made with flounder today. Four nice-sized slabs with lemon slice and unique tartar on side and malt vinegar on the table. Since it's what they tout on their storefront, one would expect this to ROCK .... And it does not disappoint! Fluffy/crispy batter, perfect and flavorful. Fries on the side are coated, then fried, for almost a double-fried crunchy crisp-tastic texture. Chowder: very good with plentiful clams, generous bacon, nice allotment of potato. Warm and comforting with good mouthfeel, nice portion also included home style sourdough bread slices. For $8, prolly the best deal we scored. Again, spice was nice, not overly salty, very even. Ahi poke salad is a top choice per Yelp (and something we *usually* love) but was a big disappointment. Too much seaweed salad! Ahi sauce was good but sunk to bottom, mostly dipped into seaweed--would prefer it on the side in one of those tartar sauce cups. Quick pickle was good. Rice was perfectly sticky and well-sized portion. Edamame would be way more enticing if warmed a bit, was jarringly cold. I guess I was mistakenly hoping for more of a poke bowl instead of so much seaweed salad. Next time: wanna try the shrimp bahn mi sandwich. Looked good on a plate that passed by. And, the lumpia. Atmosphere/pros: Three small tables inside, two small tables outside, two long counters for inside seating (not a place for groups). Can sit kitchen side and watch coos, if you want. Cute individual water dispenser at tables. Cool music. Industrial decor vibe. SUPER ATTENTIVE servers who genuinely care that you like the food and have what you need. Very welcoming. Seemed clean and cared for. Cons: VERY HARD TO FIND. We were LOOKING for it (it's upstairs ABOVE RADISH) and would not have just happened by as street traffic...we suggest adding more prominent signage out on that patio-ish area facing the doors of competing businesses Radish, punk wok, bearded iris, secret ramen shop. And, the menu board could be neatened up, with better groupings of foods. With options crammed in every corner, it was kind of hard to read and make selections. Table side silverware and napkins were convenient and looked good, but not covid-friendly, as we had to paw through to dig out chowder spoons and touch multiple napkins. Red Perch gives fair impression of their fishy fare, but I'm not sure what's really "Aussie"about this place. Prices seem reasonable. Red Perch is a slightly upscale (but still grounded) restaurant with a new branch in Sylvan Supply off of Charlotte Avenue. They specialize in fish and chips with some more Asian influences (i.e.: banh mi's, lumpia, poke, and katsu additions on the menu). I ordered the fish of the day with chips, and the fish came out freshly fried, crispy, and piping hot. The pieces of fish were huge, and I didn't manage to finish the entire meal (despite some really delicious tartar sauce on the side). You know a fish and chips place is legitimate when they have house tartar sauce in addition to malt vinegar for your order. I do think fried fish is still a pretty heavy meal, so come hungry and often. The prices can range here, but the fish of the day is around $16 (depending on the market value of the fish) with whole fish entrees ranging in the $28 range. I find it slightly expensive, but the tastes are always on point for the punch to the wallet. I found their amount of seating pretty tough. They have a small wrap around porch with a few two people cafe style tables, some outdoor larger party tables, and just a few seating options inside. This might be a better takeout location if you're in a larger group. read more

This is one of the best restaurants in Nashville ever! I have lived here for a year and have guests in town and figured I would try a new spot. This is probably the best dinner I have had all year. So fresh, not oily, casual, and delicious! Our favorites were the burger, fish sandwich, and the fish and chips! The fries and salad are super addictive as well! The fish is better than any I have had on vacation on an island. Finally had lunch here last week. Food was fantastic. I had the traditional fish and chips, my friends had the fish of the day with chips and the chowder. All were well made. The batter on the fish was light but crispy which is a change from most heavy grease soggy coatings! Started with the anchovies and lumpia both great and fun in the case of the anchovies. Next time I will get a poke bowl which I've heard are great. Small with limited seating inside. Tables on the breezeway and in the courtyard. We live in Nolensville and were looking for some new places outside of our area. Actually, it was the owners' story that sold us. Two people following a dream. Off we went! The restaurant is immaculate, modern, and very welcoming. I especially appreciated the counter seating where you can oversee the kitchen prep area. We grabbed a table next to the windows and noticed a couple seated outside on a small patio (w/portable heaters). The food? Awesome. The tender calamari comes with a delicate (panko?) crust with a creamy surprise waiting at the bottom. Dig for it! Nice portion. The fish filet sandwich lived up to its many favorable Yelp reviews. The white fish was perfectly coated and prepared. The fresh, homemade tartar sauce and American cheese were a perfect complement. Well worth the $12 price tag. A generous portion of fries was included. My wife ordered the fish & chips which were remarkable. The portion is more than ample, the breading delicate, and the fish was fresh & firm. These rivaled those we had years earlier in London. Service? Best ever. You order and pay at the counter. Within minutes after getting situated at our table our first food arrived, hot & fresh from the kitchen. The other food soon followed the same way. I tried this spot out for the first time, and WOW. I was impressed. I have heard others rave about this spot, and it definitely lived up to they hype. Service was quick and easy with a great menu. It is mainly seafood based, but they do have a chicken option. We went for the shrimp banh mi and chicken Katsura tacos. Both were SO good. Nice place but not quite what I was expecting. Rather than being an Aussie fish'n'chip shop as I had thought, it's a cafe which sells Australian styled fish and chips. It's a pleasant place with bar space and a few tables with fairly uncomfortable chairs. It's nice and clean in the main area, and the toilets are also well kept. The staff we spoke with were friendly and efficient although my wife's fish sandwich was left on a counter for several minutes, in very close proximity to other diners. I ordered cod and chips. My first impression was 'where is it all'? But after eating it I realised I was applying the American dietary criterion of too-much-is-never-enough. As it turns out, the Aussie sized portion was perfect, as I was fully satisfied, and it didn't leave me feeling that I had just eaten a bowling ball. The cod was perfect, the batter was excellent and the chips were very nice. My wife ordered the fish filet sandwich. She said it was 'okay', but by comparison to Maccas Filet'o'fish, she said it was a $6 sandwich, not the $12 job that arrived. The addition of Aussie Chicken Salt was a great touch, as was the malt vinegar. Top marks! We also ordered coffee which was very nice but they had no cream. Still, we enjoyed the experience. To be more like the Australian equivalent, Red Perch would need to sell potato scallops, Tasmanian scallops and battered savs. But that's maybe me being just a little unrealistic and relying overly on nostalgia.
